    Know what I would love as a nut allergy sufferer is an actual warning for nut oils in products! REM is just very late with their launches. These skincare "trends" have already passed. Like you mentioned, the eye primer is clearly inspired by the Becca foundation which was a "viral" product. The eyelash serums also became trendy products very fast, but I don't see people caring about them anymore. This is the problem with trying to stay on trend, why not just formulate great timeless products. Waste of time and money.

It annoys me too especially since I’m a biochemist and my friends (who I know have the best interest of the environment at heart) who did nothing related to my field think it’s okay to talk over me when I trying an explain how the research is really flawed and wasn’t peer reviewed.

    • @jazwhoaskedforthis
      @jazwhoaskedforthis 2 года назад +4

      I think it's a tricky marketing thing. People ARE worried about the environment but they don't feel like they can influence corporations or governments, and they buy into the propaganda that it's individual actions ruining the planet. They want to do good and companies sell them the illusion of that. I wasn't sure at first about reef safe sunscreen as I hadn't looked into it (I am having a years long existential crisis at this point and don't always have energy to look up more things to be worried about), but it struck me as a way to blame people for ruining reefs when it's likely large corporation activity, polluting, and other major factors like climate change. But yeah lemme feel guilty about wearing sunscreen to the beach.

I really love all of their products! I use the mist, serum and moisturiser with my paulas choice bha and azaelic acid, and i'm noticing my skin feels really moisturised compared with how dehydrated and dry it was feeling before. I think it probably may be better for drier skin types. I think it is very simple but I think sometimes people over complicate skincare too much so this one is great if you just want a simple routine. Thank you for explaining your stance on reef safe. I was horrified when I originally heard about our sunscreen hurting the coral reefs so I have been very diligent to only use “reed safe” sunscreen for several years but I’m all about research is I will definitely be looking into the research that you have mentioned. I will say that “reef safe” sunscreen is MUCH better for kids to use. You can’t use sunscreen on babies under 6months UNLESS it doesn’t have those “harmful to reef” ingredients so I only use Zinc Oxide sunscreen on myself and my young children and if “reef safe” wasn’t a thing it would be significantly harder to find sunscreen that I feel is safe to put on my children.

    • @cv7958
      @cv7958 2 года назад

      Not really. Instead of focusing on reef safe SPF products look for kids/baby spf. Those are usually all mineral physical sunscreens with zinc/titanium dioxide. Not difficult to find at all and affordable at the drugstore. If anything, it’s easier to find than adult SPF because adults care more about cosmetic elegance (white cast, greasy feeling etc.). Kids are easier to buy for than adults.

    • @jamg8483
      @jamg8483 2 года назад +1

      @@cv7958 that’s only possible now because of the information people learned from the “reef safe” marketing. 10 years ago Zinc or titanium sunscreen for kids wasn’t really a thing. There was a brand or two and they left a horrible white cast. I don’t use adult sunscreen on my children. I use non nano zinc oxide or “reef safe” sunscreen that is made for kids.

    Tried Byoma because it was so simple and reasonably priced at Target in the US, and honestly I was looking for things to add to my order to get free shipping. That said, I am very surprised by how much I like the products. I think your review is fair. On the first try, I loved the mist and knew I would repurchase it in the future. I thought the cleanser was "nice" and would be the kind of unobjectionable product I would loan a friend who unexpectedly stayed over. No question skin barrier protection is the focus of the brand, but I think all products are superior to Cetaphil and cerave. Seemed fine but boring. HOWEVER, a few weeks later after being a little overly exuberent using actives, including sleepily forgetting that my dermatica tret now includes azelaic acid (which I love) and so accidentally added an additional layer of prescription 15% alezaic acid on top !!!!!!. . . .I awoke with sensitive skin and worry about my barrier. Byoma was out on my table and I thought, today is the day for basic. It was fantastic and immediately soothed my poor skin. Loved the cleanser, I used the mist repeatedly through the day. Liked the serum, and even the moisturizer felt good (I have dry, dehydrated skin) and sank into my needy skin. I used it for two days AM and PM and then was able to return to my actives (careful not to accidentally double dose anything!). I think this routine would be great for adolescents plus an exfoliating, or if needed, acne treatment step, or for an older relative who wants a simple, yet fun, inexpensive routine probably plus a heavier night time moisturizer. Or for anyone who needs a few days or more of barrier repair. I think I will keep all the products on hand in the future, either when I need a break from actives or are too rushed for a longer routine.

    I bought most of the products from the byoma brand and I agree they are “snice” as you would say lol. Like nice basic stuff to start out with that’s not overly bland.
    I mix the gel moisturizer with the glow recipe pink juice moisturizer bc it def wasn’t enough on its own and it seems to be fine but by themselves (I tried both the moisturizers) and I definitely can see what you mean about it sitting on your skin. Lately I’ve even been putting the plum plump moisturizer over the top of those two (cuz I have it and why not lol) and it’s been doing my skin real nice. I also mix the niacinamide dew drops with their niacinamide serum (bc I had it before I bought glow recipe and I don’t want to waste it lol) but everything’s been doing real nice. I do admit that I like the way my skin feels better when I just mix the pink juice moisturizer with the plum plump one.
    but I’m OBSESSED with glow recipe per your recommendation, you cannot go wrong. At all. I use their avocado serum mixed with the good light probiotic serum and they are soooo nice together. I’ve been getting compliments on my skin since using glow recipe for sure. Their pore tight toner is also chefs freaking kiss. My skin usually hates salicylic acid but it LOVES that exfoliant I swear.
    Also I really love the good light cleanser, milky moon glow toner and that probiotic serum I mentioned earlier. They’re great in my opinion. Them and glow recipe are my favs right now.
    And I personally like you said would recommend byoma to anyone who’s starting out and wants something simple but not too too plain. And maybe sample the moisturizer before you buy it. I’d recommend a different moisturizer. There’s actually a green tea and aloe moisturizer from versed at target that’s super nice as well. I’d maybe try that one instead 😁

Philosophy has finally reformulated one of their best selling products, Purity Made Simple cleanser. I think the brand is overpriced crap, mostly, but my mom loves that cleanser. She is a real cheapskate on skincare, so she’s always asking me to look for sales and deals on that cleanser. Now I’m seeing reviews that say since the reformulation, the product starts smelling funky before people finish it. Yeah, because they took out the parabens. 🙄 Told her about that and talked her into Cetaphil Gentle Skin cleanser. She loves it, and it’s so much cheaper, so she’s really happy.

      Possibly unpopular opinion, but I loved their moisturizer back when it still had Lavender oil. My skin didn't care at all, it loved that product and the scent was honestly a major reason I loved it. As a very anxious person I found the little bit of aromatherapy very soothing and something to look forward to, it motivated me to get up and wash when I was super depressed. So they took it out and now I'm just using basic ass cerave lotion because the reformulation probably works similarly but the scent was at least half of why I loved it. I'm not paying that price for something I only love half as much as I used to. Thanks for saving me money, philosophy.

    I tried the Tatcha sunscreen, and I do like it. Not sure if I would use often for 60$ (glad I got a discount) but I do have a hard time finding spf 50’s with nice texture that don’t sting my eyes, so this one was a win in that regard.

      You could try using a mineral lip balm around your eyes if you're not that dark. I can't quite get away with it but my boyfriend swears by it

    I got the Acnemy postzit serum a while ago from beautybay and it has transformed my skin. It's the perfect formulation of zinc and niacinamide so it helps with marks but also balances out and keeps it less clogged and oily. I don't think I could be without it now... please don't be discontinued 🙈
