So sad that the NCF does not exist here. That said, I love your comparison dram and I have it often on the shelf. Thanks for sharing, cheers!!

Nice review Jim. Agree. 12 is a good age.

Fantastic review Jim. Yes, big price for a 12, but if it is done right, it's a price worth paying! Once again, I second your views - give us this rather than the supermarket crap! Cheers mucker.

Thanks for shining a light on this one, Jim.
I've had the mentioned 10yo and the regular 12yo. Possibly this one as well, but not sure ... and of all of them counts that it's been too long ago that I can add anything to your review.

I wish this could satisfy the sherry itch.
I wonder if I'd buy it if I saw it.
As much as I overlook Aberlour have 2 expressions. The Casg Annamh and the A'bunadh.
The Casg Annamh was my first baby step into sherry. I wouldn't even say that Glendronach 12 was the introduction from a few years before. I'm
not sure which Aberlour came first but the Casg Annamh is just a great whisky to simply enjoy being both sherry and bourbon matured and well presented.
But full sherry is a whole different thing. Haven't seen much new Arran yet. In my collection this might compare to my Glenturret 12 or the GlenAllachie 12. Maybe?
I would love to have more 12 year old sherry bombs but affordability hasn't been my top priority for a while. Affordability hasn't been an option for quite a while. If this Aberlour was on the shelf in th US it would be about the same price as some 15's, cause it's Aberlour.
It's still good to know that these 40-43% brands are starting to offer something to peak our interest with a decent balance of quality, integrity and value.

Hey, Jim. Most welcome review of a somewhat overlooked malt. I myself am also guilty of overlooking this one as every time I consider buying it I end up with something else instead. Aberlour 12 NCF can be had for between 44 and 50 euros in Bulgaria, but I see it on special sale at below 40 at least once a year. Next time perhaps :)
As for the Arran Sherry Cask, it is indeed a great cask strength, sherried malt. I can buy it for 39-40 euros in Bulgaria so it is a no brainer. Much, much better value than A'Bunadh of which I've had batch 65 and was not all that impressed.
    Cheers!

Hi Jim & Happy New year if not already wished...About this one I'm almost sure it wasn't a travel retail but can't be 100 % sure....I still have a bit of this before the recent rebranding (like the one you have) in that white tube & "full" label...I'm worried though that today's batches might be quite different from mine...the whole range has change & not necessarily for the best. I won't discard all the entry level bottles though, some are decent, also for the record, normally this 12 yo NCF has both Bourbon & Sherry casks, so not wine casks but fortified wine like sherry, yes. I wouldn't compare it to that Arran though, as it is way younger (at least my batch) & higher abv, and fully sherried, unlike this ncf...Anyway, Cheers & Take Care !

Managed to pick this up for £49 GBP in Australia.
Haven't cracked it open yet, need to finish my A'bunadh first.

I don’t have an Aberlour so off to buy one on your recommendation. HNY

Could have used some more oomph in my opinion. It’s cleanly made, almost reminding my of Irish whiskey, but was a bit feint on the pallet to me.

Hi Jim, the NCF 12 is most definitely a step up from the regular 12 and it’s still at a decent price. Still, my favourite Aberlour was the long discontinued 15 even at 43 % it was lovely. A good start to the new year 👍, good review Jim, slàinte.

I always have a bottle of the A’bunadh open and several in reserve, but I walk past the regular 12. 40%, which is uncommon in the US, chill filtered, and colored. A shame.

There is some colour in there, you are right (declared on bottles in Germany). But pretty affordable here. It looks to me like they might still be producing this stuff!

Does it taste more like the Glenallachie 12 or the Glendronach 12?

Personally I'd say it leans toward the Glendronach Antonio.

@@WhiskeyNovice I would imagine that from the only Aberlour I know wich is the Abunnadh
