I just bought an 88 high top G20 for $900. It has under 100k miles and a bad ass black paint job. I've already traveled about 3k miles in her without a problem. I love her! Chilling in it now. Living in it now as well. Currently finishing off my build. The idea with the drawer is genius. I'm copying that. Thanks
This guy has a super cute personality...really enjoyed everything you have done...my van is a 1989 mark 3 and thank goodness I dont have the over heating issue 😳
Really like your van dude! Me and my gf just bought ourselves a -79 chevy van and we're planning on doing a similar conversion! Thanks for the inspiration!
I have the same van. A lot of work to do on mine. I'm doing a similar buildout. Using much lighter materials tho. Nice to see one already restored. You did a great job!
Great build, man. I've got '84 Ford E350 Club Wagon 15 passenger van I want to start working on, converting into a camper. Your video will definitely be helpful! 🤘
"Go to school Go to work Go home " Good thinking Ian. And... you can have fun at School, Work, Home. You'll be able to save a lot of money for a rainy day. Are you in College? Enjoyed your video. God bless you Ian, and God bless your parents.
Dude! I so want your van! Wicked job on the interior. My guess is that if you change out the rad and thermostat your van will be good to go forever. Happy trails man!
IAN your Van Conversion video popped up today and I was blown away at what a great job you've done. I look forward to checking out your videos. I like seeing young people doing this. I feel like they shouldn't waste time waiting. Get out there and enjoy your life and the freedom you have. It's not a good time for University now. They're just indoctrinating young people into feeling like victims. Don't let anyone take away your sense of who you are and live life your way. ☺
Hello Ian. Love the conversion bro. And love the old Van's got me a 1985 dodge myself haven't finished converting it but just took it on a 17 hour roadtrip down baja mex and ran great. You should fix your overheating problem.get you a heyz manual Check you're ignition timing to make sure it's not retarted. Then replace you're thermostat OEM Chevy only you need to replace anyway if old. Then if still overheating on highway just put a new radiator. You will feel good once you fix it yourself also buddy. That's the good thing about these old Van's easy to work on.
Haha that's sick brother, Baja is definitely on the list. I ended up blowing my tranny and having to replace it a couple weeks after I posted this vid, she easily cruises at 90 without over heating now.
Search for the year, make and model of your vehicle with the words swivel seat. I found a forum where they order once or twice a year as a group buy. They cost from $225 to over $300.
E350? Your engine is not functioning well at all. My G30 1982 hauls as# and my 0-60 speed is a heck of a lot faster then most vehicles I’ve had lately from an 07 police interceptor, 04 sunfire, 04 jeep liberty, 05 town and country, and my parents’ nissan rouge. I get about 10 mpg but it hauls. It’ll climb in speed if I’m not careful, driving up a mountain pass at 65 it’ll creep but since it’s a 3 speed auto I dont ever let it get about 55 unless I have to, just personal choice since i baby it. I’d recommend learning how to repair it, stepone compression test the block, if its over 130 then keep going, if below then you’llneed a rebuild or new 350.
Should be a small block 350. I never changed oil or knew what an axel was until I bought my van at 37 years old. Now I’m obsessed with automechanics. Owning a chevy van is a decent place to start, not as simple as an old ford inline 6 but it is fairly simple and fun to learn.
Definitely a great build, very inspiring. Now that you've lived in it for a few weeks are there some things about your rig you would change or maybe modify?
Defenitly, some key things I wish I had is a air vent, PVC roof shower, smaller bed, sink, less windows, and carpet. Also never hurts to have the little storage stocked with good food and beer
Less windows ? Still deciding on a Chevy Express passenger van for the windows and sliding door. Or the Chevy express work van with no windows and double swing out doors
nice ride, i have a 77 chevy with the smallest Inline 6 engine and I can go 90 mpg or more... no overheating, so you should get yours fixed. something up with your engine. A 350 should not be only going 60 mpg.
I third that (lol I can't say second). I had a 1990 g20 van. Same van but a bit newer. Only enthusiasts would be able to tell a difference but yeah. I had a 350 (5.7L v8) in it at first but it blew. Swapped it for the 305 (5.0L v8) smaller engine but dude that van will still hit 90 mph idk about 100. But dude, I see a lot of g20 van builds where people put great work into the interior and just neglect the mechanical aspect. I feel like people should really get more into the whole build. I can't stand to see just one way or the other. It's like it's either a hot rod with a bare interior, or a really decked out van build with mechanical issues or just straight up neglect that the owner doesn't do anything with just because they're not into it. And dude said he just learned how to do all that wood work, and all that electrical for the solar, so what's stopping you from learning the basics of how to maintain a car while your at it? Not saying you gotta add a supercharger, lift kit, and nitrous. Just get your coolant, bug wash, and brakes checked out before you make a whole tour video of a half done van.
And even if you're thinking "oh well it's done enough for me" dude just hold yourself to a higher standard. Just because you "CAN" drive it doesn't mean you should. What's gonna end up happening is your gonna drive the van with some sort of overheating issue and it's going to get progressively worse and by the time you decide you're good and ready to fix it it's going to cost you way more than if you had simply got it checked out as soon as you knew about it. Just saying. I'd hate to see a dope van build go to waste. Especially a g20.
@@vincenzopromedia I second Vince on this. It ALWAYS cost more if ya let it get to a "haveta" situation. Voice of experience, way too much experience. And, great build. Sure you'll change and upgrade, but for first iteration very good for a novice 17 year old. Wish I'd been as 'with it' as you.
@Never Gonnatell Funny, I'm now looking into ways to actually achieve that with these 90s chevy vans. If not 90 mpg more like 50 mpg, but lot of van-lifers complain about the gas mileage on the big V8s. The way I see it without the big V8, you can't tow/haul heavy things, go fast, or off road, so I'm looking into ways to cut spending on fuel with them. I still think this is just more reason to get a chevy van and build that as apposed to a big sprinter because they're like 49k new no build, and like 59k used and then built out, where if you put that into a G20 van you could have an amazing build, but I don't see anyone putting 49k into a G20 build. They put more like 8k, so I question how they complain about fuel at that point, but to each theirs.
Really cool. You did a decent job. You can also turn the heat on when the engine is getting hot. That will help keep the engine from overheating. Have you changed the thermostat? Stay safe.
it looks super dope, I love it! I'm just curious hoe much you paid after all the customizations because before i had a 71 VW camper bus and now I'm wanting to get a newer camper on a budget and I saw a couple 95 go2 chevy campers that look dope, I can customize it or save up for a sprinter van. I just want something more low-key. i need AC and Heater this time for sure, and I want to do solar panels too.
Really awesome Van!!
Love your vibe
Stay happy!
Love your van! I'm building out my 1988 Chevy van now to travel and work in film. Putting a shower in mine now. Thanks for a great video!
That's a good looking van that's built for a mobile home👍
Sick Build 🤙

Great work on the van! Cool video

One of the nicer builds I've seen on YT. Simple, clean & functional. Too bad about the engine limitations, but you're making the best of it. Enjoy!
Cool build!

I had the same overheating problem in my 87 Chevy, coming through osoyoos in the summer took forever! Just got a new rad and it’s all better!

I sub'd right after you said "the drive is 9 hours, but it took me 3 days"!! You will do well bud!
Ian need your help planning on buying me a van and heading out. Im looking at a 199 e150 ford van.

Cannabis plant medicine would help more than Advil bro✨
I got a 91 G20. Could have used your help getting it all set up nice like that! I still need to solarize it one of these days!
Haha thanks man that's sweet🤙 solar settup helps a ton man I would defenitly recommend
YOU DID A VERY NICE JOB ON YOUR VAN. 👍😇
Nice rig and attitude, Ian. 👍
Shower? Restroom? Sink? Unless I completely missed it. Great build for allegedly not having any prior skills. Lol
Where do you put your clothes?
where did you get your swivel chair adapter?
E-350 is a ford van. You meant small-block 350 as in 350 cubic inch
Are you still living in this?
Can you tell me what the name of the strip lights you got from amazon are called? I am doing a van build and those are perfect!
Hey Ian , do you remember the cost of your overall van build ?
Bad ass van its nice, I think the overheating thing is because of your thermostat keep on trucking !
Thanks brother🤙
Ian Dunlop are you still at it ? Maybe time to put a new video up bro don’t stop ur dreams homie
Badass enjoy your journey my friend
Do you have any problems going up hills? Like do you have to downshift?
Tofino is the best place if you’re gonna live in a van! Lived in my 79 dodge for a year there. Best time ever
It's the hardest place on the island to go suburban camping though. Can I ask how did you manage? Did you ever have a problem getting told to move?
replace coolant and thermostat
Sick bro big upss. Looking to something similarly
Im glad you said it needed to cool for 3 hours after driving 3 hours. I will definately not get it now
Haha thats just my Chevy, not all Chevy's
You talking 60 mph or 60 kmh on the highway?
So nice van build😁😎but what I don't understand is why didn't you replace your water pump so that your van won't be overheating...
Thanks brother a I don't know, maybe I'm just a sucker for making things harder than they need to be 🤷🏼♂️
Ian Dunlop water pump, system flush and wire a fan on a switch:)
Very nice
Seems like a lot of fun! hope you got the overheating fixed.
this man is beautiful bye
He's only 17.
Andrew Conway doesn’t mean she can’t call him beautiful. It’s completely legal...chill
Sweet van I sold mine just like it to a guy in tofino
Great build. And background tune.
Love it
Where'd you buy your swivel mechanism?
I'm not sure sorry, the guy I bought the van off of already had them installed.
Search for the year, make and model of your vehicle with the words swivel seat. I found a forum where they order once or twice a year as a group buy. They cost from $225 to over $300.
Just moved to Kamloops from ontario and picked up a g20 myself!
You're hella chill, i love it.
learn to talk, idiot gash
great job!
Did you do your own window tinting?
Nah I bought it with the tints already on.
Love the build 🤗
Hmm
awesome. the foam mattress maybe too thick, that will give you more room. i like it though
What did u use for insulation
Nice build!
When I opened the door I was like hookah nice

Vin Vlogger , I converted it all myself! Came completely empty with the floor rusted out.
Shame to do such beautiful interior work in such a mechanically unsound van
I love it. I much did u pay for tha van itself??
I picked up the van with nothing in it for 2500
