- Lace cookies are simple to prepare, easy to make, and the technique will work no matter what nuts and chocolate you decide to use. These would make for a beautiful edible gift, but just be sure you make enough for yourself, as they are very addictive. You’ve ben warned. Enjoy!

"Around the outside" will never get old
Never
I would have skipped the video after 3:30 minutes but then I read your comment and stayed for the around the outside quote
Man, your intonation gets me every time!
Chocolate peekaboo :p
I know!!!
hootypatootie I’m a new subscriber. What’s the story behind that?
You are - after all - the Florentine of your quarantine
Today’s pun winner!!!
Good one lol
Around the outside, Around the outside, Around the outside 🎶
Will never get tired of hearing that lol.
Did anyone else see the smiley face in the chocolate chef John was spreading at 5:37?
Lol, just commented about that
@@cobrian45 Same haha
Lol 😆
So subtle 👏🏼
🤣🤣 it looked more like the 😏 side smirk lol
"The batter will end up inside the whisk" - I felt that
Me too... If by "wisk" you mean "my stomach".
@@dbone3356 haha yeah that too
Hurrah. Triple “around the outside”.
the other day he slighted us and only said it once
Chef john vs eminem rap battle
@@AshiwiZuni Fun fact: The original "around the outside" was from Malcolm Mclaren's Buffalo Girls. My guess this is more Chef John's jam. ruclips.net/video/HCBN7lyLT4w/видео.html
@@AshiwiZuni Would never happen. Em would be too scared to diss Chef John...
...I mean... Let's face it. Would be like trying to insult Mr. Rogers or Bob Ross...
I like adding a little bit of orange zest to mine.
Can one add hazelnut or walnuts in place off almonds?
@@marybianca2722 Absolutely.
@@James-ye7rp
Can one add motor oil in place of butter?
@@Mordal1222 You sure can. I cannot vouch for the results, however.
@@marybianca2722 Sounds yummy. Orange and chocolate are best friends.
My mother used to roll these when they were still warm, dip the ends in dark chocolate and nonpareil.
What a lovely idea!
Lucky you! Sounds like an amazing mom.
Nonpareil?
@@dbone3356 nonpareils are sprinkles basically💖
My mother piped whipped cream into the rolled up chocolate dipped cookie. Oh yums!
I made those and rolled them around a wooden spoon handle to cool. When serving, filled with Bailey's whipped cream ... yum.
Like a brandy snap!
Made these today: they came out beautiful. I'll bring some as a gift on Christmas Eve, if I don't accidentally eat them first. Thanks, Chef!! (Top tip for anyone who wants to make them: keep an eye on their colour from eight minutes into the bake. They can go from perfect to burned in less than 30 seconds.)
swap the almonds for flaked oats, and you'll have something that closely resembles one of my childhood favorite cookies, the scandinavian "havreflarn". Delicious, i tell you!
I’m allergic to tree nuts, so substituting oats is a good thing to know. Thanks!
I knew they looked familiar!
@@evanpritchard927 well I imagine using peanuts would work great (since from what understand peanut and tree nut allergies are seperate)
I'm going to try this! Thanks for sharing
Havre flarn är så jävla gott
4:07 ".. around the outside, around the outside, around the outside."

What Chef John is also good for: making me realize I haven't listened to Without Me by Eminem in a very long time.
My mom used to make these. I love them.
Thanks Chef John. I REALLY needed that “around the outside, around the outside” today :)
It was SO good, I'd missed it terribly
Perfect. These are one of my favorite cookies. I’ll make a batch this weekend.
Chopped bitter orange is a worthwhile addition to the dough!
I made these today and they turned out perfect.
Thanks
Sounds great
These are one of my favorites! And if Chef John made it, I already know it's good 👍
I LOVE THESE.

I love all your recipes!!! You’re so entertaining and explain everything so well. Thank you!!!
I've been looking for a recipe for these cookies for years! Can't wait to make them.
I have everything I need to make these cookies already! I'm going to make them! Thanks, Chef John!
I remember eating these when i was little and loving them! totally going to make these!
Lyles golden syrup would be another fine choice here - a nice, subtle, light caramel taste.
A great reminder, thanks 🤗🙏
Lyle’s! Nectar of the gods! Yum
Good idea.
Yep. Dansukker is the standard brand here in Sweden, but I'm sure any golden syrup will be lovely. It's a generally pretty awesome ingredient in cookies tbh.
My favorite cookie! So glad you did this!!!
I like the recipes for these cookies with orange zest in them. It add a wonderful bit of floral finish to the bite and aftertaste.
When I was working ft and pregnant with my first, a coworker named Debbie would make these for me and other delicious sweets. I miss her she was the best!
These are beautiful! I’m gonna try these! You are beautiful, Chef John, and fancy! We ❤️ you and Thanks!
Yes
I made this twice already! Not very difficult to make, doesn't require heavy cream, which I don't have, and so very delicious. Thx!
I love these, thank you for the recipe!
Oh yeah, Im makin these for sure, no doubt.
my favorite cookies
They are perfect!! I made them several times, especially! The best cookies ever thank you John💕🇺🇸
My bride just pulled the first batch out of the oven! They are AMAZING!!! She made them with gluten free all purpose flour, and absolutely no problemo! Thanks Chef J!
Just what I was looking for to gift to my family. Thank you for sharing this recipe early enough to make a few batches before Christmas!
Oh man this might be one of my favorite recipes from you, thanks Chef John!
I love your videos because you talk us through the process. I hate those videos that play music and are non vocal !

I love lace cookies!
These are my favorite cookies ever.
Thank you for simple and easy and delicious recipes 🙏
Made again this morning. As popular and irresistible as ever.
These cookies are delicious.
These look *flat* out awesome!
Another Holiday classic! Growing up, there was a lunch counter that sold freshly made cookies like these, called pogens. It was said to be an exotic European cookie but all over the world butter and sugar tastes good in a cookie! As for other holiday recipes, we are getting ready to bake anchovy and onion pizza!
Beautiful!
Thank you for the wonderfull
recipe.
Thank you so much I love your recipe
Love it, Chef John.
I literally was just looking for a good recipe after purchasing a small batch of chocolate florentines from Whole Foods..🤩 Saved and Bookmarked..right on time!!
University of Washington, Seattle . . .little bakery just off campus. Lace cookies. Never before or since have I enjoyed them. Thanks, Chef John! I'll try these for sure.
I bet those would be good with some Vanilla Ice cream.
I used to buy these from an Amish store in Sarasota, FL. Miss that store so much
Omg this is the recipe i needed. Ive spent a fortune on Aldi's coconut cashew crispies. Im going to experiment with those ingredients in this technique! Thank you so much!
Five stars for making my Favorite cookie! And now, I’ll watch the video.
You are the best ,Thank you
This looks soooo good
This was posted the day after my 48th birthday and I consider it to be the perfect gift! In the last few months my upstairs neighbor has collectively given me about 10 pounds of almonds that he no longer wanted. I tried to find out what he found distasteful about them when they came from Trader Joe's and Whole Foods etc. as they taste Just as they're supposed to. I never did find out and have been burdened with trying to find something to do with the dang things before I forget about them all together and their oils turn. This Is PERFECT!!! These are an absolute top favorite and usually make mine with oatmeal because I can't ever afford the high cost of almonds. I have so many now that I'm going to try both honey And corn syrup AND try a half and half for a more delicate flavor. Your description of the honey triggered the thought of possibly adding a 3rd batch using half molasses using the same neighbor's contribution... I need to spend a little more time on the science behind that one before sacrificing beautiful butter and nuts to a possible inedible failure.
Thank you for the Birthday Gift, Chef John!
I used to get these from the supermarket bakery but they quit making them. I didn't realize how easy they are to make! Will be getting ingredients tomorrow. Also, someone mentioned using golden syrup instead of honey or corn syrup - that's a great idea!
I made lace cookies once by accident
I was making raisin oatmeal cookies and forgot the flour. VERY PRETTY!!!
Someone brought in lace cookies this week with dark chocolate! OMG! Thanks, Food Wishes I can make some now, Happy Holidays!
I love you buddy! These cookies where my favorite around the holidays and I was always scared to try and attempt them since they look super fancy. Thanks Chef John!
When a Chef John video goes live right as I’m finishing my weekly grocery order, that’s the good luck. And all I have to add for this one is some almonds.
Yummmmm....I cant wait to make.
This is my favorite cookie.
Another great video - thank you!
Made these today, first time, forgot to eat dinner I got so busy.
WATCH THEM, don't go by baking temp. I had to do 8 minutes instead of the 10-12, size similar, am at high elevation. First baking i've done in years and it came out DELICIOUS (after 2nd batch) worth the time every so often, and a great party cookie
Perfect with a good cup of coffee.
Very excited about this video, I love these cookies
I loved your butter rum show. It was amazing
OMG that looks delicious! I am going try these.
Hello john, here we are again, to see your beautiful recipes❤
I make these with oatmeal - so delicious!!!thanks Chef John! Happy holidays!!!
Never knew how easy it would be to make these! Another Holiday goodness.
I've tried it after 10 hours of remote work. Simple and Fancy it is !
Thank you for this recipe! I replaced honey with molasses and it was divine!
"that person ends up with a gift card" hahahaha too true! I discovered cookie gift must be made the night before, or it will find a way to disappear 😋
Those cookies look 😋
Wow. Great recipes. Thx. Please have a Happy Holiday !!God bless
My grandma made these for me twice! I loved them! She was a brownies, chocolate chip and tea cakes regularly lady. She didn't think I really liked them.
I had these in Italy, but never thought to make them afterwards. Thanks for the recipe chef John!
Made them this morning...they spread like crazy! 8 on a silpat was 4 too many, so I'm baking 4 at a time. Very thin, lacy and delicious! But my first batch looked like the Blob! All melted together.
I used 1 tea spoon and still too big . Will make with less. They turned out delicious. They bake really fast and have to be in the middle of the oven or they burn :(
They are completely addictive! I usually use pecans but I’ve also made with oatmeal.
Thank you to much for making this so simple. I’m making them for the second time since I watched this video. I just can’t believe how simple and how very good I made them. Yummy!! I made my husband’s favorite cookie!! Thanks 😊 Have a happy holiday 🎄
