witness account from a danish survivor - "I shared a cabin with three other young girls, two English and one Swedish. We went to bed early on April 14th because third-class passengers had to leave the deck by 10 pm. We woke up to a bump after half an hour, but quickly fell asleep again.
At 12:30, there was a knock on the door, and my uncle said, "You better put on a coat and come up to the deck"... so I put on my coat over my nightgown and went up to the deck.
We had hit an iceberg and there was music in the first-class salon. There was no panic, not even when the lifeboats were lowered, no one was in a hurry to get into them, women and children went into the boats first.
Once we were in the water and a good distance away from the Titanic, we could still hear the orchestra playing. One person said it was the hymn "Nearer My God to Thee". I didn't know it as it is an English hymn. There were six crew members rowing the lifeboat. The sea was completely calm like a mirror. We were surrounded by other lifeboats, and there were many icebergs around us.
The disaster happened before anyone expected it. With horror, we heard an indescribable noise and screams from a thousand voices coming from this giant ship, it split in two, rose towards the sky, and disappeared. We sat petrified and watched it all happen, what was worse than the screams was the silence that followed, it was terrible." - Carla Christine Nielsine Andersen-Jensen

Imagine sitting in the lifeboat, Titanic gone beneath the cold Atlantic water and people screaming in distance.. and then the silence takes over, until there is no sound out there except water bouncing against the lifeboat. I am glad that the Olympic was far away from Titanic's sinking. Seeing Titanic's identical sister arriving at the spot where her sister Titanic went down just a bit earlier would have given the survivors a very severe traumatic experience.

Something that sends chills down my spine is the moment the ship was fully submerged. Witnesses said it was just pitch black and all you can hear is screaming and the twisting metal below the water. Just thinking about that monstrosity being so huge that you can hear it underwater freaks me out for some reason.

The ocean is huge and that you can still hear its cries underwater is crazy.
      Like, what the f*ck.
      What would that sound like.
Also, to think about all of that darkness, the scotland road, as it fell in obscurity, the water having completely filled it... insane. My mind cannot comprehend it.
The whole ship really, you know? Every room shrouded forever and filled with cold, unforgiving liquid, plus all of its little substances. What would it feel like to have stayed inside the Titanic and be able to survive the pressure? What would it feel to live in such a ship ghost and to experience its free fall?

This whole OceanGate tragedy has reminded me that the queen of the seas still down there and obviously still claiming souls. How the tragedy ended reminded me of the beginning of the Cameron movie when Brock says, "These windows are 9 inches thick and if they go, it's sayonara in two microseconds.“
So I had to watch the scene again and the Titanic got me back.

It's so great to see one of the popular channels finally get the fourth funnel's collapse correct!
The funnel canting up in the water perfectly explains Dillon seeing it cant toward him not when when the stern righted, but rather "When she went down." And also why he later doubted whether he even saw it fall.
It also perfectly explains why several people - Jack Thayer, John Collins, Ida Hippach, Edward Buley, George Crowe, etc - thought that the fourth funnel went underwater still standing, as it would already be difficult to see, but then submerge only a few seconds later.
    Much of an improvement!

A stunning new animation, and great to finally see some new interior flooding animations which were truly chilling. The improvement in the water quality on previous animations is fantastic. It was interesting to see that at the end, the fourth funnel does not collapse when the ship breaks up - and the entire stern section seems to stick up at a very high angle before the final plunge similar to the '97 movie - in recent years I thought it had been agreed that this did not happen and such a high angle was ony reached in the last few seconds.

Thomas Andrews was the Harland and Wolff naval architect who inspired me to become a naval architect and shipbuilder. You wonder what was going through his mind when he was spotted running up the grand staircase 3 steps at a time? We do flooding calculations to make sure that the ship does not sink below the margin line. So, as you say, once he knew how many adjacent compartments were flooded, especially in the forward part of the ship, the only uncertainty in his mind was how long it would take to sink. Fortunately the design of the watertight compartments meant that the ship stayed on a relatively even keel which enabled most of the lifeboats to be launched even very late in the disaster. Ships with longitudinal watertight bulkheads like the Lusitania and Titanic’s later sister Britannic tended to capsize if damaged from a collision or from one side. This made it difficult or impossible to launch the boats and speeded up the sinking. Surprisingly this was serious problem for the much more recent Costa Concordia. If she had been designed like the Titanic she would probably have survived! So Titanic was a good design when you think about it, but she was run by people with staggering hubris. Smith was very experienced with ice conditions and he and his senior officers knew there was a risk in running at full speed in the conditions could see and feel. So why did they take such an unnecessary risk? I guess we’ll never know for sure but there are plenty of theories. Titanic will never be forgotten by naval architects, but it seems the unfolding events you illustrate and describe make sure that it will never be forgotten my human civilization. We’ll done guys! We need a new movie. The 1998 Titanic was so disrespectful, more like a romantic romp than a serious attempt to conjure up the passenger’s and crew’s experience. The film totally misses the nightmare aspect of the final plunge because Cameron has no subtlety and no poetry just noise, action, lights like his other action movies. It also misses the reported experience of people in the water and on the boats after the sinking. It’s a hugely important aspect of the story so much so that you could ditch the first half of Cameron’s movie and follow the survivors story through to the morning rescue and even through to the events in New York when various actors got hold of the story. What do you think.

Cameron’s movie sinking is almost 90% to how honour and glory animated the updated sinking sequences. I always wondered if the officers just threw anyone on the lifeboats, women, kids and men would make it allot less chaos to fill those lifeboats

Yeah after many years of different theories applied, I was surprise to see that this one is closely resembled to Cameron's knowledge and the information they had at the time in 1995-1997 in preproduction of Titanic 1997, I'm looking forward to the next Titanic with James Cameron documentary and see if James have a new theory and put it into newest animation. I think Cameron's Titanic 1997 was almost correct, the only parts he wasn't aware of at the time, were the list, and didn't rise up to over 40 degree (stern rise) and the breaking in half happened in front of 3rd funnel, not inbetween 3rd and 4th funnel, so it is now like, back to being closer to the same as Titanic 1997.

A welcome novelty to see that all the portholes are not lit. I always thought that that made no sense. Ruth Becker said that all the lights had been on, but she can’t have been speaking literally.

In the animation is very good to see the correct break of the hull. The hull broke in just before and below of the 3rd Funnel, because below of the 3rd funnel were the boiler rooms 1 and 2 on the tank top and just behind of them was the high engine room.

Remarkably beautiful what you've done with better graphics tech.
It shouldn't matter, but the fact she seemed such a majestic sight makes the sinking seem even worse, LOL.
From about 57:30 as the view pans from off the starboard bow to ahead, the bridge appears to be lit. Is the assumption the wheel house louvres have been opened, as the bridge itself would have had no light source in it at all during night time steaming, wouldn't it? Certainly it's been dark up to the time of the collision.
    Simply curious.
Also, I heard (can't remember which video) that Capt Smith and Thomas Andrews went down to the engine room to speak with Chief Engineer Bell. Is that correct, and do you know how many minutes that was after the collision?
    Thanks for any answers.
    Cheers

When the Titanic began to sink on April 15, 1912, Father Thomas Byles, a Catholic priest, had two opportunities to board a lifeboat. But he forewent those opportunities, according to passengers aboard the sinking ocean liner, in order to hear confessions and offer consolation and prayers with those who were trapped aboard.
