Inspire Lupus India Initiative

Lupus is an autoimmune disease which means that the immune system starts acting against our own body. This results in damage to different parts of the body. Lupus mainly affect young females in the age group of 20-50 years. 20% of the patients are children. The most common symptoms are fever, fatigue, skin rash, mouth ulcers, joint pains and swelling. In half of the patients, it can cause kidney disease. Rarely other organs can also be affected. Early diagnosis is important for good outcome
With current treatments most patients can lead good life i.e. pursue studies, do a job, have family and children. Inspire Lupus India is an Initiative by patients from all parts of India to increase awareness about lupus in our country. This will help in early diagnosis of Lupus. In addition, they plan to provide a platform for patients to educate each other about the disease, provide emotional support to cope up with disease flares. This all will go a long way in improving the quality of life of our patients with Lupus in India.
