I know we sympathize with Eponine but Cosette has been treated like crap too throughout her childhood since she was sent to the Thenardiers after her mother died. I think Hugo wants Cosette to have this happiness and Eponine, previously spoiled and pampered now knows the real world.

I love this song, the girl who plays Cosette sings so perfect!
Really? I thought she was doing too much vibrato, but I guess that is just me, I have a bit of a thing against people who use it too much from my choir singer mother.
It has far too much vibrato, like a machine gun, and her voice is pretty thin. She can contend with Crowe for the weakest singer in the film. It's really too bad they went after A-list actors instead of Broadway singers to play in a musical.
Justin VanDenBos Agree that she has too much vibrato, which makes it harder for the audience to actually feel the song. I'd go for Katie Hall to play Cosette. However, I think it's fine when they go for A-list actors instead of Broadway singers. It works as to bring a new breath to the whole musical-adapted film. In the end, we still have great movie with mostly quality performance.
Justin VanDenBos I think her voice reflects how young and full of youth she is.
I disagree. I think of the Hollywood types, she's one of the better ones. Although she can't hold a candle to Eddie Redmayne, Samantha Barks, and the other theatre types, she's far better than Russell Crow and Hugh Jackman. And personally I prefer her even to Anne Hathway's Fantine. For one who does not sing profesionally I think she's got great highs, which serves her well in this song, although perhaps not in others. To me, this song was the highlight of the film, due to the overall talent of the trio, although the theatre version has far better songs.

Everyone complains about how high Amanda sings, because it isn't common to hear that in modern music...but I'm envious of how beautiful and resonant her higher Soprano notes. Wow such a sought-after voice in choirs
Am i the only one who found the lines where Marius asked Cosette what her name was funny? Like he's proclaiming that shes the love of his life and that he could never live without her yet he doesn't even know what her name is...
I guess it's like the whole young love of Romeo and Juliet, that neither of them knows each other very well and both are madly in love that it effects everything around them

Actually, Eponine has a younger sister. Though she is not mentioned in the movie version. Hugo's novel has three Thernadier children, among many others unnamed. It was Eponine, her sister (whose name I forgot), and Gavroche.

Man, the guy who played Marius needed some major vocal training. He sang so unhealthily... His entire head/throat shuck like an engine.
why r u criticizing Eddy Redmayne's voice when Amanda Seyfried's was much much worse? Eddy's voice was pretty descent for an actor and his acting was superb.

***** completely serious. im impressed that she can hit the high notes, but she doesn't use her diaphrem at all. Her vibrations are aweful. She's worse in other songs than this one, but she sounds pretty aweful. It's a hard part, and they should have given it to someone who's more of a professional like Emmy Rossum.
Victoria Lee i think she can sing with a proper vibrato if she wants, but her shaky voice here adds a nice touch of uncertainty and fragility, which is v appropriate for their relationship, dont you think? :)
It's really hard to sing 'way' when cosette is singing that really high note with me in the end I have this instinct to try and hit that note too ugh I need to concentrate my audition for eponine is in a few weeks

I was sobbing so hard during this scene and for the first time ever during a movie. Roominess was watching the man that she loved fall in love with someone else and even helped him get the girl because she loved him that much.

One of my favorite songs from the movie. Its sad but very sweet too.
I agree. The book is, among many other things, about the sad irony of fate. Cosette's mother was turned into a scrawny repulsive person scraping for her child's living on the street. Then later, Eponine, the daughter of the Thénardier, i.e. the people who bled Fantine dry and mistreated Cosette, finds herself living on the street, too, with nothing to eat and nobody who loves her. The book doesn't judge Eponine, but it shows that the wheel of fortune does turn, and turn mercilessly.
Just woke up and listen to it again, and again, and again, and again....

She thought he was coming right after her.
