      If course it would be. Acura has always been a budget friendly option when compared to the germans. Of course the Audi is also a slightly budget option compared to the actual all-time leader of this segment, the 3 series. The m340i would shit on this Audi and just about anything else also.

    • @alexross4062
      @alexross4062 3 года назад +1

      @@TheNondiscriminatory Sadly, yeah. The BMW's base MSRP is nearly $6,000 more than the S4, at $55,000 vs $49,000. The interesting thing is, Acura is charging nearly $53,000 for the Type S. They're going to have a really hard time outselling the cheaper, yet faster S4, while also outselling the bonkers M340i, when most buyers would just spend the extra $$ for the BMW anyways. Sadly only the Audi has been AWD long term, which means its fairly hot on the used market compared to the competition, at least where I live in the rockies.

    • @al151
      @al151 3 года назад +5

      You can’t compare an Acura to Audi or BMW, Mercedes. They are still a higher tier market, luxury brands not premium. Acura is a premium Honda and some of the models were sold as Honda in Europe. For example, the CRV in Europe even has a panaromic sunroof just like RDX, but some countries don’t even sell the Acura brand. Euro standards are alot higher. Here in US, you can get a base model Cadillac or Mustang, in Europe they sell them with all packages and luxury options included, base option doesn’t even exist. That is why Honda is a better buy and sell in Europe not Acura. I lived in Europe for 25 years.

Even the years old Q50 Redsport has the power this should. The TLX looks great, sounds pretty good, handles well, but the power is not there, especially against all that weight. The video shows the 4.2 sec. Audi predictably pulling on the 4.6/4.7 sec. Acura. Not sure why the video when the straight line specs tell the story. Note the Acura is still quicker than enough other sport sedans. Note too that there are better reviews diving into the fuller nature of what the TLX-S represents, and how it compares across a wide range of criteria including its superior handling. And from what’s evident in those reviews, the Acura handily beats-out the German cars when one weights the criteria (viz., acceleration, handling & cornering, reliability, interior & exterior aesthetics, build quality & fit & finish, technology, purchase value, long-term ownership value, et al) . If straight acceleration is what’s preeminent in selling cars, then buy a Civic & drop-in a heavily boosted Honda 4cyl. for 10 sec. 1/4 mile times while saving big $$ over the sport sedan offerings. Clearly discerning buyers understand sport sedans deserve a more sophisticated approach than grading merely on a drag race!

      @@Snookynibbles Good points but it still doesn't make sense that the marketing brand managers and engineers said from there own mouth this was the car they studied and strived to beat and yet it lost. We all understand it's more to a sport sedan than a straight drag race 🏁 but obviously there's more to a sport sedan than just handling as well. This car doesn't undercut its competitors in price by that much and with Acura at the forefront of offering great performance at a reasonable cost, this is what most people's frustration will be. Why spend the $$ with them when you can get slightly better performance and faster responses from cheaper competitors from Korea and slightly more expensive from Germany. It's very clear in this cars preliminary performances it's going to loose out to it's most closest competitors some cheaper some more expensive, I'm no engineer but weight is alwaysat the top of an engineers mind when producing quicker vehicles, I could be wrong. It is what it is, it's there first attempt at a type S in 12yrs I'm ok with the car, but selling the public on performance that's definitely not completly what they said in there press releases isn't cool either. If there piont was to draw enthusiasts from other brands to them, I'm not sure they make a very competitive case. But I wish them luck it still looks bad ass though.

The SH-AWD does wonders to hide the weight around the track but can't beat the laws of physics in a drag race. Im also sure the turbo 6 could squeeze out a lot more hp and torque than the Audi but Acura tunes their engines for longevity.
    At the end of the day the Acura is still the better car. Nobody is going to buy the S4 because it's a tenth of a second faster to 60. If acceleration mattered most in this segment everyone would get the m340i.

    We just sold our 2019 S5 after owing it for 2 years, quick car, mine ran 12.5@110 on 91oct at 3100ft elevation and it had the factory 20" wheels. I was expecting the TLX to mirror the performance of the S5 but I found out through other videos that the TLX Type S is 4200lbs and change. I weighted my S5 at the dragstrip and it was 3,990lbs with low gas. I haven't seen the official acceleration times from the big 3: Carnd and driver, Road and track and motor trend but I have the sick feeling that the weight of this new TLX is going to be a handicap on acceleration. The S-AWD is great and the car offers a lot for the value but it is clear that it is going to lack behind the M340I, S4/S5 or C43/53s.

      Interesting statement. I have a 2003 CL-Type S with a 6 speed manual. The car has a considerable amount of electronics but has hydraulic power steering that tends to get tighter at freeway speeds allowing the (true) driver to “feel” the road. I understand that that vehicle, along with the TL Type S of the same years, garnered complaints for having to “heavy” of a steering system; in other words, to hard to turn at low speeds.
      But I submit to you that those complaints came from non-drivers and also, old people who could better afford the higher cost of the top of the line higher end model, thinking that there would be an increase in comfort & ride, when if fact they purchased a model with improved performance and handling in mind.
      My 2010 TL was the SH-AWD Tech model, also equipped with a 6 speed manual (Mayan Brown with the Umber colored Milano Leather interior-rare; totaled after being involved in a collision 💥 with a 16 year old who hit me, claiming he fell asleep while driving). That car had electric power steering that was easier to handle at low speeds than my CL-Type S, but still handled without compromise at high speeds. It still had a “raw” feeling to it like my CL does.
      I’m currently buying my 2019 TLX A-SPEC (V-6) SH-AWD. It’s different than my CL and the TL. There is a feeling of artificial power present. I’ve driven the 2021 TLX SH-AWD and also the 2021 TLX-Type S. I was okay with the handling of both. Acura sez they made a mistake with the 1st gen TLX between 2014 & 2017 and are trying to save the performance name that Acura was created for in the 1st place. I’m gonna stick around to see else is in store. Besides my history of having owned 4 of them ( the CL and the TLX currently; also owned a 1996 Integra LS SE Hatchback with a 5 speed manual and before that, a 1991 Honda Prelude Si) they have provided me AFFORDABLE & reliable performance.
