      Cause there aren't enough HK fans, even to this day this video is still insanely underrated. People don't have enough self control to save their money up to buy something like a USP even though they are only a few hundred dollars more than a Glock. And people online will do everything they can to convince other people that it's not worth it to buy something like a USP or just any HK pistol because they think they are wise and smart for cheaping out on their equipment and buying $250-$350 handguns and thinking that it's just as good as a gun like this when it really is not at all lol .
      If people don't have the attention span or the self control to save up money to buy a high quality weapon, they're definitely not gonna have the self control to want to watch a 2 hour video about the USP and so even after 3 years this amazing piece of content still only has 63k views.
      Teufelshund is a valuable commodity and I hope he lives for another 50 years

    The USP is where my obsession with H&K began. I've owned a lot of different brands of pistols, but my USP never failed me. I have since sold most of the other brands off for the other lines of H&K's. I bought the P2000, the P30 and the VP lines. Each one is just as reliable and great engineering. So now I just HAD to buy the P7M8. THAT was expensive but, I'm glad I have it. Thanks for the info

    James, can't tell you how much I appreciate these videos. The USP was the first gun I fell in love with, and one of the first I bought when I began acquiring and training with firearms (VP9 beat it out!) It's still an absolute favorite. But you know how gun guys are, always on to the next thing, always shopping... This kind of video helps me slow down, appreciate what I have, get more depth. You taught me a lot about the mechanical functioning of the type (especially the safety systems!), a lot about the industrial-historical context in which it arose, and about the variants that have come and gone before my time as a firearms enthusiast. I look forward to having my ducks in a row such that I can throw money at you and do some real in-person armorer-type training on the USP and other HK platforms.

    I used this video and your other videos, along with guys like Small Arms Solutions (Chris Bartocci) and Larry Vickers, to help me realize that I needed to stop screwin around and get the best of the best. So now I have a USP compact 9mm and a P2000 9mm (so I don't miss out on having the chance to even own one for a reasonable price lol). I thought my VP9 was really nice compared to my other striker fired pistols, but I couldn't believe how beautiful and quality the USP Compact was when I finally held it and used it for the first time. It's like a work of art.
    The USP was always my ideal gun ever since childhood. I can't remember the first time I knew it by name. Was probably playing Metal Gear Solid 2 with my dad back in 2002. And then I saw the MP5 for the first time and that was my favorite gun for pretty much the rest of my childhood and adolescent life haha.
    And so when I decided to start owning my OWN handguns as an adult instead of just using the 'family guns', I was planning on just getting a USP of some sort from the start. But I let a bunch of know-nothings talk me out of it and tell me that I should start smaller and get something way cheaper that is 'just as good' and all that jazz. So I started with a CZ P-10F, which is a really great gun, but it was just wasn't right for me to be my 'dedicated carry'. So I bounced around through all the manufactures looking for deals on the midrange guns in the $500-$800 mark, and I was just never fully satisfied with any of them, there was always something off or cheap or unsatisfying about them. A few came really close. The CZ P-01, Walther PDP, the 1911, Walther P99, and even the Shield Plus was really nice. And plus, the Shield Plus reminds me of a tiny USP a lil bit haha, they have a couple similar design cues.
    Then I got a VP9 and it blew my mind. It was amazing. And so then I realized that I had been making mistakes by settling over and over and expecting that I would feel good about the guns I was carrying just because I got them for a good deal... lol nobody who really cares about quality and reliability thinks that way. I am not a perfectionist, but I am an minimax'er and obsessed with being optimal with the least amount of work possible (work smarter, never work harder when you could make work easier. That's why athletes have teams of people dedicated to making their training as efficient as possible, that's why billionaires have financial advisors, etc)
    I just didn't feel comfortable compromising on the gun I carried just to 'save money' or 'have something just as good and use the money for more ammo and training.' Well, look, I got money because I work hard and I work smart, I just want to have guns that I know are as close to perfect as possible and can take some neglect if needed. I didn't want to compromise in any way. So I knew that if the VP9 was that good, the USP was gonna be on a different level.
    And then lo and behold, I start seeing HK's branding and marketing from the past for the first time on this channel, and then finding it myself online. I'm seeing the focus of their branding and what it's pretty much always been about since the 1960s/1970s: sometimes you want the best and you don't want to compromise. Sometimes you don't care what it costs because you are paying to get something made by people were truly trying to make something special, and to approach perfection as closely as possible. Yeh maybe I'm reading into the branding and marketing too much and 'I'm falling for it', but based on what I know about the development of the USP, I really do believe that the marketing is reflecting a real drive and real purpose behind the scenes, in the labs and in the machining rooms and in the testing grounds.
    I really do think that the USP was lightning in a bottle, and it had all of the right factors and circumstances going for it at the right time in the right place with the right funding, leadership, and the right contract requirements to make something special happen. And I really do think that HK throughout all of those years, and maybe still a lil bit even today, really do want to make a no-compromise weapon for people who really LOVE TO SHOOT. The HK pistols are guns for shooters, people who really love their guns, love shooting them, love the whole feeling and experience and the joys of gaining mastery without any interruptions or hangups.
    Once I decided I was gonna get a USP variant, I was planning on getting a USP first, but I had to be honest with myself about whether or not I was gonna carry a full size pistol like a USP every single day. And based on my other full size pistols, really the only one that I can carry comfortably all day for some reason is the 1911 lol. But USP is next on the list I think. That or an Sig P226, since I'd like to get one of those while they are cheap as well. Really the only guns that hold my attention anymore are the HKs in general, some of the Glocks, p226, maybe some of the Berettas.
    But with these HKs, I feel like I've already got some of the best handguns ever made.

    As I watched this and your P2000 video, there is a resounding theme of “reliable design innovation” when you look back at these ground-breaking H & K designs, and I have (as I’m sure many do already) a new respect for the design work and concepts, and respect them even more for what they achieved when they did. It really puts a new perspective on some of the “garbage guns” that are sold nowadays. I would rather depend my life on any USP/P2000 over pretty much anything sold now.

    Your dad bought you a USP as a Christmas gift? That’s the coolest Christmas gift I’ve ever heard of anyone getting. I have shot an HK45 but no experience with an actual USP other than CoD4 growing up. That game made me interested in military style guns and is the reason I learned about the 1911 and became a fan of the heritage as well as where I learned about the German engineered greatness that is most of HK’s product lineup. Although I’ve heard they’re physically a little bit on the larger side for a given magazine capacity when compared to many modern poly framed pistols, the ruggedness and dependability of the design very much pleases me. I love that they offer them in a configuration that would allow a double action first shot or cocked and locked carry like a 1911. Combined with more rounds of .45 and the ability to take a steady diet of +P seems like it would make an awesome combat .45 and is the driving factor behind my wanting for one. Perhaps one day. These videos are awesome. Regardless of ownership or potential future ownership I just love learning about these things.

    “But wait, there’s more!” Love the addition of four more non-U.S. models at the end of your video. There is no one outside of Oberndorf, Deutschland (actually, H&K is in the town of Lindenhof, in the district/county of Oberndorf) that knows H&K’s full line of firearms more than James, the founder and owner @TeufelshundTactical !!! Seriously, I’ve only been watching, studying and learning about H&K for ≈ 20 years+/- but I have not come across anybody with a greater knowledge base! The man is sharp, thoughtful to share his vast knowledge accumulated over many years, and he’s OCD to boot - meaning he does things very thoroughly and by the book. I honestly can’t wait to one day meet James and have him do all my H&K 20k rd full cleanings, my gunsmithing and custom work, and any repairs - which seem rare. I’m new to James’ channel, but after this 2:17 long video - just on USP’s!! - and three other videos of his that I’ve binge watched previous to this with great joy, I am on a mission to source my first H&K; the ‘HK USP Compact 9mm’ in new or barely used condition. I hope you are able to keep up the excellent work putting out these wonderful videos.

    Just picked up my first HK USP, this video has been a great resource for me! Something I found interesting, both my wife's P30L and my USP do not have the usual antler proof, date code and other markings on the slide but rather they are now printed on the underside of the trigger guard. Both pistols are date code CB (2021 production). I would be curious to know when HK changed that and if there was a specific reason for the change as well. Thanks again for posting these videos!

    • @teufelshundtactical
      @teufelshundtactical  2 года назад +4

      The change from the antler to CIP was a European requirement to standardize across those countries. That is also when the “DE” country code was added. This occurred about a decade ago. Changing the location of the markings to under the trigger guard began last year.

    Rewatching this as I'm about to acquire a '96 dated stainless USP9 fullsize in a week or so. Comes in the original grey case but what surprised me is it comes with two 15 rounders instead of 10 round mags, I guess the previous owner swapped them out at some point. I plan to install the Match trigger kit and Jet funnel. I would upgrade it to a Match clone but can't seem to find the barrels at the moment.

    So I have 3 USP45s. One is a tactical model. I branched out a few months ago and got an FNX45 Tactical. The only thing holding me back from moving over fully is the lack of track record with the fnx. Otherwise… I’ve found my splits dropped. More ammo capacity. Red dot is huge. Grip isn’t too big at all. Easier to activate weapon light. Softer recoil somehow. Not sure how that happened. Quality isn’t h&k still though. The safety and decocker feel hollow compared to h&k. I won’t be pitching my H&k but man this thing is a serious. Contender.

    Thanks for sharing James - love these amazing pieces of engineering. Any idea why the front of the trigger guard on the full size models slopes forward? On a similar note, do you know why the P30 & VP9 use a squared off trigger guard while the HK45 uses the sloped design?

    • @teufelshundtactical
      @teufelshundtactical  2 года назад +1

      On the USP, it slopes in order to fit with the UTL mentioned in the video. As the later pistols did not have that requirement, they went with one more fitted for a finger rest, if desired.

    I have a question about the O ring on the mk23 and tactical models. does this simply apply a tighter seal to the slide or does it pressurize when the round goes off, fitting tighter to the barrel? Love your stuff sir. Garand thumbs most recent video brought some great attention the the platform as well!

    • @teufelshundtactical
      @teufelshundtactical  2 года назад +3

      The pressure during firing causes it to swell and seal between the barrel and the tang on slide. This centers the barrel for each shot instead of the slight deviation in different directions the barrel would make otherwise.
