If only each person that thinks "red cards are ruining the game" could experience having dementia or MND for a day. You really don't have your priorities straight if you think high tackles should be ok. The spectacle of a rugby game vs the brain health of a human being. Get a grip.

Youre absolutely right as is everyone that states player safety is axiomatic, a given not a choice. Thats not the argument here though. The penalty isnt protecting the player in a explicit way i.e. the high tackles continue until the players adjust so the punishment will be implicit over time as coaches and players train more to keep the tackler lower without committing to the tackle and then the game will become safer which is what everyone wants. Unfortunately until players can make that adjustment in a fast moving game with adrenalin rushing it will take time until the game is where it needs to be. Rugby, hockey and other sports have always benefitted from a sin bin with reds seldom issued in a game of gentlemen. I think the argument is the form of punishment to be issued, the argument about the safety of the players is one I think we all agree on - its a game we all love and respect each other teams - no one wants to see players hurt now or through long term effects.

The Real problem is how similar events are completely ruled differently within games. One neck roll won't be called, but a slight touch of the neck will, then a vertical lift which almost breaks a players neck as in the Wales vs France game doesn't get anything. These laws make it easier for refs to influence the game based upon a pre determined decision.

That Doel try wasn't lucky, the bounce of the ball made the defender slip. Which occurs often in the game and can't really be considered as lucky. The commentary was used to make you belive the try wasn't as good as it was.

This is why I groan when I find out they're showing an Exeter game on TV, just pick and go try and pick and go try. It's a shame because you know they can also score really entertaining tries when they want to.

If player safety is the ultimate then touch rugby is the future, or limit the player weights, or stop players dipping into the tackle, or have height limits to prevent high tackles...or accept that climbing mountains end up with casualties: I speak as an ex racer...
Police malicious behaviour, but accidental head clashes are inevitable, unless coaches start addressing the style of play ie ZERO upright tackles

It's a pity Worcs. can only achieve a 4 point difference victory over a 14 man Chiefs side, with many 1st choice players away on 6N duty..........I suppose they have to take whatever positives out of such a win......

But the dangerous head contacts can ruin people’s lives. Yeah it’s tough that so many players are getting carded but players’ health comes before entertainment and it’s the way the governing bodies are trying to reduce the impact of head collisions.

    • @sarutochigcp937

I'd wager that if a player you support got hit on the head you'd be less inclined to think it's ruining the game and more inclined to ask that he be protected.
