Just carried out this job on 2013 Touran today and all went well thanks to this video so thanks!
Just a couple more tips - I removed the subframe complete with steering rack and the O/S drive shaft which then gives much better access to the back of the engine. Once that is all out of the way the removal and installation of the egr valve only takes 1.5 hrs. Also - except for the top exhaust 13mm bolt, nothing needs to removed from above (So leave heatshield / sensors and air box in place!)

Hi Gerard Burke.I do that job without removing feed and return turbo pipe, that save a time and prevent of oil leak from that place. There is plenty of room to slide that EGR valve in to the gearbox side.To make that job easer i always remove bottom engine mount and tilt engine forward and block in that position by wooden block between subframe and diff. Normally whole that operation took me 1h25min out and in new valve. Regards from Poland

I had heard of that prior to doing it but when assessing it I thought it might take longer that way. I also heard about the driveshaft removal too but again I didn't think it would save me time. If I was at another one I reckon (typical mechanic saying) I could get through it a lot quicker, simply because I had to remove the oil supply feed to the turbo a few times due to a failed gasket, and I found the quickest way with my tool setup to get that hardest ones in and out fast.

i think it was somewhere in the region of 4-5 hours total, the power steering was an electric column so disconnect the rack joint, stab links, outer steering and lower swivel joints, gearbox lower mount, then the subframe can be unbolted. the driveshaft and dpf can then easily be removed

Overall I didn’t think it was that hard and I did it on axle stands ! I took out drive shaft too! The only problem I had was the turbo return pipe has small amount oil leaking from top connection so when I replace the new valve I’m waiting for . I would say clear your day :) ha ha with everything taken into consideration like, rechecking fault codes & making sure the coolant system is free from air etc rechecking for any oil leaks before and after test drive. I would say 4 1/2 - 5 hours. I had mechanics say that expect to have it for the full day and they were right. I was at this one quiet a long time. Like any job the second time would be easier knowing every trick to speed it up. This game is not a race I say to every apprentice that I have work with, rushing through the job to break time records over time will cause mistakes. If I did not re check the job it would have been losing small amounts of oil. You know most of that already :)

I've just replaced the EGR valve on a Golf 6 2.0 TDI with an new original one together with all the gaskets and accessories required.
I've also cleaned the throttle body and the plastic intake gallery on the inside.
After this operation, the car developed a problem it never had before, when the car does the normal DPF regeneration, the idle is fluctuating badly up and down, it goes under 800rpm and over 1100rpm when i'm wainting at a traffic light.
Before the replacement, the regeneration would bring the RPM at around 1000 when the car stood still and it would stay like that, no fluctuations.
I should also mention that the sound of the engine also changed a bit, it's a bit more rought, before it was sounding buttering smooth.
Any ideas what could it be ?

Hello Paul, Sorry for the delay, I find it very difficult to get through all the comments and its not possible a lot of the time.
Regarding the EGR delete it is not that difficult I believe, I have never blanked an EGR permanently for obvious reasons with the workshops I was involved in. With remaps there are a whole host of cowboys out there including plenty that operated in the West of Ireland which ended up giving me extra work fixing problems they created.
Use a trusted company or workshop that has good reviews of this type of work being done. I hope this helps and Happy Christmas to you and yours.

Its a regen, dpf is cleaning itself by injecting more fuel and warming up exhaust very hot. Regen takes about 20 minutes. Dont use modern diesel car on short journeys, not worth it. Fan is turning on becouse of heat from exhaust, its normal thing while regen is on.

Ever sins the old egr was replaced I've been getting either exhaust gas or burning off of oil smell that gets inside of the car. The garage that did it has closed down. Taken it to a couple of garages and cant find a fault. Could it be a faulty gasket? Any ideas?

Simple tip on how to fix any fault on any VW/Audi/Seat/Skoda etc.
Sell the bag of shit and buy a reliable, well engineered vehicle instead of buying into badge snobbery..
All those car makers who got slated in the 80's and 90s took note and went away and fixed their issues, the Germans did not, they're living on a reputation built back in the 70s but now are just plane crap.

      @cundycross 5 лет назад

@@allanjones1330 Hi, most cars will have dpf issues if your driving style means you're doing lots of short journeys around town, bit that's a driving issue, vag cars have dpf issues full stop.
Personally I'd go Kia or Hyundai first, then most of the Japanese stuff followed by ford, Peugeot, Citroen.

@@allanjones1330 I feel your pain. I've worked in the automotive industry pretty much all my life, I've seen changes, some good some bad. I spend my days traveling to many local garages as an independent auto electrical specialist. I can guarantee a good 80% of my days work is German. Hence the negative view of them.
If something is good I'll praise it, if it's crap I'll tell it as it is. No need for glossy covers here.
Listen to all car reviews and they all say the same, nice posh plastics and fancy interior, that's it. I'd agree, the interior is very good. But you don't drive that. The real test of a vehicle is in the running gear, and we need to be mindful of that.
Unfortunately the masses go on image now more than anything.
Me, I drive a Mondeo, had it 2 years and racked up 60k, not one single fault. Disks and pads a set of tyres and a few services, that's it.
Before that I had a fiesta van, run 3 years without a single fault, 45k, still on original tyres and brakes, over 65mpg, and the best fun I've ever had in a van. Brilliant.
Looking at new focus, Kia ceed or i30 next, generally end up with ford because I know most of the dealers and they always do me incredibly sweet deals.
Hope your next wheels end up being more reliable.

Lambda probe open ring spanner set.
    Engine Support Device
Yet to find the bit where either are needed as navigating the manuals online is a right pain in the arse!
Anyone who's done it offer any advice?
