Yep, looking at the lists, there's almost nothing lands can do game 1. Their best shot seems to be T1 exploration into crop rotation/glacial chasm to try and survive long enough to get a lock or marit lage. Post sideboard they get a stalling option of mox diamond/sphere of resistance, but LotV shuts down their loops and Flash Hulk runs enough basics and fetches that wasteland and ghost quarter can't keep them off mana long enough anyway. JUDGE!!!!! Not that it mattered at this point but at 27:30. Carl resolves sylvan library as "scry 3 draw a card" instead of "draw 3 put 2 back". Because he looks at them puts them back then chooses to dredge loam
Someone at a Tiny Leaders tourney i went to recently ran that land combo. Never got to play against him and im upset because i know a decent counter, just bounce it to your opponents hand. Unsummon for 1 mana counters it entirely. Indestructible wouldnt trigger, the token just gets exiled
this content is soo good. i would continue to do the same format of 7-videos tournaments but even when the "best deck of format X" expires. You could do "best deck of standard of 20XX", "best deck of [modern no horizons](to popolarize a format maybe, i just came up with one)", "best deck of [no banlist pioneer]". Those 1v1 content are soooooooo god!
I wanna see Carl win the whole thing. He obviously loves the deck and plays it so well. Damn Flash Hulk, though. C’mon Toralf - take down Jamin, please.
I'm always amazed at Carl's skill with those weird decks, when he plays seriously with a good list, he is a threath. Cloudpost during the Modern Tournament had such weird lines, now its twice in a row lands pulls some creative lines out of trouble. Gg carl, gg
Carl could have also done the life from the loam/sylvan interaction differently. Mengu gave him a less than great workaround. Carl can draw for turn, then library will trigger and he may choose to draw 2 additional cards. Instead of drawing the first of the two cards, he can instead dredge 3 cards, return life from the loam from his hand, and then draw his "second" additional card. As Carl is not drawing a card via library's effect when dredging life from the loam, he can choose to return the "second drawn card" to his library. This way he gets his draw for turn AND can return life from the loam to his hand, and not lose 4 life. Additionally, he can choose to apply the dredge in any order such that he can sneakily keep the 1st draw for turn, and also draw the first of 2 cards granted by library, then dredge 3 cards and return life from the loam in lieu of the second additional card, and put back either of the two cards drawn that turn in case he wanted to draw that 1st card next turn during his normal draw for turn. This way he can float a card on the top of the library indefinitely while still dredging to loam.
it would still "only" be 8 damage. Carl could then just win the game in the same way delaying the glacial chasm revival for one turn, punishing fire the other delver. But yes both plays are good but would equally lose the game in this scenario
And if you where refearing to 23m before that, carl had 4 nonbasic lands, so PoP would put him at 1 and Andrea would have no creatures and no untapped lands. He made the decision to try and wait for carl to play another nonbasic and kill him on his next turn, unfortunatly the land Carl got was glacial chasm making it a really close game
Damn, that was a brutal match, I got Vietnam flashbacks from my days playing Grixis Delver around this time. My testing partner around that time always played lands, but I had a stifle build which was surprisingly good as you could stifle wastelands and p-fire triggers in response to your drs exiling the p-fire. DRS alone made Grixis have a chance in this matchup, backed up by FoW it was sometimes a nightmare for lands to deal with as it circumvented choke, glacial chasm, loam locks and much more. I loved this card. ❤
I'm extremely pround of my fetchs from 2001. But that Tranquil Thicket foil very "new" was beautiful too! That Crop was foil too, right? Omg, nice nice. lol
Real close matchup, Mengu being 1 land off from escaping the lock was pretty great. Glad to see a chasm lock show up though, I was wondering how feasible of a strat it was for the deck / how common it was.
I have to admit, I'm a big fan of Pauper, and I have a lot of Pauper decks, mainly thanks to inspiration from Cardmarket, and of course, Andrea is a big inspiration too. But this was a great Legacy match.
Fun interaction of Sylvan Library and Life from the Loam (or any dredge cards), if you dredge you didn't draw that card so if you dredged 2 of the draws you only have 1 drawn card to pay for or put back and if you dredged for all 3 of the draws you don't put back anything.

Not that it mattered at this point but at 27:30. Carl resolves sylvan library as "scry 3 draw a card" instead of "draw 3 put 2 back". Because he looks at them puts them back then chooses to dredge loam
If you kept watching instead of rushing to comments, you would have seen they noticed and corrected that.
Fantastic match. I love that Lands wins in legacy by being one of the few decks that can win at a Glacial pace.
Such a fun series!!
Woah! I can't believe Carl played a land! So overpowered!
Noooo! Mengu was soooo close!!!! This match was insanely close, absolutely was on the edge of my seat the whole time. Absolutely great games!
They already made a standard version
@@SkillsByNiels they did across multiple standards. i'm saying "best deck of standard 2009" for example
Our plan is to either do 8 formats, or repeat the last 4 again and then do a best of the beat deck ever series with the winners of each tournament :)
"My deck can pull it out"
Let's witness mengu's magnificent pullout game.
I wanna see Carl win the whole thing. He obviously loves the deck and plays it so well. Damn Flash Hulk, though. C’mon Toralf - take down Jamin, please.
Really fantastic game this week
That shock and offended disbelief at the peek through the deck, lol.
Oh good to see some non-Commander game play with real decks. Kind of refreshing! And a nice combo win with so many pieces.
I'm always amazed at Carl's skill with those weird decks, when he plays seriously with a good list, he is a threath. Cloudpost during the Modern Tournament had such weird lines, now its twice in a row lands pulls some creative lines out of trouble. Gg carl, gg
Thank you :) I love weird lands decks so I make a hobby of learning to play them as best I can!
No way this has 2.8k views after 5 hours. The amount of effort, visualization, this video is incredible.
This way he can float a card on the top of the library indefinitely while still dredging to loam.
the tension is real. already can't wait for the legacy finals!
Why not PoP instead of playing spell pierce? 24:49
Carl had glacial chasm in play which prevents the damage from PoP
it would still "only" be 8 damage.
im wondering why andrea pondered instead of holding up the price of progress, he was literally presented with an opportunity to use it immediately
Man what a series!
Mengu complimenting his lands was great 😂
I'm extremely pround of my fetchs from 2001. But that Tranquil Thicket foil very "new" was beautiful too! That Crop was foil too, right? Omg, nice nice. lol
Wow, I wouldn't have won that 3rd game. Well played!
Finding that Diabolic Edict for the Marit Lage without having the mana for must've been painful
Pauper is such a wonderful format! Getting to play with the most powerful commons is a treat! Especially since most players can afford it :)
Man, I was rooting for Delver to the end. Very nearly had it, with Chasm just barely saving Lands from Price of Progress.
Damn that was actually closer than I thought
Fun interaction of Sylvan Library and Life from the Loam (or any dredge cards), if you dredge you didn't draw that card so if you dredged 2 of the draws you only have 1 drawn card to pay for or put back and if you dredged for all 3 of the draws you don't put back anything.
It's a joy to see Carl on Lands :3
Hay Carl, that lock was so well done!
Thank you :) sorry I mispronounced chasm 😅 it's not my native language
New cardmarket video 🎉🎉🎉
