As an Aussie who was born in Madeira all I can say is un-bloody believable, the shot of the sunrise upon the tree at Pico Ruivo left me in absolute ore. I have walked past that tree a number of times and never paid much attention to it. Nigel your photos a breath taking and absolutely beautiful. Thank you 🙏
Your titles always look like clickbait so I'm normally hesitant to click them but your content is some of the best on youtube. Thanks for all of the hard work - the rest of us really get to benefit from your videos
Nigel you should get some tee shirts and coffee mugs that say “It doesn’t get any better than this” and market them on your website. I always enjoy the positive attitude you bring to your channel.
Here is Pico Ruivo and in the background Pico do Areiro, very close to where I live here on the north coast of the island, I've done this Vareda several times. I'm watching your work here on the channel, thank you for sharing the wonder of Madeira Rui Joao
From this vlog, I learn not only awake in very early morning but full preparation: map reading, weather forecasting, composition planning and good physique. All attributes of amazing shoots.
Nigel you have the uncanny knack to being at the right place at the right time. It takes a lot and accolades for your incredible efforts you put in to take a shot
Phenomenal, Nigel. Well done! Not only are these photos epic, your video production is amazing, and really helps us mere mortal photographers approach the scene with far better focus and certainty. Thank you!
I’m starting to build a list of photography locations to visit once all this craziness has calmed down. This is definitely going on there! Another great video Nigel. I only started photography as a hobby in January 2020 and your you tube and Masterclass videos have been a massive help and inspiration to me. Thank you and happy new year 🥳
I'm a photographer myself and I know how much awareness, dedication and concentration it takes to uncover and bag all or at least some of those stunning photos which are hiding around us. But to simultaneously do a really good video of this quest is something that is simply beyond me. I'd mess up both the photos and the video. Of course I know you're not doing this alone, but this does not diminish my admiration...
I am left in awe and speechless! Your work is purely phenomenal! Thank you for taking the time to show us how you visualize and compose your shots! I can not hit the like button enough to show how much I love your work!
Madeira is our favourite place to go to. It really does provide everything a photographer needs for stunning pictures. Your photos are breathtakingly beautiful ! 😍⛰️🏞️🌄🌅
Great and important tip! Here is another one: When you come to a new location, you feel the climb in your legs, enjoy the smell, sense the climate and remember your journey and the last evening. But all this cannot be seen in your picture. And being in a tourist location, others have probably discovered "your" view before you (a quick web search with "madeira mountain tree" will result in several photos of the exact same tree). So you also have to make this extra effort to get a remarkable result anyway. Nigel managed to do this! Good job!
Wow, the last picture with the bird leaves me absolutely speechless! 😍 The bird adds so much character and also the rest of the picture is so incredibly calm, warm and mystical
I've always envyed your positive attitude and really appreciate your commitment to prepping for "the shot". I return to your videos from time to time, just to get a new detail I've previously missed! Such an inspiration, thanks!
Triple-S --- superb, stunning, sublime. Immense enthusiasm, determination, hard work, imagination and skill involved. Well done! A rare experience here in India, thoroughly enjoyed it.
Wow. Nigel. I agree Mate. It doesn’t get any better than this. I’m sitting in bed 8 hours ahead of you just watching and learning from you. We wish you and Family a very safe, happy, productive and safe 2021.
absolutely gorgeous. The lighting is stunning and you couldn't have planned it any better having been there the day before. Great photos and the music fit the dramatic lighting perfectly.
I've taken hundreds of photos of those dead exposed trees. Seeing yours, and your shooting process, God! do I have so much to learn! I just love their ghost-like appearance. Amazing photos, once again. Thanks for sharing the beauty of my homeland.
Always something to look forward to is your Sunday morning video with cup of tea. This week was awesome! What a great location and scenes. I was pausing and going back and forth to take it all in.
I've been going to Madeira every year since 2003, except 2020, and I have probably 200+ photos of those dead trees on the walk from Achada do Teixeira to Pico Ruivo. It's just a wonderful, wonderful place. Hopefully I can travel back in 2021.
Wow. The bar has certainly been set high on this vlog Nigel. What a stunning location to be in, and to come back with those images. Wow. Thanks for sharing again Nigel
Nigel this whole video was epic, true master! So excited for the next video by the sea. You are teaching and giving best techniques and tips, respect and thanks for that!
I’ve been watching your videos for a long time and have to say The Madeira ones were my favourite so far. Unbelievable shots Nigel, even got my wife’s attention. Can’t wait for the coastal one as I live in North Wales opposite a beach
Wow! Great photos and really valuable to see how you took them. One of my favourites is the one with the bird at minute 14. Thank you, Nigel, for posting such helpful and at the same time entertaining videos. Always a pleasure!
Truly inspiring and ecstatic images that leave me holding my breath. I would love to see a future video, similar to the bad-good photo video from December 2019, discussing how you critiqued the images from this trip highlighting your thoughts on what were the strengths as well as weaknesses when reviewing this epic trip.
Those tree compositions are epic. Your sunrise photos are so gorgeous, I paused the video so I could enjoy them longer. The conditions were perfect and most importantly you captured those moments beautifully!
Fantastic work!! Love coming downstairs in a morning, grabbing a coffee and relaxing watching these videos! Hoping to be back out shooting more landscapes when the world is back to rights! Thankyou for keeping me motivated!
Great video! I really appreciate the work that must go into filming and editing your videos, especially when you’re at an awesome location and probably just want to take photos. It’s so great to see these locations through your eyes and see your creative process. That tree is truly “epic.”
@@NigelDanson one more question, I have been looking for a good ND filter set, and would like to get a Kase set, but prices are so high. Any tips on where I might find the best prices?
This follows on brilliantly from the last video. Awesome treatment for an epic location, and that shot at the end is amazing! Definitely deserves more views than this.
Interesting how your focus was a dead tree, something that I'll often try to avoid having in my shots. Good eye Nigel. Perseverance and patience pays off!
Nope. Not enough views. This should go more than it. I can’t find other video on RUclips Wher someone can learn photography better than this. Man you’re an inspiration 🤯😍
Amazing vídeo as always! I live in Madeira! and i do photography on my spare time and i must say that Pico Ruívo and Pico do areerio is one of my favorite locations in Madeira! Everything there seems so perfect! Looking forward to see more videos of Madeira!
Without these beautiful landscapes we are nothing. Nigel, as a photographer, what do you do to protect/ bring awareness to the place where you go to photograph or to just relax/admire the vistas ?
Could not believe when I saw that you've visit Madeira. I'm from the island and been following your channels for quite a few years now... What a fantastic job! Well done. Can't wait to see the next videos. 😊😉
Nigel they are all absolutely stunning in my opinion. Enjoyed every minute of this video. It’s so good that people can see what is needed for making this kind of art. You said it was going to be epic, and yes...it really is 👏👏👏.
I rarely comment on videos but felt like I had to. I’ve watched your videos for a while amongst other photographers, I must say you are probably my favourite after this new series. I REALLY appreciate how your videos are edited, they take you on a journey. It isn’t just photography anymore. Stunning images, it doesn’t get better than this!
Super video Nigel ! My favorite picture is the one with the bird @ 14:05 . You take the maximum out of these amazing conditions !!! Looking forward to the next Madeira video !
I really love your content and your personal style... Always learning from your videos. As a more people oriented photographer who is interested in all genres of photography I find your content really helpful and to the point...
Fantastic photos, thanks for sharing. One thing I learned from watching this video is to be patient on a new location and to observe elements that usually go unnoticed. I look forward to the next video and btw, I miss Pebbles.
This video has made me want to start up doing landscape photography again, I'm still learning and I had stopped for a while, this is truly inspirational to me and the results are astonishing, this reminds me of a fantasy world, it is truly perfection
Sublime captures. Beautiful, colour, mood, comps, they have to all. What a fabulous location. No doubt it gave you real happiness in those moments in a special location. Greta music alongside your images too. 🤙🏼📸
Nigel! I am so glad that you got to travel to Spain to shoot the forest, ocean and clouds in the Madeira area. I am sure it was a nice break from all of the restrictions of 2020. You pulled some stunning photos out of that area and have inspired me to visit the location one day. Thanks again for your video and instruction!
Fantastic video Nigel! Funnily enough, we are currently in Madeira on 3rd Jan 2022 watching this. So grateful to you for sharing all your knowledge (and struggles) as you found this. Will head to Pico Ruivo in the next few days :)
Wow Nigel, what amazing awesome shots of that tree in that location, and explanations into your craft to get those images. I am just starting my photographic journey as an older guy having bought a second hand Z7, and some lenses. I have been spirally down RUclips pathways looking at the work of yourself, Mads, and James to pick up so many gold nuggets of knowledge on landscape photography. I am so looking forward to this adventure. I live in Australia (Darwin), a very flat place so what struck me is the epic & open and locations with vistas in Europe you have to work with! And of course your seemingly variable weather which must give you so many more opportunities to play with light. We literally have 6-8 months of blue sky - maybe the time to travel to wetter places haha! Anyway I just wanted to say how much I appreciate your efforts to pass on your knowledge to others. Thank you so much. Kind regards, Andrew Raith
Hey Nigel, I love watching your videos as they kinda perfectly marry up some technical info along with time getting familiar with your surroundings, and the composition you're aiming for. Your Madeira video is so inspiring with such simple elements; a tree, mountains, cloud, and of course the sun, but they work amazing together like an orchestra / symphony. I know in reality taking photos like yours requires a lot more effort, experience and expertise. The results speak for themself . One thing that would be nice is if you could maybe add the exact location where you take the shots from (unless I've missed or overlooked that bit). I like to scope out the area on the internet and maybe visit places. Where you were seems to cater for visitors with nice looking paths. Some of the mountains near me in Spain just have coloured dots sprayed on random rocks to signify you're on a trail but the trail itself is treacherous more so with camera gear etc.
Brilliant photos Nigel, I can see Madeira been inundated with photographers. Your enthusiasm is infectious I'm off out with my camera but I'm restricted to 5km with the lockdown in Ireland.
Very helpful tips on scouting ahead of time in remote access. Notable are reminders to narrow attention to two things and how dark the site set up will be before sunrise.
Phenomenal! Really gorgeous conditions, gorgeous locations, beautiful photos, and EPIC music! These are the best landscape photography videos :D
Thanks mate! Appreciate that - really pleased with how this turned out 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

I think the shot with the bird may be my favorite photo I've ever seen of yours, Nigel!
Just being out there would be magic. The photograph would be the cherry on top.
awaking the "soul of a location" ans revealing it in fotos is the very best talent of Nigel Danson. Thans a lot!
Planning + hard work (up at 5, drive, hike) = magical pictures. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
