If you're a regular person, and take it either with pwo or protein powder, it's because it's just adding to the overall content of the drink. I used to mix it with my pwo but it was just too heavy on my stomach, so now, I just dry scoop creatine.
Bloating and cramping is not made up. Creatine Mono can cause bloating because it sits in the digestive tract for some time while the system struggles to digest it. You can completely bypass this issue by putting your creatine in something warm, like a tea, coffee, hot chocolate etc. Don't spend extra money on some other scrappy creatine. Just chuck it in your coffee.
or fix your gut issues with probiotics and stop eating so much processed food full of agrochemicals that stresses the gut. alot of people with IBS nowadays because of themself its all the transfat vegetable oils, GMO's , antibiotics from foods causing it.
Everyones body reacts differently. I have been using creatine mono for about 26 yrs and have never had any issues of bloating and at times I have taken more then the normal 5 MG dose.
Occasionally I'll get a little bloat, but I think that it's just a full tummy from chugging water. It also helps to not drink it on a totally empty stomach.

@@lukasbirkmann3240 your stomach acid is HCl, it is all a matter of concentration. Of course consuming highly concentrated acid is bad, but creatine HCl isn't that.
Creatine monohydrate does actually bloat me though and HCL doesn't. I'm not taking any creatine for the moment, but it's the main reason why if I was using creatine, it would be HCL and not monohydrate, regardless of the cost increase per serving
Exactly that’s what I’m saying. In my personal experience the difference between HCL and Mono was very noticeable. I’d never go back to mono personally
Mono hydrate effects my stomach negatively and I’m sensitive with absorption issues and specific protein allergens, so hcl doesn’t do that it’s legit a great option for people like me
It's still the same supplement, you're promoting a bit of scientific ignorance here. This is just a difference in what the creatine itself is bound to. Monohydrates are simply bulkier but a cheaper stabilization and anti-clumping method. Both forms still break down in your digestive system to pure creatine and then absorbed into the bloodstream.
One reason to pay the premium is that since the dosage is less, it’s pretty good for travel since most creatine HCL packaging comes in a small jar. Would rather pay extra to lug that around than than a large tub of monohydrate that TSA is gonna pull me outta line for
Agree, that's the only reason I use HCl. I use monohydrate when not traveling. Is there any case for HCl when not traveling? It's a lot more expensive for an equivalent dose, I find.
I mean to be honest though regular mono definitely causes bloating for many people (including myself). So it's not fair to say it's just a "made up" problem with an imaginary fix, it's a real thing and HCL does fix it :/
So I can attest to regular creatine monohydrate giving me an upset stomach. Now I could normally get around it by always eating something with it, but I did find that HCL didn't mess my stomach up. I love how he said being more water soluble helps digestion. U could eat dirt and your stomach acid would dissolve it not saying, u should, but there's tons of medication that's not well dissolvable in water but that doesn't matter because water has barely anything to do with digestion.
medication is almost always in the form of salts to give it better bioavailability tho. just because you have stomach acid and what not doesn't mean you dissolve everything and anything. And water solubility is actually important, as is pH. Still, you can't compare solubility of medication and solubility of supplements, because medication(usually) is needed as quickly as possible and in higher % of the consumed quantity in your blood, because of pharmacokinetics, while even if you take a supplement with 10% bioavailability you could take like 10 tablets to reach the dose of a 100% bioavailable supplement and there wouldn't be any problem, because you don't really need it asap and the "therapeutic" window in most supplements is much wider than the therapeutic window in medicine

I am a pharmacist and see this all the time. Pharmaceutical companies play similar tricks with prescription drugs. For example the medication Wellbutrin initially came out decades ago as an immediate release tablet that needed to be dosed three times per day due to having a short half-life. Then before the patent expires the drug company releases it as an SR (sustained-release) tablet that can be dosed twice daily. Then a few years later they do it again and call it Wellbutrin XL which is now dosed once daily. One way to take the same exact same drug and extend their patent to continue making a profit on it. Sure it does improve compliance when the patient only needs to take one dose per day instead of three but why not develop that formulation initially? Answer: $$$
They experiment with patients with out the patients even knowing I'was on psychotic med's for year's and caught onto the trick's doctor's play with patients. they pressure the patient to switch med's then they ask questions later.
At least extended release has some usage. Another even dirtier tactic they'll use is bind something inert or digestible to the drug that gets cleaved off in digestion. They can patent this as a new drug because the chemical structure has technically changed, but the drug itself is actually still the same shit once it gets to your blood stream.
Pharmaceutical chemist here, the HCl formulation does bypass a lot of the negative effects because you have to take less, so it means it is absorbed better, meaning it has higher bioavailability. Besides supplementary creatine is not needed to build muscle mass.

I actually agree with the no bloating part. I started on HCL and then switched to monohydrate and couldn’t take it. I have a sensitive gut so maybe it doesn’t matter for most people.
Hi man, I have a similar problem too with stomach bloating which is why I’ve been afraid to take creatine. Would you say that the HCL creatine caused no side effects compared to the mono? Including things like diarrhoea and cramping?
I love your no BS content. Just a note, totally anecdotal but I know a bunch of folks with stomach issues who had trouble with monohydrate but not HCl, myself included. I realize this wasn't shown in studies but just worth noting.
This has very recently been proven otherwise. Height, weight and metabolism has a big effect on needs. It's now been recommended to take 10g for the average person. This is as a result of someone who is 6'4 200lbs actually needing as much as 15g for optimal effects.
I think people don’t truly understand what creatine is and how it works creatine is a natural thing your body already makes and is used in the production of atp when a muscle contracts a neuron fires causing many steps I don’t want to explain and towards the end it releases calcium which attaches to your muscle and the old atp pulls your muscle causing it to contract and new atp let’s you release which is why when you have low calcium water potassium you are prone to cramps because your body isn’t able to let go so you stay cramped I don’t understand this notion of creatine makes you look bigger it just helps you make more atp which in turn helps you work out for longer which makes you build more muscle
Probably used to much, it's like sugar and water the more sugar you put in a glass of water the more you gotta stir it and will take longer to dissolve This happened to me years ago I mixed to much protein in my water and hours later still could feel powder in my mouth
Want to reduce stomach discomfort with creatine? Disolve if fully in warm water (not hot), and don't mix it in cold water. If you want to drink it cold you can add ice and it won't fall out of solution. If it's not disolving add more water. If you want to drink it with Gatorade then it'll take longer, but the time to dissolve can be decreased by drinking room temperature Gatorade (yuck). Also make sure it's micronized creatine monohydrate. It disolves quicker. I mix mine with my morning water bottle. I add 5g to 1L of room temperature water. It takes about an hour and a half to disolve completely. It doesn't actually matter when you take your creatine, just that you take it. *Skip this next part if you aren't interested in learning about the physiology and pharmacology* Creatine monohydrate is available as a granulated powder. It's crystals are white and slightly translucent. When added to water it disolves very slowly. Creatine isn't very soluble or stable in water. At 8H you've lost 5% and at 24H you've lost 20% of the creatine just by it breaking down in the water. Here's the life of creatine when you injest this power when dispersed (not disolved) in water and why it causes GI discomfort. Creatine hits the stomach where its nitrogen components are protonated. This doesn't really have much of an effect on the actual protein as it is too small to fold anyway. It is then moved along the GI tract. The undisolved crystals are completely happy remaining undisolved, but their presence alone draws water from inside your body into the intestinal tract. Your body doesn't like this. This increased water content in your gut causes that uncomfortable bloated feeling. After the creatine is disolved in your gut it can then be absorbed by your body. You don't end up losing any water because it is reabsorbed in the large intestine. Disolving the creatine completely before consumption reduces this bloated feeling. *End physiology and pharmacology* Another option is to try not loading. You don't need to load at like 10g/day to see the full benefit of creatine, it just makes you reach full saturation quicker. That excessively high dose is what's causing the discomfort. You're going to be taking it forever anyway, so it's better to just take it at a normal dose of 3-5g/day than to deal with the GI upset imo. It'll take about a month to reach full saturation vs. 2-3 weeks when you load, and loading doesn't provide any added benefits in strength or performance. Basically you'll see improvement in strength and performance in roughly 2-4 weeks regardless if you've achieved full saturation or not. If you're not seeing results with creatine it's for any of 3 reasons: 1) you're not applying the concept of progressive overload appropriately. Increase the weights, and buckle down on your form. You want keep tension on the muscle for the entire lift and make sure you do not use momentum. 2) you're a creatine non responder. Unfortunately you lost the genetic lottery. The great news is after around 6 months to 1 year you'll be in the same place as people who started with creatine anyway so all is not lost. Keep up with your program, apply the concepts of progressive overload properly, and trust the process. Keep on the grind. 3) you got scammed and didn't actually buy creatine. Creatine is just a protein made of L-arginine, glycine, and L-methionine. You only want to see "Creatine Monohydrate" on the label with no other ingredients. If they break it down into those amino acids then it's not creatine. Change your supply. Only go for reputable brands with proven track records for honest labelling. If it's suspiciously cheep then chances are it's cut with something. Creatine has been going up in price substantially lately, so the risk of this happening is getting higher.

I explosively shit my brains out with monohydrate. I have to disove it in small quantities in something acidic like soda or citrus juice. I haven't tried HCL yet so i don't know if it digests any better.
Earlier today I went to a new supplement store, I ended up getting hcl over monohydrate but only because it was cheaper per serving at this particular place. As long as it does the same thing I'm happy.

fix your gut with probiotics. stop taking antibiotics, stop eating GMO food, stop eating transfats (high omega 6 inflammitory garbage vegetable oils like they use at mcdonalds canola oil , soybean oil etc) stop eating conventional sugar , stop eating conventional chicken breast (they are fed antibiotics same goes for other meat that comes from unhealthy animals) , stop eating farmed fish (fed antibiotics go wild caught always) stop eating agrochemical pesticide garbage its bad for the gut and irritates the gut alot. if you fix your gut you could handle the creatine which is naturally found in meat. sauerkraut, water kefir, milk kefir would be very good to consume on a regular basis with ongoing gut issues.
I’ve been getting so many cramps taking creatine monohydrate but don’t want to lose strength if i stop taking it what do i do
I dissolve my (generous) 5g scoop into a full liter of water. Haven't had any GI issues since I started doing that.
Sometimes HCL is cheaper now. I like mono but I just get what’s on sale
i wish the popular fitness youtubers would address a lot of people who try creatine monohydrate and get bloated and not shrug it off

Hcl does cause bloating for people, thats a long proven fact. Hes spoon feeding you bs

How do you know how well it's working???
Tecnically HCl is Hydrochloric acid and shouldn’t be consumend but if your stomach is fine go ahead😂

Easier on your stomach? If water with creatine in it messes up your stomach you must have the the weakest stomach known to man
Creatine monohydrate does actually bloat me though and HCL doesn't. I'm not taking any creatine for the moment, but it's the main reason why if I was using creatine, it would be HCL and not monohydrate, regardless of the cost increase per serving
Ik that’s what I was gonna say I retained like 5 - 7 pounds of water weight on creatine

There's also the fact that HCL is literally hydrochloric acid. DO NOT consume hydrochloric acid
@@hoesseinh8346 if that mattered people would notice brah
It's still the same supplement, you're promoting a bit of scientific ignorance here. This is just a difference in what the creatine itself is bound to. Monohydrates are simply bulkier but a cheaper stabilization and anti-clumping method. Both forms still break down in your digestive system to pure creatine and then absorbed into the bloodstream.
@@hoesseinh8346 No, it's creatine bonded to hydrogen chloride. Hydrochloric acid is pure HCL dissolved in water.
Monohydrate makes me bloated and constipated
One reason to pay the premium is that since the dosage is less, it’s pretty good for travel since most creatine HCL packaging comes in a small jar. Would rather pay extra to lug that around than than a large tub of monohydrate that TSA is gonna pull me outta line for
Majority aren’t traveling with their supplements. Even if you are you could put some in a small bag wow. Whatever works.
Agree, that's the only reason I use HCl. I use monohydrate when not traveling. Is there any case for HCl when not traveling? It's a lot more expensive for an equivalent dose, I find.
I mean to be honest though regular mono definitely causes bloating for many people (including myself). So it's not fair to say it's just a "made up" problem with an imaginary fix, it's a real thing and HCL does fix it :/
you are truly a beacon of light in the business of conning people
So I can attest to regular creatine monohydrate giving me an upset stomach. Now I could normally get around it by always eating something with it, but I did find that HCL didn't mess my stomach up. It's literally a personal preference for me, and at the end of the day, supplements are just that. To supplement what you should already be getting from food.
How much water are you drinking?

@@d1rt_baggg I drink a lot of water, I know that's not my issue. Especially when I have my camel back, I would have about 2 a day minimum, sometimes more if I'm out and about in the heat. Sean I just wanna say you're doing good work here, I'm a new gym dude and I appreciate you looking out for us, keep up the good work
I love how he said being more water soluble helps digestion.
Solubility has a lot to do with the absorption of WATER SOLUBLE NUTRIENTS. It's in the name. Just take your creatine with hot water.
@@ChristAcolyte you don't get that that just means your cup of water will absorb it better right? not that your body absorbs it better because of the water. like dude said water isn't what helps you digest.

@@orangecat5036 💥👍
At least extended release has some usage. Another even dirtier tactic they'll use is bind something inert or digestible to the drug that gets cleaved off in digestion. They can patent this as a new drug because the chemical structure has technically changed, but the drug itself is actually still the same shit once it gets to your blood stream.
Oh you’re a pharmacist??? Name every drug

If you find that creatine monohydrate worsens acne, creatine HCl could be a decent alternative. It is similar effectiveness to normal creatine and not that much more expensive.
Id recommend trying to wash your bedsheets and pillowcases before you blame creatine but it could be a factor!

I switched to creatine HCL because it dissolves easier, monohydrate kept giving me the feeling of having sand in my teeth for the whole day
Probably used to much, it's like sugar and water the more sugar you put in a glass of water the more you gotta stir it and will take longer to dissolve
This happened to me years ago I mixed to much protein in my water and hours later still could feel powder in my mouth
I like this guy he knows what he talks about keep up the good work 👍🏻
Want to reduce stomach discomfort with creatine?
*Skip this next part if you aren't interested in learning about the physiology and pharmacology*
Creatine monohydrate is available as a granulated powder.
*End physiology and pharmacology*
Another option is to try not loading. If you're not seeing results with creatine it's for any of 3 reasons:
1) you're not applying the concept of progressive overload appropriately.
Whenever something works and isn't broken, just break it and charge more.
He couldn’t keep a straight face when the guy said HCL lol. Fr tho, I’m still not sure about taking creatine because of the digestive issues that may come with it as well as hair loss.
