Honestly, this is what I would prefer. I would defo not complain if they said one of the games would be adapted because I love the games, but I would love to see how a new story can be told with a movie format. Whichever it might be, I think it will be great.
It’s gotta be Ocarina. It’s literally one of the most famous games of all time, it’s immediate name recognition that makes execs happy. And I say that from a position of terror as I don’t want to see them mess up my favorite game all time.
Also I wonder if they’re going to make it a multi part movie. Part 1 is his journey as child link and it ends when he pulls the sword and you see him as adult link for the first time ever.
Miyamoto is involved so it'll probably draw from games he directed. Zelda 1, AlttP, or OoT. I'll also guess OoT isn't happening because we'd need to double up on actors because of the time travel. I'm leaning towards a movie loosely based on AlttP, with Epona and some other mainstays added in.
I'm surprised "A Link to the Past" wasn't touched on since it's another fan favorite generally regarded as one of the best Zelda titles by many and was also the first actual narrative Zelda where a lot of the common tropes got defined, such as pulling the Master Sword from the pedastal.
Ocarina of time would be the perfect first movie to make based on one of the games Story, and it would lead to majoras mask as the sequel if the OOT movie does great! But I have a feeling it will be a new story altogether.
I'm honestly really dreading this film 😂 I think what made the other video game movies work (Sonic, Detective Pikachu, Mario) is that those games are much lighter (as opposed to dark) more comedic stories that translate well to films for a family audience, which, being Nintendo, is presumably the intended audience for the Zelda movie as well. Zelda is darker and has themes that are, in my opinion at least, most effectively treated in a serious manner, which seems at odds with making a movie for families to enjoy together. Sure, Zelda games have their moments of comedy at times, but I really don't want to see a whole two hours of Link making faces and sarcastic quips to the camera à la "well excuuuuuuse me, princess", which is what I suspect will happen if they are indeed intending to make this film for the family audience. All in all, I really think animation in the style of Ghibli's Princess Mononoke would suit the Zelda series so much better. In other words, an animation with moments of humour, but overall a more serious film in tone. I just don't think we're going to get that in a live-action family blockbuster filled with A-list actors.
I don’t see them strictly following the story of a specific game. Maybe loosely, but you are right that the traditional formula of a Zelda game probably doesn’t translate well to a movie. For that reason, I think they create a new narrative or a hybrid story.
Yeah it'd be weird watching a movie where we see a guy go through 8 dungeons while having to have a whole character arc tied to it. Curious to see what they do with link or if they just make zelda a boss bitch main character
Although, I wouldn’t want this to be the game the movie is based on, as it is the “least zelda” zelda title (on par with BOTW and TOTK), I believe that Link’s Awakening would make for such an interesting movie. All the dilema between waking the windfish or not is amazing for a movie plot. However, as the first Zelda movie ever, it wouldn’t be a good representative of the whole franchise.
I don't want it to be a BotW/ TotK like story. I'm just so tired of those, it's been 3 games in a row in that style, the last classic Zelda game came out 10 years ago. The main reason why these games are what people think of when they think of Zelda is because that's been the only thing Zelda since 2017 excluding remakes. And also it's the Switch; All franchises sold the best they ever did on the switch Zelda including because everyone has a switch, obviously they're gonna be popular.
I think ocarina makes the most sense, especially if it can be condensed. Something like Link seeing the deku tree dying from a curse and delivering the Kokiri emerald to Zelda who opens the door of time for him. Cut to 7 years later where Ganondorf’s detriment can be explained by Rauru. Then maybe have link travel to the forest, fire, and water temples to collect medallions that are being guarded by Ganondorf’s minions. Leave the water temple for last for an epic showdown with dark link. Then after that have a final showdown with Ganon after harnessing the energy of the medallions or something. Idk, just a thought!
Seeing this a little late, but I think they are going to take the same route with the Mario movie, an original story with lots of elements from the games. I hope they take the epic approach of The Lord of the Rings with a backstory describing maybe Skyward Sword and Hylia and Demise war, or maybe some elements of the wars of A Link to the Past and Ocarina of Time, either way I'm excited.
Ocarina of Time, because it has all the classic characters. Link, Zelda, Ganon, Impa exc. Tloz is also known for time travel, and having the master sword in a non braking way, unlike botw, would be good. Then all the different dungeons and lands would be great for the movie, too. Also, Epona would be awesome to have in it, too. Thanks for the video!👍
They'll probably just do exactly what they did with the Mario movie Normal guy gets portaled to a new world and must fight alongside the fearless princess Zelda to fight the great evil dorky Ganondorf
think Ocarina makes the most sense. It's the core of the timeline structure. It became the foundation for the entire series both gameplay structure wise AND lore wise. Gotta be OoT
I don't know about story, but given the big N's recent track record, especially with the Zelda franchise, they'll probably end up hiring Uwe Boll to direct it.
Legend of zelda would adapt better as a series rather than a movie. But it may also work well as trilogy with 1 dungeon for the first two movies each and ganon in the last movie
A bit off-topic, but I think one of the reasons for making it live-action instead of animated is because the Zelda series, unlike the Mario series, have never really had a consistent artstyle. I mean, compare Wind Waker with Twilight Princess and then with Breath of the Wild. Every single game radically changes the designs of the characters and how they're animated, but since most of the main characters are human, live action could still work.
Majora's Mask has pretty strong movie potential, but I think it would work much better in animation, and its vibe is far too different from other games to be _the_ Zelda movie. If they were going to adapt one of the games, I think it'd have to be Ocarina of Time-though realistically, they'll almost certainly make an original script for it.
Zelda movie should use legend of the seeker or shannarah chronicles or any Camelot stories as a blueprint not lord of the rings It’ll be an amalgamation skyward sword esque origin story that’s also an original story is my take Here me out what if the Zelda movie is about linkle rather than link she would probably be an easier character to adapt since she doesn’t come with all the expectations and pressure of getting link right No one would really care about how linkle is portrayed since people don’t really care about her so it’s less stressful to adapt because she’s a blank slate they can mold for the movie also she talks I can see Nintendo going this direction to avoid controversy Legend of Zelda is more comparable to King Arthur mythology which a lot have great adaptations that they can use as inspiration The fact that this was being planned the whole time explains why the mario movie didn’t have Zelda Easter eggs Does that imply that all of the Nintendo ip that were referenced are gonna be stuck with universal and the ones that weren’t acknowledged are free agents? Do you have any tips on how to make videos? I was wanting to start a channel talking about games especially LoZ but have no clue where to start. Love your videos and I like the idea of a Skyward Sword story. Everyone needs to know the importance of the master sword. Especially with how they treated the master sword in totk 😭
My advice is to just start doing it. Write your ideas down, write a script if you can, and then hit record. It's ok for it to not be perfect, you get better as you go.
If they were to stick to one single game, I think it would be Twilight Princess that is traditional Zelda content but with the most characters and interconnected stories that would make a good movie. And I think it would work because in a way it can stand entirely on it’s own as long as you provide an origin story for Ganon, which I think would be better to establish it as constantly rebirthed evil entity before seeing his Gerudo form. You see him walking around like Larry already knowing he’s the epitome of evil and it would be scary just to look at him. I would rather this movie didn’t happen at all, but I don’t get to make the decisions 😂 I’m just cautious because I didn’t really enjoy any of these new video game movies other people seem to enjoy or at least say are not that bad. I found all of them boring because they take no chances. So I kind of just hope they employ good FX artists to make something magical and otherworldly, at the very least lol
I would appreciate it if they would make an adaption of or at least use some story asspects of twilight princess, that game is a true masterpiece and you cannot change my mind.
I do hope they maybe base it on the Ocarina of Time! That'll be awesome if they based it on that or a mixture of different Zelda games to make into a unique Zelda story of their own. Ocarina . For sure. 100%. It's just got it all. Potentially an original story with elements would probably be easier to put into film.
See ya Essay.
I hope it’s not based on any Zelda title. I love the games and don’t want my imagination destroyed by a movie that I have no high expectations of.

I personally would do it as a trilogy with Ocarina of Time being Part 1 & 2. Majora’s Mask would close it out as my Part Three
Hope its Ocarina or Majora's. Skyward Sword could be cool but I think that'd be more of an animated series

Link's Awakening. The chance for nintendo cameos is too good.

Here me out what if the Zelda movie is about linkle rather than link she would probably be an easier character to adapt since she doesn’t come with all the expectations and pressure of getting link right
No one would really care about how linkle is portrayed since people don’t really care about her so it’s less stressful to adapt because she’s a blank slate they can mold for the movie also she talks
I can see Nintendo going this direction to avoid controversy
Legend of Zelda is more comparable to King Arthur mythology which a lot have great adaptations that they can use as inspiration
The fact that this was being planned the whole time explains why the mario movie didn’t have Zelda Easter eggs
Does that imply that all of the Nintendo ip that were referenced are gonna be stuck with universal and the ones that weren’t acknowledged are free agents?
It’s live action because it’s gonna be a more mature movie that’s the speculation
Also I trust Nintendo
Miyamoto has been working on this movie since 2013 that’s longer than even the mario movie tells you all you need to know at how dedicated miyamoto is to this
They picked the people they picked because they want people that can be controlled
Wes ball seems like a Zelda fan tho in 2010 he said he wants to do a Zelda movie in the style of James Cameron’s avatar
As for the speaking situation
Make link canonically deaf and have him communicate using ASL throughout the movie
Problem solved
It’ll be an original story that’s an amalgamation of every game like the mario movie did
Most likely
Nintendo for their ip seem to be follow the stigma that animation is for all ages and live action is more mature
Either that or they are just doing what they want for each project
Tom Blyth Or Robbie Kay or Milo manheim or Austin butler for older link
Walker scobel for younger link
Florence Pugh for older Zelda
McKenna grace for younger Zelda
Hugh Hackman or Oscar Isaac or Henry cavil or Simu liu for ganondorf
Even Vincent d’onfrio as ganondorf play him like it similar to kingpin he would kill it
Akwafina as Navi
Taylor swift as Zelda is my joke pick but I see the Vision
Patrick Stewart as deku tree
Zendaya as Urbosa
Vincent dnofrio as Daruk
Tom Holland as prince Sidon
Tom Hiddleston as rivali
Angelina Jolie as midna
Y’all love to cherry-pick and use avi as a scapegoat as if there aren’t other people working on those movies that have more creative control than him
because that would have been too safe which was a common criticism of the mario movie that it was safe
Nintendo loves to take risks and experiment with different styles
Why is this any different
TRUST NINTENDO
the phases of production, an average Hollywood studio movie from beginning of development to the end of post-production typically takes around 4 to 5 years
Keep in mind in 2010 Wes ball tweeted he wants the next movie that’s like James Cameron’s avatar to be Zelda
We don’t know whether or not his vision has changed since then tho
DEREK DID NOT WRITE THE FINAL MOVIE FOR RISE OF SKYWALKER YES HE WROTE A SCRIPT BUT THATS NOT THE SCRIPT THEY USED
Detective Pikachu is a masterpiece and clearly having had experience working with a Nintendo ip miyamoto felt comfortable with Derek
animation is too safe people wanted Nintendo to take bigger risks that was a criticism of the mario movie that it was too safe
I applaud them for taking risks and experimenting with different styles for each ip
For a composer maybe Phil Collins or John Williams or bring Bryan Tyler back

none. none game.
it should be an original story, somehow about gathering some macguffin relics from a tree and a volcano and a lake, and maybe a desert or some other places… and then culminating in a tennis match with Ganondorf.
whatever it is, I hope it’s conceived as a trilogy… ideally it would’ve been a limited and pre-outlined _animated_ series in the vein of _The Last Airbender,_ but sadly, they went another direction.

STOP trying to get rid of time travel! There are so many great time travel movies that work very well.
STOP trying to include time travel! There are so many great movies without time travel that work very well.
I mean I would still keep it for OOT, just simplify it.
1:19 GROSS, do not want to see Sheikah or Zonai tech in the Zelda Movie, keep it faithful to the medieval fantasy roots.
Really how can you ignore Twilight Princess? It's the best candidate by far given that it captures that grounded medieval fantasy feeling quite well and was inspired by Lord of the Rings.
ocarina, majora as a sequel & a third movie for the third timeline sounds the best
