It is huge to know how to manage your time in high school because it is great habits that you will continue to follow in college. If you don't have one in high school it will be hard to create one in college. Tell them to start now, as a D1 college athlete I can tell you. With soccer, lift, school, work and social life, I can tell you that 24 hours in a day is not enough:)

But as a S&C coach in football, the track day sprinting sessions feeling easy was probably because sprinting of 100m distance needs a lot of recovery in between each rep to train top speed, with the neuralmuscular demand of sprinting in comparison to RSA demand of football. End of science talk haha good video 👍🏽

When you hear stories of how the guys at the very top lived their childhood and teens you can contrast to this and really start to get a tiny glimpse as to why they are so elite.
Folks playing in top divisions of Europe pretty much only play soccer. There is no "free time" that isn't filled with them just playing or practicing or juggling a ball around. It's basically 4-8 hours a day football 7 days a week and if they're in a youth academy system it's all day. These are the levels. If you want to be one those elites, your entire reason for existing pretty much has to be soccer. Anything less than that and you're looking at much lower league play because you'll get left behind by the ones that are truly obsessed.

What do you think of the value of futsal and how common it is for soccer players to switch over to futsal if actual soccer doesn’t work out. There are specialty futsal players in the world.

The benefit of the Academy is motivation. You should not quit unless your coach is terrible. You will know how good he is by how much you scrimmage. If you scrimmage a lot, then it is perfect development for you.
