Now 16 at age 12/13 I was at the highest level. One of the best in my professional academy, training with my national side, had a trial with Manchester City and was just at the top of my game. At that time I tore my acl and was out for 2 years and let go by my club. Struggled for years getting to the level I am at now and was basically playing in the lowest u16s local amateur leagues. Was really upset and almost gave up comparing the level I use to be at (one of the best in Scotland) to the level I was at (playing for one of the worst u15/16s teams in my region) after hard work sacrifices and just belief now I have been offered several full D1 soccer scholarships in the USA, currently playing semi pro senior level at just 16, was invited back to trial with Manchester City, have an extremely good agent and got trials for my national side. Best advice I would give to anyone is don’t take anything for granted, just because your the best player in your academy or whatever doesn’t mean you will continue being the best in 3 years time. Make the most of every opportunity, don’t think “working hard” is just giving it your best in team training “hard work” is doing the extra things others don’t do. Just overall make the most of every second because even if it’s just an extra 1 hour training every day, after 5 years that all adds up! Make the most of every single second you have because you might just achieve your dream, if you make the most of every single day and get injured like I did or don’t make it you will look back with no regrets. There was nothing worse for me being out injured saying “I wish I done more” you don’t realise how great football is until you haven’t got it! Right now most of you guys have the opportunity to play so make the most of it! I am now seeing the benefits of my changed attitude and hard work. My injury really woke me up to work harder! Don’t wait until it’s over or you get injured to give it 100%. Start now. If you achieve your dreams or not you won’t regret not giving it your all!
FC 3 Lmao, replying to your own comment on the same account and then using your burner account to say you've seen all the videos on your channel although they're private? Okay, seems legit
redbull_ 01 cheers mate! Working on something big coming our towards around May time. Not sure if I will make videos after that. If I have time I definitely will but obviously playing part time football, traveling a lot and I’m coaching also not got much time atm.
1.Quality and quantity combined 2.The best player at 13 wont be the best when he grows up. Training and hard work helps to stay at the top. 3.Create workouts that you can stick to. The worst workout that you can stick to is better than the best workout you dont stick to 4.Dont lock to your position 5.Have other coaches, mentors, teammates giving you critique and feedback, because the coach hasnt got enough time for you 6. Study soccer games 7. Pros do the same drills, just with perfection 8.Games at 13 dont matter, mistakes and losses will be forgotten. Go out, try to do something new, dont take it so seriously.(Tell that to my coach lol). You should take seriously the development of yourself. 9.The pros went through the same struggles. Dont get too frustrated when you cant do something. 10. The best way to balance school and soccer is to always be busy. Once you have done everything, then its time to relax 11.There is no best way to train. Every training has different pros and cons. You need everything, because everything is needed for soccer. 12.Every single pro has faced many setbacks. When a setback happens, dont get emotional, just focus on your development. 13.Nobody really knows your true potential. Give it a like to help others.
I would say this, find a balance. Don't forget to enjoy life outside of the game & don't loose yourself trying to impress a coach... be yourself & put in the work outside of what others see.
I'm 13 and my family doesn't really have the money to play on club teams etc., but this has really encourage me to not wait until I'm older to train hard! I think that with the advantage of school teams, and friends who play soccer, I can still get better. Thanks for this!! ❤️
Extremely possitive channel. I am a basketball player and your tips help me as well, because they are so versatile and help the athlete in general not just in soccer. Awesome channel, keep producing great and helpful content.
The problem with playing in other positions is that the coaches have to let you. I always wanted to be a striker. But grew up in a local youthteam that only had 3 good players. Got stuck on the centre midfield forever. Now that i'm much older i enjoy that spot, but when i left that club i couldn't wait to play other positions.
I love this video. I won't let setbacks draw me from playing football. I'll keep playing and learning. If I fail then atleast I tried. Matt you are an inspiration and I used to be a negative kid saying I can't do this I can't do that, but what matters is hanging on through those hard times and whatever comes your way you are always ready to improve. Your mental toughness is so huge and that's one of the best things I liked about you. When you got rejected or injured you kept training and recovering, you've doubted yourself, but never said its over, that's really inspirational and you reached me a lot Matt. When my life ends I will remember you. Well it's a journey, enjoy and keep pedaling.
have to say watching soccer has improved me so much. before i did not have a clue about position, but after seeing these youtubers constantly telling me to analyze soccer games, it took me to the next level.
😭😭 bro you have inspired me ! People told me I’m stupid for dropping out of school for soccer but idc what they say I give it my all and work hard everyday and I feel and know that I am going to be the best player in the world !
Thank you so much Matt, you really changed my life and improved my game ❤️ keep doing your thing! You’re changing so many lives of these kids who wanna go pro. Me and my friend always watch you 💯
When I was 11-12 I started of at defensive, then moved to mid, and eventually forward when I started getting better with hard work and my coach moved me around depending our strategies and players. I took like a two or 1 1/2 break from soccer and I’m finally getting back into it after seeing my friend play I’m just missing the feeling of touching the ball.
Thank you for this video. im 12 years old and this video helped me to work harder and that even though i might not be the best of the team, i can become a better player :))
I'm 16 years old and soccer is my dream! This video just...man, KILLER advice! :) you look happy Mr. Sheldon, there's a very palpable feeling of hope in these latest videos! Keep being awesome man
THANK YOU SO MUCH! My family was breaking me down, destroying my motivation for soccer telling me i cant do it anymore, with your kind of motivation you have given me within a series of your videos i would be were i am right now, i owe you all my respect. Thank you!!
Great Video! Number 4 is a friend of mine. In youth football he was one of the best strikers in the country. When he turned pro after school he was a left back...
Im a 13 year old and one of the best on a bad team. We haven’t won in like a year. I’m really trying to get to the next level by putting in the work that no one else is doing. I really want to become a professional, and I hope that over the years my hard work and commitment will pay off.
Mistakes don't matter and results don't for games in youth soccer. Great advice, the kids watching this video should highlight that part and get their parents to watch that part 10 times over!!!
great channel; you will blow up; I am not a talent anymore with 26 and just playing for fun at the moment, but your channel will help a lot of talents out there. Respect for that
Dude, thank you! I literally just came back from training and was feeling lazy because I've been slacking off on cardio when I saw this vid. I also just subbed and turned on notifications, this video REALLY helps! Also, are you Whole-Food-Plant-Based? I've been doing a lot of research and following a lot of diets. This one seems UNBEATABLE!
Great video! I think everything you said make sense, me myself are a professional soccer player at the age 18. And I remember that I wish that I knew you couldn’t train like the Pros yet since “your” body isn’t fully developed and train for example lift training etc. And put those hours in on the things you can change right then who will give results!
I had set out to transform myself from a decent soccer player to a great one. In November I told myself i'd be a great one. 3 months later, in February, I've received my first college invitation trial from Drexel University in Pennsylvania. I can't tell you how much motivation that has gave me. Not going to stop now
Thank you Matt, really appreciate what you are doing with such a great effort and dedication 💕 in order to Make us aware of the soccer ⚽ and to become elite like you Every achiever wants others to take the necessary steps ( like they did) and avoid distorted one that could actually cost something bigger. So thanks 👍
Matt,I have a question.I hope you reply. I m 17 years old.Play travel soccer and go to the gym.but lately,i been very busy with school and havent been going to the gym,but i ll start getting back to it.but i still play soccer daily and train with my team 3 times a day.I also do some workout at home. Do you recommend me taking protein supplements(if yes, what s the best one I can get) or keep on getting natural protein?
Hi Marc, I hope you don't mind if I try and answer your question. Matt and I played together at Sacramento Republic FC for a brief period. I could see your genuine curiosity in your comment and wanted to try and help. It is great that you are staying focused on school, and are still doing a workout at home and playing soccer all the time. Playing soccer is really the best way to improve your game. It is more important than the gym or even how you eat. However, to become a professional you do have to do your best in all areas. To answer your question after every gym works out and some soccer workouts I would recommend you take a protein drink. As you see in Matt's videos he takes a protein supplement from Vega sport which is a plant-based protein. This is much better for you over the long term than supplements lots of added chemicals that are not good for the body. Hope that helps! Zev
Zev Taublieb hello i have a question for u zev, im 16 years old and work daily but i need help finding an academy and an agent. how do i find an agent?
Big ups on number 6. Tactical emphasis of the game is highly ignored. Knowing how to press and create goals by out playing the opponent is highly effective
I’m 13 and striving to play at a professional level at soccer and I thought I was going to not do any of these but I ended up doing a lot more than I thought great vid keep up the good work
Probably your best video . I have a question, how much does experience matter in football/soccer ? Is it everything or is it just a bit of importance ?
Thanx Matt really will help me as a 13 year old and wish u a good luck in your carrier. Best video u have made I was waiting for this kind of video thanks.
Yo man I absolutely love your videos they are so inspiring and helpful litterly answered everything that was going through my head when u made a statement
Hey Matt! I agree completely. There are going to be many hurdles during anyone’s soccer/futbol career. It is how they choose to respond to those setbacks that will determine the outcome. Also, if you just work hard every day and stick with your training plan there are no limits to how good you can become. Many players struggle with not knowing how to train on their own. But, with videos like these and on your channel you show how it can be done by giving players the knowledge of all the exercises that need to be practiced and perfected. Thanks for all you do! If any of you want to check out my new channel please do so! Give me some criticism because I am just starting out with video editing. I am Colorado based so if any of you want to train let me know!

My friend right now is the sane. He is pretty fast and plays winger naturally. Since he is also really good at goalkeeping he is stuck at it.

Hi Marc,
I hope you don't mind if I try and answer your question.

Zev Taublieb hello i have a question for u zev, im 16 years old and work daily but i need help finding an academy and an agent. how do i find an agent?

Really good video. Thank you very much!!
Big ups on number 6. Tactical emphasis of the game is highly ignored. Knowing how to press and create goals by out playing the opponent is highly effective
