Tp-Link Powerline AV1000 Ethernet - Installation & Speed Test
You want to install a powerline AV1000 setup in your house?
We are all used to wifi but ethernet remain a good option and is much faster in every scenario.
A powerline kit will allow you to have ethernet in every room of your house and the installation take only a few minutes.
As you can see on this chart. the gigabit ethernet standard eats your wifi for breakfast.
Not to mention that we can all agree that less waves in the house is probably a good idea.
Welcome to useless tutorials, hope you will subscribed to my channel if you find this helpful.
Here is my living room where my router is and here my basement where My wife and I are working.
Sorry about the mess on my wife desk, its always like that.
My desk on the other hand is usually clean!
So your router is where it will all start, we will build our own ethernet network starting there.
You will need a powerline starting kit.
Essentially what it does, is using your electric installation a his own data transfert network.
So here I have my powerline kit.
An ethernet hub to split the connection in my basement.
And some quality cables.
Let’s start the unboxing process.
Ok, this id definitely overkill for an unboxing, let’s go with something a bit more gentle.
Installation paper, who read this.
Hey, some extra cables!
In the good old days, ethernet network where done by passing that kind of cables all over your houe.
You can just imagine the pain to do such a setup!
To picture the process, here is little useless demonstration on how this actually work.
Your electric installation is the network, so no need for cables all over the house.
Thats my hub right here that I will need.
Note that this is optional if you only have one computer to plug.
That sound is so satisfying!
Now I will plug one unit beside where my router is.
As you can see, my house already have ethernet plug but they are not working anymore.
You you plug the adapter. you have to plug it in the wall directly. Not in a power bar.
So hook this up to your router and this part will be done.
Now going downstair is the same process. Plug the adapter in the wall.
That would be ready for one computer but. I will but a hub there since we have a couple computers in the basement.
Now that the hub is up and running. Its time to plug your ethernet cable in the hub and hook it up to your computer.
Before you try it. Make sure to pair the two adapter. It take one second each.
Now its time to test our speed.
I will find an online site that let you do that.
The first test is with the ethernet cable that we just did, as you can see its fast.
The second test is with the wi-fi instead and its much slower.
As you see on my result. The ethernet is about twice as fast in download. Thats a lot!
Now one more thing. If this was helpful or entertaining. Please like the video and subscribed to my channel. It mean a lot to me.

ethernet doubled the speed🤓WOW!!! we dont have a hub and now watching this Iam considering we may need? We did recently pay for higher speed🙀as so many of us are working out of the house now!!
These can be really useful but its hit and miss. It was blazing fast in my former house but now not as good in my new one! its worth trying 😉🤘

@@uselesstutorials1153 ok , I must need cat 6 or 7 as I hav other version of tp links 600mbps and heard cat 5 won’t get as fast as speed though this , u should do a video of cat 5 vs cat 6 and see the difference? Would be a great video 😬
@@jhtech5807 This is actually a pretty good idea that fits well in the ''useless Tutorials'' concept! Btw you should be fine with Cat 5 unless you have gigabit ethernet or something really fast.

I just need those two white boxes from the starter kit for this to work right? I don’t need the extra hub thing?

How old is your house? Cause I was reading that the age and stuff in your house matters

What is the real speed of main router. Did you tell any things. Does powerline adapter give same speed as main router . Need to see comparisons between this
hi good question! the internet speed was 120mps down and 20 up at the time. So yes the powerline was going as fast as my connection in this specific location. I did a new video in my new house lately and the results were really different, feel free to go check it out on my channel if you want. thanks and have a great day.

whats your internet with ethernet before the tp link
Hi, it was 120 down and 30 up 🙏😊
Interesting. Thank you for sharing. 👍
Thanks for watching Wyatt, much faster then wifi !
Is there any speed loss ?
Yes some important speed loss!
how long are the ethernet cables that come with the adapter? also can i use any ethernet cable on it?
Hello, the kit come with two 6.5ft cables. Yes you can used any ethernet cable but I strongly suggest that you go with recent one that would most likely be faster then an old cable from 10 years ago! hope you have subscribe?
Does the tp link pa7017 support 5ghz?

Does the starter kit (50$) come with the wire and the 5-port gigabit? Or do I have to buy those separately

I pay for 400 mb, we get that when plugged directly into the router; however, with this unit I'm lucky to get 75mb.
Strange? I paid for 120mb at the moment and get 125mb. Have you try different wall plug? And also make sure that its not connected in a power bar! Thanks for your comment Chris, I hope you have subscribed!
@@uselesstutorials1153 yep, it's in the wall, I've tried different ethernet cables (3 different ones), made sure the buttons were pushed on both modules. Even switched up which ethernet port the module next to the router is plugged into. It's SO frustrating. I know it should work. I'll just wait for my new MESH router next and the problems won't matter anyway as I'll just go back to wireless.
@@uselesstutorials1153 Just bought an Asus Rog Mesh router and problems are gone away. I'm getting 400+mb and not using this powerline ethernet adapter. Way better and way happier. Also getting 400mb to all my wireless devices in the house too. Much happier and for not too much more money.

Pls answer
Why is nobody testing what speed can be achieved with these powerline adapters, everybody is testing their internet speed. You need to test what speed is possible between 2 computers inside your local network
Totally agree with you.
I bought this same model and I’m barely getting 30 mbps download. However my router is capable for 500 and I’m paying for 1000. Is there something I’m doing wrong?
Hi, there is probably something wrong💁 first thing I would double check is to ensure 1- that none of the receiver are plus into a power bar, 2- try to change the place where you have plug the units on the wall, different circuit can have an impact👍 hope you have join my channel ? 😊🙏

Good question! anyone know ?
How long is the ethernet cable that comes with the adapter? :)
hey 😊 the cables are 6 foot long each! hope you have join the channel? 🙏😊
I'm totally considering this option after watching your great video. However some extra information about would be great.
For example I'm changing internet provider from 100 mbps to a 1000 Mbps. I saw the 1000 in your TP-LINK adapter but I'm imagining you have a 1Gbps speed connection right? Is there other reasons to be loosing 90% of the speed? Have something to do with the hub ? Thanks in advance for your help
Great question! the adapter is really up 1000mbps but my internet speed was only 120mbps at the time I did this video! so I was going full speed and it was all working great! my tp link is doing something weird….. it stops working during the day almost like it’s on a timer then starts working at night…does anyone have a suggestion about this?
Good question!
so currently Im getting 250mpbs on a wifi repeater connected with wifi 5Ghz, i just hate the fact im not using wired internet.. so i want to get the powerline adapter but im curious to what speeds i will be getting then... worse or better?
Powerline usually cuts the speed in half from experience. So instead of 150mb wired into the router i would get about 80mb (3 floors up) which isnt bad and better than wifi
Thanks a lot! hope you have joined the channel?
From directly wired from my router im getting 120+ mbps and w this new unit im only getting 25mbps major yikes...
