    Smaller than the already "small" subcompact car segment, the #Fiat500 fits into what is known as the micro-car segment with the Smart ForTwo and discontinued Toyota iQ. The 2019 #Fiat #500Turbo remains the cute little city car it was nearly 10 years ago. A new standard 1.4L #Turbo engine with 135 hp improve baseline acceleration and sounds like a miniature version of the #Abarth. Its too bad this latest version is missing modern safety tech features and still suffers from a poor turning radius and bumpy ride quality.

      The thing is that's acutally true but they could suffer the same problem Renault, Peugeot and Citroen had when they were in the US; they try to build their cars a little more luxorious for the market. Here in Europe (well Germany) in my case the current base Fiat 500 looks like this: www.autozeitung.de/fiat-500-facelift-2015-101513.html
      LED-daytime running light, Xenon headlamps optional, but here's the "downside" at least in your opinion. All Fiat 500 here has a 1.2l 70hp baseengine it needs around 4 seconds to hit 50km/h or 32 mp/h. I know it sounds weird that I told you 0-30* or 32 time but that's were this car feels best swimming around in the city (I think 30mp/h is your average speed) and that's pretty much ok you don't wanna win races but for me it seems like all americans need a 0-60 time in less than 6 seconds.
      That's why you got this 1.4l multiair turbo engine. Your standarts are so high even for a small economy, urban city car like this.

    I have the 2014 Fiat 500 Abarth. I LOVE IT. I live in Denver, drive it daily - even in the snow. I commute from Denver to Boulder for work, nearly 100 miles daily. I've put over 67,000 miles on it with no problems, whatsoever - not even the typical interior quirks Fiat is known for. I don't have the problem you're talking about with bullying on the road. I ride I-25 in the far left lane w/ traffic, easily holding 90+ MPH heading out of Denver, on the 15 mile stretch before my exit. Fiat can hold its own on the road. Maybe you just can't drive, huh? =)

    This review is quite unfair. I owned a 2012 Fiat 500 and drove it for 75K miles with not one single problem. I then sold it to a family member who put on another 25K miles and again not one single issue. The interior leather held up perfect, as did the exterior paint. When I sold it at 75K, it still looked like a new car. When you watch this review he is driving it on the highway perfectly fine with no issues and he is easily keeping up with traffic.. He said that he did not feel 'safe' because it is small and it doesn't have all the so called modern features like lane changing assist...etc. This indicates that he is not a very good driver and requires all the help that he can get. I drove the car with four people all the way from NJ to Montreal Canada with not a single hiccup. It was a great ride and everybody had a lot of fun in the 500. This is a low priced, fun to drive little car that can handle anything you can throw at it. Judge it for what it is and stop 'wishing' it had all the things that the more expensive cars have. Be fair.

    • @rubinixcube8866
      @rubinixcube8866 5 лет назад +8

      mac daddy I have to fully agree with you on this one. The review hasn’t been fair and the comments have been terrible. I know someone with just over 110k on a 2012 manual (non-turbo) and they also never had a problem with it. I drove it (including on the highways) and even though it’s uncomfortable for me (due my size), it’s perfect for most people including that driver. They never had any issues besides the usual bulb replacement, and even with in the winter they are completely comfortable and feel (with winter tires of course) safe driving this car on roads and highways even at high speeds (140km/h) in our northern climate. I feel the uncomfortable feeling comes from driving far bigger cars for such a long time, the driving position, and also how small you feel driving it.
      I also agree some expectations are unrealistic, such as wanting a 8-speed transmission for a car this size.
      I do agree with the review that the car should cost less, a better and bigger infotainment for the North American market would be nice, and it is surprising fun to drive (but again, I drove the manual so that could be why).

    • @edwink1467
      @edwink1467 5 лет назад +1

      Just because you had a different experience than most doesn’t make this car any more reliable. Statistics show this as one of the least reliable cars. Of course there are exceptions and some people are luckier than others, but that’s not how overall reliability works. People talk about how reliable Toyota’s are, but I bet if you go search online, you will find lots of people complaining about their own Toyota. But does that change the fact the MOST Toyota’s are very reliable? Absolutely not.

    • @rubinixcube8866
      @rubinixcube8866 5 лет назад +13

      @@edwink1467 I've never seen any statistics about this car being unreliable, so I can't speak to that. But I can say that most people making comments on this car's reliability have never owned it either.

    • @bigmacdaddy1234
      @bigmacdaddy1234 5 лет назад +2

      @@edwink1467 So what? That does not mean it's not reliable. If I monitor two cars and they both work great for 5 years and one day one of them doesn't start because it needs a new battery, then that car will statistically be less reliable. But it's still a reliable car. You need to learn how data is skewed in the automobile world.

    • @edwink1467
      @edwink1467 5 лет назад +1

      mac daddy You have zero clue how statistics work. First of all, you just took a sample size of *two* cars. Laughable. In order to make a generalized conclusion, stats are collected from thousands and thousands of the same model and the average is taken. So no, if one car out of thousands happens to need a battery change after 5 years, it will have zero effect on overall reliability. If over half of those cars of the same model tested need a battery change while only 10% of a different model need a battery change out of the SAME large sample size, then a conclusion can be drawn that one is more reliable than the others. However, nobody gives a shit about minor things like a battery change. All cars need one sooner or later. The reliability rating usually refers to more serious stuff like the engine, transmission, electronics, etc. Be glad your Fiat didn’t have any major problem. Not everyone is as lucky as you based on actual statistics rather than lucky owners’ brat on RUclips.

It’s a niche vehicle, so ......... go pay 36000 for a mini.... same drawbacks, but in a nicer interior... or if you want style on the cheap, get one....unlike the mini, you get what you pay for.....and sometimes that’s a comfort.....you know, not feeling ripped off.....

      Tough luck here, John. FCA has discontinued importing the 500 ... upper management found out 'girls' don't like them ... I once witnessed in my local FCA showroom, a female sales person talking to a caller who'd expressed a desire to stop in and drive a FIAT. She talked her out of it and, here's a quote ... "I wouldn't put my kids in THAT car on the HIGHWAY."
      Driver's ed these days must consist of 48 hours to learn the electronics as opposed to driving.
      Now let's hear from all the pseudo drivers classified as F on their license ... get a mad as you like at me the car or whatever else you deem yourself empowered to hate ... the insurance companies are loving you, making a fortune due to your ineptitude behind the wheel. YOU JUST DON'T KNOW HOW TO DRIVE .... even worse YOU TALK TOO MUCH ... put the phone down!!!! YOUR CAR HAS BLUETOOTH !!!! Connect to it.
      Driving a FIAT 500 and talking on the phone IS "HANDS FREE" .... yet as soon as the phone rings you become a danger to us all .... every female I see on the road has a phone slammed to her ear .... a huge vehicle with four doors, no passengers and an empty bed ... girl, did they see you coming!!!! ... sold you something YOU DON'T NEED!!!!
      ...and the gas mileage? .... got ya there too .....!!!!! $80 to $100/week fillups??!!!
      Don't believe you have a great pension plan ... when you get there the 'rules' will have changed ... SS for you.
      ... but, what you drive " LOOKS GOOD " .... (you can't see it while you're driving it!!!!)

    Thank you for talking about the passing power. I had a 2015 Dodge Dart with the same turbo engine and transmission, there’s NO PASSING power. It was frustrating having the dart as a daily driver. Mind you, the dart was heavier than the fiat so I’m sure the engine would perform better in the fiat. I’m disappointed that they haven’t updated the transmission nor the engine.
    You’re also right about feeling insulted having to put premium gas in that thing. The dart and the fiat is a cheap car... but you are required to put premium gas into it....

    I've actually been looking forward to this review. Since Sofyan put up the teaser on Facebook I've been looking forward to his review. I was hoping to wold be a 5-speed instead of the slush box. Personally, I've wanted one of these since I heard they were coming to the states. I would have it as a second car, not a daily driver. I understand what it is and that reliability is a very real issue. I don't think reviewing old school models is his forte. He comes to the car with a modern bias. While this is good for the person looking for a modern daily, he isn't too forgiving for what the car actually is. All this said, I still want one...and hope he gets an Abarth soon (with a stick) to enjoy it a bit. You'd think a Porsche owner would understand quirky, unreliable, and decontented cars a little more.

  • @DarkReapersGrim

    I really want one but I want it to be more reliable, more fuel efficient and have the safety features/features that even a Corolla (which is less expensive than this) should have. These are good cars if you're driving or commuting in the city.

    • @chriskonte1909
      @chriskonte1909 4 года назад

      Right but
      1) They're not that bad. The 1.4l non-turbo engine is actually really reliable. Manual transmission as well as automatic has proven reliability.
      It's more likely that some electrical features like heated seats or power mirrors get problematic. But it's nothing that's super worring.
      2) Fuel efficency could be better but it's an old design. The engine-series is called FIRE-Engines and exists since the mid of the 90's with just the smallest changes to meet emission standards in Europe.
      3) Emergency breaking assist, Lane keep assist.. stuff like that would be to expensive to make for certain models.
      The Fiat 500 came up in 2007 and the plattform is even older 2003 or so that's why it lacks safety features but it was ahead of it's time when it comes to airbags: 7 is alot for a small car like this.
      Still it's no Corolla. Corolla is still the most reliable car in the world hands down but Fiats aren't as bad as people like to say.

The battery pack is below the floor pan which creates a very low center of gravity. I don't think it would be possible to roll the car. It produces 147 ft lbs of torque, from 0 RPM on up. Some people call it an "E-Barth". And... the electricity it consumes costs less than 1/3 the cost of gasoline in a gas model.

    The Abarth is probably the way to go, Its a very fun car to drive, Not the most practicle of things but certainly sounds and drives great compared to the stock or Sport versions. It still feels like your sitting high, and has the same seating issues, But it's not bad but may annoy some people. the handling is vastly improved as well with only a slight roll in bends. My only major gripe with the Abarth is it only has 5 gears, It really needs a 6th Because it feels like your thrashing it cruising at 70mph.

    I have over 100k miles on my 2013 500T. It's been very reliable, but I also keep up with the maintenance. For the last year or so, it averages 34mpg with mixed driving. As far as safety, the car is a rolling steel cage. It's very solid and then with all the air bags in it, it turns into a canolli in the case of an accident. As far as the lack if driver's aids in the vehicle, I do this old fashion thing called paying attention while on the road. It's an old practice that predates using a key to start a car. I guess if you really don't like it, you can buy a Corolla or maybe a C-HR, you seem to be the target market for them.

      I only get 28mpg, which is terrible for such a small car. Although, I drove almost exclusively in City and have it retuned. Which isn't bad considering what I've done to the thing.
      The drive train is amazing. The engine can readily be retuned to 695 levels giving it 190HP with NO engine upgrades. I have that. With bolt on turbo, and air intake upgraded the drive train can take 300HP without having to replace pistons and transmission components.

Fiat have pulled the plug on those now and only offer a NA 1.2 which is heavily restricted due to emissions and only makes 69hp.

    How can you blame the car for other people bullying you? It's not meant to be a big car so mention the size every 5 minutes? People who buy this car want a small car. And if other people bully the driver of a small car, it's their fault isn't it and not yours! Plus, you can easily get 50mpg, depends on how you drive it. Fiat don't need to do anything with it. If you feel unsafe in the car, it's you and not the car so don't buy one!!! You keep going on about the size, why not take a big car for a drive then instead of a small car you are not going to like? If Fiat put in the features you mention, all this will do is increase the price making it as expensive to buy as the Mini which is not what people want.

      @@nickr3441 Not really. The 500X is a bigger car than the X. Google both of them if you want to.

    I owned a fiat 500 sport and that thing was so fun in the mountains, engine sounds great with no power at all Which I didn't mind because it's a city car, interior was the only crappy thing about it for me.. probably just got lucky with the reliability.

    It has a build in roll bar, safety cage. I bought one and flashed the transmission and got a gopedal. Now it feels like it should. I don't care about mpg, I got it for the red leather, sunroof and no back seat riders

    I have a ‘13 500 Abarth and everything he comments on is accurate to a T 👌🏼😂. Cheap, bouncy, rough, unrefined, unsafe, tiny.. but yet so much fun with the added 30 hp and Ferrari competing exhaust.

    Please do what you can to get an Abarth. I’d love to hear your opinion.

    Now drive the Abarth. The sounds of the exhaust alone will have you smiling ear to ear. It feels like a motorcycle with four wheels and is a blast to drive. Take one for a spin on some nice back roads, and your opinion of the car might be a lot different. Trust me!

    No way. I'll settle for a Ford Fiesta ST 6 speed manual @ 21k before I look at a 500 @ 24k.
