  • As buyers continue to move away from small cars, the even smaller micro car segment has taken a huge dip in sales. Which doesn't help brands like Fiat who came back to the states in 2011 with the pint size 500 hatchback. A full redesign is in the works.

      You're right. I'm European, most cars over here have that recognizable small round shape. But I can see why it would seem girly to an American person.

I drive 70-80 MPH and it keeps up with traffic wonderfully...and given the real world traffic and congestion on most roads ...it is more than capable ......it is quiet and comfortable...has a great entertainment system.....very reliable...and comes with a 4 year warranty and it is serviced at any Chrysler dealership....I love my Fiat 500....

    I seen many straight men driving fiats. Depending on the color, its not a entirely feminine car. Even then, the color options are not totally Barbie like. A pink fiat is a rare one and blue is blue. Blue is stereotypically a boys color. If your looking for a inexpensive, practical car, a fiat is a good option. If your looking for speed or a racing car, it might not be for you unless you consider a abarth. If its such a crappy car, why are they so popular ? The lounge model is not a sport car. Why would anyone expect power from a car that is just for driving from A to B?

    We have a 2017 500 and it really has been a great car. In Mexico City it’s an amazing car, easy to park and maneuver and it has surprisingly enough space on the inside. We’ve fitted a month’s worth of groceries in it and even a small ironing table! It’s a bit dated though however the engine in the city doesn’t need more power.

  • @Cjdergrosse
    @Cjdergrosse 6 лет назад +15

    Remember this is a city car, meant for large metropolitan cities with tight parking, low speed limits, lots of traffic. I've driven one of these and they're perfect for city driving, they're quick-ish off the line, but of course the base engine will be slow, it isnt designed to be used cross country, go get a 500X instead. I think its a great looking car, though the electric is so ugly.

    Ok, for me, being married for 25 years, I must be in another class of dudeness. I love my 2012 Pop model. Bright red, it's a fun car to drive. I bought mine used, so the cost was downright reasonable. On the highway, I'm getting around 42mpg. It ain't a Porsche, but for me, it's a blast to drive. It handles well in any weather conditions, and i live in Indianapolis. I'm hoping that exterior wise, they don't do much of a change. I love the look of this car, and people constantly give me compliments about its looks. The 500 has a Sport Mode button, which gives it a bit more zip. But it does cut down on your mileage. I don't use it much except when getting on the freeway. When the Sport button is engaged, the steering gets a lot tighter, and I don't care for the feel. But overall, it's just a really fun car to drive...

    Hey Soyfan, how do you think this compares to the Honda Fit 6 speed? I obviously know the fit is bigger and probably more reliable but what about highway ride, cornering, shifter/ clutch feel, steering feel, etc.? Im looking into the used market so new car price isnt really a factor

    • @theredline
      @theredline  6 лет назад +1

      Unless you want something different and really love the looks of the Fiat, get the Fit. It's cheaper, more reliable, more practical, and more fun to drive. We found the Fit and Fiat to have similar ride qualities but the Fiat was louder inside and the shifter was less satisfying to use versus the Honda.

And to add a 6th gear in the MT, you'd have to re-do all the ratios and still not have a taller gear for 6th as the car doesn't have the hp to pull a taller gear at higher speeds. I drive 85-90 on the open road, no problem. Ok, I raced cars many years ago. The car is very reliable and a blast to drive.

    We have a 2013 still running strong, cant be beat in city traffic. You may be surprised at how much groceries we can put in the trunk with the seats up. We get between 30 to 33 miles to the gallon with the automatic. I am a straight man I love the car but when I was a kid we lived in Europe, my dad had one. The biggest down fall with the car is resale value, we are planning to keep it for as long as we can. We do have a full sedan for out of town trips. Too bad Fiat pulled out of the U.S. market.

    What's the old saying? "Driving a little car with no power at 100% is more fun than driving a very powerful car at 20%." Perhaps that's what the indulgence is... For a comparison, my best friend's first car (circa 1998) was a 1987 Honda Civic DX sedan with a 5 speed manual. It had a 1.5L 4 cylinder and made 76HP. Last night I saw one tooling around town, albeit lowered with an exhaust kit (much to my chagrain). There is fun to be had in a little car with a stick shift. That 1987 Honda brand new did 0-60 in 12.1 seconds, but was much more fun in the Twisties at 45 mph. I imagine this Fiat (pronounced with a Yacht) will yield a similar nostalgic experience. Thanks for the light-hearted review Sofyan.

    Sofyan, great review like always! I am starting to understand why this car has a place in the market - it is actually quite a lot easier to understand since you are such an honest reviewer. Honestly your opinion is the one I trust the most in this industry..
    I know this is perhaps the wrong video to ask this question.. but we really really love the Buick Regal tourX you just reviewed. As a college student, at what point in it’s depreciation in the following years do you recommend I purchase it. I just know it will drop down to the 15k range eventually, even for the fully loaded trim. I like to work on my cars so reliability issues aren’t a concern.
    Your opinion is very valuable! Thank you and keep up the great content.

    I always love your reviews and even when I don't agree, I have an IS and love it and its better than German cars in that it can outlast the warranty! My last car was a very cool Audi but when the repairs started coming in, ouch! Dont gay/girl shame the Fiat. I lived in Europe and this is a very common car driven by a lot of people. Plus I think we ahve enough of dividing America. The Fiat is cute and I'm sure its not for everybody. Its great in a city for parking in little spaces and garage. No isms!

    The electric version is an awesome car! I believe it's only available in California and Oregon though. It's fast since all the torque is available as soon as you hit the pedal. And because it has all of its batteries on the floor of the car it results in the lower center of gravity which makes it fun to through it around in the corners. I got a great deal for $100/month lease in CA. Thanks Sofyan for doing this review!

    I actually went to look at one of these when they first came out. I took one for a test drive and liked it. So why did I not buy it? When actually entering the car a group of college kids passed by me and basically looked, pointed and laughed at me. That was a dealbreaker for me. 😆

    Hopefully, it's reliability has improved. Lots of clutch problems with the clutch linkage.... and a ton of body fit and finish problems. Door handles break, hatch latches break, and thin paint that easily chips. Perfect city car, especially for street parking.... because it's shorter in length than a Mini Cooper. Needs a backup camera

    21,700 bucks? For this? Straight up theft. Was quoted $21,000 and change for a Hyundai Elantra Sport. The build quality, fit and finish, infotainment, safety and power (turbo charged 200hp and torque to match) is light-years head of this pile. Oh and that was with the premium package too! (Larger screen, upgraded audio system, sunroof, blindspot monitoring). Good review though. You didn't sugar coat the drawbacks of the car.

      Santiago Luna who cares about resale value anymore. Hyundai has improved to much that it isn’t even relevant to call their resale value poor anymore like in the past. Plus, just any car you buy brand new will depreciate like a rock, no matter what brand. They are just like any other car brand. Better off just to buy used.

    • @stevefranklin8052
      @stevefranklin8052 6 лет назад

    Actually this one is a relatively fast car. 10.5 seconds to 60 is great. 100 horse power not so little concerning the weight of the car. Some full size suv or trucks may have worse power/weight ratio i think.

    My 2019 Toyota 4Runner TRD Pro has the same sized screen. After about 100 miles, the screen was just fine. You can read and see every thing from the driver's seat. So I have nothing to complain about. Most of the time, people just want some thing more instead of learning how to use what they have.
