    After seeing Blade Runner 2049 I couldn't get Hans Zimmer and Ben Wallfisch's amazing score out of my head. Had to meditate on it for a little while and this is the result. Recorded live with a Fender Telecaster using MainStage and Logic plugins and fx.

    If you like this kind of stuff you should listen to the German band Troum. It's basically dark ambient electronic music made with instruments (mostly guitars) connected to all kinds of effects. In fact the Blade Runner track sometimes sounds like them, Hans Zimmer may have heard of them. I mean just listen to this : ruclips.net/video/XxUuhclRnvQ/видео.html and tell me you don't see the similarities. I love both and wouldn't take anything away from Hans, they just both have that monolithic powerful atmospheric feeling. Dreamy but oppressive and incredibly heavy.

      Life&GrowMus hi, thanks! mostly guitar rig and Valhalla’s shimmer reverb. First layer is a guitar rig octaver for deep bass, second is valhalla’s deep blue for the high synth sounds. The looper is MainStage’s loopback plug-in and I have two of those going. I just discovered guitar rig has a looper of its own that I’m going to try and figure out. Fun stuff, right?

      I'm using a mix of guitar rig effects...the really low sound is an octaver, the really high comes from a reverb called Valhalla shimmer. And the rhythm comes from a little rolling 8th note beat I made, held down by a sustain setting. Ha it's quite the rig :)

    Now for the sake of argument I will stop making comparisons between Vangelis and Zimmer. Now, let us compare Zimmer with Zimmer, 2049 OST with Vide Cor Meum (Zimmer an Cassidy). What a difference! The only explanation I have is only an educated guess, that Zimmer simply got lost somewhere between Johansson work for 2049 (there are some tunes on tube, original trailer if I am correct has Johansson work in it) and the legacy of Vangelis. And what a burden Vangelis' legacy proves to be even today! Maybe one day you will find some inspiration in Vide Cor Meum. It's monumental and somehow your cover remembered me of that tune.

    • @AcousticLabs
      @AcousticLabs  6 лет назад

      Ah super cool, I didn't know Johannson's work was in the trailer. I'll have a look for that and definitely check out Vide Cor Meum. And yes, a burden indeed, if I worked on a project with any Vangelis in the temp score I'd be both thrilled and terrified ;) Are you a musician Bogdan? Hope you had a good weekend!
