    It is good that a site exists where I can express my feelings without persecution. I am 61 years old but still am able to look in awe when beauty raises it majesty. In this selection, I can imagine the Trumpets of Gabriel ushering in the new age. The Blade Runner saga deals with the preciousness of life in whatever form. Human compassion is a dying virtue being replaced by cynicism and shallow platitudes without concern for the future. Let the negative comments begin.

I love Williams, Shore, Morricone and others, but Zimmer is without a doubt my favorite film composer of all time. I mean his track record is incredible. Gladiator, Dune, Man of Steel, Wonder Woman 1984, Batman v. Superman, the Dark Knight Trilogy, Inception, Interstellar, Dune: Part Two, Blade Runner 2049, Rain Man, Driving Miss Daisy, The Da Vinci Code, Angels and Demons (160 BPM is my favorite Zimmer track ever!), Kung Fu Panda, No Time To Die, The Last Samurai...the list goes on and on.

      ROOTSCONTRA well a lot of people would say the music of this movie creates exactly the right atmosphere: this song for instance (to me at least) feels simultaneously joyful but with a sense of longing. This fits the moment it was made for, with K and Joi taking a drive together for the first time, enjoying each other’s company with a polluted, dystopian world all around them.
      Maybe this style of music is not to your taste, but to say it ruins the movie and breaks the atmosphere is a bit far I think. Though the setting is dark, I don’t think the story itself is particularly dark (it’s more of a love story and a “being human” movie than a dark gritty sci fi epic) and the music enhances the story and setting in the right places for me. This song is more about enhancing the mood and emotion of the scene (finding momentary happiness in a dark place) than about adding to the gritty setting.

    The original Blade Runner was and is my favourite movie of all time. Would have been ten when I first saw it and was utterly captivated by Ridley Scott's interpretation of a dystopian future that was so simultaneously other worldly but at the same time eerily familiar. The music of Vangelis was the a masterpiece within a masterpiece. I was extremely divided when 2049 was announced. I wanted to see more of this amazing universe but at the same time was troubled that it would disappoint me. The wave of relief and joy when I watched 2049 for the first time was palpable. I thought "surely the soundtrack cannot approach the mastery of Vangelis" , how wrong I was, it was awe inspiring. I am sure Vangelis happily shared the limelight with Zimmermann in bringing another layer of genius to a world they brought to life with their artistry.

    Greatest sequel ever. I thought they were gonna eff it up, but Gossling was brilliant, Villeneuve crushed it and the movie 110% deserved ever major Oscar. The acting was God tier, the direction was masterful, the cinematography absolutely EPIC, music was evocative, the ladies played their roles to perfection without any “woke feminist BS” poisoning their efforts. I saw it with 2 friends, and after the movie we all stood in the foyer of the theatre with stunned looks on our faces……..not sure of what to say. It was as if the greatness of this masterpiece was beyond our ability to comment afterwards. I think I uttered: “that was an all out ASSAULT on the senses”, and my friends simply agreed. The original has so many iconic scenes, and so does this one. The Transition scene from K in the lab to the water falling over the sea wall, the scene with his sister at Steline, The fight with Joy, the final scene…..so many great moments. WOW!!!! What a movie. Absolutely GOD TEIR. Please Lord, let Villeneuve direct the third one.

    Very few soundtracks have this amount of emotion creating subliminal power. When I’m in my dark place, this is one of my go to places to blank out the pain and float out of my conscience mind. Aside from the soundtrack, this is a masterpiece of a film in so many ways. The story, how it was portrayed, the overall impact, and the characters/actors cast were perfect. Way ahead of it’s time (hard to believe it was 1982!). I was wrongly sceptical of the second film being likely to honour the original, but I think it did.

    Every ounce of emotion, meaningless to a stone. Every shred of desperation, lost in the wind, like a leaf in a tempest, naught for the forest it is ripped from. Settling on the plains, blown out to sea, entombed in a rocky crevice, as if it never...were. All of us, and none of us, waking to that one musical note, that mote of sunshine....a memory of things to come, dreams of things that never were. Love is the longing for a connection never made, once made, it fades, like the light at the end of the day... soft, purposeful, fading into dusk, then night, and it lasts forever. Open your eyes...keep going. The end is NOT your destination, it is only a resting place. Keep going.

I don't want to sound TOO dramatic here but I have never been so alive as when this scene occurred. I was shaking and helplessly watching as the aircraft flew through the dystopian landscape with Gosling and his girl. Tears where rolling down my cheeks and I was glad the theater was dark for man was I emotional. It was as if that moment between them would mark their most "perfect" and yet just like the music was not to last and would end sadly. BUT the moment that brief shining moment was glorious to behold!

      The problem with that reasoning is that studios will be even further discouraged to make pictures such as Blade Runner 2049. It was never going to break Box Office records but we could have done with this film making money, not bombing.

    • @glst1974
      @glst1974 6 лет назад +9

      I don't agree with the terms bombing on this. It made over 265 million give or take but the outrageous budget and the R rating and long run time and mysterious marketing all hurt the final outcome. This should have done what Interstellar did. I digress as this was still a near perfect film, sound and look, thus their earned Oscar. Hopefully, we might get another, just put better thought to how to do the things missed here. I still cherish this.

    Nothing will ever create a tangible space of feeling that Vangelis does with his Blade Runner score. I was there in 1982 watching, but not quite understanding how enduring this film would be for me in my life. The music. The visuals. Nothing else comes close. So, we get Blade Runner:2049. A film I admire in its own right, but I am amazed on how Hans Zimmer took what Vangelis started and created a few moments in time that will be with me for all time...like tears in the rain. We are one.

    This movie deserved better than it did. It was probably misunderstood by a lot of critics. Remember, the critics savaged Blade Runner as well when it came out but it became more and more popular over the years. The same will happen to this as well. I did my bit to support the film. Saw it 7 times when it came out mostly because the music just blew me away. Especially the haunting track Mesa and Flight To LAPD where Joe's headed to the markets and meets the hookers. I bought on 4K when it was released and have watched it a further 5-6 times. One thing I'm grateful for this film is that it introduced the absolutely gorgeous Ana Des Armas who played Joi. Those lips and those eyes!!!!! What I'd give to swap places with Ben Affleck for just one night!!! If interactive holograms like Joi become a reality I'll definitely be down for one. As long as it looks like Joi and sounds like Joi. Loved Ana in Knives Out and looking forward to seeing her in a couple of months in the new James Bond flick, No Time To Die. Especially looking forward to see how she does as Marilyn Monroe in her upcoming film in 2021, Blonde.

    In my opinion the greatest moment of this amazing film is when we catch a glimpse of what is presumably a ship destined for the off world colonies. The imagery has so much weight, after both films place such emphasis on both the promise and the danger of the off world colonies. I create almost an entire other film in my mind on seeing that ship. Then after just that glimpse it disappears, out of reach for ever more. Epic...

    This is one of my favorite songs off the soundtrack but also the shortest. Thanks for extending it!
    Btw, I don't think it was an accident that it was the shortest track. Mesa stands out for the soothing, dreamy sound you get to enjoy briefly before the darkness roles back in. Possibly the only moment in the film when K is content or happy. Then he is knocked back into reality.

    • @Absolynth
      @Absolynth  6 лет назад +1

      It's a perfect length in the film for sure. I'm glad most of the soundtrack was something new and unique though, while Mesa serves more as a Vangelis tribute in a way with it's retrosynth aesthetic.

      DuesX I agree, Vangelis's score on the 1st BR is one of my all-time favorite soundtracks, but the same sound wouldn't have worked on 2049. The subtle hints of the Vangelis sound was great on the sequel, it was necessary really, but it would have been completely out of place in 2049. Back in '82 Scott was introducing audiences to a new world, something never seen before so the music had a certain innocence to it. It was awe inspiring and entralling. 2049 was loud and aggressive. It was like, this is reality, things are fxcked up, you need to deal with it.
