I just built a hackintosh using Opencore. $300 with a i3 10100, and only 8 gigs of ram. I am using the i3s integrated graphics. I didn't want to invest a lot of money in it in case it didn't work. It took me days of working with it and I successfully installed Catalina. I then successfully upgraded to Big Sur within Mac Os itself without any issues
This is not an easy endeavor. It takes time and a lot of patience.

When I was 12 or 13, I built an AMD based osx86/hackintosh (A Phenom of some sort), I had a broken collarbone.. so the build itself took me a whole day. Took me probably 3 or so days to iron out all of the Kext issues.. but finally had a full functional QE/CI supported AMD based system.
Why'd I do all this? GarageBand... and the sick screensaver.

what I would do is borrow your friend's Mac again and use this program called OC X, which can be used to generate a basic vanilla OpenCore EFI folder based on your computer's architecture. That's how I got it to work on my system after a number of fruitless attempts to get OpenCore working initially, then working with another program called OpenCore Configurator to further tweeze the config.plist, using the Dortania guide alongside it to make the necessary adjustments. I'd love to do as the developers of OpenCore would want me to use a text editor and the guide to configure it, but I don't have the necessary smarts to wrap my head around that.
Also, try a couple of different Mac IDs in the config.plist . I settled on iMacPro1,1 as my final configuration, as it unlocked a number of features on the RX570 card I use in my system, and has proven to be super stable.
You might also want to get in touch with several of the Hackintosh RUclips community for advice - Peter Paul Chato, Morganaut and Snazzy Labs have all built Hacs and have given good advice that I found useful.

    i5 8600k (5 dollars)
    16gb Ram (69.99 dollars)
    asRock Motherboard (50 dollars)
AMD R9 Fury (90 dollars) (*was bought before mining crisis)
    256gb NVME Drive (5 dollars)
It runs really smooth. I can edit Final Cut Pro and even alot of games on it. I'm currently daily driving along with dual booting windows 10 for bitcoin mining and gaming since windows still has the most support for games and my WMR headset.

i feel your pain, I tried to build a hackintosh about 6 months ago, i finally did it and it worked OK but it took a while before I could get it going with the correct audio and video drivers (KEXTS) however some weeks later I picked up a late 2013 21.5 inch i5 imac cheap, i upgraded the ram to 16GB and hard drive from 5400 RPM HD to a 480GB SSD and wow I realised that it just works no messing about (apart from using a hair dryer to remove the screen) - Personally I will not be wasting any more of my time building a hackentosh.

I got a few recommendations. Start by converting a HP EliteDesk or Dell Optiplex into a hackintosh. There are many good guides to follow. Next try to convert a custom PC with a more traditional motherboard vendor such as MSI/Gigabyte. Now use the information that you have learned and replace that garbage chinese X99 motherboard with a normal X99 motherboard. You can mod a X99 board to use a xeon CPU.
I've built roughly two handfulls of custom desktop hackintoshes. Countless business laptops/desktops.
My oldest Hackintosh is nearing 5 years without hiccups. Went from Yosemite to High Sierra.

I love a lot of the small touches and nuances of Mac OS, but everything you've been through, and what I've read about Hackintoshes, it's just not worth the trouble. The Mac Pro can so easily be outclassed with custom PC parts, but you're better off getting a cheaper Mac Mini at this point!

Good video! Just have a few questions/suggestions as someone who has. Hackintoshed a Laptop and my main Pc.
    1. Did you try installing macos on another computer and transferring the drive?
    2. Did you check the installer log? Usually that can give you more info
    3. The hackintosh community has a great discord server. Look it up.
    4. Did you figure out what in the Config plist fixed the boot issue? Did you reset everything else?
    5. Id think the aliexpress motherboard is to blame here. Apple is picky about hardware so it’s best to stick with known brands for everything!

I bought a trash can last spring with my stimmy money because it is a cool and unique design. The 2010-2012 mac pro 5,1 cheesegrater is actually a better machine (I own one as well) and can be found on ebay for half the price and twice as many cores in most cases. The only drawback of the 5,1 is it does not support the latest Mac OS. I gave the trash can to my GF for her graphic design station since she uses Mac OS for her job.

  • @chriscalderon1337
    @chriscalderon1337 3 года назад

I think the best thing about the trash can Mac Pro is the form factor. You can have a 12 core machine in a very quiet and small package. I currently use a 2018 Mac mini for running a few servers and VMs and I'm actually thinking about getting the trash can Mac Pro to replace it. More cores means I can run more servers and ECC RAM means peace of mind. Plus it will fit on my desk in the same spot as my Mac mini.

But, I’m sure most of your subscribers here use and prefer Windows 10 (I know that is quite an assumption, so I could be wrong...and I don’t mind being corrected or being wrong).
There’s an alternate take on an old saying: If at first you don’t succeed.......destroy all evidence that you even tried! No, we should keep to the persistent attitude of the original and try and try again. It’s the best approach! 😁

If you have a little bit of money you can do a 10th gen i7 or i9 on the new z590i vision d and a vision d rtx 3000 gpu, with a set of designare 2x32gb ram, a small white or silver cooler or aio, and a nice white or silver itx case, maybe the nr200. Have a gen4 nvme in each slot to have a dual boot system, Mac on intel graphics, and windows on rtx. Those components together would make a beautiful Mac mini looking build. Such a bummer you can’t run MacOS on nvidia. If you could find a 5700xt that matches the aesthetic or a Radeon vii for less than 3000 bucks that would also work. A deshrouded 5700xt asus strix modded white would also work. A build like this would be insanely beautiful. And it would have 2 thunderbolt 4 connectors on the back. In an itx build. 2. I want it so bad. And I don’t even like intel.

Bro just install Linux, then run a VM of MacOS through it, if you literally dedicate all your hardware the right way and config it correctly, you can run MacOS at 99% of full speed, no issues or problems. Best of all you can get updates and literally everything works as intended. SomeOrdinaryGamers has a video tutorial and it works with laptops too if you tinker. I find the experience much easier than making a native Hackintosh, but that's just me. Of course, this is a VM, so yeah you're not getting the native experience, but it's pretty much the same if you ask me. Even GPUs work just fine too.

That's nuts dood! The trash can was actually pretty decent performance-wise. Once the used prices drop around $700-$800, it will be worth it.

You have a friendly advice, never set up on scratch. Macos you will install No matter which version is a Macintosh or Make Virtual Setup on Hackintosh. Clone on the USB Harddisk when the installation is successful. Don't forget to install bootloader before starting on the machine you want. Just deal with bootloader, don't mess with the installation.

This is nice but people choose Mac for specific reasons. Thunderbolt is going to be one of those reasons. You would need to factor in a motherboard with support for either thunderbolt 2 or usb 3.2 gen 2 to match the speed, or an add in card with those ports in mind. That would increase the price of your build a bit. And your best bet would be to go with an hp prebuilt because they already have support for thunderbolt baked in on some models. If you found one with tb3 support that would be even better value. So I think you failed this challenge in that area. You need to be able to boot the system, have access to as many functions as possible, and use all peripherals the same. I can’t wait till amd finally adds usb4 to their stuff.

Since this was Trashcan Macintosh alternative, if it was built on the NZXT H1 Mini-ITX case it would be extra epic. Of course it would be more expensive and the airflow wouldn't be as good. But it was closer to a Trashcan Hackintosh.
And I have the NZXT H500 case for my current build. They are such beautiful cases.

Stick with catalina cus big sur is new and need a lot of workaround. I’ve tried installing big sur before and gave up. The config.plist might need some more work i guess. I recommend getting the part listed in tonymacx86 instead of random Chinese mysteries branded part it makes life a lot easier.

i think if you try 1 more time it works, because i've installed catalina many times on my REAL macbook, and I get the same error message everytime, but i just retry 1 more time and it works sooo might be worth trying

My first hackintosh took my about that long too and I swear I had to reboot that freaking machine like 200 times! 😂 Now a days I usually see if someone else has gotten all the opencore stuff to work with my motherboard first and just tweak their EFI.

I did a Hackintosh on a hp laptop. It took me about 20 days 8h per day (literally, on quarantine) to do it works properly, but was a decent hackintosh for 200€. Is difficult, but if you like computers... Is an option xd

Bro, basically the same happened to me- this trial and error sucked so much energy from me that after I gave it up... I completely suppressed any memories of it. So after a few years I was trying to reuse a few hd's I used for that.. Which booted up weirdly and had a unix system on it and I forgot why xD then I remembered after a few days...

I was kicking around the idea of doing a Hackintosh. You have successfully persuaded me not to attempt this--not because I don't think I am capable of pulling it off, but because the aggravation just doesn't seem worth it. I'm a pretty patient guy, but I think I would have called it quits after 2 days (3, max). Thanks for taking the hit. I hope you are able to see it through.

No thunderbolt, probly one of main main main selling points of the trash can Mac, and the size, if i remeber right it has 4 or 6 of them, and also if you have one you cN just use an external gpu, also upgrade with a 12 core xeon 269X v2, or maybe even 6- 8 core 26XX something v2 for even less money, and have a good machine, yes the cost, but again, it all comes down to what you need, if you dont need mac os or thunderbolt 2, or of course the size doesnt matter, youre golden with a build like this.

i love pc and always have been building for years. but the new m1x imac may be my next purchase. i'm not selling my pc cause i use it still for gaming. but the upcoming imac value is too good if it ships with 5k display and performance faster than what i can build on pc for 3x the price. arm optimisation is real. a lead that i don't think windows can catch up even in a decade

of the multiple hackintosh'es I have built the x99 chipset was the most challenging. did not work until i extracted the ssdt motherboard info (using live linux) you must create an ssdt and perhaps also a dsdt and these files need to be in the bootloader (i used clover) but OC probably has similar function.
