I wouldn't waste money on delidded CPUs , just grab a matched pair on ebay. You don't need to delid them for the stock coolers. You do need to watch voltages though as the X5690 is a 130w chip, unlike 90w that apple shipped stock. Yo dont listen to these fools even though a pc is old doesnt mean that its bad im gaming on a xeon x5460 , over 10yrs old cpu and ddr2 ram ofc i got a new gpu but i dont need a new pc i can play whatever i want
Dude you should have asked the Low End Mac community for advice. I have the exact same machine, a 2010 Mac Pro. I upgraded mine from 2.4GHz 8 core to 3.46GHz 12 core. Installed 96GB of 1333MHz DDR3 ECC memory. You really only want to use 6 DIMMs with this model, because the CPUs only support triple channel memory configs. If you use all 8 slots then your memory has worse performance. I also added a Radeon Pro WX 7100 GPU, basically the workstation equivalent of the RX 580. It's single slot, single 6 pin power required. With the latest EFI firmware update, you can even boot off NVMe! So I have an NVMe card in mine with a Samsung 960 Pro boot drive. My NVMe card has room for 4 NVMe drives. I also added a USB 3.0 card and a 10GBe card, both from Sonnet Tech. Last, all my hard drive bays are filled with 14TB Seagate Iron Wolf Pros in RAID10, which I use for network time machine backups. My Geekbench multicore score is 26810.
Other thoughts. If you really want to make it a crazy upgrade, you can even replace the wifi and bluetooth cards to enable hand off and Wireless AC. You could also do something called the Pixlas mod, which add extra PCIe power cables so you could install a Vega 64 card. Now THAT would be sick.

matt is like the lite version of Anthony on LTT. Infinitely useful, limited praise.
Look at how camera shy jimmy is, that was the most unenthusiastic “it’s me!” Ever
A Ryzen 2700 (non K) scores 26K multicore as a reference.
You mean non x
