I started back in 82 , I had a freightliner cab over with a cat motor and 13 speed, back then the roads were much better than they're today, so would I want to drive this baby today, no not until they fix the crumbling highways cause these cab covers can ride rough and they will beat your body up.
Started in '85 with a brand-new but bog standard 9670 International COE. Wouldn't want a cabover unless it had the stand-up sleeper. Once you experienced the roominess of a Volvo 760 VNL, why would you want to go back to anything smaller??
Old school USA driver here... Wow. K/W should test market this in the States. Longer frame, double wide bunk, air ride steer axle... I would test drive it all over the USA for ya's if you want. Beautiful truck. Can't imagine it not being a top seller. The long hoods are sweet, but... sorta long in the tooth too. Need long wheelbase cabovers like this to mix up big truck varieties. This new model has to be as areodynamic as a Freightliner, or any USA areo conventional, imo. USA's modern truck drivers have no clue about cabovers since they have been gone for so long. I always liked them!! Aussie drivers be lucky for having these to drive!!
Yes,good idea! The long hooded trucks is idiot solution...Totális surplus plus 2 meter, other wrong solution is surplus extended frame in USA....This solution for heavy moments in parking, loading, turning and city traffic..The conventional bulit is pretty, but is very bad solution for transport..Cabover trucks is very-very good, easy solution..
@@zsoltlukacs8438 Starting to see more and more short new short hood KW's on the road lately. I think drivers are getting sick of the turning radius of the long hoods
Having a long wheelbase defeats the purpose of having a cabover. Cabovers are used to make trucks more compact, thus improving maneuverability in tight spaces. If you're just gonna stretch the frame (something which I don't understand the purpose of regardless), then you might as well have bought a conventional truck. My two cents.
Out of all our Aussie built Kenworth models here in Melbourne, nothing beats the toughest looking truck on our highways, the K series! Kenworth is the truck of choice for most Aussie operators and I believe Australia is the only place that still builds the Cab Over K series and we do export them to other right hand drive countries as in New Zealand, nothing looks better when you see a Kenworth prime mover hooded or Cab Over pulling a 46 wheel triple road train, these Kenworths are made for Australia and built by Australians to Australian specifications, it looks like most of our American friends would like to see the Cab Over K being sold back in the USA and agree but at least all of you know that these great trucks are still being built and appreciated here in Australia! I doubt that, the truck manufacturers would building cab overs in the States if there was a market for them, but there is not. When the length laws were loosened in the early 1980s, conventionals took over and most truck dealers wouldn't take a COE in on trade. Alot of them were used to power glider kits and ended up out in the weeds
@@russvoigt1068 Exactly. I don't know why anybody would want a cabover in the US anymore. They aren't necessary here because of our regulations. Conventional trucks are so much more comfortable, ride so much nicer, and are much safer than cabovers.
I don't understand why don't United States have cabovers that is so cool they take up less room I think they'd be less weight but that would just be so cool to see cabovers again don't understand why
To many workman comp claims. Drivers falling off while climbing out plus lots of back injuries. Most drivers whant an engine in front of them in case of an accident.
@dave Gross vehicle lenght is not really an issue in the States. So they can make their trucks almost as long as they want. I think another issue is the daily checks that US drivers have to perform. Many times they have to check the engines and other "internal organs" on leakage and spillage of oil or other fluids. This is much easier on a conventional than on a Cabover. The hood weigths less and also you don't need to do a lot of work inside your cabine to prevent your personal belongings fly through the interior while tilting. You don't want a bottle or whatever crash your windscreen.
O-H-I-O Porter greetings.🇺🇸 I was about 5 years old when my dad bought a new K100. I was in love with that truck & managed to find a way to climb into it & take a nap in the bunk. I cried when I heard that the truck had caught fire & burned down to the rails & even more when I got to see it! 😢 That was one sad day! I still love cabovers & actually own one…Cabovers Rule! This K220 is rather sharp! 🤩 I know that you either love them or hate them. Many USA drivers feels that way. I wish you made cabover KWs in the USA so that we wouldn’t lose that part of the trucking history. You might be surprised if you did!😳 It would be nice to see a walk around of it as well. 🥰🤩✌️
Australia has overall heavy vehicle length laws despite our Roadtrains. Our B Double (SuperB) units are designed & designated for certain routes & weights that a conventional truck can't match up with legally. These laws are one reason why the European Cabovers have a huge market share, as does the Freightliner Argosy & the Kw K100/220 cabovers in certain fleets.
@@shanemay3797 Many States here in the western US permit for for B double and A double multi axle Combinations, Where I live you can have up to 2 48ft tralers together, If the Dolly is short enough , there are certain bridge laws and axle spacing laws that you have to adhere to but generally the most popular combination is a 40 to 48 foot main trailer and a 15 foot drawbar tandem axle dolly and a 28' pup trailer. Then we have A triples of 28 footers.. I think the Maximum total length allowed is something like a 127 feet.. I'm not really sure but most conventional tractors fall within the length laws for pulling doubles and triples. And States like Michigan they have things like 26 axle A and B double combinations...
I agree totally, my first truck in the u.s was a k 210 kenworth(the day cab) used it around Seattle in the 90's and it was great, where I learned trucking, now days I use later model cascadia but it doesn't have that extra room for backing into tight spots like my old cabover, and the new Australian versions look nice too!

This is one of the most beautiful trucks ever built! Had a kw new in 1988 like this turn them on a dime.
I didn’t know KW still makes a cabover. They should bring this to the US. They’d sell thousands of them.
KW, Freightliner, and International are making cabovers in Australia
I doubt that, the truck manufacturers would building cab overs in the States if there was a market for them, but there is not. When the length laws were loosened in the early 1980s, conventionals took over and most truck dealers wouldn't take a COE in on trade. Alot of them were used to power glider kits and ended up out in the weeds
Since even Volvo, great cabover maker, doesn't sell cabovers in the US, it shows they know it wouldn't sell well
Even Ford sells the F-Maxx cabover in Europe
@@russvoigt1068 Exactly. I don't know why anybody would want a cabover in the US anymore. They aren't necessary here because of our regulations. Conventional trucks are so much more comfortable, ride so much nicer, and are much safer than cabovers.
Great to see you Jonathan Crawford, reminds me of grandfather Jim and Then Michael. Of course the KW Cabovers are the best.
This looks awesome 🤩 hello from Russia!
That is an awesome looking truck.
Love cab overs. I agree, need to start making in US again.👍🏻
Great to see the exhaust smoke stack visible.
@dave
Gross vehicle lenght is not really an issue in the States.
The drivers are to fat to get in a cab over.
Function over form.
Do Kenworth do a proper Automatic truck. So you can just in and drive tho ???
I would love to own a new COE here in the states. Let's disregard what the insurance companies want and focus on who's purchasing the units!
Aero dynamics, fuel efficiency, strong
Looks a nice truck would love to drive one👍
Good to see they kept it lookin like a real KW💪 wicked cool
Why does Kenworth not offer something like this in the USA?
Australia has overall heavy vehicle length laws despite our Roadtrains.
Our B Double (SuperB) units are designed & designated for certain routes & weights that a conventional truck can't match up with legally.
These laws are one reason why the European Cabovers have a huge market share, as does the Freightliner Argosy & the Kw K100/220 cabovers in certain fleets.
@@shanemay3797 Same reason cabovers became popular in the 1970-1990 in the US. Many states overall length laws only would work with cabovers.
Because there is no demand for it
Man what a beautiful truck.🙂🙂
Needed for sale in USA
Bring it to the USA baby and also bring back glider kits
And yet still not in the USA ! I've been in them old K100s and wow a big difference in the k220
Beautiful colour. Truck looks awesome.
I agree, they need to make this truck in the United States. I love cab overs
Hermoso camión saludos desde chignahuapan Puebla México
bring these back to the USA please $$$
I agree totally, my first truck in the u.s was a k 210 kenworth(the day cab) used it around Seattle in the 90's and it was great, where I learned trucking, now days I use later model cascadia but it doesn't have that extra room for backing into tight spots like my old cabover, and the new Australian versions look nice too!
How do one order one in the states !
You don't!!
Sucks to be in North America, doesn't it 😕 on so many ways, politics, Healthcare and social living standards, gun controls.
Cheers from Australia 🇦🇺 👍 😀 👌
@@shanemay3797 we still have them in America just older models from the 1970s and 80s still on the roads .
Even with all the stupid politics America is still the place everyone around the world want to be ..
😂
Man great looking truck love a cab over was one of the first truck's I drove
With the US market taking on a particular liking to the Can over design that once were. It strikes me as odd that the US bases kenworth manufacturers haven’t explored this aspect of the market.
Because a lot of American drivers have small dick syndrome. They wont drive them they like their big hoods
They might not see a big enough market for it, in a place where long hoods is the holy grale. But who knows, maybe one day
@@Rimrock300 exactly, unless they bring back the size regulation (the reason why cab overs were a thing back then) the conventional design is too popular in America and the COE trucks would flop too fast in the market.
And I love the COE trucks.
any for the yanks?
No. They don’t let us have cool trucks anymore. 😢
I think a six way swivel seat would be a very nice feature.
What a BEAUTIFUL truck- should be offered in AMERICA as well!!!
Sell them in the U.S. old school looks good 👍.
What a beauty.
Man bring these to the USA .. why did we ever stop making them
The overall length law for tractor and trailer went away, length limit was put on the length of trailer, ie 53'...
So, the stretched out hoods got popular.
@@catdaddy3728 Looks like people don't remember cabovers were tough on the backbone... They surely are better today but else than being more manoeuvrable I don,t see why I would have to climb the side of this truck instead of stepping on some steps to get into the cab.
@@robertpoudrette4483 Well I have driven quite a few miles in different make c/o's. Transtars, Fords, Freightliners and a double wide Pete... some were spring ride others air ride, I never minded or really thought about climbing up in one. The ones I was in rode good.
I liked them, but hey... everybody is different.
@@catdaddy3728 good point, to each his own. It is a good looking truck though.
What kind of engine that’s got in it
And why they didn’t talk about the engine such as the brand, hp, and the model number of the engine
Queria ver essa maravilhas rodando aqui no Brasil.
Продавщица Кенвортов снималась в сериале " Рассказ Служанки" в главной роли!
Imagine if they built a truck with the same capabilities as a dealer lap top to scan everything and anything.
Please make this new Kenworth available for the North American market!!! We need a modern Cabover, Freightliner was offering the outdated Argosy, that was poorly built as well! If Kenworth made this truck available for the American market, no doubt it would sell quite well!
Cool to see a cab over as a new model!
Hermosa Kenworth felicitaciones y ese color ufff, todo un juguete❤️
I would trade my 2018 freightliner in a heartbeat for this kw220... Please make this in the United States...
Pissed we’re not getting these in Canada 🇨🇦
That Truck is going to Collins br Adelaide cheer
That color is amazing
Can we have these here in the States, please? They'd be perfect for inner-city local work.
Is it a renovation object from the 70s? Looks good.
It’s strange they build them for the Australian market I thought there was all kinds of room over there! But nice product!
length of rig includes the prime mover in Aust
It's mainly inner-city where the laws become an issue
Will it be available in the states
WE 🇺🇲 want cabovers back in production again. Kenworth is an American Company and they originated here in the U.S.
Muscle Cars came back !!
O Brasil precisa de um Caminhão assim!
Just remember folks , thr way these drivers operate today tailgating. Your legs are the first thing on the scene. Every bump in the road goes right up your backbone. Pulling your self in the cab . Dr's love every minute of it. Why do you think we all went to conventionals. I owned a lot of KW K100E'S . (Not this old hand of 54 yes on the road) Run From Them Not To Them !
Huge differrnce Eurioean Cabovers arw like driving a SUV
Why do we not see cab overs in the USA anymore??
Fun Fact: Everyone watching this video wishes they would make a North American version!
Nah thats only you Americans watching this and wishing, they are everywhere here in New Zealand.
I drove K 100’s for 30 years. Be careful what you ask for. I get the nostalgia, but winters are harsh in Canada.
Nice truck with a lot of goodies inside of it.
Too bad the gov't regs wont let new cabovers built in the USA or even sold for that matter.
The current laws have to be changed for new trucks like this roam the roads of the USA
But have been seeing a lot of older cabovers on the roads lately
can you explain????
Yes we need these KW back in the states
except you put the steering wheel on the wrong side. lol.
Right hand drive was the original driving position.
Love this truck. Awesome design improvements. Please talk KW into returning this idea to the USA.
KW pay attention to the truck drivers, build it in Australia, and offer it here in US and Canada. Again IT WILL SELL in North America.
But you Yanks would extend the chassis and ruin the Aerodynamic benefit from Australian experience of gaining the MPG from close in Trailers. 😞
The US Auto workers unions would have a shit fit over Australian made vehicles on Nth American roads, just look at the 2000 on Pontiacs Coupes & Chevy SS Sedans( go buy one ASAP, YOU WILL LOVE IT) as well as the Mercury roadster of the late 1990's
Plus Australia has overall length laws, despite our Roadtrains and Super B sets.
@@shanemay3797 you might be right, some would extend them.. I would not because I pull doubles for pepsi as an owner operator with an 285 inch 379 peterbilt.
How many late model Freightliner Argosy's do you see going up and down the roads these days?
I’d kill for one of these in the states!
Wish it was available in the states.
When will this trk be available in the United States
Is it possible to get one shipped to the US?
Sure just convert to the System Universal (metric base 10/Meters/Liters) submit back to the British Crown and Right-hand drive, tighten up gun control massively to get rid of school yard terrorism from the mentally deranged ( most NRA members will have a shit fit on that issue as will most likely of all you Yanks. Yes the rest of the world thinks that you Yanks are insane - Trump is a prime example of Traitorous & Treasonous behaviours).
Oh and Universal non avoidance of taxation for a Universal Healthcare system as a benefit too ( It's not just about a communist agenda, just a matter of basic human rights and social responsibility for all.).
Better base federal minimum wage rates (needs to at least increase 2x/3× times)
I'd love to leave Australia for North America under those circumstances to do the Grain Harvesting crew seasons. It would give me a chance to go train watching and buy N Scale model trains on a Harley Davidson Street Glide.
Excelente video!
Hermoso camión!
