I love how your videos are loaded with contents. I love how you show pictures from the lens instead of talking about them with no context to the viewers. Great video.
This is a great video for anyone looking to start building a lens lineup in the Fuji system. I just ordered my first Fuji (x-t2) and this video was a major help in choosing which direction to go for my first couple lenses. I’ve referred back to this video multiple times at this point. It’s undeniable! Great video and great photos!
Plain and simple the only Fuji lens review video you need to watch. Awesome review guys 👍
While I agree with you in principle, I've watched a LOT of Fuji lens reviews (as I'm guessing @City Street has). This is one where I think he does a really credible job in expressing his own preferences and biases, while not allowing that to prevent him from recommending the right lens for the right job. Obviously, everyone will have preferences - but he gets his preferences across while still managing to summarize the capabilities of each lens perfectly. Thank you Denae & Andrew!
I like the fact that his experience saves me a lot of money and I don't feel like he's trying to sell anything like so many other youtubers who seem to be pushing affiliate links.
@@shepbostin, very well said!.. ♥
I don't know how you do it man, but you are definitely one of the best photographer I've ever seen.
It's nice to hear a lens review from a photographer that actually takes great photos.
Thanks Albert!
I disagree with megaweasel. I actually really kinda dig the moodier processing and lighting. Your narration is always second to none. The flow of your videos, mixing images and video, is always perfect. The images are stunning as usual. I love your perspective and methodology!
I love the strong contrast that you seem to achieve with both your stills and video, I have an X-T2 and a 27mm f2.8 plus a manual 50mm f1.9 Cosina lens and would love to get that strong contrast for both colour and B&W
X pro 2 user shooting with the 23mm F/2.0. Shoot mostly street and bars/concerts. After watching this I think the 16mm F14 is the way I want to go. Low light, fast, and wide is something I think I'll be using! Thank you for the video and have a great day!
Big love to you guys Denae & Andrew, always providing an honest, practical and sincere content. We are so fortunate to have you in the Fuji fraternity. You, Denae and your family rock, bring back Denae to the channel. She's the Ying to your Yang, #Londonlovesyou
I can't tell you how much I appreciate your presentation, approach and content. This is my favorite channel, hands down. Thank you!
Wow. Thanks Richard! We are honored
The aesthetics of your photos make your recommendations unquestionable 😂.
Well done. You left out my travel and architecture lens favorite, the 10-24. It mostly gets shot at 24mm, which is my preferred street photography FOV (the Swiss Army knife FOV for me),. But it also covers the 16mm FOV, and while it's not a prime, 16mm gets used a lot, too. Finally, for shooting indoors (like in Buddhist temples or churches or other public building), going wide, down to 12mm, is very useful. The lens has OIS, which makes up for the fact it only goes down to f/4. The 10-24 covers classic street, 16mm wide angle, and architecture and indoor work. Thanks again. Fits well in a travel bag along with the 23mm f/2, and I'm good to go on the road.
Agreed. I use the 10-24/4 a lot doing street and architecture work. Having the IS is great for when I want to drag the shutter and still hand hold at say ... 1/2 sec. Or go extra wide for when its needed, or go to the classic 35mm focal length for street work. It's an excellent general use, walk around lens.
If it helps anyone ... my trip to Montreal City in Quebec, Ontario was almost all 10-24/4 lens. LINK -> adamwoodhouse.info/montreal-city-fuji-xt2-fuji-10-24f4/
I watch plenty of RUclips photography educators. Probably subscribed to 10 or more channels. Most of them review lenses and cameras and if they show you anything it’s snaps they have taken with them. You’re the first that shows beautiful photography with great presentation. Well done!!
I’ve yet to peruse the rest of your videos but I’d love to see more of your work.
Any chance of making a vid of some of your personal favourites? Maybe a series... with each lens. Narrate over the pics?? Just an idea.
18-55 is really underrated lens. Great value for money and produce stunning result
I was thinking of that or 18mm f2. But the size though...I prefer smaller lens.
It does but you have to know how to use it. Otherwise you end up with lots of soft images.
@@1977swampy Ok tell me more, mine is soft
@@SuperDigitalMe you have to select the smallest focus point to start with, make sure your appeture is correct and don't go below 1/125 handheld.
Is it stabilized?
For me 16-55mm 2.8 with X-H1, a match made in heaven. IBIS in the camera. Images are sublime. No need to get the 16mm 1.4. If I had to get just one lens, it would be the 16-55 2.8.
The second lens I have is the 50-140 mm 2.8.
Andrew, love your content. I’m a recent Fuji convert. I switched from Sony because I wasn’t feeling the art with their system. I wanted you to know that your content has helped me to make lens and body choices. Your work is inspiring, keep up the great work.
Glad to hear you've found it helpful David. Wish you all the best.
I'm impressed by the fact that you have 5 kids and you own all those lenses :P I like how you associated the lenses with the genres, very useful.
For some reason, I've drifted to 50mm+ focal range for my kid/daily shooting. Watching this video helped me realize that I've been missing important context, and I started shooting more at 18mm. I know that wasn't the point of the video, but I wanted to say thanks for an excellent reminder of the importance of capturing scenes at a shorter focal length.
It was as much about focal length as it was about these specific lenses. I'm happy to hear it helped!
what a fantastic video for real, i've been searching for hours for a good video that tells which fuji lens are good for every type of photography and here we are!Thank u and congratulations for the good job.
This is enlightening. Thanks for breaking it down with all the different lenses Fuji has to offer along with the genres.
More than anyone could expect here...highly actionable info.Thank you! Your images are worthy!
High five on the Dad/Family photography timestamp. I was debating which wide angle to get, but now I'm sold on the 16mm 1.4. This dad appreciates this video!
If happiness could be wrapped up in lens form, it would take the form of the 16mm 1.4. :)
Love the subtle obsession with the 16mm!! We just invested in an X-T2, and shoot with the 35 f2. Anything Fuji seems to work wonders. Again, a very easy watch, keep up the great stuff guys :)
Haha. "Subtle" ;)
There wasn't a single picture i didn't like, lol. Amazing photos!
Aw. Thank you :)
I'll add to this - I came just looking for lens recs, but the photos were incredible. Also love the edits, would love to know if you work off a preset or if it's all hand tweaked
(I should add, I subbed as a result)
The last days I was watching Reviews about lenses but your pictures are really the most beautiful ! 👍
Your picture is art, does it jpeg out or edit by LightRoom, I am a beginner of photography.
Fantastic, down-to-earth lens reviews. I like the way you did lens groupings by suggested projects, and the fact that you have actually paid for these and built up your opinions over a long period of time. This is a great resource and will help me build my Fuji lens collection intelligently. Currently I have the 18-55, 50-140 & 35 F2 in various combinations for portraits, travel and sports.
Totally agree on the 18-55 choice. Although I love the Fuji primes, this is my go-to lens for casual and holiday photography. Paired with Fuji's amazing film simulations (like Velvia or Acros), you can get great JPEGS straight out of camera without having to carry around a tripod or edit a RAW file on your laptop.
I've been using Sony system & although am still able to do RAW post in Lightroom for iOS, Fujifilm system is fantastic & I really enjoy the moment of post-free when you really to spend more time to enjoy when traveling.
Never miss your gear overview videos. I love your approach: "These are the lenses I use for this occasion. Simple yet effective."
I agree. The 18-55 kit is wonderful.
That 16mm f1.4 is really versatile, swiss army knife in the fuji lineup imho. I toss in the hockey puck (18mm f2) for travel because it's close to it in focal length and very compact.
Thanks for a very honest and logical video, obviously gleaned from actual experience which is a bit rare for a lens review round up. Best of luck with your business.
Best fuji lens review and for so many scenarios. You made me feel very good to keep my 16 I just got!
Got mine 18-55mm with my new X-T30 a month ago, yesterday I bought the 16mm f1.4 on sale. Completely new to photography, but I'm already in love with it, with Fuji family, your videos and of course X-T30 and both lenses
As someone that recently moved back to the States from living in Viet Nam I can say it's a photography paradise. I'd shoot on RAW and convert to JPEG in camera. Also be aware sometimes the locals will want 10.000d or about $.50 to take their picture which IMO is fair. A great place to go are the wet markets at 5am. Also the buddhist pagodas and family temples which look like tiny buddhist pagodas. Ha Noi, Hue and Hoi An are pure eye candy. HCMC is great for city life. Da Nang because IMO it has the best food. =) Da Nang also has Son Tra Mountain with wild monkeys. Go up before dawn if you want to get a picture of them. Tam Cốc about an hour south of Ha Noi might be one of the most scenic and underrated places in the country. Mountains like Ha Long Bay but isn't a total tourist trap. If you can take the train around and avoid motorcycle taxis. The Grab app which is like Uber for Asia will allow you to book a taxi without being able to speak Vietnamese. BTW flights inside the country on Jetstar are dirt cheap.
Pro-tip on finding great street food: go where you see a group of older women eating and being served by the same. The street food there is amazing and safe. Bun bo Hue, banh xeo, banh canh and mi Quang are all very good and fit well with the Western palate. The best time to go are mornings. Also try an avocado smoothie made with sweetened condensed milk and a cà phê sữa đá (iced coffee with sweetened condensed milk). The seafood in Da Nang is excellent. For the best meal of your life check out restaurantnen.com in Da Nang.
Carry your gear in a bag instead of wearing it around your neck to avoid it being stolen. The Lowepro Passport Sling III with the Ape Case Cubeze 37 insert was my choice as it counts as a "personal item" on flights when the back is zipped up and expands when needed. Bring a very light rain jacket with you if your going in autumn. Practice all you can and learn to use the flash on slow sync which will really help your photos. Shoot at -2/3 EV (exposure compensation) to keep from blowing out the highlights. Hope this helps.

@@brian-beeler Thank you for your reply, I only noticed it now. But everything you wrote is true (at least the things I could experience). It was really hot weather, so I often didn't take much time for perfect composition. Sadly I couldn't choose better month for visiting since I still have to go to university. However the country is amazing and will definitely come back for more! Love the motorcycling (for the first time btw) on Cat Ba and Phong Nha!
And one of my favorite photos, from village near Sa Pa: drive.google.com/file/d/1k0XOhNsISqtCoGL6CdLDsRfDcBg9IwlL/view?usp=sharing
I use the 16mm f1.4 a lot more than I thought I would, too. It's a damn fine lens. My most used however is probably the 35mm f1.4, then the 56mm f1.2. For landscape the 16-55mm f2.8 rules the roost along with the 50-140mm f2.8. The IBIS on the X-H1 has really made using the non-stabilised primes way more fun ….
Literally putting together this same setup. Recently snagged the X-H1 w/ Grip for dirt cheap, and have the 35mm/1.4 from my XPro1 days. Now, the important question - which to buy first? ha!
Does the 16-55mm f2.8 render the 16mm f1.4 redundant, though?
You show you're lenses and your preferences. But you also show how much you love photographing and more importantly, the people you photograph. Thank's for this. However, personally, I chose a 50mm for 95% of my pictures, and a 135mm rather than a 85mm as a portrait lens (FF equivalent).
Hi Marc. Maybe you should watch a few more of our vidoes. Namely my four days of photography adventure we recently posted. That may convince you that I feel pretty strongly about photography, as much as the gear. Cheers.
Oh sorry. I misunderstood your post. haha. I thought you said I don't show how much I love photography. :) Sorry
Man, I made the right choice then. My first setup was 18-55 and 35f2. Both are very good. But sold both for 23 1.4 and 56 1.2. never been happier. Both are really spectacular. Maybe will be buying 16 1.4 because I like environmental and usually landscape. Thankyou for the recommendation
8:00 what a lovely family. Five children, absolute king.
Love the colour on your face in the video. It looks very cool and professional. Keep up the good work!
Wonderful review. I can't tell how much I appreciate your video. Thank you very much & wish you always successful!
Best lineup video on RUclips!
I can't believe those 18-55 shots. Time to dust that thing off and walk around!
I use it all the time. Stunning lens
Totally agree with your lense choices. You've cemented my choosing FujiFilm over Sony for my foray past smartphone photography...Thank you!
Unless Sony has a good fast apsc zoom lens like 18-55 or 16-55 then yeah Fuji is no brainer
18-55 for my family and holidays this lens has never disappointed. 23mm f2 for my street work it’s a solid built small lens and cheap.
18 - 55 + 14 for "Everyday", Family, Travel and Landscape
Bought 2nd hand -- so affordable and pretty light for the quality you get.
Excellent video. 35mm f2 is my fav lens of all time across Nikon and Fuji. Just love it. 👊👍
Thanks Nigel
I couldn't agree more about recommending a prime lens for beginners. I can't even estimate how many years I wasted trying to work with zoom lenses before I finally stumbled on my first prime. It was such a dramatic difference that I've never wanted to get another zoom. It seems a shame most beginners go with the kit lens and probably get frustrated.
I started off with zooms, and having picked up an X-T1 and a Meike 35mm f1/7 to go with it, I have to say it's been really enjoyable just using one focal length. I still enjoy my 18-55 and 70-300 I've got for my Nikon D3300, but I feel like I'm going to pick up a plethora of primes for the X-T1. I've already sprung for the 50mm f/2 and I'm very much looking forward to it. Next on my radar is the 90mm f/2!
I like how you put quotes around "final", well knowing that there is no such thing as a "final lens lineup" :D
haha. very true. But interestingly, while I have purchased lenses since this video, I have resold them. In fact, I have fewer lenses than this now, but still a subset of this collection. I do feel like I need the 10-24mm f4 in my life though. :)
@@AndrewGoodCamera Do you still own the XF 18-55? I just bought an X-T2 with that one for a very good price and I am quite happy with it.
@@stulora3172 Yes definitely. We use it for video a ton. And I still enjoy it for street photography.
I've been binging your videos all weekend as I'm about to switch from my Olympus system to the XT3. Appreciate all the help! Also couldn't help but notice the Lehi signage and your frequent shoots in what looks like southern UT. Also located in Lehi!
Hi Miles. Yes, we lived in Lehi for years. Then Highland. Been in St George for 2 and a half now.
@@AndrewGoodCamera small world!
The kit lens is so amazing to me, especially for street shooting since I'm so used to shooting with a Ricoh GR so the specs at the wide end are exactly the same. It's also super sharp at 18mm, way better than the old 18mm prime which I really wanted to love but left me wanting.
Spot-on analysis, especially the 1.4. I have a 2yr old, and this has turned out to be my most versatile lens (although it’s not the easiest to shoot with). For street, or if I want a little extra compression, my 35f2 is a weapon. Although after seeing how the 1.4s render, I now have the 35 1.4/23 1.4 itch...
Or I could quit pretending anyone cares which lens I use and just get out there and shoot more.
Haha. So true.
That's the thing, too many people worry about what equipment they have and that stops them from going out and shooting. Clients or people followers on Instagram don't care what equipment you have as long as it's a good image. The end result is usually what most people care about. However, for the photographer, the better equipment often makes the journey to the end result more enjoyable.
The 1.4s just have a certain way of rendering an image that I find quite pleasing. If I come across a great deal on a used 35 1.4 I'll probably bite, but it's not like I've run into a situation where having f2 cost me the shot. 100% agree with you on the process of taking a picture. Cameras are as much artistic outlets as they are pieces of equipment.
Great overview. Thanks a lot. Especially pointing to the real world use that you make out of these lenses is an invaluable info for beginners in Fuji world.
Very good video, thank you. I'm just switching from m43 to Fuji and this video is gold for me.
thanks for the suggestion, I am going for the 16 1.4, 23 1.4 and 56 1.2
Wow! Just amazing work, amazing video, amazing attitude. You've gained a fan and a follower! I just switched from Sony to Fuji and I'm so glad it caused me to stumble on your channel!
Don't apologize for your lens choices, it's all subjective, and what you need and like. If it works for you then great! Don't care what people think you should be using but doesn't make sense in your situation. Working magic with your photography is all that matters.
The 14mm f2.8 also renders beautifully and is TACK sharp. Close focusing is also great. And it is ALOT smaller than the 16mm f1.4
Great vid. For wide angle shots I love the 10-24 it's sharp, contrasty and has superb OIS for low light, hand held shots. The 18-55 is also a flexible walk about zoom which gives great results. All my prime lens are legacy manual focus they too give excellent results at a fraction of the cost.
What are your favorite legacy lenses?
Denae & Andrew My favourite legacy lenses are Nikkor 50mm 1.8 Ais pancake (very sharp) - Micro Nikkor 55mm 2.8 Ais (Great all round macro lens) - X-Fuginon EBC 28mm 3.5 (This lens beats my other 28mm lenses for sharpness and colour). I also own many others which are good in there own ways.
Tilt adapters are also a lot of fun to use with these old MF lenses.
Excellent presentation and very informative, probably the definitive fuji lens review video
I completely agree with your lens choices, for all the reasons you give, but there's one more, often, overlooked choice the 60mm f2.4. This lens gets a bad press, because of its slow auto focus, which I don't find to be the case using the X-H1. Also, with the latest firmware updates for both that lens and the XH-1 it's a great, compact portrait lens and incredibly sharp. The fact that it's also a macro lens makes it great for product shots too.
My studio space is 18' long, and the 56mm and 60mm I find to be perfect for smaller studios/home set ups.
I love your channel, and it's been interesting watching you grow as a professional. Keep up the great work. 😎
Yeah I really get bugged when I see in forums people who STILL claim that the 60mm 2.4 is a slow focuser. It's simply not true. I understand that it used to be so, before more modern Fuji bodies and firmware updates. But in my test a few months ago, it was just as fast as the 56 1.2. It's a great lens. I just feel like it was mislabeled as a macro, which didn't help its public image. 2:1 is fine, but not really macro.
Denae & Andrew I'll post a few images soon. That should revise some people's opinions of the Fuji f2.4.
I also use a 60mm Yashica 1:1 macro f2.8 Tomioka lens for portraits and macro. This lens is also exceptional in both build, and image rendering quality.
Got to get a wedding album off to the lab, so bye for now.
Keep up the great work. Love the channel. 😎
Just bought a 16mm 1.4 on your recommendation! Love your channel , new subscriber. Keep up the great work!
How do you like it?? I’m torn right now. Can’t decide between the 10-22, 8mm fisheye (manual), and the 16!
Great video, you surely put in a great word for the 16mm1.4!! My current lineup is 18-55 kit, 55-200 and the 35f2 which is my goto for portraits so far while also using an adapted smc takumar 50mm1.4. I´m currently thinking about going wider, favoring the 10-24 although the 16 is so tempting! If I were to shoot more portraits the 56 looks like a dream lens as well.
35f2, 16 f1.4 and the 18-55, 35 f2 remains my favorite love you videos, watch them all, do not normally comment 👍🏻👍🏻✌🏻
Thanks for watching Tony!
Man you're shots are just so good.
Thanks!
I really enjoy your videos; you give what seems like honest and unbiased opinions, and your photographs definitely back up your words.
I am relatively new to photography, having owned a XT-20 for a year. I use the 18-55 kit lens and a Rokinon 12mm. In trying to decide what prime lens to buy I gave myself an exercise where I would set my kit lens to a given aperture for a day or more, and not use the zoom capacity, making it a de facto prime. I'm going to get the 35mmf2, even though you don't list it as one of your choices.
The 35 f2 is one of my favorite lenses for sure. I think you'll love it.
10-24, 35f2, and 56 make up my current kit and are my top 3!
10-24 is tempting.
8-16 and 90 f2 are worth
Guenounovitch 8-16mm if WR would be very tempting, but the 90mm is too specialized for me (56mm is more versatile).
true!
I got the 16 f1.4 ; pancake 27mm ; and looking for a tele.
I own the kit 18-55 too. it's great !
(Got the classic Zoom-triad for FullFrame)
If only the XF 90mm f2 had OIS.....
Guenounovitch yes they are, if you're using the X-H1's IBIS .
If not...
Your reviews just rock. They´re really informative, entertaining and your images are inspiring. Keep´em coming.
Really great video!
My "set" Fuji lineup is: XT3, 10-24, 16-55, 35 2, 56 1.2, 55-200.
Wish they'd release a long telephoto zoom that doesn't have the same weight and dimensions as my Sony GM 100-400. The XT3 can totally keep up now.
Thanks for the clear explanation within the various photography scenes. I' m considering to switch from Nikon to Fuji and was about 90% sure that the new X-T30 with 18-55 would be my first pick. It is now definitely 100%, but I will consider the primes you've mentioned as the first additions.
This is my intro video to your channel. Excellent photos and very useful information. Subscribed!
50-140 2.8 is my favorite for sports and lots of situation where I want lens compression. I use it more than my primes.
James Voos have you compare it to the 100-400mm lens for sports?
My most used Fuji lens would be the 60 2.4. Man I just love that lens and the focal length. It's like a swiss army knife, it can do it all! Most importantly, it's cheap and readily available. Is it perfect? Nope. Does it have the soul we all look for in lenses? Yep. Great video man. I hear so much love for the 16 and makes me interested as well.
Nicholas Erwin - I’ve been considering adding the 60 f2.4 to my lineup too. Have you had luck with being able to focus well in lower light conditions? I wish it was just a little bit faster of a lens. But I really like the dual macro / portrait abilities!
After the new firmware update for the XT2 and using boost mode, I find the 60 to focus pretty well in low light. Much better than it was years ago. It's not perfect but good enough for me. It's one of those lenses that require patience but you'll always be rewarded.
Nicholas Erwin ultra slow
Not slow on my XT2. I use it everyday lol.
It wasn't even on my radar till now, thanks.
The interposition of your great photography made this video enjoyable to watch. Been yearning to defect to Fuji but the system is so darn expensive. I am predominately a landscape guy but the trees don't pay me $hit. That 16 f/1.4 looks to be a killer.
Thank you! :) If you ever figure out how to extort money from those trees, let me know.
My ultimate lens kit is the 23, 56, 18-55, 55-200 & 80mm macro! For everything else there’s vintage!. 📷
My one and only lens right now is the 16-55 f2.8 and I must say that lens is versatile for what I shoot. I've got my eyes on the 16mm next though. that lens is so dang nice!!
Alex Canham are you still considering the 16mm even though you already have the 16mm focal length in your 16-55?
Juul van Geleuken I go back and forth between that lens and a tele or the 10-24. Some of the reasons I haven’t purchased it is because the 16-55 already covers that focal length and it would be redundant to have (but then I see how versatile it is and then it changes my mind again). Lol
go for it , i own the 16-55 and I am very happy with it but the creativity you get from the 16mm1.4 is incredible, this is the one for me that makes the difference.
Pretty much the same as mine.
I just bought the 50-140, it's feckin glorious.
The 18- 55mm is an awesome lens. It’s like having a bag full of primes.
I couldn't agree with you more when it comes to the 16mm 1.4, I absolutely love the images I get from it, if you like the perspective it gives than you can create some amazing portraits with it.
Just got the X-T20 with the 18-55 kit lens and it's encouraging to see how much use it gets. It seems to have a wide range of uses and I'm looking forward to spending a lot of time with it. Also looking at the 27mm f2.8 for a small form factor and maybe the 23mm f1.4 or the 35mm f2. It's so easy to go down the rabbit hole!
Nice work! I appreciate your experience professional and personal, gives a lot of weight to your words. I've had several lenses and sell them often to buy other ones. The one that I won't sell is the 35 1.4, and I use that one the most for my day to day shooting.
Great video as always! I have the 16mm 1.4, 23mm 2 (I'm letting my sister borrow it indefinitely though), 35mm 1.4 and the 56 1.2. The quality I get out of these lenses blows me away every time!
Great video! I'm with you on the 16 f1.4, best lens in optical history. After using just primes, 16, 23, 35 and 50 I recently came upon the 18-55 and I am incredibly impressed with it, small, light, OIS, rendering, amazing value. After going through the bigger part of Nikons modern lens selection, one gets a bit allergic to the 18-55 and 55-200 focal ranges. They're cheap and plastic and no image quality to write home about. This is where Fuji surprises me, their 18-55 and 55-200 are just stellar in almost every aspect. I find that I don't even want the 50-140 and 16-55 "pro" lenses.
Veeery nice video. Well made.
I'm not a Fiji user but I think every one who wants to get some ideas about photography just have to check the right minute. Great photo too.
The 16mm family photos made me go wow out loud
😂 Thanks!
Watched this again. Liked it much better the second time through.
I guess we all get to list our lenses. Mine are Fujifilm. I do have a Nikon D5600 but I rarely use it anymore. So here are my Fujifilm lenses: 16mm f2.8, 23mm f2.0, 27mm f2.8, and 50mm f2.0. I use the 27mm as my normal lens. I really like the angle of view of this lens.
Can’t wait for the 18 1.4
Last year I started with photography for capturing my travel experience and currently I have two lenses: the 18-135 mm as allround lens and I purchased the 100-400 mm for capturing wildlife for a planned trip to Tanzania and Uganda.
The three lenses I want to buy are also the 56 mm and 16 mm and the 35 mm f/2 to bridge the gap between them.
Dug the video and your insight! Happy Father's Day!
Great video Andrew, I agree with most of what you said. I think the 18mm is underrated, it's a great little lens for the price. But if I had to pick my favourite Fuji lens (this might be cheating) I'd pick the 23mm f2 on my X100F, I just love it and the camera!
I just switched to Fuji and bought the XT-1 and the 35mm prime. I love the bokeh and focus ability of this lens, and would say it was optimum until I saw this. Now I have to get the 16mm.... jeesh. I actually set my second option as the 56mm or the new 18-55 OIS, to aid me in animal/children/motorcycle photography. But I love your enthusiasm for the 16mm, very inspiring. Now, I just need to learn how to edit the pictures better ;)
I LOVE the colors in your photos, man !!! Especially the phenomenal 16mm f1.4 ones.
Thank you!
Nice, in-depth summary provided here. I just picked up the 55-200 and I’m looking forward to pairing it with my 16mm on nature shoots.
Very good video; like the way you divide the lenses by subject. My fav lenses are the 18-55 and 10-24 zoom lenses and the 16mm f/1.4 and the 35mm f/2.0 primes. I shoot mainly landscapes/nature, cityscapes, family/dog, travel, social events.
Thanks, you answered so many questions I was asking myself...
I shoot portraits (most often outdoor senior portraits and street style), and after many year, and owning tons of lenses (primes, 2.8 zooms etc), i was able to narrow down my lenses to only a few.
When I shot Fuji, my bread and butter was the 56 1.2 and the Mitakon 35mm f0.95. There are no words to describe the rendering of these 2 lenses. And the large aperture resulted beautiful background blur.
Since I have been using the 6Dii for my portraits, I use the Sigma 35, 50 and 85 1.4 Art lenses. 90% of the time I carry the 85 and the 50 for the shoots, because they give me the option to isolate the subject, or incorporate the environment. I also sometimes use the 35 1.4 when I know, that the location will be really unique and I want to show much, while still creating a soft background.
So for me, the seach for the best lens combination has finally come to an end, and I have everything that I need for my style. The fewer the lenses you own (and carry), the less you will think about what lens to use for a specific task, and will help focus on the creative side of photography, which is a huge deal :)
Really enjoyed this review! Amazing pictures, and a wealth of information. Makes me love my Fuji ecosystem even more. Now i just need to get some more of these lenses.
Great! After one year and a few months, except 18-55 zoom lens (and I'm X-Pro2 user), I have exactly same lineup! I agree with everything all you said here! Cheers! Petr
18-55 was more of an accident for me. I never planned on buying it. But when I had the chance to buy an XA-3 with it in its kit for nearly half off a few months ago so jumped on it. I almost sold it outright, but now, of course, am glad I didn't.
So let the lens work well for years! :-) Cheers! Petr
The pictures are gorgeous!
Thanks!
What a very well crafted video!
this is seriously a well thought out and helpful video. Thanks!
I really love your videos, you are the one whose style is the closest to mine. I will take your advice and get the xf 56mm as my next lens next to my 16mm f1.4
