    Hi Dan, I have got my battery and data cable all sorted. Just for your info, we have a newly created 'no anchor zone' local to us here in the UK. I was able to mark this out on the Garmin by varying your method. I marked a few points on the edges on the zone on Google Maps, saving them to text, converting them to gpx and saving them as a track, rather than waypoints. By going to saved tracks on the Garmin I can see the zone nicely marked out.

    Hi Dan, I followed your instructions and made my .gpx file on my Mac and when I put the micro SD card and followed your instructions to merge data from the card it could not recognize any files at all on my micro SD card. Do I have to do this process from an non-Mac computer for my Garmin to see and find the file? Thanks

    • @DanRichardFishing

      You have to make sure the SD Card is formatted in Fat32. If you confirmed it is and the unit is still not picking up the .GPX file, make sure the unit is looking for that filetype (it could be set to be looking for the other filetype it supports instead of GPX).

      Hi Frank, thank you so much for subscribing to the channel! So the Striker series is really their entry product and as you mentioned, it has no SD Card so there are no updates or maps you can add to it at all. The newer Striker Plus series have built in Wifi and can connect to Active Captain, but the older models are more a "what you see is what you get" kind of deal. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful :(

Homeport is no longer available from Garmin, do you have an alternative program for manipulating waypoints? Also an alternative action to buying and using Garmin Ultra for calculating fluctuating lake levels is depth shading. If a lake is down 5' then change all your shading by 5'. 0-5 being dirt.

    What is the best way to build trolling routes at home and transfer them to my Garmin EchoMap chartplotters to control my Garmin Force trolling motor? In our lake the stripers often hang at 40-60 feet and trolling using my Garmin Force trolling motor with downriggers is the most productive technique. My problem is that I tell my boat driver brother I have lures at 55 and 50 feet and he often hangs up all my gear in 40 feet of water, even with a dedicated map unit and great maps. He also has no concept of how gradually to make turns to avoid creating problems with my JetDiver rods with 100-124 feet of line out. He makes the same mistakes in the same places over and over again and my female partner boat driver wasn’t much better.
    If I could build some trolling routes at home and transfer them to my GPS units fishing could be a lot more effective and enjoyable for all concerned.
    I played around with my tablet and Active Captain and could do a fair job with it, but my tablet is WiFi only, not waterproof and usually not on the boat. It seems it would be a pain to create the routes on my phone because of the small screen and the general lack of precision using my fat fingers as pointing devices. I would prefer to build the routes on a computer with a decent size screen and mouse, but Active Captain doesn’t run on Windows. Garmin Express does run on windows, but I don’t know if can do what I need.
    Can someone else who been through this point me in the right direction?
    Thanks

    Hey Dan, very useful video thanks!
    I'm very new to GPS technology. How come in my part of the country with my Echomap plus, the GPS is about 20-30 feet off on a few lakes around here? Every other lake I fish it works fantastic!
    Is it the satellites? Thanks!

    • @DanRichardFishing
      @DanRichardFishing  3 года назад +1

      You're very welcome! So when you fish on your lake, the GPS location is off by 20 or 30 feet or the map itself is off? You can actually check to see if it's the GPS coordinates by setting a waypoint on your unit and on your phone in Google Maps and then check to see if they have matching coordinates. They may differ slightly but should be within 5 feet. If they match, then for some reason your maps are off. I'd call Garmin and ask them about it.

      Hi Matt! I am not aware of any issues related to Mac as far as comments and feedback go, but I trust a Mac to do what it should about as far as I can throw it if I'm being honest lol! In terms of updating, yes you do have to update both units separately, but do bear in mind you should be able to do the two UHDs via the Active Captain app. I was hoping to do a video on this, but my 95SV Plus actually died on my a few weeks ago. I bought a uhh 93sv and read that the lsv12 would work with it, now I read on Garmin that it’s only 10sv and up!! Will it work???

    • @DanRichardFishing
      @DanRichardFishing  3 года назад

      Hi Brian, yeah I find the Livescope transducers a bit confusing myself... so the LVS12 only works with the Utra series, not the UHD series, which is actually two different series. UHD is the Ultra High Definition series that comes in a 6", 7" or 9" screen. Only the 7" and 9" have the Panoptix port on the back BUT you need the Livescope black box set that includes the black box and the LVS2 transducer. That's the key difference in that the Ultra series that are the 10"' or 12" units have the next generation of black box "built in" the units and that's why the LVS12 only works on those units and the GPSMap 8xxx series and the LVS32 requires the external box for any unit. So to answer your question, the LVS12 will not work on an UHD unit, it only works on the Ultra series. Would need to get the back box and LVS32 set, that is unfortunately 3 times the price.

    Hey Dan good morning, I’m trying to learn how to read and understand my Garmin fish finder, can you help and explain? When looking at the screen? Are the fish straight down or are they to the left or right when you see fish on the screen? Appreciate your knowledge, Frank.

    • @DanRichardFishing
      @DanRichardFishing  3 года назад

      Hi Frank, this is a tough one to answer as a reply to your comments because there are sooooo many variables. This year I will be making videos on how to read your sonar so hopefully you'll find that very useful. Basically you're looking for arches when scanning for fish or distinct fish on bottom with separation. On DV you'll see spots (air bladders) and on SV if I am being honest, I don't see fish unless they are HUGE with my Garmin units. I am told you see fish with UHD transducers and the Ultra units, but I can't confirm it. So I promise to have more videos this year on using your units out on the water!
