I have always been a big fan of his. He did a brilliant Tony Hancock impression and his Jimmy Carter was hilarious. He became Frank Sinatra totally. The pressure of it all and got too much and he was running out of ideas. It happened to The Two Ronnie's. He had a great run and called it a day. He is happy now, teetotal and spends a lot of time with his family. He did appear on "This Is Your Life" when Bob Monkhouse was the guest and did an impression of him. Bob couldn't stop laughing. I have his DVDs.

@@dlamiss I agree; but no impressionist has managed to look exactly like the person that they are impersonating, than Mike. He looked extraordinarly like Sinatra, Parkinson and Ken Dodd as examples. His Max Bygraves was wickedly funny. He had the gestures and the way that they walked as well. John Colshaw is far more accurate, but he and other top impressionists regard him as "The Governor". John is brilliant, but lacks the ability to look completely like the character. He is more if a voice over artist. Mike had a great career, and I still crack up at his Jimmy Carter impression. I have a DVD of his shows which I thoroughly enjoy. I also have the Stanley Baxter DVDs which are brilliant. Stanley was more of a comedy actor and a master impressionist.

I hope that, given the advancement of impressions and the whole new realm it took under Spitting Image, Rory Bremner etc (and I enjoy both), I really hope Mike Yarwood gets the recognition he deserves as time moves ever forward. Whilst the jokes were not biting and sometimes quite basic, Mike deserves credit for making the art of impressions mainstream and acceptable for a family audience. More of the tropes and traits impressionists use for celebrities during his own successful period and the ones he did himself, often are directly or indirectly inspired by Yarwood. He set the bar and allowed famous people to be characters. Even when the impression itself wasn't top notch or if the accent wasn't perfect (for example, say, Dave Allen), the way he copied the body language and hand movements is almost an artform itself.

Mike Yarwood Performance Highlights 2159pm 15.5.23 i liked mike yarwood... and again, impersonators or impressionists have a general ladder of skill they can adhere to... Yarwood tries to be topical and create an impersonation you can get straight off... whereas Harry Enfield doesn't really bother even adhering to anything which would lead you to think he's impersonating such and such a public figure...his laziness as taking off a character in the public eye is lazy and therein lies the humour. that said Enfield's going to the polish coffee shop has turned out kindda scary... and a well observed situation he may have found himself in... as for Yarwood being ill. again, the rags lie as do his alleged friends etc etc etc... the old treadmill of b.s is put in motion even for the lowliest amongst us... comedy has died a death. and i would ask those who did it down what will actually be left for us to enjoy once the offensive ness has been driven off and the acts and observations cleaned up? banality will merely allow you to discern the simulation. banality is all that we will have left... which was already well to the fore as with impersonations.... we all knew it was an impersonation, an impression the comedian was presenting.... we didnt need protecting from that fact...
