    The military technology for the civilian living is something this movie borrowed from robocop. It also is a parody of real life where a lot of thw technolgy that people used today was develped (or at least a predicessor was) for military use first. Far from everything the military develops is weapons with a lot of common use solutions being made with the execuse of military budget to back it. Duct tape, super glue and enelope sealant are just a few examples we technically owe to military development practices. The satire is in the more loose regualations pertaining to the induction of such products into the free market later. What is to stop a company from developing something with military industrial funding by the government and then marketing it directly to civilians in ways that may not be best for them or isn't so civilian friendly. They werent really putting weapons into the toys..but they were putting failed A.I. chips, programmed with agressive war based strategies of cammand and conquer into them because it was cheap and an idiot who never should have had the power to was enabled soley through a buisness mindset. The company that made robocop basically had the power to buy the police through their lucrative government development partnership and the militant technology to use that postion of power to take over. It wasnt that they planned to sell guns commercially to the public but could do so on the black markey as well as turn them agaisnt the same people they were making them for.

  • @aliquidgaming1068
    @aliquidgaming1068 2 года назад +1

    The movie is a satire actually lol
    It was intentionally made that way. The opening commercial is suppose yo set that up when it says it's making military grade equipment affordable for the whole family. Also the music choice in interviews was chosen to be satire on the scenes they are in, while also making it feel like an action flick using popular generic music from the time. The commandos are made to look like trigger happy war monger jarheads. While the gorgonites are aliens of different color and all look very different, yet are made of the same metal and wire as the commandos.
    If it were made today people would call it woke and uninspired, yet the creators have stated it was a satire and also made to be a anti war piece and how strong military nations typically will wipe out anything and anyone in their way.

    • @AveryTalksAboutStuff
      @AveryTalksAboutStuff  2 года назад +1

      I totally get that it's satire and I actually really do love this movie. But it is so funny that most people went in thinking it was a normal kids movie because when you go in expecting that it's bonkers. I mean, it's bonkers anyway but...in a good way.

    Alright where is the comment where someone says the girl destroying her barbies is a metaphor for her fighting against the Male patriarchy.
    EDIT there it is,

  • @nsalegit9482
    @nsalegit9482 4 года назад +1

    Disclaimer: I'm not Jack saint either, and it's been a long time since I've seen this film. But I think there's something maybe feminist about the whole barbie scene.
    It's clear that the imperialist army men see the barbies through the lense of the male gaze, sexualizing them, then the army men literally erect a machine that forces the barbies to change their bodies to suit the purposes of imperialism, akin to how women's bodies are policed and harrassed if they dont fit into the patriarchal heteronormative ideal, which as a reminder is a big part of imperialist/fascist tendencies.
    The 14 words that many of the fash quote incessantly/live by consign women to only reproductive and domestic labor roles, and the eugenics movement in the US, was very much about the "right" women reproducing to secure an overtly white supremacist future.
    In the film, the young woman who had been collecting barbies is literally taken hostage by these exaggerated versions of femininity, repurposed through an imperialist male gaze (which is why they are all talking in super sexualized ways, while simultaneously engaging in murder, a version of the madonna whore complex.) Of course the metaphor breaks down when she is initially rescued by a male, but ultimately, she herself destroys the barbie toys, perhaps as a symbol of destroying patriarchal expectations of herself in her own life, and freeing herself to live authentically to her own desires.
    thanks for coming to my ted talk.

    • @AveryTalksAboutStuff
      @AveryTalksAboutStuff  4 года назад
