Always appreciate what you provide Alex. Normally I go sword or melee but Kisara and Dolahim have me intrigued so gonna go with them first playthrough.
Typically I'd play as Alphen or Law, but how often does your cleric have a gun? I'm definitely going to give Shionne a try. Kisara and Dohalim seem a bit too technical for my taste, but Rinwell seems like she'll be able to break the tedium of playing a mage, since there'll be more to her than just standing still and waiting for her arte to charge.
Rinwell feels like you're going to be able to break the game with her pretty easily (Like Rita in Vesperia). Expect some long high damage combo builds from her lol.
I started playing yesterday and I honestly immediately switched to Shionne as soon as I got her (which is very early into the game) and it's more fun than Alphen, at least in early stages
In Tales of Vesperia after trying out all of the playable characters I never felt the need to switch off of Yuri. He was by far the best character to me. In this one? I’m going to be switching like crazy, whenever I can because I’m sure certain characters will depart from the party at times during the story.
I loved Vesperia for how different every character was. I think Rita was probably the most OP character, though Judith had definitely a lot of appeal if you like insane "DMC style" combos. Estelle was a very good turtling character, basically invincible, but quite bad damage wise. Raven was very fun with all his versatility and the fact he felt like Huang Zhong in Warriors of Fate.
@@KrieGor27 Yup. Rita was defo the most op there. Not really op but more like great AOE damage dealer. She'd be like blah blah blah, and bam! Done. Funny coz Rinwell defo is a copy of Rita with the blah blah blah and whole appearance wise, except for Rita's haughty personality.
That game was good at the time . Went back to it before arise came out and I can see it's age but it was definitely great at the time. I do wish that arise to more of its more combo strings from that game tho .since Arise only has one basic combo unfortunately
Great video! Informative without spoiling the deeper aspects of combat (for example, a huge part of Law’s gameplay is the ability to use a pretty any time you take damage after a combo). I really wanted to switch between characters as I played, but after getting Rinwell and seeing how high her skill ceiling was, I stuck with her for the majority of the game. Playing Rinwell and switching to another character feels like playing a new game entirely. Same for Shionne to a lesser extent. Gameplay wise, this game is a masterpiece.
Hell yeah, glad to see you covering this game! I'm super hyped as a long-time Tales fan to see them really breaking the mold here and moving the series forward in a way that hasn't been done before.
I'll admit I've fallen into the "just using the main character in battle" thing before in most of the games but recently especially with berseria it's super fun to have other battle styles to choose from. With this game I'm gonna try to do that even more. Law and Kisara seem right up my ally in terms of play style as well as alphen of course. Never been a fan of pure mages (always been more of a get in close and destroy type but Rinwell seems like she'd be fun to play as also
Velvet is perfectly set to be the easy choice for ongoing combos. I tell my friends if they wanna multi, I'll play Rokurou or Magilou and let them stick with Velvet :P
Here in Arise, I also am just playing with the Alphen (MC). I guess because I am just accustomed to him, but of course, I make sure to level up all the other characters I have so in case I want to use them I can be as strong as I can with them.
I really struggled playing this demo, i played with 3 characters through it only using them so will now try the other 3 with the knowledge you have shared thank you 😄
Love the series but playing the demo each character definitely controls differently this is a case where I wish they had a training session for each character because it took me a minute to understand some of the dynamics behind those characters and I still didn’t understand everything until I watched this video. I hope in the main game they definitely have an option to simply train your character just run around in a mock battle with fire infinite HP enemy you can practice on
Awesome video, so with Rinwell you can stack a magic attack and when you cast a different one after that, you create like a altered arte. Or the thing that you said, you stack of the same type, to create a super powerful one, like high tier class. Damn, this game it's much more than I have expected, I can't wait for 10 September
Thank you for this overview. I haven't played the demo yet but Rinwell and Shianne look pretty interesting and unique in their playstyle. Definitely going to try them out.

I hardly ever subscribe to channels, but this video was so good I just had too. Thanks for the vid and I hope you keep on updating the info when the game comes out.
Am loving the game. I just hope that there is a way to assign more attacks to a person. Having 3 for on ground and 3 for in air makes it awkward if you want to assign a lot of spells or grounds attacks for a combo for some characters. Another issue is if you want to play a spellcaster/healer/ranged character like Shionne you can't without going into the menu and swapping artes which breaks the flow of combat. The reason being is that with only 3 artes assigned, that leaves you with one heal, one spell attack and one regular attack, not much diversity tbh. Playing with melee only characters is fine though because it flows naturally to have 6 artes that can links into one another.

This wasn't on my radar at all to be honest. My backlog of games is massive and I just haven't been crazy about anything lately. Started replaying kings of amalur on ps4 and then saw this went on sale for $30 so I picked it up. So glad I didn't miss this game. This is one of my favorite jrpgs I have played in a LONG time. I think I'm even enjoying it more than FF7 remake. I've been playing jrpgs since the original final fantasy on nes for reference so I have over 30 years of rpg experience. That being said if anyone else can recommend any other games in this league I'd love to hear some more! Thanks for the great video..I just got rinwell and I'm trying to start to get more experienced with my combat so this definitely helped out
This game was definitely an amazing journey, I would recommend this game not only for the deep narrative driven story but the gameplay is fast and fun to mess around with. If you haven’t played it definitely give it a try 👍🏼
I picked up Tales of Arise the other day and I'm really enjoying it so far. That said, I do find melee combat to be pretty awkward, so I usually stick to Rinwell and Shionne. Currently trying to figure out how best to combo with Rinwell since sometimes allies can just stop attacking the enemy while I'm charging my spell, so trying to weave RB's between spell charges, though I could also play around with the AI to make them more aggressive.
Thanks for covering this, Alex. Arise looks really promising combat-wise. On which system did you capture the footage? PS: So Dohalim's special art is Expand Dong. Sorry, I'll see myself out...
I noticed Rinwell can store combined artes to chain to your 3rd arte. So during the 2nd cast after storing 1 arte you can store the 2nd spell to hold onto a Shooting Star, then SS will release at the same time as your next spell. It's 3 casts in but for burst phases it sounds great. Makes me wonder if Rinwell has hidden artes requiring a combo arte + a base arte.
Yeah, it took me a while to realize how deep Rinwell’s magic charge is. If you charge air thrust and cast air thrust, she will cast cross blade. But, if you charge air thrust and charge and charge another air thrust, she will store a cross blade. After storing a cross blade, try casting spread…
Honestly, the ones I thought I would like from the opening movie seem like they would be right up my alley in this too. They're Rinwell, Law and Dahalim
I love all of these characters, Dohalim especially, but my biggest problem with playing him as the controlled character is his artes just get waaay too limited, especially late game. Since he has good heals, spells, and melee artes, and the controlled character is limited to 6 ground attacks (and 6 arial), you kind of have to pick how you want to utilize him if you control him in battle. Whereas if he's AI controlled he has access to his full artes list and can more easily fill any role on a dime. Over all though this is a fantastic Tales game, and actually better than I had worried it would be. This main cast has pretty solidly become one of my favorites, and I've played almost all of the flagship titles.
What got me sold on this is the 70 something Bosses. I need my games to have high replayability value, if not content, seeing this games is apparently like 30-40 hours just
Gameplay definitely looks different to what the trailer led me to believe it would be. Thought it was an action RPG with tight combat, although this doesn't look bad either.
Had a really hard time sticking with some of the previous Arise games, just due to some of the grindy tropes of JRPG's. But this one is really looking amazing. The much larger budget is easy to notice. Great video as always! Can't wait to try it out. BTW was surprised you didn't release any content on The Ascent. Did you happen to try it out? I really ended up enjoying it. Finished it a cpl days ago.
@@BoomstickGaming really? I had a lot of fun with it. I think a large part of it had to do with the world they built and the theme, but man did they do such an incredible job hand crafting the world.
Ive almost never played anyone else aside alphen in this game and while everyone else looks fun to play as especially rinwell, ive always stuck with alphen. Might try out everyone else after i either beat the game and go to the training grounds, or try them out in other playthroughs.
Might be a bit late, but this is what each character’s Boost attack does: - Alphen: Fire damage and instant Down on an enemy if not in Overlimit - Shionne: Unleashes a line AoE of multiple hits that will bring flying enemies to their knees for a brief time - Rinwell: Will do several hits of damage as well as prevent enemies from casting and steal their Arte as a Magic Charge for herself (only when they’re in the middle of casting) - Law: A brutal hit that can force enemies back in some cases, but in most cases is used to break armor and shields of enemies that reduces damage - Kisara: A wall that does damage while stopping charging enemies - Dohalim: Creates a small AoE of Earth-based damage and prevents agile enemies from dodging YOUR attacks Using the right boost on the right enemies will Down the enemy (such as using Rinwell on an enemy casting an Arte or using Kisara to stop a charging enemy); you’ll know who to use by party combat comments
I finished the game today and enjoyed my 50 hours i spent on it. However after watching this video i can't help but feel that I've robbed myself of some of the fun this game had to offer me . I only played as Alphen the entire time, i didn't understand how to use burning strikes until past lv30. Once I got the warrior emblem accessory i enhanced it and used transfer skill to max out attack and equip it on Alphen. This meant that my reigning slash was doing massive damage and would out DPS any combos I could hope to do . This lead to just spamming one ability behind the enemy for the last 15 hours of the game .
My first tales game ever, 33 hours in and liked it so far. On the get go i choose the 1 level before hard difficulty and oh boy every boss battle always have me on the edge of sit. So far im still trying to find the optimum setup for my play and to be honest i havent found one yet haha since almost every boss bottle i have to consume like 9 life bottle and some CP pot. I main alpen like almost all the time, hes just fells very flexible, dashing quickly, juggling nicely too. And when enemy, you can count on him to deliver punishment. I've been avoiding youtube so far since i dont want any spoiler. Some jackass on youtube put spoiler as their title and put a goddamn thumbnail zz. Got this vid from my friends, good job avoiding any unnecessary spoiler
Very important to note that you should not play characters that aren't proficient in the desired playstyle have them in your group with only those abilities enabled and hold sp until you unlock most of the trees or there will be regrets. Late game though this guide slays like I thought Dohalim was a weaker Shineon that died alot nah bruh he is op
Having only recently getting into the Tales series as of two years ago, I’m so glad I managed to pre order this game when I had the chance. I hope somewhere further down the like there will be a remastered version for the earlier games such as Symphonia and Destiny.
Honestly, I have the most fun with Law (despite his dumb name) cuz it feels so satisfying to do his combos and become an unrelenting torrent of whoop ass
Rinwell would probably get along quite well with Rita Mordio. I sure hope Rinwell won't chase down the baddies(looked like she was chasing a dog let loose) like Rita did before I customized her.
I have my eye on this game and while the combat looks interesting the enemies seem super tanky Are all enemies this durable or more in the build you have?
There is a stat in this game called penetration that is basically about how fast enemies stagger and its depends on which character you choose since the penetration stat differs
In case you didn't already figure it out, yes, it's possible. Though you can only go as low as 2. The game has 4 in battle slots and 4 reserve slots, so with only 6 party members you can position them either 4 in battle, 2 in reserve or 2 in battle, 4 in reserve or 3 in, 3 out configuration.
Personally, in battles, I'm boring, I like alphen, but occasionally, I'll battle as shionne, as she seems the best for half the game till she gets heavily nerfed later on, however 99% of the time I battle as alphen and run around in the world as shionne, boring, I know, but I personally prefer that set up

Though the combat system has improved, what I care more about is the story.
Hopefully the game delivers
Honestly, the ones I thought I would like from the opening movie seem like they would be right up my alley in this too.
They're Rinwell, Law and Dahalim
What a coincidence Dohalim, my special skill too is "Rod Extension" 5:52
It is very much an action rpg with super tight fast and responsive combat. But it is very much an rpg first and a action game second.
I received The Ascent early but did not cover it. It felt really shallow and lifeless to me.
You mean tales games right not arise games
@@blakefenslerjr4858 Bingo thank u sir
@@mitcHELLOworld no problem
@@BoomstickGaming really? I had a lot of fun with it. I think a large part of it had to do with the world they built and the theme, but man did they do such an incredible job hand crafting the world.
Ive almost never played anyone else aside alphen in this game and while everyone else looks fun to play as especially rinwell, ive always stuck with alphen. Might try out everyone else after i either beat the game and go to the training grounds, or try them out in other playthroughs.
Might be a bit late, but this is what each character’s Boost attack does:
- Alphen: Fire damage and instant Down on an enemy if not in Overlimit
- Shionne: Unleashes a line AoE of multiple hits that will bring flying enemies to their knees for a brief time
- Rinwell: Will do several hits of damage as well as prevent enemies from casting and steal their Arte as a Magic Charge for herself (only when they’re in the middle of casting)
- Law: A brutal hit that can force enemies back in some cases, but in most cases is used to break armor and shields of enemies that reduces damage
- Kisara: A wall that does damage while stopping charging enemies
- Dohalim: Creates a small AoE of Earth-based damage and prevents agile enemies from dodging YOUR attacks
Using the right boost on the right enemies will Down the enemy (such as using Rinwell on an enemy casting an Arte or using Kisara to stop a charging enemy); you’ll know who to use by party combat comments
That's what I did. No regrets.
This is by far the best tales game I've played.
I was wondering if this game would be worth picking up, but if Boomstick gave it a thumbs up then it's a no-brainer.
Damn bro, amazing video, really sold the game for me tbh, it's on sale on Xbox atm so will probably pick it up
Rinwell seems like she's gonna be OP as hell just like Laphicet and Magilou on Berseria.
Blah blah blah Indignation!!!!!!! Lol
Shield chick interests me the least...she'll probably be my favorite.
Got this vid from my friends, good job avoiding any unnecessary spoiler
i've been waiting for a Tales game to be on the same level as Tales of Symphonia, hoping this can live up to that.
Law and Dohalim will be my go to for sure
The game is absolutely fun! Just wished it were couch coop like previous games.
Having only recently getting into the Tales series as of two years ago, I’m so glad I managed to pre order this game when I had the chance. I hope somewhere further down the like there will be a remastered version for the earlier games such as Symphonia and Destiny.
I went to Gamestop and was about to be mad, when I thought this game was PS5 only. Thankfully I found it for PS4 Pro. This is my first Tales Of game.
demon fang, it's so classic
Double demon fang
Law and Alphen are the most fun to play as in my opinion. Super excited about this game
Honestly, I have the most fun with Law (despite his dumb name) cuz it feels so satisfying to do his combos and become an unrelenting torrent of whoop ass
Did the demo not explain the assist attacks? Like Rinwell cancels enemy spells and Kisara blocks charging foes with the shield wall.
nice ty bro for the vid
Rinwell would probably get along quite well with Rita Mordio. I sure hope Rinwell won't chase down the baddies(looked like she was chasing a dog let loose) like Rita did before I customized her.
This is an amazing game i had a blast playing it and finished it in a week after it's release
Can you drop the spell combos you've found so far?
I have my eye on this game and while the combat looks interesting the enemies seem super tanky
Are all enemies this durable or more in the build you have?
I am playing on one difficulty higher than "normal". Also, the majority of this gameplay has the party members not attacking.
There is a stat in this game called penetration that is basically about how fast enemies stagger and its depends on which character you choose since the penetration stat differs
Can't wait to get this for PS4
Is it possible to remove party members from combat? Like, maybe I'll want to make a run with only a duo or even solo.
Got it for my PC and “Pre-Ordered” the day before it released hahaha and got the awesome skins
I’ve tried the guys so far. Fell in love with law. Gonna try the ladies today
Something wrong with the other characters ?? Why they stay quietly and not going fight while the character we controled fight ??
They are set to Manual so they dont fight
cant wait to get and play it!
I love this game
Definitely be getting this on Christmas
I played the demo and it was alot of fun fighter is my playstyle tho and he plays very well
There is a certain level 100 boss that you most likely can’t beat unless you switch to shionne or dohalim near the end of the fight.
*When you don't play either other than Alphen but plays them on the training grounds*
Oh god, I need to play it again on new game+ with swap options
Dohalim's playtsyle is really interesting
I almost never use the Flaming Edge perk on Alphen. I probably should use it more often...
can you main a character or is it closer to final fantasy 15 or something where you just switch to them in combat
Best JRPG in recent years.
omg tales game is sooooooooooo much fun this time this gotta be goty
Law looks wild!!
Do you guys know if the game will be fully diologued
5:52 my main perk is also ROD EXTENSION 😉
Personally, in battles, I'm boring, I like alphen, but occasionally, I'll battle as shionne, as she seems the best for half the game till she gets heavily nerfed later on, however 99% of the time I battle as alphen and run around in the world as shionne, boring, I know, but I personally prefer that set up
