I wanted to come back to this review after putting 45+ hours in the game and I must say, BEST game I’ve played in a while I’m loving it so much I never get tired of the combat and the dialogue and character interactions make everything so much better
@@imadkhristo6422 I’d say go for it if you want to get invested into a nice story with addictive combat. I’ve finished the game now but looking back on it, it was really good and I enjoyed my run through.
This game takes everything we loved from the Tales series and 1 ups everything in my own opinion. I started with Tales of Symphonia. I have only played roughly a few hours and kust now got to Balseph. In that time, I interacted with every NPC to find the world building unique and catering to a real and feasible situation to understand. I took the paths that were out of the way only to find hidden items, owls, and boss monsters. It's a great feeling to see the new system of AG since in previous Tales games, you had to manage your AG more carefully. The combat feels fluid taking it from Berseria's open camera with a focus to one creature for ease of battlefield awareness and Arte usage. Alongside this, they've added the crafting system and fleshed out the cooking system to be exactly what all Tales game could have used. It's nice to see that the skits changed to a comic style which gives me a Manga feel. Any cutscenes and full animation scenes blew me away. The intro alone gave me chills and I hope and wish they make it into a real anime series like they did with Tales of Symphonia. Overall, if you've ever wanted to try a Tales series game, or are a long time fan on the edge, do yourself a favor and buy the game.
I think it’s a perfect sequel game. It kept the soul of the series while improving on the game design. The fact that the weapons change as they get upgraded is big.
I've been playing Tales games since Tales of Phantasia and Tales of Destiny. Already have Arise downloaded and I can't wait to play through another grandiose adventure starting tomorrow.
Yeah I just finished preloading it. Honestly I wanted to go in blind but when I saw this video was published I just couldn't help myself since Gameranx usually does a good job of avoiding major story spoilers. Edit: Also since everyone's saying theirs I've been there from the very beginning (NA localized, not Japanese) with Tales of Destiny. I really enjoyed Berseria and having the story centered around anti-heros so I'm glad they're sticking with the more mature vibe of that game even if they aren't strictly anti-heroes like that one.
I've played a few Tales games but this one is on a totally different level. It feels like they were finally given the budget to do what they wanted with the series, upgrade to a modern engine, really focus on polish, and it paid major dividends. I'm a big JRPG fan and honestly I think this is my favorite since FFX, so that gives a sense of how long it's been since I enjoyed a JRPG this much.
This is exactly what I said too myself today, my favorite JRPG since FFX. I'm at what I presume is the half way mark with the red woman just showing up and this game is awesome! My only complaint is them stopping every ten feet to talk, they never shut up.
I find you one of the best reviewers out there, really good honest opinions, in a not overly long video. I always watch your reviews before deciding on a buy. I really appreciate your time and energy you put into these!

If you are new to the tales series and you wanna dive into it, this is a good starting point. If you wanna backtrack, definitely plays tales of Symphonia because this game is heavily inspired by that. Tales of Graces F is a personal favorite of mine. Tales of the abyss is more than worth your time. Tales of Xillia 1 & 2 is always worth a mention.
I started at Vesperia and never looked back. Bought every one after and also went back with the remasters of symphonia and abyss. Even bought the vesperia remaster. My opinion is there is no bad Tales game, just those that are better and those that are worse.
@@Silvamoon You're absolutely right, no such thing as a bad tales game. So I'm confused where people have been saying the series needs a reboot. I mean I know they aren't perfect no game is, but they are always good games.
I'd highly recommend people try the other tales games too. It's such a fun franchise, and one of the few RPGs that supports couch coop with up to 4 characters. My first was tales of the abyss on the ps2. Personally my favorite are tales of berseria and tales of vesperia.
If you have a pc, I would suggest getting tales of vesperia at some point if you enjoy this after playing tales of Arise. Vesperia's characters are so good. Story was great.
I'd recommend Berseria over Vesperia honestly but eh, everyones got an opinion and nobody is wrong for having it. I just enjoyed that you weren't traditional heroes in Berseria which they have usually been in the Tales series.
Just started this based on your review. Gotta say, I'm only a couple hours in and I LOVE it. Everything is so grandiose - the story, the music, the scope of everything. I've been searching for a new RPG to really sink my teeth into, and I think this is it.
@@MannyloAnimeSquad just defeated ganabelt and so far the game is great dat boss was hard af i played on hard from the beginning but there i had to lower the difficulty i died like 10 times in hatd

After looking over the comments I find it stunning how many people have never played a Tales game before. Tales of the Abyss and Tales of Berseria have been my favorite Tales games so far. It looks like this game might become one of my favorites too!
Well there's a couple factors that can account for it. A lot of people just don't play JRPG's for one, the second is they may just be to young to have been around when some of the earlier games in the series came out but perhaps the most notable reason is Bandai/Namco has never really pushed the Tales series hard via marketing. Arise is the first time I've ever seen a Tales game on Steams homepage, the rest are just hidden beneath more popular series during publisher sales. I mean Tales isn't unknown but it definitely doesn't have the fanbase or clout of competitors like Final Fantasy and SMT: Persona.
I've known about the Tales game for a while now but I never played any of the Tales game before because they've always looked like cheap JRPGs with low production quality. I may be a fan of JRPGs but I don't just play any JRPGs on the market. Although, for Tales of Arise, I'm genuinely interested in checking it out because it actually looks good.
Man my first introduction to the tales of series is Symphonia and my favorite game is abyss but it’s good to see new people being introduced to the tales of series
This entry into the Tales series has been absolute refreshing experience and I can't wait to keep playing this game. From the moment the intro kicked in I was hooked.
I miss the multiplayer but I love the passion and care Namco put into this. I hope Namco can somehow implement that trademark staple in the future. With that said, I’m a long time fan. Like a ton of westerner, I was introduce to the series with Symphonia on the GC. It and Abyss remains my favorite two in the series. This game looks amazing though, I would be surprise if doesn’t bump of those two as my favorites or at least comes close.
Tales of symphonia was what broke my tales virginity, since then i've played a lot of the series but never actually ended finishing any other than ToS. I feel like this one might be the next one that i'll be able to commit to all the way.
Similar story here, Symphonia was my first one almost a decade ago. Since then, I scrounged around and acquired a copy of every Tales game that was released in the west, and even one that wasn't, just for funsies (Innocence R). I've played all of them to a point, but Xillia 1 is the only one I've actually gotten around to finishing. Beyond that, I've gotten the farthest in Abyss, Berseria, and Symphonia. Arise may end up being my 2nd one to beat!
From all of the games I have played, Velvet has the best development as a character. By the end of the game she was a completely different person then the monster that was thrown in prison.
Berseria was easily my favorite as well. Arise looks good but I haven't seen enough of it to claim it will take the top spot away from Berseria just yet. I certainly hope it's that good but Berseria set a high bar.
Berseria was my potential favourite until they screwed up the ending. Tales series have gone 3 consecutives games with terrible "MC sacrifice" plot. I want to buy this game but im not sure if they repeat the same bs ending again because from all i've seen the story kinda dark giving me Berseria vibes which potentially they screw up another ending again.
@@thishandleistacken right? There have been 15 main entries and like 20 others, which ff are they talking about? Lol. Not to mention there hasn’t been a single ff made in this cell-shaded anime art style. So confused
@@akou12 ah yeh the cringe of feeling the dramatic changes from turn based to active in FF is of course incomparable to the middle ground Tales has been taking. There's also the immense emphasis on character interaction and development woven into gameplay. My favorite FF is 9 followed by 6 then 7 and while Ive never been all that into Tales it isn't cringe for someone to feel the way they do since there are actual arguments one could make
This is like the Dragon Quest XI S for the Tales series. The best of the series, an ultimate love letter. Very good and definitely worth the money! Can’t wait to get back to it.
@@TheOnlyHeero everyone is entitled to their opinions but we can agree that the game is a good step forward for the franchise. Perhaps some minor faults can be improved upon in future titles.
@@SouthBayLA1310 You mean get to the core story and combat? Based off previous Tales games the first 4-6 hours are really introductory and then build from there and become much more interesting both combat and story wise.
You really sound like you were enjoying this one, Jake. I was curious to see this installment's reception, but it seems it's a must buy. Its story reminds me a little the plot of Star Ocean as well
They're pretty cool, the combat system is awesome. It's like a hybrid between turn based and real time action. Movement and moves cost a certain amount of points(in the older ones anyway) so you have to strategize what you're doing a bit, which can lead to some really awesome combos. Graces F and Xillia are great, slightly more dated obviously.
Berseria was the last one and by far my favorite, I'm sure I'll enjoy Arise as I love all the games in the series but Berseria set such a high benchmark for me that Arise is going to have to be very special to take the top spot from it. I just really liked that you played as anti-heroes in Berseria where most of the cast was in some way a little evil and did things none of the heroes from previous games would think of doing even if they inevitably took down a greater evil than themselves. They were basically the Deadpool of traditionally melodramatic JRPG's.
Edit: This comment now makes no sense since I mixed the games up. Still the basic idea that most of the Tales games are linked but are perfectly playable without playing the others still stands. You just miss out on in jokes and some fun lore bits. I know I'm coming across as a fanboy because I've mentioned it so often but if you liked Zestiria I strongly recommend Berseria. Not just because it's my favorite in the series but also because it's directly related to Zestiria and while it's in not a traditional prequel there are still major events and characters that you met in Zestiria who are party members in Berseria.
@@Road_to_Dawn Yeah I realized that after I laid down but since I'm on my phone no edit button. But yes you're correct. .... Edit: hey look, I was wrong again. Fixed :p
Tales of Vespeira has got to be my favorite. I’ll be getting this for sure though! I have played many of the tales games and this will be something fresh and new ✌️
Gotta say... this review convinced me to buy this game last week and I've been absolutely loving it. This is my first time playing a Tales game ever. This one reminds me of Dragon Quest in a way. The characters are great and the story as well. If you're on the fence about this pick it up! So worth the money.
Started with Tales of Xillia, which to this day is still my favorite Tales gave with its Link system and split story. Let's see if Arise can take the crown. Definitely looks promising.
Finally another Xillia fan. Xillia was also my introduction to the franchise and my personal favorite. I went back to play some of the others but so far the only other one that had me captivated was Vesperia
Xillia was my second Tales game, but it was the first one I felt invested in emotionally. My first one was Abyss and I enjoyed it, but a full console game is hard to beat. Lol
@@whisperviz1346 I'd be happy if they just made it digitally available for PS4. I miss the Xillia games so much. When I upgraded to the PS4, I was glad Zesteria at least was available on both systems.
Tales of Vesperia was my favorite, largely because it was the first Tales game I got to play with a friend in co-op. Disappointed they took co-op out of the series as it was really the only JRPG series that had that feature. Was looking forward to bonding over a new adventure. I'll probably still play this but it stings.
Yeah, I'll probably play this when it goes on sale. The big appeal of the Tales series for me was playing co-op; playing these games solo is okay, but I personally feel like I may as well go play a more satisfying single player action game like a Souls game. Doesn't mean I don't ever plan on playing it, but it's not a priority for me.
Game looks incredible. Bandai/Namco’s killing it for Action RPGs. I can see them pushing Elden Ring with a jaw-dropping gameplay trailer right before the preorders become available. Shoutout to Scarlet Nexus as well. Dope new IP.
The only one I Played was Tales of Symphonia on GameCube. It is one of my favorite games ever. The combat felt so fresh 20yrs ago. I tried Tales of Xillia 2 and Tales of Berseria but neither clicked for me and I ended up getting bored. So it's been a while thank you for the rec
I've played every Tales game. Prior to this my favorite was Tales of Vesperia which I played back on Xbox 360 strangely enough. I just finished playing Tales of Arise on the XBOX Series X and it has finally dethroned Vesperia for me. Excellent game. Absolutely worth the purchase.
I remember when I was like 11 or 12 I played Tales of Symphonia. It was my first Tales game, and it sucked me in! Me my grandma and my aunt all played for like 30 hours straight lol If it's still couch co op I'll have to get it
No multiplayer sadly but they put a lot of development in other areas as a result. I'm still super hyped for this entry even though my wife will have to play on her own tv 😹

The two worlds concept of this game is similar to Tales of Eternia, where one is more technologically advanced than the other and both have a history of destructive wars. I hope this one has a much deeper story though.
Two worlds are a staple of the series. Unfortunately, Arise does not stick the landing and it is on the short side and is very linear. The older games are also linear, but they do things in the older games to give the games a better sense of scale.
Symphonia, Xillia, Eternia, Phantasia, Graces, etc. Most Tales games use the 2 world concept to some extent. If you really want to stretch you could say that all of them use it as a base for their story telling.
i love the tales series. BandaiNamco nailed it again this time! been waiting to play this game since it was first announced... tried the demo a week ago and was mind blown by its sheer detail and gameplay. This proves single player JRPG game still rocks!
I hope you give it a chance. Imo tales have been absolute bangers for the last 5 entries. Good humor and skits great world building. Amazing combat. Tales > final fantasy and star ocean series imho
@@7th_Link Yeah I can understand not being able to afford it at full price in the current economy. Still that may just offer you a chance to play one of the last few games that no longer are selling at full price.
Tales basically stepped in to carry the torch for good classical (but innovative) JRPG standard with Symphonia, just as Final fantasy started to flop off after FFX.
As a long time Tales fan, it's great to see so many people excited to play this game. Hopefully, this does well sales-wise to motivate Namco to bring the japan only games west due to an increase in interest.
I've been a fan for 17 years and the hype for Arise is real! Love the excitment and the love the game is getting today, makes me happy cuz this series deserves the recognition 😭❤ Arise looking phenomenal and check all the list as an old fan while changing stuff for the best! Can't wait to start tomorrow!
@Lloydo Sama this was a very insightful and VERY appreciated comment. We are grateful that you were able to share such a touching story from your past, as well as really bringing clarity to the series as a whole. Thank you for sharing this experience!
Hey, I just wanted to say thanks for this video. I was on the fence about whether or not I should play this game for so long and this was the video that convinced me to play it. I got the platinum for the game over the Summer and just completed the recently released DLC expansion. Wasn’t expecting to put over 100+ hours in a game I was so unsure about whether or not I’d play, but here we are.
I am so addicted to this game! Since release, if I'm not working, sleeping, eating or at the gym on playing it, lol. The visuals are spectacular during the battles. I find myself going HOLY S**T! everytime a new attack prompt comes up 😆 I've played every tales games (except abyss, only made it halfway through it) and this is the first one where I want to learn and master every aspect of the battle system; not just play for the storyline and generally fun game play which is my usual MO.
Tales of Symphonia was my JAM! While I've played a few other Tales games, I didn't play much of them for whatever reason. So far everyone is recommending a buy for this one, and since its not coming to Game Pass on PC, I think I might buy my first full priced game all year for this one!
Have been playing this for about 10 hours now. It's great! :D My favorite Tales game is Symphonia (on Gamecube). It has the best characters, by far, and the combat system is pretty much identical with Arise. Only the later games made the combat system more turn based. Also, but gamecube version is running in 60 fps, compared PS3 and PC's stuttery 30fps! :D
Ordered this today since it was on sale. I played the demo and it seemed fun. Been missing out on lots and lots and lots of RPG’s. Thanks for the review.
WOW, I just ordered this game (at Best Buy) a little bit ago before watching this video… it’s gonna be my first “Tales of” game… I have played the demo tho, and ever since then I knew I needed it… it blew me away, and I can’t wait to get my hands on it and start playing through it and go on an EPIC journey with awesome characters… it’s gonna be so much fun… I’m so EXCITED!!!!!😁👌🏻💯 thx a lot Jake!👏🏻
Thanks for another great review jake like always I already bought the game I just enjoy the reviews I’ve actually been replying some of the tales games like xilla and symphonia in preparation 😂
I’ve never played the Tales series, but have always been aware of it. Love anime and action RPG’s, so this may have convinced me to dive in. Thanks Jake, still waiting on my pizza. ❤️
Been playing for hours and I can say that Arise is like the much needed Renaissance period after Zestiria plunged the series into the dark ages. The combat is great, equipment system is simplified again, storyline is interesting, and best of all there are no more bland empty corridors or fields.
"The story (plot) and gameplay take time to become good." Every anime watcher ever: And that's not... normal?? Basically, if you are into anime, the Tales series is just anime with gameplay... People not into anime may find the Tales series to be a tad bit overwhelming with the pacing, characters and dialogues. That's its identity at its core.
loved it, finished it. One of the more strongly written tales games imo. legendia was my first, but abyss was just in a league of its own back in the day and arise seems to have revamped the series. I'll play it on ng+ on the ps5 (if I actually get one)
My first Tales of series games was Tales of Symphonia, I played it on the Gameboy if not mistaken. It was alright for me, the second game was the Tales of the Abyss. It was then I was hooked, it just had awesome storyline, character progressions, good combat systems and a big world to explore. Till this day I really wish that they would make a sequel for Tales of the Abyss.
This is one of the most important games to come out this last year. Maybe in the last couple years. Weather people realize that or not because of the style of game it is, is up to them. But it truly is.
To be honest the game is an anime itself. It have a wonderful story, great Characters with each great personalities. It has also a great backstory in each characters, the atmosphere is good, The maps and the feeling of being in their group not physically but mentality. lastly a wonderful ending.
The past few titles have been hit or miss, but one thing that's always improving is the combat mechanics. The ways you can customize all your directional inputs alongside your abilities makes for some very flashy combos (especially so in Bersaria) so I'm looking forward to this.
Berseria is awful i just dont understand why it's considered good. Played 15 hours plus and it's so bland...this is why i'm hesitating on this new tales of
Love the game. But as a returning fam of the franchise I feel 1 of the biggest missteps they made with Arise is he removal of a couch Co-op feature. Most of the older games had a 2-4 player in combat playstyle (the number depending on the max active party available)
Bro this took a minute when you talked abt this being apart of the tales series. Legit I was like "tales series?" "WAIT THE ACTUAL TALES SERIES" I was extremely surprised to hear that they made a new game.
Its a D+ or 3/10 for me. The writing is so redundant, theres so much reiterating what’s already happened, the shared cp pool is silly and there should have been more ways to heal small amounts if cp through gameplay rather than just gels or resting. Music is eh, the character models for the skits feel soulless and robotic. It feels too much like it’s purposefully watered down and styled to fit a more western demographic, which i guess worked? Idk it had its moments but it goes for melodramatic flash over actual substance.
I’ve been dying for another JRPG after Scarlet Nexus. Never played a Tales game before but this ones getting good reviews, and I need something to hold me over until Kena Bridge of Spirits. I’ll be picking this up this weekend!
This game didn't seem like something I would like. I'd never played a tales game. I took a chance on it and I gotta say I love it. The story is very good, the gameplay and combat is fun, and the characters are absolutely great

Can’t WAIT for Friday to spend my days away on this. Berseria tore at my heat strings so I need the fix 😭 PS please give me Velvet As the post game content crossover boss 🙌🏽
Just finished my first play through today! Great game. Positives: characters, voice acting, character arcs, story, dialogue (especially with the story details, characters would over-explain which helped me), combat, visuals. Not “negatives” but things that kept it from being perfect (for me): 1. Some of the dialogue dragged on - it could be a lot at once, especially if you want to listen to EVERYTHING. 2. Speaking of dialogue, I felt a heavy focus on the…… “current state of the world” at times. But if you can separate it in your mind, no biggie. 3. Monsters in the field were recolored through the whole game. 4. The characters saying their damn moves EVERY TIME OMGGG. It got muddy during boss fights. 5. I wish there was more post-game content. Other than that, I REALLY enjoyed it!!
The 2 biggies for me were the linear and short travel between realms kept throwing me out of it being an "adventure" and the 3rd Act exposition dumps are painfully long when listening to everything.
My favourite thing about the artstyle is when the camera zooms into a character's face, their eyebrows and border of their eyes looks like they've been painted on with water colors. It cute and I love it :)
I played the entire game as Rinwell (when I could) once I got her and had a blast. I like that each character has a special combat strategy. I did big elemental damage.
My first Tales game was Graces F. Then I played Xilla 1+2. Loved the hell out of Berseria, but didn't like Zestiria that much. And now I'll be picking this up in a few hours. Can't wait!
I bought it yesterday and haven't been able to stop playing. This game is so good. Lots of things to do and to collect like outfit, weapon and materials to craft gears. Really good game.
I'm surprised there's no mention of the constant, relentless chatting and sound effects during battles. There's so much noise going on in the battles I've seen in reviews that I don't know if I'll be able to put up with it.
I am typically pretty hard on JRPGs and RPGs in general. That being said, I love this game. I saw some previews a few months ago and was interested, then I got the other two Tales games from a friend of mine in a discord. Just so I could get the feel. This one is even better than those ones. It really is a fun game.

@@Awestruckhero21 Ive never finished one lol Symphonia on game cube was my first

I started with tales of graces f but my brother had tales of symphonia 2 and our cousin had tales of symphonia and I haven't looked back
I'd highly recommend people try the other tales games too. It's such a fun franchise, and one of the few RPGs that supports couch coop with up to 4 characters. My first was tales of the abyss on the ps2. Personally my favorite are tales of berseria and tales of vesperia.

I'd recommend Berseria over Vesperia honestly but eh, everyones got an opinion and nobody is wrong for having it. I just enjoyed that you weren't traditional heroes in Berseria which they have usually been in the Tales series.
I recommend you play Tales of Bersia, and Tales of Vesperia after playing Arise :)

Just started this based on your review. Gotta say, I'm only a couple hours in and I LOVE it. Everything is so grandiose - the story, the music, the scope of everything. I've been searching for a new RPG to really sink my teeth into, and I think this is it.

After looking over the comments I find it stunning how many people have never played a Tales game before. Tales of the Abyss and Tales of Berseria have been my favorite Tales games so far. It looks like this game might become one of my favorites too!
Never even heard of the series before.
Although, for Tales of Arise, I'm genuinely interested in checking it out because it actually looks good.
jc9622 i thought the same until I actually tried it, they’re definitely far from cheap imo. Tales of vesperia is the one that got me hooked
Berseria had my favorite Tales story. Really good
This entire series is amazing, some really great storylines and many memorable characters.
Man my first introduction to the tales of series is Symphonia and my favorite game is abyss but it’s good to see new people being introduced to the tales of series
I seen you before.
Sorry bud but others have been playing the tales series b4 u so ur not special.
My first was the Abyss remake on the 3ds and I was blown away like where did this random game come from lol
Same my first was also Symphonia back in 2004. Played every tales game since it's cool to so many more people paying attention to it this time lol
EVERYWHERE MAN your everywhere like how i am.
It’s a buy from me then! This game has been on my radar since it was announced so I’m glad to see it’s worth the pick up for you guys!

Virginity💀😂
I only played tales of symphonia missed the other ones
Dude, you NEED to finish Vespiria, right up there with Symphonia as the best.
@@LordFinkenstein I heard about that game a lot will definitely check it out
Berseria was my favorite but now Arise is likely going to be my new favorite.
From all of the games I have played, Velvet has the best development as a character. By the end of the game she was a completely different person then the monster that was thrown in prison.
@@Awestruckhero21 Yup sure was.
@@ZandatsuGaming How tf is that a bad ending tho lol. It made sense and fit really well
Man I've just finished this game and loving every minute of it. This game feels more final fantasy than the actual final fantasy made by square enix.

@@thishandleistacken right? There have been 15 main entries and like 20 others, which ff are they talking about? Lol. Not to mention there hasn’t been a single ff made in this cell-shaded anime art style. So confused
Cringe...

You really sound like you were enjoying this one, Jake. I was curious to see this installment's reception, but it seems it's a must buy. Its story reminds me a little the plot of Star Ocean as well
It s heavy inspired by Star Ocean. You can swap the Title and still remain a coherent game.
I’ve actually never heard of these games, but I’m exited to try it
They're pretty cool, the combat system is awesome. It's like a hybrid between turn based and real time action. Movement and moves cost a certain amount of points(in the older ones anyway) so you have to strategize what you're doing a bit, which can lead to some really awesome combos.
Graces F and Xillia are great, slightly more dated obviously.
I would also recommend tales of vesperia
Berseria was the last one and by far my favorite, I'm sure I'll enjoy Arise as I love all the games in the series but Berseria set such a high benchmark for me that Arise is going to have to be very special to take the top spot from it. I just really liked that you played as anti-heroes in Berseria where most of the cast was in some way a little evil and did things none of the heroes from previous games would think of doing even if they inevitably took down a greater evil than themselves. They were basically the Deadpool of traditionally melodramatic JRPG's.
You are in for a treat.

The last Tales game I played was Vesperia and I loved it. Really wanna play another Tales again.

Gotta say... this review convinced me to buy this game last week and I've been absolutely loving it. This is my first time playing a Tales game ever. This one reminds me of Dragon Quest in a way. The characters are great and the story as well. If you're on the fence about this pick it up! So worth the money.
So after 95+ hours playing this game.... still gotta say so worth the money. It has turned into one of my favorite games I've played recently.

Lol
I would love this on a handheld someday.
I hope they bring Xilia to PC someday.
I don't play PS3 so I missed the Xillia.
I think Ys series has coop too, or at least VIII did

Was really curious about this game since I loved Vesperia. Thanks for the episode 👍
The two worlds concept of this game is similar to Tales of Eternia, where one is more technologically advanced than the other and both have a history of destructive wars. I hope this one has a much deeper story though.
Also somewhat similar to Symphonia.
And Tales of Xillia 2 as well
Two worlds are a staple of the series.
Tales of Berseria was my first Tales games and I loved everything about it, specially the story twists. Looking forward to play Tales of Arise soon.

Tales basically stepped in to carry the torch for good classical (but innovative) JRPG standard with Symphonia, just as Final fantasy started to flop off after FFX.

Every anime watcher ever: And that's not... normal??
Basically, if you are into anime, the Tales series is just anime with gameplay... People not into anime may find the Tales series to be a tad bit overwhelming with the pacing, characters and dialogues. That's its identity at its core.
hey, do you have a recommendation of an anime that you watched and liked recently?

Just finished my first play through today! Great game.
Positives: characters, voice acting, character arcs, story, dialogue (especially with the story details, characters would over-explain which helped me), combat, visuals.
Not “negatives” but things that kept it from being perfect (for me):

I'm surprised there's no mention of the constant, relentless chatting and sound effects during battles. There's so much noise going on in the battles I've seen in reviews that I don't know if I'll be able to put up with it.

Yeah it sucks but That’s just a constant thing througout the tales series, I know that’s not an excuse but yeah
Maybe there will be a mod on PC. I am hoping for one that makes them all meow instead.
I don't bother hearing "sword rain" or " tidal wave " for another thousand times
That's a staple of the series tbh. While I don't particularly care much (I always set music to loudest) I can definitely see it becoming annoying.
I am typically pretty hard on JRPGs and RPGs in general. That being said, I love this game. I saw some previews a few months ago and was interested, then I got the other two Tales games from a friend of mine in a discord. Just so I could get the feel. This one is even better than those ones. It really is a fun game.
I started with Tales of Abyss and I've purchases about 6 other tales games, including Arise. It's a great series and Arise has been very enjoyable so far for me, ten hours in.
