I feel the Alphen and Shionne relationship early on makes sense, and it doesn't make it hard, just could see why they are what they are. And I feel it's like a real life relationship at an uncanny alliance.
From what little I have played of the game (about 16 hours into the story with sidequests and grinding.) Shionne has her moments but especially in Cyslodia... man she is at her worst there. Which I guess is good for the story but I could not stand her interaction with everyone there. I wanted her to just tumble down a cliff side and shut up. Also I dont find the "cat" (more like lion) fighting between her and Rinwell at all in that chapter. Suffice it today though. The interactions during their time getting a feel for each other in the Greens area is nice.
Yeah, too bad they waste Shionne by not giving her a proper backstory and making her inconsistent as a result. Her story begins when she meets Alphen. And it would've been fine if she had no goal or if her goal didn't imply she cared about other people all along. Problem is, based on what we know she never experienced any kind of compassion, love or affection before. Heck, even Dohalim gets a couple cutscenes so we can see where he's coming from.

I have never played any Tales game but watching this makes me wanna buy this game now haha. On the other hand, this game has most of all the elements I love in an open-world game, jam-packed.
This is my favorite of all the Tales games I have played. I do wish it had multiple ends depending on some factors such as sidequests and winning some story scripted fights after a NG+. Because I would of totally made sure that one character was dead if given an option. Always go for the overkill.
I will be the first to state that this was a tremendous review based upon the amount of time and effort that you placed into the game exploring the world the story itself and the all-around gameplay mechanics that built this wonderful system as a tails fanatic myself I would like to tip my hat and salute to you my good sir to say thank you for this phenomenal review of the new game tales of arise I look forward to you continuously creating wonderful contents such as this in the future
Bruh all other reviews are talking about story and characters feelings as if that stuff ain't subjective. Your review gave a full in depth character analysis and gameplay mechanics break down which is what I was looking for. You earned a sub. I just have one question. In the demo when I wanted to use special attacks that weren't mapped to my keys, I had to pause the game and had to select them from the menu screen. It broke the flow of combat. Is the issue still prevailing?
I didn't try the demo to see what it was like, but you can remap all your skills. Eventually you'll get more slots, so you should be able to set all the skills you need. I don't think I ever needed to use a skill from the menu while playing the full game, I only did that for items.
The first set of 3 skills are mapped to the default face buttons (X, O, etc), but if you hold L2 you can use the other 3 skills. (This unlocks a few hours into the game though)

This is first game in years that I’ve played where I don’t want to stop playing. It’s been SOOO long since I’ve played a game and couldn’t stop playing. It’s been so long since I’ve stayed up all night just binging a game. For so long I’ve just been bored with games. I’m so happy to finally have a game that I want to play all day long again. This game is awesome.
I'm so excited to play it. I to have been craving a game that I can become hooked on like old times. Last time I stayed up playing games all night was horizon zero dawn and God of War.
Dang, what a awesome break down of the game. One of the best reviews of any video game I have watched. Going to watch more of your reviews in the future!
Very informative and well-structured review! The game's on sale right now on Steam and I was uncertain whether to get it (even though I quite enjoyed some of the older Tales games) because the reviews on there are quite mixed, but this video convinced me to get it.^^
I'm actually shocked how good the english voice over is.i started playing six hours in Japanese but felt I couldn't focus on the good scenes so I started over just to see the English va and was and its great.when I heard futaba played shione I was like idk bit she actually sounds different...ray chase is good bit he needs to learn a new voice...this is noctis all the way lol but great so far
If there's any issue with the voices it's not with the VAs themselves or even the writing (this time...some past Tales games writing for dialogue could be meh at times...haven't met that so far in Arise after getting to the 4th region) but at times, usually the start or end of the sentence, when a character talks there's this brief sound of the mic kinda being cut off or being muffled frequently...my guess is it's likely due to some scenes being done in the VA's own homes with somewhat sub par equipment and a bit less audio editing that the Tales games usually gets due to Covid concerns (many devs mentioned they did stuff like this for some of their games made after the virus outbreak, most likely reason the game was delayed too). The VAs acting and voices however were solid (granted...some of Law's more high pitched dialogue gets annoying/headache inducing...something i usually only encounter with child characters in Tales/other jrpgs).
@@ifrit1937 ya I thought the voices were good.im gonna eventually replay in Japanese fully.the English va lip synch is based on the Japanese lip synch so it looks really off sometimes
Wow Ign has really lowered my expectations on reviews. Currently playing it on hard, about to take on the wicked witch, you covered literally everything with very little in the way of spoilers. Impressive
I do enjoy the dynamic of the sword only being wielded by Alfen. It seems esoteric in its symbolic portrayal of natural law & the divine feminine/masculine. Both aspects being needed for childbirth etc.
wow this is the first time that I see the face behind that voice. I used to think that you would look like Kratos! Love the content, I am loving this game to death.
A great review, although I already knew from the moment it was announced that I was gonna get it, still like seeing other people’s thoughts on it. Still deciding if I want to get it for PC or ps5
I rarely play anything on PS5, but playing Arise snapped the adaptive trigger on R2. It still works, but it's loose now and sticks at times. You'll need R2 to dodge or sprint on the field. So if you have a more durable controller on PC, go for that lol
@@HavianCritDmg I was just worried if there would be any technical issues on PC but I’ll probably take my chances and just go for it because the adaptive triggers are cool but I don’t like them on all the time haha
I had a blast with this game haven't had this much fun with the combat since Xilla 2, though there's only one problem I had (semi-spoilers) The giant boss battles just being purely add fights
Yeah, i played the demo and found it a special effects mess and I couldnt make out whats going on and what my character was doing at all so it gave the title a miss
Absolutely great review. I was very much on the fence with this game. With your breakdown of all the systems in place, I am excited. I am a little disappointed in the lack of coop. I really enjoyed that aspect, but I am super stoked to see the direction they go with it. Thank you for your review, instant sub, and your voice and cadence are fantastic.
Shit! I just realized where I know Alphen's voice from! He's voiced by Ray Chase and if you've played Final Fantasy XV then you'll recognize him as the voice of Prince Noctis! How awesome. I knew that voice was important to me for some reason but I couldn't place it for the longest time. Ray Chase has had a pretty career in voice acting spanning titles like My Hero Academia: Two Heroes (2018,) Malignant (2021,) One Punch Man, Mobile Suit Gundam Thunderbolt: December Sky (2016,) Doki Doki: PreCure (2013-2014,) and a lot more.
Heya Havian long time no see. Your game review is really good one. If some IRL stuff settle down i definitely play this game. Good work there. See you later.

I knew shionne was familar. I def knew it was a Persona 5 chara. I can hear the futaba voice in some lines. Though it very different role. XD
Impressive
this is the complete review I was looking for, thanks!
Your script is very polished , smoith transition everywhere 😂
Love this early in-depth review after 100 hours of play! Really appreciate.
I do enjoy the dynamic of the sword only being wielded by Alfen. It seems esoteric in its symbolic portrayal of natural law & the divine feminine/masculine. Both aspects being needed for childbirth etc.
I loved you professionalism in this few friend. Great job
Awesome I can't wait to play
By far the best review for this game i have watched, and one that help make the decision that this one is for me.
100% worth the like and subscribe
You sir, have a future in narration/anything that requires an articulate and pleasing voice.
the game is awesome and your voice is incredible!
wow this is the first time that I see the face behind that voice. I used to think that you would look like Kratos! Love the content, I am loving this game to death.
I loved how much they pulled from tales of destiny for this game too
First time watching one of your videos. I really dig your voice. Subscribed and bought the game. Thanks!
I'm leaning PS5.
@@kylerobinson6102 ending up getting it for PC after all, I’m really enjoying the game a lot
im playing on pc and its a great port
An epic face to an epic voice!
I had a blast with this game haven't had this much fun with the combat since Xilla 2, though there's only one problem I had (semi-spoilers)
The giant boss battles just being purely add fights
Yeah, i played the demo and found it a special effects mess and I couldnt make out whats going on and what my character was doing at all so it gave the title a miss
Havian is showing us the pro strat of fishing with Kisara
Aww, little Rinwell in her school uniform was cute!
Soothing voice, i already have the game but listened to all of this anyways 🤣 keep it up dude 👍
Nice review I'll keep an eye this one for somewhere down the road. Thanks for the video.
The best review that I've seen for this game. Thanks for sharing your thoughts with us.
amazing video you really put alot of time and effort and it show amazing really enjoyed this Hav definitely looking forward to more..... it's so nice to see someone that plays the game with genuine hours put into it amazing review.
im so happy for this review I was hesitate in purchasing this title but this made my choice easier thank you
You have gained a new sub. Very informative and story spoiler free.
