In this video I re-deck, add new lights, add D-rings, change the stabilizer jacks, and upgrade the wiring on my 14,000 lbs car trailer.
Doing IT Dan’s Way
Daniel Woodell
Hey Daniel, Nice Job Replacing the Wooden Deck, Light housing, new LED Lights & Installing the Jack & D Rings.
I have a Kaufman 18 footer Car Hauler with Tandem Axels & a Diamond Plated Steel Deck.
Now that you have Nice new Wood on your Trailer; Don't forget to maintain it by Power Washing the Deck & Staining it every other year to maintain the look & preserve the wooden deck.
I also have the underside of my Trailer Rust Proofed Sprayed every other year to prevent it from rusting.
To avoid spraying Rust Proof, I am contemplating spraying the underside with Bed liner Paint. This stuff is Indestructible!
Thanks for taking the time to share your Video.
The way you flexed the boards in was genius, you made it look 10 times easier than the other videos i watched, my trailer is a lot smaller than yours so the boards wont flex that easily but i wanted to commend you on how easily you get your steps through to the viewer and how simple the whole job seems, thank you!
That opening scene edit was perfect, so creative! I have only seen that once before, but it does not compare to your finely tuned edit skills. Bravo man I am amazed.
Primative_Creator I thought they were twins. Lol
Yeah that was nice effect. I was like twins. Nawl. Wtf..... ohhh. Lol
Primative_Creator I
How did you do that
@@guardinoinc.7490 imagine the video being cut into 3 sections, 3 videos playing side by side, but since the camera was in the exact same spot you can't tell there are multiple videos playing next to each other. the only thing the subjects have to do is not cross that imaginary section
You can't power a winch off the pigtail itself but add a battery to the trailer and the pigtail will charge the battery for the winch while the truck is hooked up. Another thing I did was mounted a switch and relay up to my winch battery that activates the trailer brakes while loading heavy equipment that keeps the trailer from surging back and forwards, especially helpful on 2wd trucks and it works like a charm to keep that stress off of the trucks parking brakes and also the parking pawl if an auto.
Great video Daniel. Even 4 years later. ;-) You have a new sub!
The intro tripped me out I was like yo how many of these dudes going to walk out 🤣🤣
I am also in Western WA and just got my LX2610. Just wantd to let know I really appreciate all of your videos... I'm near shelton, hope I get to meet you sometime. thx again and keep them coming!
Great effects on the intro. Good information. I am in the process of getting a trailer for my new tractor, and your experience was helpful. I could show you the importance of getting fasteners that are rated for treated wood, especially the newer formula treated wood. When I rebuilt my deck, the original screws were less than 1/16: diameter when they were replaced. The chemicals dissolved the fastener. I also used trailer deck screw similar to the ones you used, except in stainless. I did not have good luck with them, but yours worked much better. Thanks for the referral.
Great idea on running weld to take up the slop. I was very under impressed when I installed mine at how wobbly they were. I'm gonna do that trick.
The intro made me keep watching for the ideas on upgrades you made.
At first I thought ok “ WTF” is going on. Took me a moment. Great job
Very clever way to bend the boards for the trailer.
Great intro.this is exactly what I plan on doing to my trailer. Very cool the way you I installed center boards
It's always great when the missus is willing to assist!
I love the way you edited it to make it seem like you were multiple people and you were listening to each other talk.
Nice upgrades on the trailer !
I enjoyed your video, thank you for sharing
7:00 Shout out to all our lady friends... Where would we be with our projects if it weren't for their extra set of hands?
nice job! Just bought my first car-hauler, which needs the mods you just showed. Thank you. Subscribed and LIKED.
That opening scene was mint bud!
I was like this guy better pop up a third time! Nice into!
Awesome beginning!
Great modifications. I will be welding a trailer with my everlast welder from scratch. These are some great modifications I might incorporate.
Great upgrades. One can never have enough tie down hooks. Also just a tip, to keep those stabilizer jacks working perfectly use lots and lots of lube on them. My tongue jack that was just like that took a crap because of not lubing it regularly.
Great job my brother!!
Good job. Keep it up
Dude!! That’s was an awesome intro!
Very nice job guys, I will be starting a redo on my trailer I built in 2008, I'm doing some mods and a repaint, I also would like to help explain the screws you used, these types of screws and sizes are my favorite to use, I did notice the way you explained the size of the screws that you used, to help to explain a little better, as listed on your screw box it reads, 1/4-20X3" this means that the screws are 1/4" in diameter - 20 means that there are 20 threads per inch - and 3 as you know is the screws are 3 inches long. the bigger the middle number is, it's the same rule if it says 8, 24, 32, or whatever that number is, it still means threads per inch, I hope this helps. Thanks for the video Kudoes
Something that most people don't realize is that you don't have to bend the boards to install them. The majority of wood deck trailers have a stitch welded strap over the boards on one end or the other. All you have to do is cut those welds, take the strap off and then weld it back on after you lay the boards in place.
With three people this should have been quick and easy! Nice job creating those body doubles.
Bravo, you did a great job! You are more patient than me lol!
Excellent !!!
The editing in the beginning was on point
Thanks
That was a good video. Looking forward to seeing the rest of your projects.
Very Good Video!
Your intro was amazing
Great job, great video. Thank you for posting
I'm definitely amazed by how you edited that video
love your editing, great job
Lack of welding skill?
About as nice of a weld as I have ever seen.
Now subscribing. 👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks i appropriate it.
Hey I don’t know if you will see this but I just saw your video and it blow my mind for a quick sec how you started the video of 3 of you. I really like that. And also your weld work is really good.
justridding421 Thank you, I appreciate you watching!
Daniel Woodell I wish I knew how to do that. With the video editing. Also if I was close to you I would see if you wanted to do some welding for me. Also.
Good lookin welds 💪🏼💪🏼
this intro is ahead of its time
Great job!
What size was the Lincoln welder. It looked like a really good welder. Was that a gas or flux core. I guess that's what you would call it. Excellent job on the welding great beads.
Nah you could of put the grinding and prepping in, me and my friends fully enjoy learning from you. We watch a lot of diy videos and yours are at the top because of your personality, u have alot of tools, talent, knowledge, etc...and your not egotistical about.
Well beads look fine, as long as you got good penetration. Cosmetics are secondary. You want welds for show and best penetration then tig. Nice vid and great post production.
I used to weld a bunch of d-rings on my trailers. then I just put D-rings that slide into the stake pockets and just put a bunch of stake pockets on trailers now
Got less than 2 mins in and gave it a thumbs up. Nice Editing.
Thanks
Great video production ;)
Awesome video with the mutli-takes. Works well!
Love the cloning in the intro.
Great improvements on the trailer, but why did you choose to put the new deck on first ?
Seems that it would have smarter if you stripped the old deck off, performed all steel mods, touch ups and paint, then put the new deck on last.
A much easier way to put your boards on is to cut the three tack welds at the back and take the retaining bracket off. Then lay your boards out and replace the retaining bracket and weld back in place. Keep you from having the jack up and bend each board into place.
Nice intro by the way.
i always cut the front retainer out and replace it with angle drill 2 doles in the angle and the trailer and weld nuts to the trailer to bolt the angle to makes it so much easier to replace the decking i do this to every trailer i buy weather it needs decking or not
Im glad i wasnt stoned, i woulda flipped out
Pretty cool how you did that shoot on the trailer! Instant subscribe for that! I enjoy your content thanks
I also put the trailer support jacks on the rear sides but ran into an unexpected problem 1 day. Went to let them down n crank handle was missing on 1 side. Had to replace jack (Not cheap) A simple $1 bungee cord hooked onto handle, wrapped around jack & other end hooked back to handle keeps handle from hanging down & getting torn off or catching on anything. Simple, cheap fix. Works for me & might for someone else. Jacks are hard to put down w/o a handle. ;-)
Great video, all you forgot was the glitter.
That is a 10k trailer, i have also seen d rings welded to the side of the tube, rip the tube apart, we weld a 1/4'' plate to the tube and then weld d ring on, usually on the top of the tube. Nice trailer and good work!
great video, Xlnt job on the welds. great idea on swapping out the front 7pin harness those are always the first thing to go haywire since they get the most use in and out and thrown around when unplugging. fyi , your not going to run a winch off the extra power wire in the plug though, too small of gauge to handle a winch.
Just hit the point where he starts unloading the new deck boards, and all I can think is...why have the old lady help unload when you've got 2 perfectly good clones at the ready? 🤔
Love the video game theme music
Dude, I can save you a shit ton of time and hassel next time you redeck a trailer.
On one end of the trailer (usually the front) will have C channel to hold the lumber. On the other end it will be made from 90° angle iron with flat bar stitch welded across the top of the deck boards.
Next time cut the flat bar welds, set the boards in and weld the flat bar back on to the angle iron.
Yup in retrospect it would have been a lot easier to cut that end plate off, Most of the videos I wanted did it the way I did,
but I think that because most of those guys did not have a welder.
Kickass intro
I have rebuilt a few trailers, it always works better to do all the welding and new wiring BEFORE installing the new deck. Access is better, welds don't scorch the decking. Otherwise, nice job.
Nice bead on the welds
Plasma cutter for the win!
gave a thumbs up just because of that intro without watching the whole video
What type of wood did you use and what type of tires do you have on that trailer?
Another great video as usual, keep up the great work. And if you ever think of replacing that trailer, check out Butler trailers, very high quality trailers near you.
Nice!!
Is that your wife? She shouldn't help if there's 3 of u 😂😂
I'm looking at building my car trailer so thanks for the tips👌
Good video bro keep it up.
Welder ground cable attached to a magnet, Genius!
Nice editing brother... lol
Good video my trailer the side Chanel’s are reversed and the wood is held down with carriage bolts and I do like the jacks on the back my trailer on the ramps have legs on them and they are the pits thanks for the good ideas
Did you add a License Plate Light?
Man nice work on the intro bad ass a couple of things I want to add 1 you spend a good amount of time making sure things were done right and you blown all that nice wiring sky high with those scotch connectors at least get some butt connectors that have the heat shrink build in to the they cost just a little bit more but will save you a crap load of time later by having all of your lights working like there supposed to 2 do not try and run a winch on that extra wire you now have a wench is going to pull way to much thru that little wire however you can use that wire to charge a battery other than that great job and keep up the good work
Great vid, EXCEPT for using those stupid blue scotch lock wire things...Those deck screws are for treated wood because the treated wood will eat the other screws. It might have been easier to remove one end of the trailer, how the deck boards 'fit into' each lip then just weld it back on. But yea, great vid.
Bad ass, I am in the market for a tow trailer for my jeep. I lack the space to work something this size but it is super motivating to maybe not buy new and make a used one my own.
VERY GOOD EDITING
Don’t know how I got here But Lol that’s some nice editing.
Question about your taillights you got from eBay. Why did u swap the clear ones for red ones at the end?
they got me, nsver seen that effect before lol
nice job
Hej, That was good. Lets watch 8.3k subscribed. 1/4/19
Hi Dan,
Figured I would go back on comment on the very 1st video of yours I came across over this Thanksgiving holiday. I have really enjoyed your videos and have about watched all of them now over the last 3 days. You've got me inspired to go out into my big shop and run pex for my air compressor now. Just trying to do some more research now about what all I need and how I want to run it. Wish you were my neighbor! haha.
Just subscribed and did the notification thing to help you out the other day, glad to see a youtuber from the PNW. I am in Olympia myself, are you close? Hope you had a great Thanksgiving and look forward to watching your next video!

I see so many people beat the shit out of themselves and trailer deck because they don't look at the way things are built.
Wood deck trailers will have angle iron at one end of the boards. They then put the wood down and weld a strip of flat stock to the angle basically making it C channel.
Cut about 4~5 1" welds and your done.
What type of wood did you use?
you should let the wood shrink for a couple months before screwing down, staining or waterproofing.
You deserve one billion likes for the intro 😩😩😩😩😩
wish you lived close to Nashville, i'd bring you my derilict trailer to restore for me. i like the reason for a lot of the upgrades you did here*
You can save yourself a shit ton of time redecking next time.
Either the front or rear board keeper channel should be angle iron instead of C iron . Then after they put the wood deck on, they weld flat bar across the wood to hold it. You just have to grind off the stitch welds off and remove the flat stock, replace the boards and weld the bar back on.
don't be giving the ship away
Very nice! What software do you use to edit?
I use power director 14 , I wanted to switch over to Adobe Premier Pro however I don’t wanna pay the monthly subscription .
Dan what kind of editing software are you using. Great video's
I use Cyber link Power Director, because there is no subscription required you buy it once and its yours.
thank you sir very nice work
multiplicity? great video
Dean Flint thanks it was a fun video to make!
This video is much appreciated. I basically have the utility version of your trailer. Mine is an 18ft tandem Acker flatbed . I have the two ramps but have never loaded a car. I was wondering what what mods you might recommend and what would you think of some d-rings in the middle of the wheel wells? That seems to be the spot I always need an anchor point.
Thanks in advance for your time and reply.

This is an awesome channel! Do you plan on doing a review of your truck? I have been eyeing the new F250 with the 6.7 powerstroke.
Eric I know this is a year out but I would never buy another Ford again these new trucks are junk and the cost as much as a house it is a no brainier buy a house you will make money buy a truck drive it 10 years and it is done and ready for the junk yard now if you can find a 7.3 you will have a good one
How spring are made
Future reference. Pilot hole for self tapping fasteners/ or bolts as well
My trailer re-decking went a lot faster when I first drilled with a 3/16" pilot drill. I had a little different fasteners I got from Fa$tenall.
Yup even with the fasteners I used I really should have drilled a pilet hole. I really hope that I don’t have to referb that trailer again while I own it.
