BOYA BY M1 VS RODE LAVALIER GO

- In this video, I do an unscientific comparison between the Rode Lavalier Go and the BOYA BY M1. I noticed that the BOYA BY-M1 is slightly louder than the Rode Lavalier Go maybe because of the battery that the BOYA BY-M1 requires which may boost the sound a little bit, this can be good for cameras which have bad pre-amps like Canon cameras. The Rode Lavalier Go on the other hand sounds a little more full and premium compared to the BOYA BY-M1 but that doesn't mean that the BOYA BY-M1 is bad. Both of them are just two different lavalier microphones which can be good for different scenarios and uses! I hope you guys like this video! If you have any comments or questions, please comment down below and I will do with the best of my ability, answer or help! Thank you!

New Boya BY-MM1+ Microphone Review!
ruclips.net/video/aJZ6pOUHMhg/видео.html
Is Boya By-M1 good sounds for Rode Wireless Go for Osmo pocket? I like the BOya ByM1 less price and find it good...
Since you asked.. Yes there is a difference between the two. I've been listening on repeat through some inexpensive (but good) in ear headphones and this is what I think. The Boya sounds like it's lacking depth a little bit but has a more bass sound while the Rode one sounds like it has more dynamic range and a feeling of "depth" in the sound. I am no sound engineer I am just trying to explain what I hear. Also the Rode sounds "warmer". These are my humble observations.
Also I would like to note that because your video has many edits it made it difficult for me to follow the sound and also when the new frame was inserted there was an audible "click" in the sound that made it annoying and distracted me from listening. But that was because I listened to it several times very attentively. I hope you don't take this as bad criticism, only as a useful one.
Thank you so much for making this, it is very helpful.
Cheers!
The Rode is a little better but not 3x the price better. The cable on the Boya is a big plus. I'd opt for the Boya as it's results are very acceptable. Good video.
Finally a good comparison, thank you. Appreciate it.
Thanks, Miki! Do you mind subscribing to help expand the channel? Appreciate it!
After watching this, I believe that it all comes down to your effort in the post processing part.
Rode seems more balanced but could use a bit more gain and tweaking to get some “oomph” on the bass.
Boya is quite decent with a bit of distortion. My suggestion will be to fix it in post processing or place the mic slightly further or with thicker shield / filter.
Good review! This helped me make my decision.
Thanks for your input! I agree, post processing can do a lot, specially to audio! Maybe you can give the other people here some basics with what to do within Premiere Pro! Thanks, Meor Hariz!
Nice comparison!
Also had a lot of fun saying Boya BY m1 microphone in a video 😀
Nice review that really offers an objective and no-nonsense comparison Mark! For me the Rode Lavalier Go picks up less background noise and the EQ sounds much fuller especially on the Mids, whilst the Boya BY-M1 sounds thinner in comparison. However, when you factor into the price point and what you are paying for, the Boya BY-M1 is a much more attractive option in terms of value for money.
It's not true. If u serious about your audio production u should go with the better one & pay more. It's like u say i prefer cheaper camera for third of the price of a much much better camera...
Content was good. Couple of suggestions...
There is a lot of clicky audio at the joins, and sometimes the pauses are too short, making it feel jumpy. Try to cut a little less out between sentences, and do it at an audio zero crossing or with a crossfade.
Thankfully the volume isnt too different between these mics, but you SHOULD alter settings between mics when comparing- its important that sound sources are at the same listening volume when evaluating quality or it favours whichever is louder.
Also when comparing mics it would be good to try to reduce the fan noise in the room if you can (noise rejection IS a useful test in itself, but having it always there obscures the finer points of the microphones)
Seems like the Rode is using more of the midrange frequency and the Boya is moving towards bass and makes it just a tad bit muddy but only noticeable when using headphones and not my speakers. Doesn't seem like you can go bad with either of them and I think I am going to go with the Boya. I have less bass in my voice so I think I can save a little more money with this one over the Rode. Thanks for the video!
straight to the point, nice video!
With BOYA BY M1 your voice is much clearer and takes closer.
Muka bro mmg 100% melayu siot. Hahah good review btw.

Thanks for sharing and nice video!
Nice video comparison.
Glad you enjoyed it
good comparison. thanks.
You're very welcome! Please subscribe!
Thank you, Mark, that helped a lot. If you have some shoot on external area, it would be nice to hear how Boya performs in this scenario.
I think the Rode audio is better. But they should have given at least 2 meters in the cable length.
Boya BY-M1 Works on Desktop Computer (PC) but only using battery. else no sound will be detected on the PC. If you have a hybrid(audio in & out) port on your laptop, it may work directly, without battery.
Boya sounded best. I use them all the time here in Saigon, cheap to replace if they get water damage from our monsoons ... I have bought 6, 4 have survived over 2 years.
thanks for the info....have a nice day
You're welcome, Mohammad! Stay safe and take care!
The sound of the Rode is more balanced en more pleasant. But not cheap.
Hi... Thanks for your review. How would you say the Boya performs outdoors?
Hey, Lijo! The Boya performs well outdoors, just make sure you put the mic capsule under your shirt to make sure the shirt acts like a windshield.
@@markfriday - Thanks Mark. Appreciate your reply!
The Rode is somewhat diminished with a different harmonic overtone more EEEE sound if you will. The BOYA has more overtones and a little livelier. For the money it seems the BOYA is a good learning mic.
Hey, Lawrence! I agree! The Boya is definitely the go-to bang for buck! Thanks for your input!
Good video. Thanks man

Does Boya require a battery even when connected to a PC? Or will it just record quieter but still good enough?
Hi, camelCased! The battery is only required to be powered on when using it with cameras. Although I haven't tried removing it to see if it will work or not without it.
1:26 3:35 do i just have really sensitive ears do yall hear the white noise (?) when the rode lav go is recording?
I noticed it with both, but more with the Rode, which isn't encouraging because it's quieter and needs the volume boosted more, which will bring that white noise up louder. It also sounds like he possibly has a fan running
Nice review bro. 👌
Thank you for your support, bro! What kind of content would you like to see on this channel in future videos? Please let me know, thanks!
More video editing. 👌😎
Man im commenting just because i really think ill help you do not repeat de entire model name every time, refer to them as boya or rode after saying what are the models and also de lavalier by lav and microphone for mic, boya lav mic and rode lav mic, it is really distracting to hear you say the full names and just annoying.
This might come of as a bit harsh but it really is a honest help tip because i liked you content.
Stay well :D
Not harsh at all, Bruno! Thank you so much for giving your honest opinion! People like you make people like me grow even more by giving feedback! Thank you so much, buddy!

To me, oddly, the Rode sounds muddier and picks up more white noise, despite being quieter. I listened through phone speaker, and Sennheiser headphones. Same.
Nice bro very informative video especially for me, dreaming to have an external microphone in my canon m50. Now I know what microphone should i buy with a inexpensive price.. Thanks.. Can you make a tutorial bro about what are the main equipments to buy as filmmaker just like you, since I'm currently starting also to make videos.. :) Hihi Thanks in advanced bro 😂😊😁👍👌
Thank you for your support, Andrew! As for your video request, I will try to make a video on it this coming February! Stay tuned!
I don't know if its in your budget but an external audio recorder like the zoom h1n is very useful

Thank you for your support, Lea!
just ordered the Moya, thanks :)
Moya vs Mode :)))))
@Street Treasure lol, Boya!!
@@gandalf94013 Roya vs Bode...sounds great..but i think Bode is better :))))
Can we use Boya mic in PC? Thanks for the video
Yes you can 👍🏻
@@princegaming5252 Thanks Mate
Boya M1 has higher sound distortion at high freq. Rode more clean distortion
Thank you so much for your input and for being part of the community!
Agreed, the Rode sounds clearer and more solid. I believe the built quality for using it often is better.
I like the Boya sound. And for the lavalier you won't go with any singing etc. So for speaking I'm getting the Boya! Booya!
goat
Hi sir i have a question... If the battery last for 700 hours, is there any cable to charge the battery or do we have to buy a new one?
change the battery
Hey, I am not able to connect Boys m1 to my sony a6500.. can you please help me with this?
Hi there! What do you mean you cannot connect? I am almost certain that the A6500 has a microphone jack. What seems to be the problem?
@@markfriday Hey! Thanks for the reply & sorry for the late reply from my side.
I guess it was diffractive unit. I got it replaced & now it's working fine.
Thanks.
Can you use this mic together with wireless bluetooth earplugs?
Hi, Patricia! You will have a bit of trouble because if you're using bluetooth earphones, your device will default to using the microphone that's inside the earphones.
@@markfriday what about with the M1 Pro ?
Bro I don't know why but I am not getting much of a good sound from this mic(boya bym1), can you tell me what gain you set while recording and a good android recorder for it?
Hey, there! For video recording on the Android platform, I suggest you to download an app called "Open Camera." It has manual audio gain functions and it's a fantastic app to record video as well because it gives you almost full control over the settings! By the way, please do subscribe to the channel! I will post more videos like this in the future! Thanks and God bless!

Hey what phone you're using along this microphone ?
Boya handles sibilants well while Rode is more deaf to it.
You are not pointing the rode directly at your lips, you will get much better results that way. i have noticed the rode has a very narrow angle of what it picks up which is very good for noise isolation but i have noticed if it is not pointed in the right direction it can have this problem. But I am very pleased with the sound it gives and with a zoom h1n i am capable of doing the smooth sexy radio voice podcast sound... I don't own the boya to compare, but i got the rode for 55 quid and i don't regret it at all.
thanks

you can get as further away with a 6m cable. hmmmm can i go 7m away from the camera?
Hey, Vitya. You might need an extension cable if you wanna do that with the Lav Go. By the way, please subscribe and be part of this community!
The boya is way way WAY better! The mid range is way more present. The rode is way too bassy
But... how? You have almost no noise!!! I have the same, and the pro as well, but I have so much noise you, and if I move even a bit it sounds like an earthquake :-/
Sliding switch on M1 is high quality, while tye two switches on tye M1 Pro are so bad engineers. I am always afraid to break them when switching.
@@jibjibam I had both, and I like the sound quality of the pro better, but I mess up something obviously, because every time I move even a tiny bit, it sounds like a torpedo impact... the switch do not concerns me, but the noise from clothes moving is a problem. So much of a problem that I bought a takstar sgc 600, so I do not have to figure out a way to handle it... :-)

Anyone count how many times Mark says Boya BY-M1?
Haha! I said it a bunch of times! 😭
The Rode has a lot stronger bass (under 1000hz)... must use an expensive magnet...
Rode sounds better
listen man you have a good idea for a video by Taylor Swift at well it's not fun to watch whenever he has not skipped well you'll get rid of you spell subscribers but good luck
Boya is good
They sound the same.
Depends what you listen on
boya is winner
Hey, Renu! Yes, I think so too! The value that you get out of what you pay for with the Boya is just unmatched! I will be doing a review on the M1 Pro soon so please subscribe and stay tuned!
