Although the Lavalier II had a slight more richer, fuller sound than the Lav GO, to my ears, it's not enough to consider upgrading. I have two Lav GOs and am quite happy with them. Thanks for the comparison test!
Agreed. A little bit of EQ and compression will close the gap instantly. The only real difference between the mics is low-end response and that is trivially easy to compensate for.
Thanks for this great review. I came here before making a purchase, and although I preferred the Lav II, I decided to purchase the Lav Go as it's half the price and didn't seem a justifiable upgrade.
I just got the Wireless Go 2 system for teaching yoga, and have been figuring out which lavalier mic would be better, and feel the Lav 2 is best for me, especially with that Kevlar reinforced cable. Should hold up much better for bending and moving around a lot, and the extra dead cat for out door sessions is nice. I now know which mic to go with. Thank you for the thorough review.
Thank you. Answered my question perfectly. I don't hear enough of a difference to buy the more expensive mic. Here in Australia it is close to double. Yes it has a tiny bit more detail outside but not enough. Great vid.
I believe the mic placement for the Lav 2 is on the side of the mic rather on top of the mic like the Rode Go Lav. Because of this side mic placement, the Lav 2 is more likely to pick up noise if you try to conceal it. (like when having the mic brush up against the inside your shirt when the mic is concealed). For this reason I purchased both...though never tested this assumption (Whether one works better than the other when tucked inside you shirt)...and the Rode Go Lav mic is still available and has been discounted in price so I went for both. The Rode Go Lav mic also makes a good back up and can also be used in a dual system so not a total loss if its doesn't get used much.
At the outdoor shots, you can clearly hear the difference. The Lavalier II sounds brighter and has more bass. Definitely more frequency range for some EQs.
Thanks for the video. I have both mics and find the new model is richer and works better in all situations. Also, FWIW, the new mic, delivered with the case and the dead mouse is good value.
Since the Lavalier II has the mic on the front vs the top (like to Lav Go) did you notice any more background noise on the Lav II? Hard to tell from listening in your video but I am curious.
there was a very slight difference between both from what I could hear at least with my Shure SE846's was a very slight boost in the Lavalier ll sensitivity wise but it was so minimum to me that I don't think I'll be missing out vs the Lavalier Go's that I have. I bought 3 of them for the Wireless Go ll Stereo and single version as well which I know it's overkill but I wanted to match my Gopro Hero 10 B footage audio to my Sony Alpha A7IV Main Camera footage audio by pressing the record button on them at the same time to do my best to keep them synced. I've been able to make them sound better in post with Equalizing the mic audio but I feel like there is still room for improvement. I just wish I had more knowledge on this kind of stuff. thank you for sharing your experience with us. 🙇♂️🙏
I had already two Smartlav+ die on me (for no apparent reason suddenly the white noise is as loud as the main audio). Therefore either buying the Lav GO of Lav II next. Still undecided after the video since the Lav II is 30% more expensive where I live .. but maybe as you pointed out it’s more durable … and that could safe me another run to the store next year 😅
For motorcycle use, which is better between the two? with lavalier 2 with the dead cat in the helmet maybe I feel the wind right? or are they the same?
I just bought the Lavalier II on Amazon but I was just wondering whether it's a better idea to get a used lavalier or a whole 'nother system from another brand, as per advice by my cousin who works as an audio technician. He suggested Sennheiser, Shure and Audio Technica. Of course I consulted with him after purchasing the Lavalier II. But then do I really need pro results? I'm such an amateur in the end.
@@iphoneographers thank you! I really wanted to get the Countryman B2 but it’s difficult to get it in Europe. I saw some clips and I love how it sounds.
Hi Blake, big fan of your YT channel! As you are my go-to Filmic Pro guy: Maybe you can make a video about the different shooting options we have now with the iPhone 13 Pro? I would be especially interested in a comparison of 10-bit LogV3 vs. Dolby Vision vs. ProRes. So in which format are you shooting or better: For what content are you using which format? Pro’s and Con’s etc. Thanks already!
I’m not had that issue with either. Remember there’s gain control built into the mics (I tend to leave it on Low) and then it depends on the camera or app you’re using to record and set the input levels. But overall I do like V2 better just because of the field recorder aspects and the ability to record two mics into one receiver. Referring to the Rode go kit in that respect.
@@iphoneographers Whatever the aspect ratio was in the camera during that recording the anamorphic filter should've made the image squeezed. Since there was no squeeze whenever attaching that filter, maybe that filter was faulty.
Is anyone know if this mic can be directly plugged into action cam 3.5mm jack? I am using insta360 ace pro and i dont want any extra mic receiver attached to the camera
These are TRS mics and so they’re not really designed for use with TRRS camera inputs unless you have an adapter. So you’re probably better off getting a TRRS one like this SmartLav+ amzn.to/3YEZP2b
Nope. The thing you need to be careful of though is it can rub against the shirt and cause a rustling sound. I typically use a little piece of gaff tape to secure it.
Thanks for the video. Is the cable noise a big issue with either of these mics? I have an Audio Technica PRO 70 that I use when teaching online, although I no longer use it for my RUclips videos as the cable noise is horrendous.
@@iphoneographers Thanks for confirming this. I have been using the Rode Go as is. Would you say the sound quality of talking when recording RUclips videos is improved when using the Rode Lav Go compared to the Rode Go on its own, or is it just for more convenience? Thanks!

thanks for the review! the Lav II for me most certainly sounded fuller and it was noticeable. The lav go was flatter

The II seems to have more base it's deeper. I actually like it
Great video. Very insightful. I just bought a Lavalier Go a couple of days ago and I'm currently trying it out. Hope for the best.
Thank you.
Answered my question perfectly.
I don't hear enough of a difference to buy the more expensive mic. Here in Australia it is close to double.

Yeah it’s pretty close for sure. The main reason I use it some is having the screw on mount for the mic pack.
This was super helpful for a beginner like myself. Thank you for making this video easy to comprehend and knowledgeable!

We're you able to confirm?
lav 2 was slightly fuller sounding to me. very slight though.

Definitely more frequency range for some EQs.
Lav II was clearly superior! Thank you for this video!
It's amazing how it was shooted only using an iPhone, wanna learn how to delog this professionaly
Nice review. If I am not mistaken, the rode lav go also uses kevlar.
Indeed. Wanted to comment the same.
Cool deal. Didn’t recall that! This new cable feels sturdier though or more robust like their other newer audio cables, which I like.
An awesome review and video as per usual! 😁👍👍
Cheers to you, my man! 🥃🥃

I didn’t really notice anything. It’s probably technically better especially if looking at waveform info in post, but would say it’s minimal.

Smartlav+ and Lav Go are technical the same. The only difference ist the connection type.
Lav II sounded a little more open to me.
Merry Christmas
Thanks! Same to you.
Thanks for all your videos, Blake. I wish you a great Christmas.
Thanks for watching and supporting the channel! And same to you… Merry Christmas.
So helpful. Thankyou so much.
Thank you so much for your video!!! It helped me a lot to choose between the two of them ... the right one for me!!!!!!!!!!!
I could not hear any big difference… 🤷🏼 Thank you for the review. I got GO just half a year ago and seems like there is no sense for me to upgrade.
Great review… no need to get the LaV II, the go almost sounds equally as good
Just got the go! 😮
How about starting with the sound comparison since that's what's REALLY important?
Thanks for the comparison. I appreciate it.
Thanks bud. Nice work. Much appreciated.
Would this mic work with a laptop/pc by connecting it to the headphone jack?
Yes you should be able to and the computer will see it and then you select it as the input and control the levels.
@@iphoneographers You need a TRS to TRRS adapter, don't you ?
Thank you!
thhxxxx
Great info. Thanks for this.
Great review! Thanks a lot for creating this video. I think I'll stick with Wireless Lav Go.

Will it work plugged into a car stereo unit?
Hi .... I get a question... Can i use it whith a Sennheiser Body Pack? Thanks..!!!
Very informative

The Rode is pretty comparable to those brands depending on the model. Some other high-end options would be Sanken or Countryman too.

Great video! Liked and subbed! I had to strap mine to a drone to test the range!🤣
Does the 2 mean dual microphones? Sounds richer. There's a guy on etsy that makes dual Lavs for stereo
No, that just means newer version of the mic. It’s not stereo.
which microphone you do think is better for iphones Rode Lav 2 or Rode Videomic NTG?
Depends. I tend to use a shotgun mic more, but if you’re recording interviews or a lot of talking head stuff then a lav might be better.
Was kind of curious about clipping. Had a lot of issues with v1. Can anyone attest to an improvement with the v2?

🌄 In your video about OsmoPocket-1 with anamorphicND lens(freewell) , what was the aspect ratio setting in the OsmoPocket-1 ?
It’s a weird one of 1.15x using the adapter.
@@iphoneographers
Whatever the aspect ratio was in the camera during that recording the anamorphic filter should've made the image squeezed. Since there was no squeeze whenever attaching that filter, maybe that filter was faulty.
It did squeeze it. It was 1.15x. Most anamorphic adapters are 1.33x. So it was minimal, but definitely squeezed from the standard 16x9.

can we connect the lav 2 microphones with iphones?
Yep
I heard a difference when I used good headphones but it’s really small
does this work with the new dji wireless mic system? I had issues with laav mics with screw on rings
Haven’t tried it, but you can take the screw mount off and use it no problem. For instance, like with the Rode Go mics.
Maybe I am deaf but I can't hear any difference. I would definately not distinguish them in blind test.
What the best value transmitter to combine this mic with?
Probably the Rode Go or the DJI.
Lav II had slightly more depth, base and clarity. Very subtle though.
I heard the clip on the Lav II falls off easily and can get lost. What is your experience with that?
Yeah, it can fall off. But I’m not sure it’s worse than any other similar lav mics. I’ve lost them all. :)
This might be a bit of a dumb question, but if you put the lav mic inside someone's shirt, do you really need the windscreen?
I haven’t really noticed much, just make sure your input gain is set properly.
@@iphoneographers Thanks for confirming this. I have been using the Rode Go as is. Would you say the sound quality of talking when recording RUclips videos is improved when using the Rode Lav Go compared to the Rode Go on its own, or is it just for more convenience? Thanks!
I’m confused why is one $250 and one is $99 and one is $70. I need the best absolutely sound but I’m not sure about the lineup.
Just different mic quality, although I’m not sure which one is 250…?
@@iphoneographers Then how do you know it’s better quality? I thought you said yourself the lav 2 and Go don’t sound any different
They both sound bad, like an old android phone from 2012. I wonder if you can use a sennheiser avx lav mic with it?
And how do you remove the locking mechanism from the sennheiser avx lav mic?
For the money, I think the Lav GO sounded better.
wow outdoors the lav ii was much nicer
They are quite pricey
They are cheap. Checkout a sennheiser or DPA lavalliere. These are expensive.
