In a way, both these songs are evil. (I can’t press return so this will have to be one long paragraph) The Healing Incantation is about someone who is so affected by a loved ones death that they can’t get over it. They wish to rewind time and force the dead ones soul to relive days, so that they can be together, not letting the dead persons soul rest. “Make the clock reverse. Bring back what once was mine” she’s talking about how the dead person was once her joy, and was her friend/lover or whatever. She wants them back. Whereas the Hurt Incantation is someone who has come to terms with the death of a loved one, and now believes that all hope revolves around death itself. They’re letting that person go. “Set the spirit free” they have lost all hope of the revival of the passed ones soul and body, and therefore lets them decay. It may even go as far as wishing death upon them self, to be with the other person. “Break these earthly chains” could imply that the mourning person is bound to earth, and wants the chains to be broken so they can fly up and meet the spirit they have finally let go. Sorry for the rant but, I thought the theories behind these songs are beautiful.

but we also see that she uses the healing incantation to heal flyn's wounds in the movie. As the song says "make the clock reverse," is turning back the clock to where the injury never existed and never will exist. The healing incantation is technically a time machine for the wound where it reverses the state of the wound and pauses it to never show up again, not until they injure themselves again (also a rant not trying to justify the healing incantation is good and is kinda true. Same thing with hurt incantation, nice theory)
Soo basically Healing incantation is about the past, all fresh, innocent and unscarred. The Hurt incantation is completely the opposite. It reveals the future- tainted, scarred, dirtied and no longer innocent.

Actually, the healing incantation is about not accepting someone's death and mourning it. While the hurt incantation is about accepting it but believing there is no other reality than death.

I feel like this principle is the reason so many 'kids' show is pretty mess up and depressing as the story progress when in the first episode is just a bunch of color, animation and word mixed together

In a weird view the "healing" song is kind of 'bad' in a way, it's kinda like cheating death (like Gothel was) in a selfish way.
Whereas the "hurt" song is kind of just doing natures job, ageing and dying. (Natural decay of living things)
But because death is scary, it is framed as negative and *'evil'* whereas the healing song is bright and *'good'* .
Not saying that's a bad storytelling. Just fascinating how Light/Life/Good and Dark/Death/Evil concepts are portrayed in media ^w^

Technically yes, the healing song is the bad song. The sun drop is an element out of this world and the healing incantations brought from it changes what destiny was meant to be. The Hurt song corrects this and brings about the destiny that was to be played out, either by eliminating some magic or speeding up destiny.
I just imagine two sisters with opposite powers each come across an injured rabbit.
One, with the power of healing, heals the rabbit and lets it continue its life.
The other, knowing the rabbit is in great pain, and only having the hurt incantation, stops the rabbit’s suffering by setting its spirit free.

I feel like that's the perfect example of the beauty of yin and yang.
So there's something that was irking me about the Hurt incantation's effect on Rapunzel.
If it was a song for the Moon stone, I was wondering why her hair didn't turn white instead of black. You know, the sun drop gave her golden hair like the sun, this should give her white hair like the moon right?
But then I realized- it's _because_ of the sun drop that she gets black hair from the hurt incantation. It's like- a solar eclipse.
Now that makes me wonder if Cassandra would get reddish hair from singing the healing incantation, like a lunar eclipse.

I made a backstory for this: There were once two little girls, they played together every day. Every day until, one of them moved away. When they grew up, they both found someone to love. One day, the first girl's lover died. She was heartbroken. In hope that he would revive, she sang the healing incantation over his grave every day. Not long after the death of the first girl's lover, was the death of the second girl's lover. She sang the hurt incantation every day and never went outside. Both girls wished to be with their lovers again. But in different ways. The first girl wanted her lover to revive and stay on earth with her, the second girl wanted to leave earth to join her lover in heaven. One day, the first girl woke to find her lover's soul floating around the house. The second girl woke up dead. 🌹The End 🥀

adding my own thoughts to the mix, the healing incantation feels oddly...selfish in its wording. 'bring back what once was mine'. The healing incantation is undoing things that were supposed to happen, it's about changing fate. The hurt incantation- although sounding hopeless, feels like acceptance. Things are ending, and you are watching them leave.
Healing something is a wonderful feeling. Like, despite all odds, you got the chance to fix something, and you did. despite the odds, here you are.
Hurting is likely not something you would want to do. But people hurt, and die eventually. We don't like it, but it exists, and will come at us naturally.
Not really both change fates the healing changes the fate to bring back life the hurting one doesn't sound accepting at all it sound more like it is killing something ripping the spirit out of the body changing fate to stop life
Both aren't bad and yes people get hurt they get wounded they die like the hurting incantation but at the same time people heal from wounds and sure people might die having life ripped away from them but at the same time people are born being given life like the healing incantation
@@doritos4956 well no. The wording "bring back what once was mine" makes it seem like the person is already dead. And you're just chaining them- forcing them back to life whether they want it or not. Idk, it just sounds awfully possessive.
"Set the spirit free" sounds like the person accepts the loss and decides to help their loved ones move on

You are miss understanding the moonstone song. It’s not evil. It’s just the opposite of the sundrop. So as the sundrop returns things to what they once where, the moonstone exhilarates this to what they will be. And that is usually dust. So the powers are not good or evil, they are all in the eye of the beholder.

im confused with this comment with that at the end you are misunderstanding the song but then you contradict yourself with So the powers are not good or evil, they are all in the eye of the beholder. that means that one cant misunderstand because in their eyes it is evil unless im missing something here also one is ultimately good and vice versa i use ultimately because one can be used for evil but the hurt incantation can only kill so how that good please explain

I feel like the right side has lost someone she cared about and she could not heal them in time beacuse she saw a spirit rising out of the body and till that day she was traumatised and lost hope in everything. :p
if you notice, the healing the glow came from the roots of her hair to the end, but with the hurt it goes from the ends of her hair to the roots. I think the meaning behind it is the healing glow came from inside. and the hurt came from the outside. Deeper meaning, she can heal from within, but hurt comes from around her AKA others.

so, yes, the hurt incantation brings death but it says something like "set the spirit free" and I think that's a beautiful thing, because when someone dies (according to my people beliefs) it's a wonderful thing, it means that their soul, their spirit is free again to rendezvous everywhere: the flowers, the sea, the stars... therefore I found the hurt incantation to be actually quite magnificent and just as marvelous as the other one 💓✨

I love the extended hurt incantation lyrics. However I also see why it was originally so short.
The healing incantation has two verses that we know of. The hurt has one.
They're meant to symbolize the idea of life and death. Healing and Hurting (obviously).
Life is long and usually joyous. The healing incantation has a much more upbeat tone. Healing is a long process of overcoming what has hurt you and required you to heal from, but each step is progress and it's a happy progress.
Death is quick. It takes with little mercy, and it doesn't last long. Once it's over, it's done. You can't prolong death once it's already stopped, unlike how you can stretch life to its fullest extent even in its last moments. Hurting is a quick but painful process. It's why it's called hurting. You get hurt, and you have to live with that. However the hurt leads to healing. It stops in one way or another. Tying into the mutual idea of death- an end that is quick- or again leading into the healing process. Once it's over, you move on.
However you can't have one without the other. Neither would exist or hold the amount of feeling they do without the other. And just like a coin, they are two sides of the same thing. And because they are the same thing, the feelings tied to them can just as easily be reversed. (Think how some people see finding a penny heads-up is good luck while others believe it's tails-up that grants the good luck.)
Life can be painful. It's long and it forces you through struggles you'd rather not face. It has as little mercy as Death does. The Healing incantation is pulling someone back from death, pulling them back into the life that has hurt them. The Healing incantation refuses to let go and move on.
Death is a relief from this pain that Life sends you through. There is no pain or suffering once Death has taken its toll on you. The Hurt incantion is letting the spirit move on. Setting it free, as the lyrics say. It's showing mercy by acting fast and allowing you to escape the life that has hurt you. The life that has lead you to Deaths door through a path of suffering.
TLDR; Life is long, however the way it affects someone can change drastically from person to person. Death is short. It acts quick and then it's done. Just like life, the idea behind it changes.
For some, life is joyous, and they cherish it. However for others life is painful and they just wish it to show mercy on them.
For some, Death is painful, showing no mercy to those it takes. For others, Death is that mercy they've seeked and it's setting their spirit free.

Though, can you explain why it takes a while for Rapunzel to 'snap out of it' once she starts the hurt incantation that she needs to be physically moved or pushed in (not splashed with) the 🌊 to stop?
remember how her eyes turn black? well when she sings the hurt incantation they do that for a reason it kinda puts her in a trance to keep going and the purpose of the hurt incantation is to hurt so whatever the reason for the moon stone to exist wasn't, it was ment to hurt and that was just a sure way of doing it. which is why it takes a little more for her to snap out of it. Hope this helps!
Both the incantations are good and bad in their own ways
The healing incantation will bring back the loved one you lost but it is also like cheating death to stay alive and not accepting death as a part of the life
The hurt incantation is accepting death as a part of the life and setting the spirits of people in grate sorrow free but the people are thinking that death is evil and life is good (how media portraits them) that's what making the hurt incantation seem evil.
it's really cool if you mix the two together so that every other line it's the different incantation.

the expression of the character on the right is haunting. And the subtle positioning tells a story as though on the left she looks down fondly on people from above but on the right looks up to above for help or maybe hope that was lost.

oh wow I just realized that. But here's the real question: Why?
@Stella Motley, Maybe it’s meant to reflect how Life is like the hair growing (from the roots), whereas Death is like the hair being cut (from the ends).
Those two songs, one after the other, always make me think about someone desperately trying to save one of their loved ones and, after everything fails, descending into madness and trying to raise the dead just to have that person back. English is not my first language, so don't be offended if my grammar is atrocious 😅
I like this point of view on the song
So much exhaustion and despair in the hurt incantation... Like she wants to somehow express her pain but is just drained of all strength. Pain, somewhere deep inside, keeps tormenting a soul too tired to resist, one that has given up, now only responding with a weak moan. Makes me want to cry.

This gives me an idea for an animated short.

It seems good for a bit. People can't die and everyone lives their days with excitement. Until they realize that without death butchering animals for food results in the animals being alive for it all. Plants are over growing. Insects continue to spread the plague again. Without death they live in total agony.
The village finally decides to free the Goddess of death only to be stopped by the Goddess of life. Terrified and saddened at the thought of seeing people die again. A fight breaks out ultimately resulting in the Goddess of death being released. She says an incantation, the only lines in the short, and death comes to the world once more. The Goddess of life sees the smiles on people's faces knowing that their suffering is over.

The “hurt” incantation just sounds like a form of stopping suffering, ‘set the spirit free’ is like releasing the spirit of a dying person. Its a good thing.
“Healing” incantation is changing the proper course of nature, not letting things move forward. ‘Bring back what once was mine’ sounds too controlling and more like trapping something.
Thinking of both songs as in a life or death situation, “hurt” seems more like pity and healing. While “healing” sounds like removing a chance for life move on.
Really all I can think of while listening to the hurt incantation is a plague doctor going around and ending a poorly off persons suffering.

In all reality the need of the “healing incarnation” or life is obvious. But the need for the “hurt incarnation” or death is also necessary. If we didn’t go through any trials, do you know how weak we would be? And that one line “set the spirit free” death is a part of life, and sometimes we need to learn to set spirit free of our loved ones and let them slip into death. And technically if no one ever died then technically their wouldn’t be enough resources to use anymore, like food would run out, no new generations would be able to be born cause over population would be a huge issue. Also not just food would run out, also our resources such as coal, fossil fuels, etc would run out...

I saw a comment that said that the healing incantation is longer than the hurt incantation because healing takes time but pain can be instant, hence the hurt incantation is short compared to the healing one.

The healing one uses the flower so i figured the hurt one can use the moon stone. Use terms for shadowing something instead of lighting it, switch which lines use make and let and use their opposite.
