Anna barely turned 12 years old when she started writing her own songs, a need to give her many feelings a vent. Inspirations were plenty - Dashboard Confessional influenced her just as much as 30 Seconds to Mars. It may be her youth that blurred any style restrictions: Emo, Punk or Gothic have always been equally represented in her music collection - as long as it was true passion that lead the artists.
That is exactly the key element in her songs: they may all just be written by Anna in her room - but there always is that emphasis on true feelings and expressive lyrics.
This candor might be strange for some but it is just this distinction in her thinking, her direct lyrics and her vivid songwriting that make up Anna’s style. A style that speaks directly from the hearts of her many listeners.
If you wonder why some comments are missing: I delete comments where the thread goes out of hand and people start to attack each other on many different levels. Here's not the place to mass-attack some people- no matter how stupid you think they are. I will also delete slurs- especially the homophobic or racial ones. If you can't keep up basic manners don't complain when your comment is gone.
Considering the topic of the song it's amazing how many people literally attack each other for no reason. You'd think there was a common sense of "let's stick together", so please try to be a bit more considerate.

I painted the sky pink in kindergarten & because I have ODD (oppositional defiant disorder), she decided I must have been purposefully defying her (I'm partially deaf and I couldn't hear her tell me to paint with cold colors), so she marched me to the Principal and demanded that I either be suspended or expelled.
I made sure to make a Kindergarten cult after that incident just to spite her.

This song has me in tears. It reminded me of the first real friend I made who took her own life 14 years ago at the young age of 14 years old. She struggled with depression, and wanting to be loved and was relentlessly bullied. I miss her dearly and she is the reason I got my first phone, and job. Dang, I remember this song back when I was a depressed and suicidal teen at ages 13-16. I’ve definitely come a long way since then and I’m really happy that I can finally listen to this, enjoy it and not feel like I relate to almost all the lyrics.

I'm 15. I used to be bullied at school by my classmates and teachers. I am the least favorite child. I never had anybody to talk. I prayed to die ever since I was six. I have anxiety issues and I flinch/ cry alot. Sometimes I have extreme breakdowns just because of my father. He may not realise it but his words are tearing me apart and I hate him for that. I don't want to appear weak infront of him but I can't help it. I hate my mom for always taking his side

I used to be too. Sometimes people tell me how brave I am for dressing how I want. "I could never do that", they say, and "I'm not confident enough." But actually, dressing this way MAKES me confident. When you really like yourself, nothing gets to you. Yes, assholes may yell "EMO" and "VAMPIRE" after you, but if you love yourself like this, why care?
What I'm trying to say is: Get to the point where you're just 100% okay with yourself. (Drastically changing your hair is a good start, at least it was for me) Your body is just a vessel and you can design it however you like it.
And if money's the problem: I'm not rich either. No goth bought a whole new wardrobe one day. You kind of start collecting stuff over the years. I learned that with the right shoes, accessories and hairstyle, the most simple T-shirt looks hella punk rock :)
Also, thrift stores!! I once bought a gothic coat that originally costed more than 100$ for only 20$. No joke.

I remember hearing this for the first time at age 12 a little after it came out. I was going through some stuff and this song really helped. I'm 19 now and now going through different more complicated stuff and this song is still helping me. So I just want to say that things do get better, it may seem like they don't and that you're just lost. But it does get better and time truly does heal. I hope this song helps you the way it helped me.

When I first heard this song I was I like oh it talks about parents wanted to make they children prefect. But they don't understand not everyone can be perfect.
But now I listen back this song. I understand it very clearly now. Parents wanting they children to fulfill they want not caring about what the child is feeling if the child is liking it or not. And it making the child feel very sad and lonely. The only thing child want is for they parent to see for who they are and let them do what makes them happy.

As a child I felt all this pressure on me, when I talked to my parents about it they said “Oh you don’t have to be perfect”, days after I got grounded for have 3 missing assignments because I was busy doing other school stuff and my parents ( mostly my mom) said “Why can’t you be like *my friends name*, she always looks good, does what’s she’s told, and everything”, if you don’t want me to be perfect then why compare me to someone who you think is perfect💔
I was 19 when this came out. Now I'm 27. It's been on my quick-access songs list ever since. I love this song, (and Damiens' version, too!) because it reminds me that others feel like this too, so I'm not alone in that and I CAN get rolling again no matter what. Truly beautiful music.

People suffer from different kinds of depression & all cope with it differently. Some people have what's called bipolar depression & have their highs & lows while others r just down most of the time. Depressed people can joke about being depressed as a way of venting & I suppose that's better than cutting.

I just found this song and it really hit me. None of my family is aware that I am suicidal. If they knew, they would only say that I am seeking attention. They would never ask me why I feel this way. I discovered Anna Blue in my late 20's her music spoke to my soul of teen angst and a fellow soul in pain 8 years later I rediscovered her music I am older and wiser now but I still love how her music takes me back to fun memories

But...
today, I realized that I'll never be enough. Most parents would be proud of a B+ student. At least, that's what I've heard. This is the lowest that my grades have ever dropped.
In my school, the days are flexible. You can take your two weekend days whenever you want. I took mine Wednesday and Thursday, this week. I reached my halfway point in my classes, and wanted to take a break. We had just gotten a new season of my favorite show, so I went up to ask my dad if we could watch an episode during my break. He asked if I had any classes that should have been done before today. I didn't know how to answer, so I said "technically, yes."
He started asking me (again) why I suddenly had lower expectations for myself. Why suddenly the "bare minimum" was enough for me, now. I didn't know how to respond. I had told him already that it was only because I had already taken my weekend days. I was only _technically behind._
But I couldn't explain. I turned away, and started to head back to my room. I tried to say that I should never have come up and asked. I should have stuck to the plan, even though I was an hour ahead of schedule. it came out as the tiniest of whimpers. I started to cry. I called my dog, but that meant that I had to look back over in his direction. He sounded... almost disgusted that I was crying over this.
Mom tried to explain to him. We both calmed down. We watched a couple of episodes. I went back to my room. In between episodes, when I had brought the subject back up, he had told me that it was in the past, and that i should stay in the present. I can't do that. I don't know if it's just the fact that I'm a teenager, or my mental disorder(s), but I can't do that. If I'm not doing something else right then, then I am thinking - either I'm in my head movie, or I'm dwelling on the past.
I started up my playlist. When it got to _Wanderer's Lullaby,"_ I decided knew that that wasn't what I needed right then. I started searching my playlist for _something_ that would feel... _right_ for me then. I landed on this.

Honestly, most parents would prefer to have an A+ student, but some kids who have straight A's their whole life have more strict rules, because that is the only grade the parent had ever known from their kid. Like, maybe if you were straight A student and your parents thought you were giving up on school.
I hope your dad isn't yelling at you or anything though, because usually parents don't do that. But if he isn't yelling maybe he just thought you were giving up, and I think he probably cares for you and your future. If this is not the case though, and he lost his emotional control or something, you should see someone about it.
I myself gave up for my grades on like 2nd-6th grade because I didn't think school was worth it. My parents never cared because they didn't really expect any better from me, though now that I have been keeping my grades up, they get worried when they drop. Though, good job with your grades! I have a hard time keeping my grade at an A because well, I didn't really pay attention for 2nd through 6th grade, so... what do you expect? I'm trying to keep my grades up though.

Parents should be proud, but I can unfortunately relate. My mom not only got disapppinted when my grades dropped, she would take away privileges and try to make me listen to lectures about why it was ok. She pushed me to cheat, into depression, and eventually insane, and I mean that more literally than I care to describe. I associated my entire worth as a person to those little a's, b's, and c's. It was a dark time...
