it’s actualy Reaally not Thaaaat complex !! A dog that is never taught to be alone/spend time away from his owner from a young age, doesn’t get the chance to develop some much needed confidence and comfort skills!! And as they get older, they are a lot more aware of beeing alone since they’ve never been away from their owners at all! It’s a lot more scary and confusing for them! So even if u work from home it’s still super important that you give your dog some Alone time away from u in a different area of the house!! When this isn’t done, and the more time u spend w him, the worst the anxiety is gonna get’

I wish I had known about Victoria 14 years ago when our rescue had barking and separation anxiety issues. He's mellow now (mostly because he's old and doesn't care), but he used to be an absolute terror to anyone who wasn't family. I've started using her techniques at dinner when he barks for food and they do help even on an old man. What a great teacher!

That's what dog training is all about, teaching the owners how to teach their dogs 🐕. Once you know what to do, it's just putting in the practice with your dog. Alot of people also forget to keep the training short. I used to do "TV training" basically having short fun sessions with my dogs during TV commercials and my dogs loved it. Dogs only have short attention spans, so doing several short sessions during the day instead of one long keeps their attention on the task. Also, try and teach one or two things at a time and you'll find your dog will pick things up quite quickly. Then you move onto the next thing you want to teach them. The work you put into your training will pay off with a well behaved and happy dog.

Another lovely happy dog story.....Our dog had separation anxiety so we play "classical music for studying" for our dog and give him a bone to chew or a snack mat about ten minutes before we go out and our dog is relaxed he doesn't even run to the door now . We also play the music and give him a chew treat at random moments so he associated with good times with us and it works so well ! I mostly work from home though so he isn't left much ,but for a while we couldn't go out because we felt so bad at his distress. The music has an amazing effect.

I don’t have a dog, but a year ago my neighbors had some construction work done in their home, so during the day there was a lot of loud noises and my cat would hide a lot. Every time I would come home during my lunch break from work I would find him hiding under the couch. I started playing Disney piano music for him so he wouldn’t focus on just the construction noises and it worked! Now when I would come home from work he would be on his cat tree or happily greeting us at the door instead of always hidden under the couch . Music really helps animals too and not much is said about it.

My mom is one of the few percent of those who kept their covid dogs. My mother has always wanted one but as a kid she had a bad experience and it scarred her. But she suffers from depression and one day during the height of the pandemic she decided to buy a dog. Three years going four and we can't imagine our lives without our dog. But I too, as an animal lover am angry how many dogs were being removed to a new home or into a shelter. Dogs are not home decor, nor a temporary thing. They are living and breathing beings with feelings. You can't just want one without proper research (to find the best suited dog for you which many first and clueless dog owners don't do), you also need to be a 100% willing to own one. I hate seeing dogs and animals in general being thrown away like an old piece of furniture.

But you're so correct in saying that so many people who come across a hurdle with their dogs, just give up on them. They deserve so much better.

I have a 9 week old female German Shepard. She hasn’t been left alone for the 1 week we have had her.
We left her alone for 15 minutes while we sat in our car down the road.
She was howling and crying & trying to get out of her pen😢 I felt so terrible

My parent’s dog has to be medicated if they are going to leave her. She can’t handle being alone without the help, she won’t even lay down all day without her medicine. Before my parents adopted her she had been taken back to the shelter because the owners said she was too much to deal with. She’s become my parent’s baby esp since they both just retired, she barely needs her meds because they take her everywhere. My baby girl cries when I leave, and it breaks my heart. I’m sick, so I’m home a lot unless I have doc appts. When I was in the hospital my friend watched her and my little boy, and she said that poor girl kept walking around looking for me before curling up at my friend’s feet. Like Victoria said, I wish we could explain to them that we are coming back, and they don’t have to be afraid.

6:55-“ I’ve left the house and I made this happen” -- NO.. It’s cuz u DIDNT LEAVE IT **** AT ALL **** Or Teach him to be ALONE since he was a puppy so he hasn’t learned how to be confident and he is a lot more aware now too as he gets older so he’s even More aware of beeing alone now than he was as a young pup’

There was a pandemic going on and she had _cancer._ If she went out , there would’ve been a _strong chance_ she would’ve left the dog _permanently._

I didn't hear her say anything about exercise. A well exercised dog is too tired to do any of these shenanigans. Also crate training would help. The drop it and take it is a definite win, not just for the stealing but in case he gets into something he's not supposed to, the drop it command is paramount.

I'm not sure if this is dramatized for video. It's possible the dog has separation anxiety, but they didn't really show it. Many dogs are just barkers. So, I hope other owners don't get confused by this.

    • @imalwaysright
      @imalwaysright 11 месяцев назад

    • @amythinks

That's the problem. They didn't. They showed a barking dog. Now everybody will think as you did that this is separation anxiety. Dog might have it but it wasn't reflected in the footage.

It's obvious you've never had a dog with true anxiety. I have one now and work with him everyday, if you read up as I have, some dogs never get over it. I've had dogs and never one like this one. Easy to judge.

Hi Victoria great show. Thank you I have learned so much. Could you please tell me. When you train a dog not to bark at people coming to or walking by your house will your dog bark when he really needs to ? Like when someone breaks into your house will your dog sense something is wrong ?

First problem is a poorly bred dog. Responsible breeders don't let their quality stock go to people who will intentionally mix them, so the vast majority of "designer breeds" come from poorly bred stock from backyard breeders.
AFTER that, puppies need to learn to be alone. That means putting them in a room alone early and often for an hour or so to PREVENT these issues.
