My wife refuses to even discuss the possibility of eating bread pudding. So one day I made “French toast casserole”. She loved it.
How amazing ars you!! 👀 French toast casserole coming up 😋
_I laughed so hard, I made _*_snorky_*_ noises!_
...it's all in how you present it! (your wife is a lucky woman)
She sounds like a real cunt.

The 'touch' of sugar had me cackling. Lol
I know to expect it by now but the tiny amount of sugar he initially put threw me off! ;)

"So we got that going for us, which is nice" - always love the Caddyshack quote when you slip it in there.
YES, is a great quote from that movie.

Bread Pudding is my favorite dessert and blueberries are one of my favorite fruits, the title alone was a revelation. So, this was the dessert I've been missing out on all these years.
same same - try lemon with those blueberries! :)
He did put a little zest in there I think.
Love how Chef John allows variations on the method which makes you feel like it's totally ok to swerve a little out of one's lane and still get a great result
"I love his voice, it's very comforting." - my mom after I showed her this video. I agree! Chef John's voice always makes me feel happy and at ease. :D
Why does YT hate Chef John? It's been months since I saw one of his videos in my recommendations. I have to keep searching my subscriptions to find them. Curse you RUclips! I need my Chef John.
Suscribe and hit the notifications button and you’ll never miss a video.
Probably because he's not screaming "papa!" In a baby voice like a clown.
Like the videos. I get a few videos a day including ones from years ago. I've also saved a bunch of his videos to a recipe playlists although I don't know if that helps out the algorithm
I just love the way this guy presents his videos. They're all so very charming, fun, informative, and encouraging. I'm totally gonna try this version the next time I make bread pudding.

I was thinking about a bread pudding (had stale bread earmarked for croutons) and then I remembered I also had blueberries that I intended to use for mini pies... and here I am. Thanks, Chef John, glad to know you are one step ahead! 👍
Never clicked so fast even though I had my dinner 3 hours ago, food is love and love is life ❤️😍
If Chef John says "it's the best" I believe him.
I don’t

It is the best, I just made it.
Me too 👍🏽
I love how I watch any given Chef John video til the end and go to hit the like and realize it's already blue, so I already have. That's what I call time warp food video effect.
His "touch of white sugar" is Gordon Ramsey's "tablespoon of olive oil".

No it isn't
Ahahaha I have to agree🤣🤣🤣
While I don't doubt the authenticity of the bowl, I also would enjoy hearing the fork's testimony.

Both my parents passed within the past year but they were massive cooks, I can do savory dishes all day but I suck when it comes to sweets, my mom could makes them all day, light, fluffy, sweet, you did this blueberry crumble that would make the soul melt, add some good vanilla ice cream *chefs kiss*
So sorry for your loss.
@@kimberlyrobinson3992 I really appreciate it
It's hard. I hope in time you can make sweets too and warm memories will overcome the sorrow.
I went blueberry picking yesterday. Great timing!
Add a shot or two of Marsala wine. . .My grandmother used it in any french toast and brad pudding. . delicious!

My friend told me he makes his bread pudding with croissants instead of bread. I value this friend.
Check out Chef Billy Parisi's croissant bread pudding with dried cherries, zabaglione, and fresh whipped cream. I cried, it was so amazing.
Now we know what hips, forks, and bowls, all have in common.
I had to scroll back up after I heard the line in question to give this comment the like it deserved.
I see what you did there…

JUST WHEN I THOUGHT CHEF JOHN HAS RUN OUT OF IDEAS, HE COMES UP WITH THIS
Pfft, ahah. There's no way to run out of ideas with cooking. Go to your library. Look in the cookbooks. There's probably even a metric cookbook lurking in there. But we've been making bread and beer since the dawn of civility.
I love making all kinds of bread pudding-especially with croissants!
Bread & Butter Pudding is an old staple here in the UK. It's nice to know that our American cousins do it too x
It's a bit old fashioned here. I think it was more common decades ago.
@@recoil53 same here. Its definitely nostalgia food.
At my grandmother's (UK long, long time ago) dinner was called tea and consisted of cold stuffs and salads, table laid up with plates of sliced, buttered bread. Any left over bread made into pudding with currants, usually a treat for the children. Very nostalgic, up there with bubble and squeak.
I've never really been one for bread pudding but I'm definitely trying this!
My wife makes the best whiskey sauce to put on her bread pudding, she doesn’t use blueberries though. I’m going to show her this recipe and try it with her whiskey sauce I hope!
Or, just for fun, you could try out this recipe and surprise her 😍 I am sure she'll be thrilled ❤️
Now you need to give us her recipe for the whiskey sauce!
Can we get the recipe for the sauce?
Boy you’re in for a treat
I made something like this at work and we had a rum caramel for a different dessert
My jeebus I have never been more happy
Dark alcohol and blueberries is so underrated if you do it right
That sounds like vital scientific research. And you can try different bottles of whishhhhhkey. Hic.
For those like myself that might have issues combined with what's going on in the world today leave it to Chef John to pick up our spirits. He may see himself as an instructor of food preparation, but I see him as much more than that. Now if I can just figure out what I did with that container of my Cinnamon mix it'd be all good.
I had the same revelation and is why I subbed. Chef John distracted me in all the right ways from this world. Now I'm just looking for my whisk...

I will try this at home.
Buttery crunchy bits are my favorite as are blueberries. Perfection!
I made this yesterday. It came out AMAZING. Thank you Chef.
I've never dried out my bread when making bread pudding, it's always creamy and tastes like a gorgeous baked custard mixed with the buttery bread taste. Though adding blueberries might be an interesting kick to it instead of raisons.
Looks good, have to try with apricots. Since that's what I have growing.
I love everything about your channel, Chef John. You're an awesome dude.
I made this for the Independence day gathering. It was excellent! I finished with a lemon glaze, to me, it was a home run.
"And speaking of Juniors...." your videos always make me smile, man.
Mmmmm my mouth is watering. Not had bread and butter pudding for years. It was a family favourite when I was a kid. My Mum used raisins instead of blueberries and she did sprinkle brown sugar on the top and it went all crunchy and delicious. Sometimes she served it with pouring cream, other times with custard. Both delicious!!
I love the idea of using blueberries. Bet it would be good with blackberries too 😋
Me an intellectual: Makes french toast and eats it with blueberries...
I was just thinking how close this is to French toast with blueberries. Interesting how the same ingredients for one thing can make something completely different :D
Monster.
Many years ago, Safeway used to sell a twin-pack of challah bread pudding with raisins in their frozen dessert section. They came in miniature bundt forms and would cook up in about 15-18 minutes at 350 degrees. Delicious, especially with a spoonful of funky, dark rum poured over before popping them out of the forms.
Of course they were discontinued.
Perhaps a dollop of vanilla custard on top wouldn't be too inappropriate? 😋
This looks so good.
I am so excited to make this! Easy recipes that seem complex are the best!
At home we always used "blend" coffee cream poured over our bread pudding, kind of how you do corn flakes.
You read my mind! Have lots of blueberries, sooooo, this looks wonderfully delish. I hope you'll read this soon: Can you use frozen blueberries? Thanks for the great recipe
@nila phillips exactly. What's the worst that could happen! :-)
@nila phillips thx
Looks fantastic for this hot summer in Vegas!
Made this today. OMG, this is soooo good. I've learned to follow Chef John's instructions, so the texture was PERFECT. I didn't have lemon so I used lime zest. I think it added another dimension of flavor. Making this one again for sure, best Bread pudding is right.
I made a quarter recipe split into 2 ramekins. It came out great. The smell from the oven reminded me of french toast, so I made some maple syrup whipped cream as a topping. Add in some home made lemon ice cream and I had a happy Fourth of July.
That looks awesome and since I already make a lot of bread pudding I'm going to try it yer way and use up some of the many bags of blueberries in my freezer! Thank you.
I had been talking today about how I was craving bread pudding and this sounds like a good way to make it fit the theme of a 4th of July dessert. Thanks as always Chef John
You are a nice guy-' & I Love your comments !🤗 as i always get a chu kle or smile on my face!!😍🎶
THANK YOU CHEF JOHN, LOVE YOUR PERSONA😍!!!
I love all bread puddings. This is a new one for me. Can't wait to make this!
I'm trying this with red currants straight from the plant. It looks completely "tastes like more".
Birdy
That is such a beautiful loaf of bread. The heels of the bread on a loaf like that is heavenly.
Apple bread puddings are incredible, any sort of berry pudding, peach bread pudding. It's pretty much impossible to have a bad fruity bread pudding.
That was magnificent thank you so much easy to do and fabulous thank you
I swear just had a version in the work cafeteria but this is the best place to actually try this.
There really are some dishes that are cafeteria friendly !
I love Chef John's kitchen equipment, awesome bowls & pans. I have kitchen envy. Thanks for such a great recipe 👍
I just love the subtle humour throughout all his videos!
A pleasure to watch and listen to this man he makes it look so easy ❤
Dear Chef John: I absolutely love 😍 your presentations AND your voice! What a hoot! 🤗 (plus all the other stuff in comments)
This looks like a great recipe to try bread pudding for the first time!
Ooh you never had bread pudding? You are in for a treat hehe
Ooohhh my the goodness that’s about to hit your tastebuds will be like fireworks in your mouth! Enjoy!!!
THAT looks amazing great job 🎉❤ thank you
Your right bread pudding is better cooled off in the fridge , it's one of the first things i learnt to cook as a child , yours looks great with the blueberrys :) ours were layered with buttered bread building as you go an not dried , if it weren't for the sugar yours would be healthier lol but i guess butter is food to hey , i'm going to try the blueberry cause i have a bag sitting in the freezer an getting tired of blueberry clafouti Thx Chef John :)
Thanks for sharing chef 👨🍳 👍😋
Would eat the whole TAVA on my own! Looks great.
That looks amazing! Could this be prepped the night before and baked in the morning or would that ruin it? Thanks!
Drying the bread overnight in the oven would be a huge time saver.
This weekend at a local park we did a cooking demonstration using Dutch Ovens,. This recipe was the hit of the show, even without the ice cream.
Gotta give this a try, does this look good or what. Love bread pudding.
Really enjoy your channel, your video instructions are second to none, excellent photography, excellent editing.
Thanks for going to all the trouble you do to show how it’s done, thank you.

Best bread pudding evah. Not dry, not dense, tangy fruit just the perfect balance.
It does look magnificent‼️ Yes with ice cream👌
Thanks Chef John one of my favorite fruits blueberries appreciate it you always topping yourself
Perfect timing. I have 2 cups of cream and a bunch of stale bread in the fridge and was planning to turn it into something today.
Bread pudding is like ice cream...the range is from very good to excellent!
Looks yummy and I 💕 Blueberries
Hey Chef John, you might, someday, try the top layer, made with a certain Ca based grocery store, that has amazing cinnamon bread, house brand cinnamon bread. Just another great addition to your wonderful blueberry bread pudding. thank you so much for sharing your pandemic days with us. We made almost every one of your episodes. They were so much fun.
Chef John always has the best transition lines.. 👏🏼🤗
No water bath = some crunch! Can't wait to do this. tyvm chef.
My wife loves bread pudding . I’m not a big fan but this looks so good I’m willing to try it !
I retract my statement about wanting to eat less sugar
😂 Me too
But he only uses "a touch of sugar" in this recipe! LOL
Mee tooooo
Oh, I'd be all over that. Bread pudding is my absolute favorite!! Nom nom nom, you crack me up too. Love your videos!!!
That looks fantastic! I can't wait to try this.
That looks sooo good and delicious. In my country we do it with raisins in the middle and caramel under the bread.
Caramel under each layer of bread?
Just made this and topped it with some Laphroaig-infused whipped cream. It was pretty tasty-10 out of 10 would recommend.
I LOVE blueberries!! 🫐 This recipe looks so delicious! Thank you Chef John! 😃
Perfect!!! Just what I wanted. And it all started with a loaf of day old bakery bread
I'm impressed he does all his mixing by hand and by the number of large, metal mixing bowls he has on hand.
lol have to share... i was playing everquest and visiting with someone from canada and talking food and you came up lol he is a french chef and we are both huge fans.
A wild blueberry from Northern Ontario is divine.
Very nice recipe. thanks.
Looks pocket-friendly, yet delicious. *I would reduce sugar in the custard and sprinkle it on top.
WOW!!!! Can’t wait to make this!!!
Chef John, you should try a slightly sweet cream cheese frosting or drizzle. Goes nicely with this.
That looked amazing and mouth watering for me. Thanks Chef John
Beautiful cooking
Dammit, I CANNOT BELIEVE IM JUST FINDING YOU! At this moment I'm cleaning up from making Your Prime Rib. I thought I'd make a bread pudding, was about to settle on whatever came up
Then I thought...I wonder if Chef John has a recipe...Stupid Question.... and here it is! I did the same thing last week with the Crab Rangoon. Please dont ask....ANYWAY I'm going to try again BUT for NOW
THANK YOU CHEF JOHN!!!! YOU DA SHIT..thats Jersey slang for You're the best😁
k thx Chef John for the blueberry idea, i made it yesterday turned out great, i wanted a lemon flavour in the pudding part so made lemon curd and substituted about half a cup of that for milk, the reason for the lemon curd was to prevent curdling and give a very strong lemon flavour, it was a two egg pudding to so one eight of yours , i'm old don't eat much lol, so was six slices of fresh bread, i don't think stale bread makes a good pudding considering the tiny amount of moisture in bread anyway, and using whole slices allowed me to butter and sugar the top slices, anyway if you love blueberrys as i do it's a wonderful way to use them no matter how you tweak it to your tastes and Thx again :)
I made a fresh compote from berrues I picked....wonder if I can use this instead of the fresh berries??
This looks so delicious!
Also thats 1.25 cups of sugar and .25 cup if brown sugar
4 large eggs
4 yolks or 6 large eggs total
.5 tsp salt
.5 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 medium lemon zested
3 cups whole milk
2 cups heavy cream
1 lb sourdough bread
4 tbsp meoted butter
1 lb blueberries
I don't think there is any reason you couldn't use your compote. If you added sugar to compote which I am assuming you did you might want to consider reducing the sugar in the custard a bit or the overall sweetness level might be a bit over the top.
Just to save you some time... you know he offers the full written recipe now will all these videos right? Link is in the description.
@@CookinWithSquirrl thanks. And yeah I know he has it as a link in the description. I actually visited the link and printed it out. But for those of us who don't want to follow the link I figured this was an at-a-glance recipe list
I relate to “the best” being in quotes here, because I describe my own cooking as “good”.
Super made looks really delicious great 👍👍🇩🇪🇩🇪
That looks so, so good! Thanks for sharing!
In my country we have a similar dessert, traditionally prepared and consumed during Lent. I despise it. But this... this looks yummy!!
Where are you from, Romania?
My first experience of Chef John NOT putting something in the 'center' of the oven and choosing the upper center!
Love a good bread pudding and never made one myself! A very patriotic dish with (French?) vanilla ice cream atop the blueberry B.P. with maybe a couple of pieces of reddish colored fruit (cherries or strawberries) atop the ice cream!
Whipped cream is nice, but a scoop of vanilla ice cream is a delight!
Defeniently gonna try this, it looks awesome
