Hey Chef John. No one else has made videos that have made me stay up until 4am watching. Thanks for the hard work you do in getting these videos out and always coming up with new recipes after over a decade of videos. You have inspired countless people to cook at home and I just want to make sure you know how awesome you truly are.
As a bachelor what doesn't know much about baking and who's been hit pretty hard by the quarantine, didn't have much to work with, but managed to make a single serving of this by just eyeing the ingredients from the video, 4 mushed up raspberries and a spoon of seedless blackberry "jam"... It's one of the best things I've ever baked...
Made this today for Mother's day, won much kudos from the family and Mom! Sister said it was crumble-icious. Thank you Chef John! TIP: If using frozen fruit-- wait for the berries to thaw, then drain as much as possible. I didn't do this and I drained about a cup of liquid the sugar made from the berries and also lost some of the lemon flavor. secondly, I didn't bother to grate frozen butter. Instead I used a pastry cutter and then refrigerated the butter/dry ingredients until after lunch and then assembled. It's all good.
I used frozen fruit (added 5 min to cook time) and forgot to add sugar to it and this recipe still turned out tasting delicious. Thanks Chef John, You really are the OG of RUclips cooking.
@@marlenekerrmarlene1259sorry this is late but im gonna use my frozen berries from my yard and id say to let them thaw a bit so there isn't a bunch of ice. Just a few minutes doesnt need to be room temp imo just add a couple extra minutes like homie said.
Cayenne goes with pretty much ANYTHING. The flavors are very complimentary and neutral. I've had some fantastic "dessert" hot sauces that primarily used cayenne for the heat, although habanero was another great one.
This is so good! Everyone was raving about it :) I replaced 1/4 cup out of the 3/4 of white sugar with brown sugar and it added so much depth to the crust. Rest of the recipe stayed the same, thank you chef John!!
I have a strange feeling Chef John has all his life savings in a cayenne pepper company keeps incorporating cayenne into everything to raise the stock prices
I made this today for my father's birthday. Hands down this is the best recipe out there! Because he's diabetic I used only 1 spoon of sugar in the fruit and no base, it was actually sufficient, I'll never add more than that. 👍👍👍
This Cremble was so incredibly amazing that I will never look for another recipe. This is as you said the ultimate. Thank you so much. I picked berries out of my garden and made it this morning and I loved it.
I have made this recipe 4 times by now and it is always a hit. About to make a peach filled version today! This recipe works really well with gluten free flour, which is a plus.
I like this channel so much, when I listen to this I imagine a 60-70 yo grandpa teaching his nephews around the kitchen. Your voice is so suave as well, incredible. I might be biased but I can't imagine anything other than a dedicated and caring person sharing his recipes with the world
I'm going to make this for my husband this weekend for our 23rd anniversary. He loves berries and this will be perfect! Thanks for all the time and attention you give this channel. You are my favorite chef and instructor of all time!
Chef John, I recently came across this recipe, and I’ve already made it on three occasions in the last two months! It was a hit at every dinner I took this too. I agree that this is the ULTIMATE berry crumble. I plan to modify the recipe for peach season coming up soon! On one occasion, for health purposes, I substituted 1 cup of flour with 1/2 cup almond flour, 1/2 cup coconut flour, as well reduced it by 1/3 cup sugar and it was still joyously tasty without sacrificing flavor. I enjoy watching all your videos! Thank you for your gifts to the world and all the laughs!
Since I first discovered this recipe a couple years ago I made it several times and it never disappoints. I occasionally revisit this video for the sheer entertainment value.
I made this with fresh cherries picked from my yard. I’ll admit I struggle to follow recipes and not adjust it. No good reason why, I just do it. I followed this precisely and it ‘was’ absolutely magnificent. It was even better the second and third day. Thank you for the recipe.
Best crumble ever. I made it with strawberries and blueberries and used orange juice instead of lemon juice. Came out so tasty. Ate it with vanilla ice cream. Thanks U & love U boss.
Thanks for this recipe! Made it once with berries and once with vanilla custard. Both were absolutely awesome! For those interested: I just made 1 liter of vanilla custard, let it cool and replaced the berry mix with it. (was out of berries)
I made this today (am eating it right now) and it's absolutely delicious! A perfect 4th of July dessert--the berries are red and blue and the white vanilla ice cream completes the trio of patriotic colors. Thanks for keeping our quarantined holidays yummy and festive, Chef John!
I have never been so entertained and delighted by a youtube cooking demonstration. So funny! 😂 I will be back for either more recipes or a laugh and smile.
I disagree. Don’t thaw. That’s too messy. Mix sugar & cornstarch with berries just before putting in the pie. Frozen berries might be a little runnier than fresh. Just add a touch more corn starch.

My dad and his girlfriend came over to our house for Father's Day dinner tonight. I made this for the dessert, accompanied by vanilla ice cream of course, and it was absolutely delicious. There was barely any remaining once serving was done (but just enough for leftovers tomorrow!). Thanks for the great recipe, Chef John. I'll definitely be making this again. And again. And again. made this today, made a slight change, instead of baking it as one piece, I baked it in wide mouth, half pint canning jars it cools faster, is ready to eat sooner and everyone has their very own, plus the *leftovers can be lidded up and frozen * there were no leftovers
I just made (oh my!) with frozen berries (wild blueberries, blackberries & raspberries) that I thawed in a colander in the sink for about 2-2.5 hours. Using the 4t of cornstarch.
I made it and it turned out delicious! This is my first time baking any crumble and I used fresh blueberries. But when I added the blueberries to the baking pan, it didn’t look like i had the correct ratio of fruit to crumble, so I added frozen strawberries right from the freezer and just drizzled the remaining cornstarch and sugar mixture from the blueberries on the strawberries. It turned out so amazing! I’m actually glad I added the strawberries because the blueberries didn’t have much flavor. I also used self rising flour and skipped the baking powder and salt. I also used salted butter since that was all I had. I also skipped the cayenne because I don’t like anything spicy. I will definitely try making this again with raspberries and blackberries. And will try this with apples with cinnamon and nutmeg. Thanks!

I made this today and brought it to the 4th of July potluck at my mom's house (and yes, she had vanilla ice cream to go with it). I just made this-forget waiting to cool-couldn't-so delicious, so bursting with flavor, such crumbly buttery crumble.....made whipped cream due to lack of vanilla ice cream....scrumptious. And, so easy. Thank you.
Thank you for sharing this crumble recipe; I've been on a recipe search for something like this for quite a while now. Just a heads up to anyone out there who is cutting way back on sugar ( like myself ). Try Monk Fruit Sugar instead. You should only need to use maybe a half a cup of it for this recipe. Maybe a touch more. It also seems more concentrated. ..so use less. It tastes just like regular sugar. And no weird after taste; like sugar substitutes. I bake with it all the time now. But using it sparingly ... so the recipes stay in the healthier range.
I had never heard of it so I Googled it and found out it isn't really sugar, but the extract is a sweetener, and 150-200 times sweeter than sugar. It also doesn't raise blood sugar levels, so it's OK for diabetics. Thanks for your comment.
Made this for Mother’s Day ..Ahh-mazing! Rich, mellow & not overly sweet. I used blueberries & strawberries, swapped 1/4c white sugar for brown in the crust and used brown sugar on the berries #life
That looks lovely ! but English crumble has a bit more topping on and I've never seen a bottom on a crumble but hey! diversity is brilliant! FAB! (The Crumble Lady)
I live in berry country USA. So I have a wide variety to choose from. When I make it this weekend I will use Marion berries and raspberries. Sadly they will be frozen but they were freshly picked last July.
Good morning Chef John. I just made this dish and it was terrific, with one minor change. I know we are "the captain of our Tennille" or whatever, but I love the berry part and instead of 3 generous cups of berries, next time I would put in 4 to 5 cups of berries. This recipe is definitely a keeper. Thanks

I had never heard of it so I Googled it and found out it isn't really sugar, but the extract is a sweetener, and 150-200 times sweeter than sugar. It also doesn't raise blood sugar levels, so it's OK for diabetics. Thanks for your comment.
I think this is my breakfast with a cup of coffee!!
this turned out very good thank you..especially the next day tastes better
could we use frozen fruits for this? and thank you like always i enjoy!!! :)
lunasun sun that’s what irritates me. Went to the recipe, people asking same questions as here. No answers.
I've made one with cherries a few weeks ago and one with plums yesterday - they were both smashing!
can i come over? That sounds great
Love crumbles more than reg pie, cant for the life of me figure out why i never put crumble on the bottom as well 😂 great recipe!
It has the added advantage of being a lot easier to make than a good pie crust,
Made this yesterday. The frozen butter trick really works well. Very tasty. THANKS!
Really enjoy the way he talks. At the end of the sentence his voice is always a few levels higher than the start. Sounds nice
I find it annoying. But I enjoy watching 😂
It's really really annoying
This is what happens when ironic adults find a use for Valley Girl-speak.
If you blind bake the bottom a bit before you add the fruit, it's more gooder. A little rum added to the fruit, is even more gooderist.
There's the pinch for Cayenne pepper!
I've been watching your channel for years and I don't think I'll ever get enough of it!
"Touch of sugar"

It's 3/4 of a cup.
just poor 3 shots of vodka
*pours half of the bottle*
Made this for Mother’s Day ..Ahh-mazing! Rich, mellow & not overly sweet. I used blueberries & strawberries, swapped 1/4c white sugar for brown in the crust and used brown sugar on the berries #life
That looks lovely ! but English crumble has a bit more topping on and I've never seen a bottom on a crumble but hey! diversity is brilliant! FAB! (The Crumble Lady)
That's what I was thinking as well.
I live in berry country USA. So I have a wide variety to choose from. When I make it this weekend I will use Marion berries and raspberries. Sadly they will be frozen but they were freshly picked last July.
I’m sorry, Jamie Oliver who? Gordon Ramsay who? Chef John YOU are THE MAN!!!
Thanks
I wanna try this with peaches or apples!
