Im a black man and I have a lot of chinese friends. One of my friends was listening to me basically question the Chinese government "How do these people even bang!?!?!?". I turn to him and we stare at eachother. Me: Would you ever go back to your mother lands? Friend: Would you ever get on a boat back to africa? And I screamed outloud cackling. It was and still is one of the funniest ways to explain to me whats going on in such a base level. He said it without missing a beat, like he was planning it. If I go to a restaurant with him and someone acts funny, he causes a bit of a scene. We can tell jokes, but you as a stranger cannot nor can you be rude or disrespect us. So on racial humor, I say people should keep it up, but if you accidentally spread some hate, you as the individual have to find and attack it. Race humor =/= racist humor. I think where race humor turns into racist humor is when the receiving person does not have the ammunition necessary to defend their race and it essentially turns into bullying. Race jokes are not for the faint of heart, which is why ordinary people get so offended while a seasoned comic can quip their way out of it and in most cases turn it completely around. The other IMO more important thing is when race "jokes" are charged. You can immediately tell when someone becomes hostile and that is the point where it isn't funny any more. There has to be a sense of hostility, otherwise racism doesn't stick around. It just floats in the air waiting for the next person with enough motivation to use it as a weapon against someone. Russel Peters is the perfect example of someone who uses race humor without hostility.

You don't post hardcore gore jokes in the company Slack channel. But if you're in a private discord with friends you've had for years and talk to daily, you could get away with this stuff. Ranton's a cool cat, but he's not a Shaolin Warrior monk. My memory is a bit hazy here, but he himself stated that he mostly trained in Modern Wushu forms, not Shaolin Sanda nor traditional Shaolin boxing drills. He also entered there as a practitioner, not a buddhist Shaolin monk.
From what I remembered he explained it that he was on his way to get the shaolin warrior monk title but didn't in the last minute. It's like if he was finishing college and he already made his thesis but didn't submit it. To me he's a de facto monk warrior but not on paper

i advocated for a self-enforced standard in order to allow people to make extremely edgy jokes, but to do so responsibly. if you want to be a stupid jerk go ahead its a free country, but don't come crying to me when ppl hate you for being a stupid jerk lol. i personally i wanna try to minimize my stupidness and (unintentional) jerkness while still doing crazy things so i chose to do those things a bit more mindfully.
For example, I am working on a bit that aims to criticize/reject holocaust denial but using the language and dog whistles of the deniers for ironic/comedic effect. However, this is really hard to do right because the ideology is ridiculous on its face and the dog whistles are quite subtle. so unless im really careful it just comes across as the very bigotry its meant to parody. i have to make sure the whole audience knows my true beliefs, either if they all know me personally (i volunteer at holocaust memorial museum so i hope ppl can deduce my true beliefs) or if i follow the bit with a bit that makes it VERY clear what my beliefs are. most places, such a joke is fairly inappropriate and so i refrain from making it. this is the kind of basic self-censorship that makes a free society work without any need for government censorship.
you're not meant to impose my feelings on your work. your meant to impose your own feelings on your work such that it meets your standards. i will impose my standards when i look at your work and decide if it is good or bad in my opinion and use that to decide whether i engage with it or ignore it. The People's Ministry of Truth need not get involved. :)
i feel like the most important things to edgy joke is to make jokes about topics you actually know about. if you make racist jokes and you're white and don't interact with foreign people you offend people. if you make jokes about yourself then you're mostly fine because people from your own group will find it funny most of the times as well. if you make jokes about black people but you're not black then that's a weird thing.

Black people also joke about Indians and Japanese and Chinese and Europeans all the time, just like the rest of us Americans do. You don't have to be them to joke about them. Grow a spine.

Ranton's a cool cat, but he's not a Shaolin Warrior monk. My memory is a bit hazy here, but he himself stated that he mostly trained in Modern Wushu forms, not Shaolin Sanda nor traditional Shaolin boxing drills.
He also entered there as a practitioner, not a buddhist Shaolin monk.
From what I remembered he explained it that he was on his way to get the shaolin warrior monk title but didn't in the last minute. It's like if he was finishing college and he already made his thesis but didn't submit it. To me he's a de facto monk warrior but not on paper

That's literally not what happened at all. He never had the intention to truly become a warrior monk. He went there after high school because he didn't want to go to college or work a desk job and his father had connections. He had medical issues three years in, couldn't continue training, and left.
