That's the 693 HVLP version. The UK version (FLG5) has a transtech aircap, but only comes with one needle (1.3,1.4,or1.8) and the lower price including shipping reflects that. Fan is slightly bigger, but the atomization is very good even at 20 psi. Up to 30 psi it lays glass. The 693 isn't a bad package deal, but the transtech air cap outperforms it with lower air consumption.
Ya I got this same kit thinking I was getting an FLG5. Had to buy the cap seperatly. Nice cup tho. The cup alone is over 100 bucks seperatly. And you get 1.3,1.4, and 1.8 nozzle sets
@@MarcBchannel you still got a great set. With the HVLP & transtech cap with all the size tips, there's nothing you can't tackle with just one gun on a full respray. Primer, sealer, base, and clear. The FLG is certainly a quality built budget gun.
When I was looking for a beginner gun, I watched several review videos, but Brians one is the best of them. Happy with my choice (European version FLG5 with 1.3 nozzle). I do mostly rims, but I do struggle a bit with bigger panels, as I can't pump up the pressure over 21 psi. On the wall mounted water eliminator and pressure regulator I have 55-60 psi. 3 metres of 9mm inner diamater hose, devilbiss filter and sagola rc2 pressure regulator turned max, and still around 21 psi... I dunno what's wrong. Any ideas?
@csabakecskes4551 you simply have too much restriction on your feed line. Everything between the compressor and gun causes some loss including the hose if too small. A 3/8" hose is better. High flow fittings (Prevost) is what I recommend to terminate the hose. Get rid of the water filter and extra gun regulator since you have one on the wall. You only need one good wall filter like a Motorguard M30 after a plain wall regulator (no filter/regualror combo). All of that you have is overkill and is more than likely the problem. It's also not just choking pressure, it's choking air volume, which is what really operates the gun.
Bought this gun about 12 months ago on advice from an RUclipsr. I can say as a beginner, I got instant results out of the box and can agree with everything Brian said> Great video mate!!
Great breakdown of the gun, set up & technique. As you mentioned, mileage will vary, depending on paint brand, type & mix %, depending on your environment.👏👏👏 Nice job.
Glad you finally did a review on the FLG5. I Bought one a few years back, great gun for the money. I am surprised that you feel the fan size is small, it's around 12 inches, same as the pro lite and just a bit smaller then the DV1. I use the 1.3, maybe the 1.2 is smaller. I bought it for base coat, but use it as a dedicated clear gun because of the great finish, I get with it.
You mentioned it's not a show car and about the orange peel. We get that you do this for repairs...however..I would love to see you in action on an all steel car that is going to be a "show car"
Been using the Flg5 for a year now, just picked up a dv1 and used it first time yesterday. Found the dv1 to be quite intimidating over the flg... That giant fan.....
I really appreciate this guys content he posts on his channel. A lot of hard effort and time goes into these videos, one of the most informative RUclips creator's. He deserves a million subscribers. Thanks again friend, I am learning a lot on your channel and about to have my first go at using a real paint gun. I restore dirt bikes and I'm going spray a steel frame.
I bought this same exact kit thinking I was getting an FLG5 but it comes with the HVLP cap. The FLG5 Transtech cap is the one to get. Its got a fairly wide fan and fine atomization. These are sold on ebay and other vendors from the UK usually. I had to buy the FLG5 cap seperate off ebay from the UK. The nice thing about this kit is the extra nozzle kits and the nice Devilbiss alum 900ml cup. The UK guns usually come with the FLG5 cap and a 600ml plastic genuine devilbiss cup with your choice of one nozzle set. I did notice that my gun had an air leak coming from the air valve behind the trigger. I ordered a service kit from the UK and replaced the seals. Its all fixed and with the good cap, its a great gun
Brian, thank you for such informative videos, I have a 1955 GMC 2nd series short bed pu I've had for the past 45yrs, yes its the first vehicle I bought. You videos instill confidence and I would love to be able to paint it once it gets to that stage. As you always say " don't overthink it, its just paint."
I got that same gun with the 1.8 tip Works well for primer and I got it cheap for like 120$ USD from a England website, was shipped to my house from England in 2 days Best money spray gun I bought
Could you do a video on orbital sanders? There’s not many videos on them from auto-body painters. Some questions I have are; -What’s a good orbit diameter? -Electric corded, cordless, or air? -If electric how important is variable speed? -What’s a good rpm to choose? -Do you have any preferred brand? -And when to use/not to use it?
Get a transtech air cap for that gun if its equipped with hvlp air cap, you get bigger fan and better atomisation. You will usena touch more paint, but the transtech style air cap is far better for beginners in my mind. And uses less air (hobbyist compressor..) HVLP aircap is "FLG 693" and transtech High Efficiency air cap is "FLG-5"
I bought one of these around 18 months ago, as a quick go to gun. I’m a Sata and Iwata but in my apprenticeship days a had the original GTI and thought they were great. So the FLG I got the 1.4 and 1.8 and I wasn’t impressed. I tried alsorts of different settings, I didn’t like the fan size and generally couldn’t get on with it. I’d personally for a budget gun go for an Iwata W400 I’ve had one for years and it’s always been my go to budget gun and cannot find anything that matches for the price. Great vids as usual
I honestly can't help but to think that every other video promotes buying a spray gun. Binks Model #7 ($65) vintage sprays paint just as good. My biceps can handle the extra weight of the gun (promise I can handle it) instead of a $200-$800 gun lol. As always great video keep up the great work!
@MegaTamle I own all of the finish line guns except the 4 and 5. The best one is the 5. 35yrs of painting I learned that hvlp air caps and DIY with small compressors will perform poorly. The flg is hvlp. Unless you are doing a single panel or motorcycle you will struggle mostly with pressure dropping from not enough air supply and orange peel. Brian is a professional in a spray booth. I think you would be happier with a f160, flg 5 or Kiwami 4. The Iwata is built much better. They use less air and are not hvlp. Hvlp = high volume low pressure. HIGH Volume. I have a Iwata w400 Bellaria and a Devilbiss GPI. I'm not against Devilbiss at all. Both guns use 9.5cfm or less depending on psi I use. Bellaria I use for base and gpi for clear. I use dedicated guns for certain materials. I have dedicated primer guns too. My flg guns due to them not performing nearly as well as the others. My advice is go to HF and get some cheap guns for primer, it gets sanded anyway.
@MegaTamle let me clarify, the flg 5 is trans tech. It's not hvlp the other flg guns are hvlp. You most likely will have to order overseas for flg 5. I believe the current gun marketed in USA as the flg is the hvlp version of the flg 5.
Do the first clearcoat very quickly that’s good information from what I understand. Doing the first clearcoat very quickly. It’s just for making a glue base for the real second coat. Thank you ❤️
I use a FLG4 to paint these military colors from hentzel. They are some hard to spray colors for sure. Since I started using this gun it takes half the time to paint compared to the gun I use to use! The tan color always messes the guns up, but this one has been good so far. I always keep the front spray tip in some thinner.pve the gun or this paint!
The flg5 is a very good gun for the price......and easy to clean!!! But for a little bit more money you get the devilbiss gdp i mean and you could also spray all. The gdp looks like the gti pro lites you could take the air caps and nozzles from the gti pro lite also. The video is very well!!!!
Shop around. My wife asked me what the best guns are. I gave her a list. I now have 5 new guns, 2 new compressors and I quit painting 10 years ago. My wife never paid over $100 for each of them, new. hey Brian thnx for tht video cause I wanna do my honda van soon and I was looking around for at least two and some were outrageously too high or way too low jst something tht would do a great job and which gun tht was again lol I'm also right handed it works better for me but good job in explaining frm beginning to end
Are you old enough to remember when dealers tried to charge extra for clear coat on their invoices? Seems to me that was a thing quiet awhile back and I recall no one would or wanted to pay for what seemed to be something that wasn't ask for or wanted. Was it the same clear coat we use today? Or was it just another dealer scam to take more money from buyers?
No comparison. I wouldn't want to use the R500 on completes. You'll lose your wet edge too easily and will have to turn the pressure up to get the mils for a wetted out smooth coat which will result in more paint usage and excessive overspray. The FLG5 with 1.4 can handle 28-35 psi without paint waste and bad overspray. It will also lay glass much easily . The caveat is the flg5 is a little heavier in the hand, but nothing terrible.
Great video, I had in mind or what spraygun to buy. The problem is i need it to spray silverish pewter metallic i was wondering if the small fan will be a problem.

been following you for a while now. how do you know how much a panel consume? like how much clearcoat do one need to mix up for lets say a bumper or a hood/door? any guidelines
Have you ever tried any of the astro pneumatics euro pro hvlp spray guns? As a older painter used to suction guns and not wanting to spend a lot I've found they work good for me.
@@PaintSociety yes almost as soon as I hit send I saw it. I have bought different tips from astro and for what I paid for the gun I bought one for primer and another for clear . Really get a lot of information from you. I started painting before computers and am just now getting back into it so I really appreciate the tips.
Only mini touch up guns come to mind. Iwata LPH80 1.2mm tip with E4 cap is nice. Uses less than 3cfm. Cant spray a whole car or large panels. Small parts and maybe fenders
Brian I noticed you mentioned you're not full trigger on the base and clear...does this help with wasting paint/overspray? I've been going full trigger on my Kiwami and the finishes have been great being a first time painter. I just feel like im wasting more paint than necessary 🤔
Brian, I'd like to get my car painted, I live near by how can I get in contact with you or your shop. Same OEM color, VW turbo s beetle red.. dings and dents everywhere...
I was wondering. Did you mean 1.2 fluid tip. I looked on your list it say 1.3 smallest. Could you send me gun #. Flp. And # thank for you very helpful toe greg
That's the 693 HVLP version. The UK version (FLG5) has a transtech aircap, but only comes with one needle (1.3,1.4,or1.8) and the lower price including shipping reflects that. I use this as one of my sealer guns. Fantastic gun for the price, the only con is the TINY FAN. But thats about it. Flawless for years now.
I thought it was ok until I got a DV1, it’s now a primer only gun for me.
A DV1 is an extreme step up from this gun. This is a great primer gun and a fantastic sealer gun for smaller areas.
DV1 is awesome. I just dont have enough air for it at home. They spray real nice

been following you for a while now. how do you know how much a panel consume? like how much clearcoat do one need to mix up for lets say a bumper or a hood/door? any guidelines
I need a mini gun, can you recommend one. Ty
Isn't it considered the finish line gun hence FLG?
Hi I would like to spend about 100 or less what would be good just painting a hood that’s it
A610
Have you ever tried any of the astro pneumatics euro pro hvlp spray guns? As a older painter used to suction guns and not wanting to spend a lot I've found they work good for me.
Did you watch the end of the video ?
@@PaintSociety yes almost as soon as I hit send I saw it. I have bought different tips from astro and for what I paid for the gun I bought one for primer and another for clear . Really get a lot of information from you. I started painting before computers and am just now getting back into it so I really appreciate the tips.
What kind of gun can I use with a 2.6cfm compressor ?
Only mini touch up guns come to mind. Iwata LPH80 1.2mm tip with E4 cap is nice. Uses less than 3cfm. Cant spray a whole car or large panels. Small parts and maybe fenders
Has anyone used the Kirker piant kit
You should really consider a fresh air mask, clear coat especially is really bad for your eyes….sata fresh air masks are the best in my opinion
Brian I noticed you mentioned you're not full trigger on the base and clear...does this help with wasting paint/overspray? I've been going full trigger on my Kiwami and the finishes have been great being a first time painter. I just feel like im wasting more paint than necessary 🤔
I don’t pay too much attention to exactly what I do all the time with the spray gun but if it’s working for you then stick with it.
@@PaintSociety Rajah dat 🤙 I learned so much from your vids and still continue learning 👍👍 thanks!!
I want a video about dangers of painting a car esp chances of getting cancer.
Would that spray gun work good whit a 30 gallon air compressor to do a car hood and fender
Doubt it. It's good on air, but not that great. It's going to use about 10cfm but if you can supply what it needs it will lay glass with ease
Brian, I'd like to get my car painted, I live near by how can I get in contact with you or your shop. Same OEM color, VW turbo s beetle red.. dings and dents everywhere...
We only do small repair. And full resprays for shop builds.
@@PaintSociety have you heard of Plastech? Probably been at your shop doing PPF... But yeah thanks I'd like to get it resprayed completely
Amazon saying gun is currently unavailable?
I checked the link in the description. Says “10 left”
If you had $200 to spend would you get this gun or two astros, a 1.3 gun and a 1.9 for primer?
1.3 astro and a cheap hf for primer
I was wondering. Did you mean 1.2 fluid tip.
I looked on your list it say 1.3 smallest. Could you send me gun #. Flp. And # thank for you very helpful toe greg
I gotta double check. It could have been 1.3. My eyes aren’t the best for small numbers. Just check the description on Amazon
Brian,
Just noticed it looks like your shirt is drenched. Is your paint room that hot or do you sweat like me??
4 shirts a day I go through. It’s hot down here in south Florida !
@@PaintSociety I wondered where you were located. I'm trying paint my Silverado. No experience at all. Nothing for you to be concerned about.
