Taito F3 is one of my favorite arcade boards. All the games look, and especially sound incredible. I honestly think it's the peak of 2D arcade spritework.
F3 + CV1000 + IGS PGM. If this killer trio ever comes to life on MiSTer FPGA I will be a very, very, very happy MiSTer owner indeed. And I am already loving this little wonder to bits.
The IGS PGM & CV1000 boards are top of my wish list. Need more Cave shmups on MiSTer. The 68000 games are great but Cave got into their stride after Dodonpachi.
MISTer Walrus FPGA did a longplay of the Saturn version. It certainly is a great version but I'd like the arcade game as the HUD isn't in the way and there are so many difficulty levels on the arcade board. Also, the colours are different on the arcade version. Plus, we'd get Lightbringer, Hattrick Hero, Elevator Action Returns. It's right up there with CPS3 and System 18 as most wanted cores for me.
Huh, I've only ever used my F3 on my 20L5 with a Tineharvest supergun and didn't have any problems, didn't realize other PVMs had problems with it. I'll have to try it with some of my other monitors/devices one of these days.
I have this arcades system on top of that. I have Darius, Gaiden, and Darius gaiden extra version. This game is dope. I recently bought the dark soft rom cart
Just looked up the game list and it hosted some stellar titles. Luckily, a decent amount got home ports but still some top games remained unported. Thank god for emulation!
Same here, my favorite arcade game. Fingers still crossed for F3 to come to Mister, or for MARS to come to fruition to support development for a core there.
The ES5505 is just a plain old sampling IC. Digital audio recording and playback. It's a pretty nice one, but quite simple overall. The ES5510 (ESP (DSP)) was used (outside of gaming) in some of the nicest sounding effect processors made (IMO anyway) the Ensoniq DP/2 and DP/4. So for arcade use, I would guess that they would be used for reverbs, delays, and possibly any pseudo-spatial audio effects. So the pair of these ICs would be something like an way more advanced version of the Sony SPC700 in the SNES. (Digital audio/music plus effects) My guess is that the ES5505 is dead simple to implement. The ES5510 may be a bit more difficult. I'm not sure how easy DSP is to do in FPGA. I know that it's done, as it's used in many synthesizers for oscillators these days, but I'm guessing it would take up quite a bit of resources, which may make implementing the full system a bit tricky. Nice video! Edit: Once again I reply before you actually get to the same information in my comment. :D Carry on then. :) (I'm a synthesizer designer, and musician, so the audio aspects are quite interesting to me. :D )
Haha I always manage to get to the details in a comment right about sixty seconds after the comment is made. I usually put audio towards the back half of these videos and up front is CPU and any customs that drive the image
I’ve had a few F3s and I know what you mean about the syncing, it is easy on arcade monitors, but I’ve also had it working on a Bang&Olufsen TV, and also on a Sony PVM with the light up buttons down the left and right ( I think it is the model after the one you showed in your video) I wonder if it because I’m in the UK, so we’re on 50hz here, same as in Tokyo and northern Japan. Maybe it makes it easier for our CRTs to sync to that weird refresh rate
@@VideoGameEsoterica My comments with a link are getting removed, but Retro RGB talked about it back in December of 2022. I'm not a patron of Raki's so I can't see what his latest updates are
a friend let me borrow his f3 multi to help me decide if I wanted to buy it and ... most the games are remakes of great games but they are not *these great games* that I played and remembered. so for me F3 is a "meh"
Elevator Action Returns is such an incredible game. Heck, most of the games on this board are incredible!
EAR is goat
Rayforce / Galactic Attack! Is one of my favorite shooters ever. It's on the F3.
F3 just has so many good games
Taito F3 is one of my favorite arcade boards. All the games look, and especially sound incredible. I honestly think it's the peak of 2D arcade spritework.
It’s right up there with System 32 IMO

We def need PGM

We always need more CAVE haha
The motorola 68000 was what seems to be what ARM is these days. Its was used everywhere.
It was basically one of the most popular CPUs ever

I hope we get the arcade version too. F3 is a great board and it needs to be in FPGA
Would love to see you do a monthly MAME update as well. Elevator Action Returns is da bomb!
Maybe one day. A lot of MAME updates are on some fringe stuff that I’m glad MAME does but I just don’t get super excited for

Yeah it can be a real pain honestly
It has problems with a bunch of arcade chassis too. It is the most annoying board to work with.
It’s notoriously annoying
Also yeah your 20L5 is multisync. Of course itll handle it
Super cool potential core. Thanks for showing off the Taito F3!
always happy to do it
man cant wait till this appears on the pocket analogue want to play my light bringer/dungeon magic
Maybe one day!

It’s awesome there’s a multi for it
@@VideoGameEsoterica yeah dark soft has a multi cart for the F3
No mention of RayForce/Galactic Attack? That's one of the best vertical shmups of all time!
If I had the time to include them all I would have :)
Maybe THE best!
Just looked up the game list and it hosted some stellar titles. Luckily, a decent amount got home ports but still some top games remained unported. Thank god for emulation!
Yes as far as arcade boards are concerned it’s one of the most home ported of all which is nice
Maybe you could make a RUclips video about the difference between an arcade monitor and a consumer CRT because I haven't seen any like that
Perhaps in the future :)
Is Radiant Silvergun on the Taito F3 or a different board? It would be nice to have options other than the Saturn core to run such games.
ST-V is Silvergun
Same here, my favorite arcade game. Fingers still crossed for F3 to come to Mister, or for MARS to come to fruition to support development for a core there.
F3 would work fine on MiSTer. Nothing you’d need MARS for

Always a fun one. Just did a video recently’ish on it

Wasn't Puzzle Bobble 2 also on the Neo Geo MVS?
It was yes
Are there any major things like this being worked on? Seems like jotegos been doing little audio tweaks lately.
Not that I’m aware of no
What game is at 7:49-8:01? I've only seen it once in the Jet Li movie Black Mask
That's Darius Gaiden. It also was on the Sega Saturn.
