The new 6.2 has DFM (Dynamic Fuel Management) lifters. They are controlled by the VLOM (valve lifter oil manifold). The old AFM system allowed the vehicle to switch from v8 to v4 mode when proper conditions allowed it to do so. The new DFM system allows the vehicle to operate with whatever combination the ECM deems most efficient and necessary. Whether thats V8, V7, V6.. all the way down to 1 cylinder firing. The issue with these systems, new and old, is that GM is sourcing very cheap components to facilitate the operation of these very complex and advanced systems. I'm surprised there has not been a lawsuit filed.

It just happened to me when I was exiting off an interstate coasting down hill, maybe 35mph. Left me stranded too, couldn't even put it in neutral to move out of traffic. Towed to dealer and was told engine needs replaced. Blamed me for following manufacturer recommended service program. I was told I need to service it every 5k miles not the 7.5k MyChevy App, the dealer and chevy says. So a little dirty oil locked up the motor? Head mechanic said not to worry, his mechanic takes care of this all the time. Why didn't the sales person tell me that?
I just rolled 20k miles on my 10 month old 2023 Silverado zr2. Should've gotten the Toyota or Ford. I'm not feeling confident about this $70k+ chevy truck. My first chevy truck. Ugh, should've listened to friends and avoided GM.

I have an assigned work vehicle so don’t drive it every day and we just got back from beach last Friday and now it has 14,000 plus miles on it. Had second service done at 10,000 miles at dealership and at 10,300 it dropped a lifted. Still would start and run but missed a lot. Tow and repair completely covered under warranty and they had it done within a week including weekend. Had it repaired same day parts came in and they replaced entire bank where lifter problems was. We had a 17 Silverado 5.3L with around 100,000km (62,000mi) and coming home one day the engine light started flashing so we pull over, turned it off the on again, code went away, normal operation so we got it to the Chevy dealer and when this happened we had it 8 months...so we got it looked at and it was saying multiple cylinder misfire, ALL the tests they did came back normal, so had to fork out 700 bucks for that, 3 weeks later...same issue!!!!! So I got it towed to another dealer and this time it was saying that the multiple cylinder misfire was double from before so they did more testing and....yet again another 500 bucks for nothing...so we had the truck for just under 2 years and traded it for a 21 Classic Ram 5.7 brand new and got 5k more than what we paid for the Silverado

I'm not a chevy guy, but people talk shit about ford all the time. I've NEVER been left on the side of the road in my car. Now it doesn't have A/C right now because the compressor won't... well.. compress air, but it's still going, and the only thing's i've replaced on it before 100k were the alternator and water pump. things that commonly go out on all cars.
A/C Compressors are common to go out as well, but that's all cars as well.
I would hope they warranty the engine because it's clearly a warranty issue, maybe the computer, maybe a chewed wire somewhere, who knows until it's diagnosed.
Hopefully it's not too bad and it can be brought back asap.
It would be neat to see a supercharged truck since chevy is very unlikely to even do one... they'd have to maybe put the ZL1 supercharger on the truck I think (still same engine... should fit right?!).
Anyway, I would maybe look for an older chevy truck to beat on, I think lots of people enjoy those kinds of projects too.

Sounds like you dropped a lifter that bent and push rod that locked up the motor. The manufacturer of the lifters that GM has been using is a known problem. Frustrating, to say the least. I had a similar experience - I bought a new Ford F-150 with the V-6 Ecoboost engine a few years ago. Under 20k miles, the engine started billowing thick, white/blueish smoke from the tailpipe, accompanied by a metal on metal grinding sound in the engine when I accelerated. Read online that many were seeing the same issues. I didn't even try to resolve or investigate further, I took it straight to the dealer and traded it for a Toyota. I'd driven Toyotas my entire life, had decided to try one of these F-150's I'd heard so much about over the years because the mpg on the Ford ecoboost was so much better than Tundra. And the thing was a piece of junk. It's ridiculous to spend that much money on a vehicle and have problems right out the gate. The Tundra is awful on mpg, and the Tacoma is a bit small, but they just run. Chevy, Ford, GMC, all have some good looking trucks but I don't trust them to make a reliable product.

People thought they fixed them with the 22s. Let me confirm. They. did. not. Also hope you only put 93 in that tank 😅 if you didn’t and the ecu tells on ya I’ve been forced to deny lifter claims for that.
I’m just over here beating the hell out of my lifted 21 LT 4x4 2.7 haha🤷‍♂️

It’s most likely the AFM system (Active Fuel Management) the lifters in the cylinders that shut off while cruising may not have good oil flow, ultimately causing their downfall quite literally. They collapse and get stuck in off position and it puts the engine in limp mode after the computer registers a misfire. Sadly this has been happening for almost 15 years I think since they released these motors.

A lot of my friends have the marinized 6.2 engines by marine power In they’re commercial fishing boats and they’ve had a lot of issues with them as well. Seems it’s hard to beat the tried and true 6.0. It’s a shame cause the 6.2 put out such more power and Bette fuel economy

That 6.0 is damn near bulletproof... I did have the lifters changed in mine at 79k, but the oil pump went out as well and I complained to the dealership about a ticking noise... covered under extended warranty... 2018 2500 gasser, btw

The new 5.3 and 6.2 with AFM and or DOD have major issues. I’m a huge GM guy, but I’ll never own an AFM or DOD vehicle. I actually just traded my AFM 5.3 for a GMC 2500HD 6.0 gasser… no cylinder deactivation and a proven GM motor 🇺🇸

RIP the 6.2. I feel like it can’t be super serious. The dod/afm stuff has been around a bit. I know gm does change things very slowly, but I thought that stuff was figured out in the gen 4 small blocks. It seems like it’s not even attempting to turn on to the run position, key on engine off. Did they tell you how many control units are missing. I remember you saying that you had no heating steering because there were components not installed do to the semiconductor shortage.

    • @DurkinDurks
      @DurkinDurks 2 года назад

Dod/afm has been an issue since they introduced it and still to this day. It’s a junk system that kills what used to be very reliable motors that got the same if not better at times fuel economy. They had a huge lawsuit against them over it and somehow won even though it’s such a massive common issue.

Got truck back runs and sounds normal again idk if I’m going to keep it now probably get rid of it before bumper to bumper is up. Been gm all my life now thinking about a f250 diesel or maybe a 5.0 f150 definitely not a v6 just can’t accept that sound coming from a full size truck lol

Mine had a fuel injector fail at 126 miles and it drove to the service dept, very rough, died at the shop as I pulled in. It wouldn’t turn back on and they couldn’t even pull it around to check it. Anyway, it was a fuel injector and it took them a month to get a replacement bank.

Bought a new Sierra was all good til 13000 miles then broken lifters broken pushrods……. Over a week in the shop but thankfully they had some parts to fix it. Gm would only change out the lifters on one side. So as I drive this truck I always expect the other side of lifters to break. Definitely will not keep this truck out of warranty

Great looking truck no doubt, yet as a former fan and owner of multiple GM products over the years I’ve grown to absolutely hate GM.
Since my family and I have now switched to Toyota and Honda products, it truly is a night and day difference with reliability.
GM has taken Planned Obsolescence to a whole other level with their Garbage.
They definitely should not be allowed to have an American Flag attached to their product. We now see why so many Countries hate us, they likely purchased a GM in the past or present.
