The MAF sensor is a delicate sensor.
Banging it on the bench may well damage the sensor if it wasn't already.

Furthermore it’s sequential turbos. Bi-Turbo mode kicks in at around 2700rpm. Before that the secondary turbo (driver side in UK) let’s exhaust gas travel through exhaust bypass to primary turbo. This valve closes when 2700rpm hit then both turbos kick in turns from mono turbo to bi-turbo.

Glad you got it fixed. Your graphs on the two turbos looked close to correct to me the 2nd turbo only kicks in above 2,300 revs.

Layer found that there was a crack in the inlet manifold

Live data looks fine. Second MAF kicks in when up in the 2700rpm range.

Great video. Thank you for uploading. I have a Range Rover Sport with the same engine. When I cleaned my sensors the one sensor will always be cleaner as the secondary air intake is only used about 2500 rpm I believe.

Great diegnostic work well explained for us newdys to a D4 cheers

I may be wrong but I believe one MAF sensor is always in better condition than the other due to the secondary turbo only cutting in at higher revs so one MAF sensor works more than the other hence it's more contaminated.

Great video, thanks... :) Just a quick question; What were the values after the new MAF sensor, could you share?

Sorry, i still don't know why do you change MAF sensors. All looks fine here. Where do you saw a problem with live data?

I drive a Lexus rx450h since 2016. Only one issue (of course I keep it scheduled service) once a dead battery. Aside from that it's been great...but... I am looking and thinking of getting a Disco 3 or 4...
I've heard, before I even go looking I should buy a diagnostic tool....

    • @MrDecy69

A diag tool is a good shout but don't just get a cheap code reader. They don't do much at all

Would you give the live data with the new MAF sensor?
I think I have the same issue with my disco 4. MAF sensor bank 1 is almost static when you rev the engine until 2700 rpm. No error codes though

Looks like the updated headlights & rotary gear selector which is an SDV6?

Correct. Sorry if I said TDV6 in the video

Well, that MAF sensor’s definitely cheaper than a Subaru one going for roughly $380 - $450 😅. I’m surprised.

Think it is down to the MAF sensor for the land rover is a very widely used generic part used but a lot of engine manufacturers like Peugeot, vw etc

Hi , just out of interest , how many miles has it covered in it,s life . Do you know if JLR did any up grades so the last of the D4 to make the engines better going on to the sports ? some people say make sure you go for the 8 speed gear boxes . 🤔

    • @MrDecy69
      @MrDecy69  Год назад +1

Sorry for late reply. At the time of recording the land rover had 160K miles on the engine but has a lot of tick over hours. The only update I know of from this year going forward was the inlet manifold update (so they stop cracking) and the throttle body for the same reason

    I'd love a discovery 4 for it's looks,
But good god whoever decided on this engine design wants shooting,
Nothing but a disaster with a totally inaccessible engine bay not to mention the crankshaft problems
Totally unacceptable to build crap like this.

The typical argument from mechanics to engineers. Not to mention the idea to remove the body off chassis to change the turbos out
