    Long before Drew Brees became a Super Bowl champ and saved New Orleans, he was busy making Purdue football semi-relevant. Unfortunately for Brees, there was one blemish in his otherwise superb college career: An 0-3 record against Penn State. This particular contest featured two Top-15 teams colliding in No.2 and undefeated PSU and 15th-ranked Purdue. It was a true clash of the titans between the Brees-led Purdue offense against the LaVar Arrington and Courtney Brown-led PSU defense.

    The Boilers went to bed hearing Fight On State in their heads every night that week! What a game. Brees was such a baller but the PSU defense was on it on this game. I remember watching this as a kid. Thank you for sharing games like this.

    As time goes by you realize what a good job Joe Tiller did at Purdue. They hadn't been relevant for years before he got there and they have basically been the doormats in the Big Ten ever since he left. Tiller proved that you can actually win consistently at Purdue but he's been the only coach who has been able to do it in recent decades.

    There was a camera shot at the end of that game that was one of the best I ever seen. After a commercial break the game came back.... camera mid level height shot (goal post in foreground) looking at the back of the Penn St. Defense...the camera starts to swing slowly down and to the left as Purdue comes to the line of scrimmage. It was epic!!! so much better to see it than I could explain. Would be great if u could upload that last part of the game. One of those games that sticks in memory

      I was there too, frosh year. Still pissed Brees couldn't land a pass in the endzone on the final four downs and that clown on PSU made the illegal tackle before the era of instant replay.

    Why didn't you show Anthony King coming off the sidelines to illegally tackle Chris Daniels and steal a TD from Purdue? The turning point of the whole game, and still the dirtiest play I've ever seen in any sporting event.
    It took almost 13 years, but Purdue finally got the W that they deserved in this one.

      That play happened right in front of me. I'm still pi$$ed off from the official's call on that play. As I understood it, they had the discretion to award a TD which clearly was going to happen but chose to penalize PSU for "illegal participation". We ended up not scoring on that drive and it was the difference in the game.

    Actually Purdue still lost. Penn State just doesn't get the win, technically. Of course we all know they won this; you can't change history.

    Man I am and was a diehard penn st fan. My mom remarried and the person she dated/married used to always get me tickets for home games when Donald Winston was there. He hated when Penn St would visit because his seats were presidents box. The whole way up there he would be like you cant cheer against Purdue this week and be loud. I'd always say I'm anti PU this week, but if Donald scores im going crazy but they cant win. I'm 34 and went to the same High school as Donald Winston, he was my idol growing up. I was so mad when he scored because PU should of won this game. Prob the best PU game I've ever watched and glad to say I was here. Those boilers were good

      I hear you but having played football well in HS and for a sip of weak coffee in college the team that wins is the team that won. ARRINGTON and BROWN were the difference between the two teams that day and ARRIBGTON and BRIWN example the difference between the two programs, nothing against LEROY KEYES and DREW BREES.

    Wrong, Penn State "lost" the win but Purdue didn't gain one.

    Didn't PSU lose at home to Minnesota the next week or something followed by losses to Michigan and Michigan State? Way to finish strong. At least you won the Alamo Bowl that year. Make Purdue football semi-relevant????? What an arrogant and classless statement from PedSU. We beat #4 Kansas State in that same Alamo bowl game the year before and went to the Rose Bowl the following year. Yeah. Semi-relevant.

      Probably lost track, what Big Ten loses did Purdue have the year they went to the Rose Bowl?

    • @Cainer444
      @Cainer444 7 лет назад

      They lost at Penn State on a couple of blocked punts and a missed FG early in the season and then lost at Michigan State I believe in the next to last game of the regular season.

      Uh, given your university's history and abuse of children, mentioning "child" in this conversation may not be a good idea. Just sayin'.
