Marco... loved the review! What you say about "veteran" war gamers... is true... a few house rules and you can take the game anywhere you like. *** Here's one option that I thought had merit. Set up "A House Divided" as the master board. Now set up individual battles on the "Battle Cry" board, as a campaign. You fight the battles on "Battle Cry" then move the units on "A House Divided" board. In this way, you get more of a strategic and tactical feel. You can also determine which direction the war is heading into... the West or the East... all you have to do is figure out which scenarios apply. ** This was another fun thing I did... I took pieces from the original set (the 1960's maker), and gave each unit "Captains" and "sergeants"... IF the crossed swords is rolled, then ONLY the leaders are targeted and killed. The unit, then, must either retreat or face being dispersed, until another unit can activate it. It can defend but not attack... it can retreat to a more defensible area. I also use the flag tokens to determine where the units are... this gives a "fog of war" feel to the game. When a unit is probed or attacked, then the mini's are placed on the board. I haven't gotten down to making "morale" a part of the game yet, but, as a veteran player, I might get around to it. Thanks for the review... the thing I love about this game is the ability to create new battles, the might now have been fought, using all the geomorphic bits... say the siege of a city like Philadelphia or Atlanta. *** I also use an "overwatch" option that allows a unit to fire first, knowing it will be attacked. Another option might be to allow a unit to not move and automatically build earthworks on their turn. Love the channel... keep up the good reviews.
The minis make a big difference I think. I should get this and post up a stop motion video on my channel. Glad you like this system, gives me some confidence.
Hi Marco, really appreciate your wonderful reviews. You are fully prepared and knowledgeable about each game when the camera starts rolling! I watch each one, and have bought several games based on you opinions.
Great Job, I wanna get this for my neighbor, I'm not sure he'll play it but he's a civil war buff, builds miniatures and more. I really appreciate the last assessments, I'm already thinking about the many house rules friendly aspect, 30 scenarios and the unlimited potential for custom set ups. The sculps look very painter friendly too.
The map could be more colourful, it looks like a moonscape! Figurines always look better if painted - doesn't need to be too elaborate - the standard here was set by Custer's last stand at Little Big Horn where about 20 miniatures were hand painted by the manufacturer - and the board nicely illustrated too to show desert, rocks, packing cases, dead horses, woods, river and fords. There were nine Seventh cavalry figures, including Custer who had two revolvers, one in each hand, all on foot, six Indians on foot, and 6 mounted. They all looked great and it was a lot of fun
First time I've seen that wall of graphic novels... I think you have a problem. ;-) Holy crap! Sure you're not shooting your videos in a book shop?!?! If I had that many graphic novels, my wife would murder me. :-)
I agree with your criticism about the flags... just awful!!! This game, combined with the older game, can be expanded to create new battles... lots of fun...
Kevin L. Kitchens yes lol wonder if you could do time wars lol nipolmatic vs modern day and maybe add a medieval times game that also uses the same system just make a army that has a few of each type of units and create some house rules
You could hear his accent and have to ask? My catz come running when they hear Marco's voice, as it usually means a 20 minute brushing while I watch the video! ;-)

Great review Marco. Really well balanced. I'm a Memoir 44 player but looking forward to playing Battle Cry. Thanks for giving up your time to do this.

Marco, you do awesome reviews! I wish you lived in SE Ohio; it's like pulling teeth to find an old school wargamer around here.
Excellent explanation of the rules, Marco. Very helpful.
Really good review, thank you so much... I immediately ordered my own copy, based on hearing your great review
Looking forward to the "Marco on Marvel" video series!
How did you get your flags to stay...stuck.
Washed mine before placing sticker......all slid off before end of second game

Toy soldiers is ok....DOLLS IS NOT!
So this is basically Memoir '61-'65? :)
Civil War: April 12, 1861 - April 9, 1865
Or does this not get into any battles of 1865? :)
Kevin L. Kitchens yes lol wonder if you could do time wars lol nipolmatic vs modern day and maybe add a medieval times game that also uses the same system just make a army that has a few of each type of units and create some house rules
Are you italian? Your name is Marco (?) and you have italian books in the bookcase behind you
I *was* Italian, but when I sworn alliegance to the U.S.A. I renounced allegiance to all other countries.
ahahhahah!
You could hear his accent and have to ask? My catz come running when they hear Marco's voice, as it usually means a 20 minute brushing while I watch the video! ;-)
You should have added a big battle cry Marco 😉

No no no. Not dolls. ACTION EFFIGIES!!!!

Dolls is correct...
Basically it's not battle cry which the map was all the states and had railroads and know cards. This is battle cry like checkers is chess! 👎👎👎👎
