    Thank you for doing this video. I was never able to find one in this detail.

    I panicked when my axle came out of the boot a bit. Glad to see you had the same issue. I thought about removing the nut to allow it a bit out in what I assume was splines, which might be a better way of doing it.

    • @accelerated_motion
      @accelerated_motion  7 месяцев назад

      It definitely feels weird if its your first time pulling an axel out. Fortunately, Ive experienced it before on previous cars, so I know how it feels and how to put it back into place. I thought about removing the nut you're referring to, but from everything I read, it was not necessary and seemed like one extra step. If I can avoid removing things, thats better in my opinion.

    I really like the way you installed these springs. I have an X drive also and doing springs soon but terrified to pull the axel out. Are you sure it’s safe to pull out the axel?????

      Yep, its fine to pull the axel out. No issues with it going back into place.

    Couple of things, why take out the 4 bolts up top holding down the strut brace? I didn’t find that necessary…but I do have a RWD car.
    Secondly, I reached out to AST and they confirmed that the writing on the spring doesn’t make a difference, and there’s only one orientation the springs will fit.

    Hey man. Great video. I do have a question tho. I just purchased these springs from kies and per your video and others I have seen, you guys say install the springs with the lettering upside down. I actually measured the spring at the top and bottom and it looks like to me they should be installed right side up and also my dust boot only fit with the lettering right side up. I tried contacting kies and ast suspension but have not heard back from either. I installed mine with the lettering right side up and all is good so far. Hopefully it continues. I am curious tho. How did you get a hold of ast or their instruction manual? Thank you for any feedback. Awesome g80 by the way

    • @accelerated_motion
      @accelerated_motion  5 месяцев назад

      Everything that I read, said lettering upside down. But I am glad that you arent having any issues with yours. There really is no instruction manual or anything that came with the springs. Best is to email them - sales@astsuspension-na.com

    Not too bad of a video there is a lot of steps that shouldn’t have been done extra work. You do need two jacks don’t use an impact on the Strat tower bolt This should be 20 minute on each side. Very simple to do.

    Curious, what did you use the strut spreader for if you never removed the strut itself? Did I miss that? Thanks for the content.

    • @accelerated_motion
      @accelerated_motion  8 месяцев назад +1

      I did not use the spindle spreader during my install since I did not remove the strut itself. I did mention it in the video just in case you wanted to remove the strut and do the work off the car. But if you do it the way I did it, then you dont need the spreader :)

    Thanks for posting this. About to do a camber plate install and have a question. Did you remove or loosen any bolts on the lower control arms? It looked like you only removed the end link bolt on the strut to be able to maneuver the strut out. I watched another video where someone mentioned loosening the lower control arm nuts in order to get more “sag” but not sure if that’s necessary.

    • @accelerated_motion
      @accelerated_motion  3 месяца назад

      Not necessary. No need to create extra work.

    Was it actually necessary to remove the top hat? Couldn’t you just have removed the center nut and it would have brought the whole assembly down? Great video might tackle this on my x3. I assume it’s similar

    • @accelerated_motion
      @accelerated_motion  7 месяцев назад

      Not completely necessary to remove the top hat. The center nut is what matters the most. I removed just in case I needed more clearance when swinging the entire assembly out. But since I removed the plastic wheel wells, it was plenty of room. Imagine the X3 will be a similar process, so I would leave the top hat in place. Not a big deal to remove though, only 4 external torx bolts.

      @@accelerated_motionthank you for the quick response. Would you happen to have the torque specs handy? Many thanks in advance

    • @accelerated_motion
      @accelerated_motion  7 месяцев назад

      @@M40iGarage I don’t. I’d have to look them up but they would likely be different for your x3 anyway. I would check a forum for torque specs. That’s what I usually do.

  • @proudsuperior
    @proudsuperior 8 месяцев назад

    I see you used the electric jack under the front rotor. What was keeping it from rotating, the emergency brake?

    • @accelerated_motion
      @accelerated_motion  8 месяцев назад +2

      The emergency brake is for the rear brakes.
      Technically nothing was keeping the rotor from rotating - the air jack was in the right spot so it wasnt going to move on me.

    Thanks for posting. How does this compare to the KW HAS in your opinion?

    • @accelerated_motion
      @accelerated_motion  7 месяцев назад

      I like the stance better on the AST springs, as they go lower than the KW HAS. However, I think the KW HAS feels better. A little less jarring than the AST. But both are great options. AST springs are obviously a cheaper option, so there are multiple factors at play.

  • @katalysis
    @katalysis 6 месяцев назад

    If you had removed the axle bolt, could you then lower the assembly without popping the axle out?

    • @accelerated_motion
      @accelerated_motion  5 месяцев назад

      Technically yes, but the axle bolt is torqued on very tight. Why remove it, if its not necessary? Popping the axle back in isnt an issue.

  • @katalysis
    @katalysis 6 месяцев назад

    Did you not need to unlatch the ride height sensor?

    Any reason going ast springs only as HAS option like on the previous g80? AST are know for making some wierd noise.

    • @accelerated_motion
      @accelerated_motion  7 месяцев назад +1

      Just wanted to try something different on this car. Im trying to not build the same car as the previous blue G80. Also, the KW HAS did not go as low as I would have liked. The ASTs have been decent so far, but I am encountering some front drivers side noise. But I think its from the strut hardware, so I am going to replace those and see if it goes away. Otherwise, happy with the AST - the drop is perfect.

    • @18zips80
      @18zips80 7 месяцев назад

      the early batches made noises cuz of the spring isolaters. they revised it and theyre noise free.
