Best Lumix camera ever? LX7 with flawless 24-90mm f1.4 - 2.3 Leica brand lens. ND filter built-in. Really good 1080p video performance with O.I.S. 10MPX multi aspect ratio sensor. Hot shoe with availability to put external EVF. 37mm filter mount (with adapter). And everything with extreme small package. I use this camera even today and make an A4 printouts. There is a lot to love 📸

Fun video content. My first ever camera - at 68 years old was the fz300 bridge. It was an absolute dream to learn on. I now have a g85. It is light, easy to use and does everything I need for a fun hobby. Lumix makes wonderful, usable cameras. I love the ergonomics of my g85 and I tried several other brands before buying..

i've taken probably several thousand pics with my lumix cameras, starting with the zs3, then the zs6 (which i still have!), then the zs19/20; then had to get the 1000, great addition - loved it; finally - almost i got the g85, probably the best, most versatile camera i'd ever owned! then, looking at some of your you tube videos and others, out went the 1000 and the 85, traded for my newishbest ever camera- the g9. i'm just starting to get into this camera but it's fantastic. keep those videos coming matti, they're all very helpful. norm

Good list of great cameras. I used to have an LX-1, but it was soaked with saltwater during sailing. I got an LX-2 after that and still have it. I have used it for many years. I have also a GH-4 for video work. I agree that it still could be used with no problem. It has very good video quality and features.

Good list Matti. I have only used a handful of Lumix, but my favorite is the GF-1. I like it so much I bought two bodies in case one broke, but it never did. Panasonic cameras and lenses are the only system I have used in my 58 years that never needed a repair or service ever. Stay safe.

My list would be the G1, love that camera, still have it, converted to infrared. The GX1, love the rangefinder style. The FZ200, this was my grab and go camera. The GH3, I don't do video and this camera got me to do a bit of it and still have great stills. The LX100, great compact camera with lots of control. The GX8, fantastic all around great shooter. The G9, like you this is my absolute favorite Micro Four Thirds camera. The S5, my first full frame digital camera. Our lists are very similar, thank you for doing this. p.s. I still have all these cameras, I go back to the older ones from time to time just for fun.

I hereby nominate this video for inclusion in the Lumix Hall Of Fame Museum.
I've been without a camera (other than my cell phone) for about seven years. I had a Canon Rebel and several very good lenses. But living here in the tropics, mold etched the mirror and the inside of the lenses. And so they sat, in their sad state, in the closet for all these years. Now the photography bug has bitten me again and, thanks to your wonderful videos, I'm about to assemble a G9 kit. And this one I will keep in a closet with a dehumidifier! Thank you for all your videos!

Great video, many Lumix great cameras listed. We built our first commercial drone around a Lumix GF3, it´s still fully functional with live video feed and a servo triggered shutter. Today we rely 100% on Lumix cameras in our video productions, the S1H being the "A-camera", with a GH5 and G9 completing the line-up. Out of these cameras, I´m still blown away by the GH5, it was so far ahead of it´s time when it was released that it still is a very current camera in2021. 4k50 with no crop, or 4k25 10 bit internally is really useful! Would really like to try out the BGH1, especially for live-streaming jobs that we do more and more of.

Of the ones I’ve owned, the GX7 well-built and the perfect size for a rangefinder style camera. The GX8 was a joy to use thanks to the better EVF over its predecessor. The GX800 is ultra-portable, great twinned with a pancake lens and surprisingly good image quality. I now have the G9 which is superb. Tempted of course by the S-series.

G9; High grade Micro 4/3s camera.
LX10; direct competitor to the RX100.
LX100; A competitive compact camera with a Micro 4/3 sensor.
GX85; A compact rangefinder style camera
FT7; First rugged/waterproof camera with EVF.
S5; An entry level Full Frame that carries the best features from the micro 4/3 format (Live Composite and High Res Shot).
G100; Hated by most for removing features, but the video ratios and vertical video are a step in the right direction.

I haven't used more than 3 Lumix cameras. GH5, G9 and G100 cameras. I think they all have great qualities and offer much to those of us who are on a budget. I buy all my lens used, with a few exceptions. I should clarify, my work bought the GH5, I was so impressed, I bought a G9, thinking that camera was more geared toward photography. My daughter was so impressed that she bought a G100, hoping to use that for her RUclips projects. I am a videographer getting into photography as a hobby, and something to pursue during retirement. Also it might be a good side job after retirement.

I got a gx85 a couple years ago and think its an excellent camera once you work it out. So many bells and whistles. I also have an olympus em5 which is also excellent. Its a little older but it has a unique character and I feel better for photography. That said the gx85 has the more modern features such as focus peaking and silent shutter and much more. I love them all..

I wish that Panasonic would do an advanced but simple camera. Like a an LX100 and a G9 combined with focus on knobs to turn and fewer menu choices more like settings. Let me be in charge of the photos. High technology: AF, sensor, 1.4 lens super quality zoom, but let me do the fiddling of the knobs. Take away PASM and replace it with White Balance knob and ISO Knob.
    The “LUMIX In Charge” camera.

    • @mattisulanto
      @mattisulanto  2 года назад

That would be cool! However, because it doesn't cost any more to add those features you wanted leave out, we are not likely to see such a camera. Most people want more even though they are never going to use all those features😀

After years of Minolta film cameras, I got an FZ50. to back it up. a TZ10, an FZ 47 was added later. I then got interested in mirrorless cameras and bought a G2 and a G10 as a backup, these two are my current workhorses, the TZ10 sits in the car glove box for emergencies. Thanks. Well, the "only 1080" in this case was, because virtually all new cameras can do 4K, which is the standard today. There is nothing wrong with 1080p, of course and it's still enough for many purposes.

The S5 offers pro style video features in a micro four thirds size body, at a street price that matches m43 and aps-c cameras. Plus comprehensive stills capability for hybrid shooters. My favourites are the true micro cameras of the m43 range, like the LX3.

Hi, I started with Lumix TZ7, then learnt a lot on the FZ200 before my g9. The G9 has held its own for nearly 5 years especially with the firmware upgrades. One point I will make is that it is ergonomically lovely just to pick up and my sized hands find it very comfortable to use, I think that anyone buying a new camera should try the camera out in a shop or otherwise because if. camera doesn't feel good in your hand you may well use it less often.I would rather have a camera that may not be quite as good as others but "feel right", The g9 is quite a large bodied m4/3 which makes it well balanced with larger lenses attached.

The three Lumix cameras I have owned have all been amazing and a joy. In 2010 I got the LX5, so I know what you were saying about the LX1, the LX5 is something special for me, I learnt a lot from it, I still have it, it still works fine today.
The GX7 is the next on my list, it was the first Lumix M43 camera to feature IBIS!
Next my current camera, the GX80. Smaller, with better IBIS and 4k photo.
Now Panasonic, make me a new camera that can top this one ;-)

Panasonic as of 6 months ago still had the GX8 on site, however I bought a used E+ for a much lower price. I love this camera, bought to replace a low-end Oly as I have large mechanic's hands.

    Subscribed, I'll be back.. Cheers!

I'm still using the G3. Still like the body, really captures the small build, despite hinting at DSLR style. Had everything I wanted from a camera back in 2011. Currently thinking of upgrading to a GX9 or G100. But been enjoying playing around with it again just recently. It served me well a couple of years ago when travelling. Just got the Panasonic 20mm which I can't wait to properly test.

Keep using the G3... IMO 5 years ago the G3 would feel highly outdated, but its so old now and MFT as evolved so much that the G3 maybe quite fun to use. I have a G9 but recently picked back up my GF1 and it's an absolute blast to use!

@@mattisulanto I hope one next LX100-generation will have a tiltable LCDscreen or tiltable VF!
Unforunately the present LX100-II didn't give me the same pleasure as LX5, though its image quality was (a lot) better... I sold it to buy a Canon GX5-mkII, which is quite good for everyday- &streetphotography and has a tiltable LCDscreen.

For me, I still video conference using the g85, for long hikes it is the G9 in my bag, and the S1R for photo trips (with tripod mostly). On my daily bike rides, it is an older ZS70 compact camera, 30x optical zoom, I can take it out of my coat pocket, turn it on, zoom, take photos, and put it back in one handed. The larger size for a modern point and shoot actually helps with that.

Hi Matti, thank You for Your videos; after watching this one I had to check the exact type of our old Lumix camera. And it's the DMC-LX2! Back then I was looking for something compact but powerful to accompany the Canon 20D. Both of them are retired for quite along time now, in service they got replaced by Canon G7 mk II and Canon 7D. I haven't been shooting with this LX2 for ages. Ocassionally I will have to give it a try again, just for fun!

Thanks Matti, a very interesting list. My MFT history is somewhat shorter, started with Olympus E-M5 II but Lumix entered only few months later with the GM1. I loved the size of it as travel and pocketable camera but missed the viewfinder. Then I found the GM5, which (2) are my travel/city cameras. As I have enjoyed my Lumix Leica lenses I finally sold the Olympus and bought the G9 in 2019. In my opinion I have best of both worlds now, pro level G9 at the large end and the smallest viewfinder MFT at the other end.

So I only have one Lumix camera: the GX8. Still use it most days, but will upgrade to the GX9 any day now, I was holding out for the "next" upgrade, but realize that will never happen, so I ordered, and returned, the Fuji X100V - I like my Lumix better! Small size and viewfinder in upper left corner is a must have for me, but I love having a tilting vierfinder too, going into functions or menus to disable or re-enable the viewfinder is so incredibly cumbersome when you can just flip it up and out of the way in stead.
    Thanks for sharing. Jan.

LX7, FZ1000, GH4, GX8, G9. I sold the GH4 when I went to the G9 but the other 4 are still being used on a daily bases. LX7 and FZ1000 are great walk around cams and get a lot of use and I've not found anything yet that would replace them. I've had several other Lumix's but these 4 are keepers.

I started with the GF1 and 20 mm lens. I still have this camera and use it occasionally. Next was the GH2 which was great at video! I gave it to my son and bought the G7! What a great camera as I still have it. Then came the GX85 because it has IBIS and no moiré filter! I actually used it for professional work! And still use it occasionally with the 20mm on it because it is a powerful compact package. Finally the G9! A M43 masterpiece! But I have no FF Lumix as of yet.

Great video. I bought a second hand GX7 in excellent condition for less than £200 having moved up from G2 and G5. I really like the small size and easy to use. The G8 and G9 are out of my price range though l love the latter one day. So bought a few really good quality second hand Panasonic prime lens 14mm, 25mm and 45-150mm to go along with kit 14-42mm. I bought a Gobe lens adapter for a Pentax fit as lve several Pentax lens for my K-70. Panasonic have a great selection of super zoom cameras and l've used my tz60 for travel many times and it's a brilliant walk about camera.

I have a GM1 (smallest of all mft cameras), a GH2 (there were many hacks to improve video quality at the time), a GX8 (which like the olympus PEN-F is still considered as superb) and a GX800 (great photo and video features for a small travel camera). Next on my wish list is the G9; just waiting for prices to drop some more.

I would like to add a second body from the GX series to my GX80, but I am undecided between GX9 and GX8. How much does the anti-alias filter affect the quality of photos? Is the GX8 worth it even if it still has the filter as well as the more "vibrant" shutter?

    • @mattisulanto
      @mattisulanto  3 года назад

I haven't done any side by side comparisons, but I don't the image quality is that much different between the GX8 and GX9. Whether it's worth it depends on the price and other things, that are important for you. The GX9 is smaller, for example. To be honest I can't say how serious the shutter vibrations are on the GX8.

My all-time favourite was my GF1 which had superb ergonomics. I've also owned a G3 and LX5. My current cameras are a G90 and GX80. I was so impressed by the GX80 (which replaced my GF1) that I sold off all my Nikon gear then bought the G90 and more lenses. I thought the G9 was physically too large for my liking and did contemplate buying an E-M1mkii instead, but decided the G90 would be a better choice due to Dual IS with my lenses and same menu system. I'm very happy with the G90/GX80 combination

My S1R is for me the most impressive and versatile creative tool I ever have... (I don't do videos)
Lots of pixels to play with (especially for someone like me who wanted to play with aspect ratios like XPan and still retain enough MP), very good low light capabilities (thanks to the IBIS who helps a lot more than I thought to keep the ISO down... but still ISO 6400 is great and even 12800 can be used sometimes, especially in black and white), great ergonomics and menus, excellent evf and screen (who tilt just the way I like) etc... It tick all the boxes for the camera I wanted (alongside my Fuji X-pro3), except maybe the weight, but it makes it more secure in the hands and make me more stable so not really a problem.
As I didn't have any other Panasonic cameras before (beside a bridge longtime ago...) and my S1R is few months new, I am a little biased of course... 😅

I really like this video Matti. Excellent 👍🏽. I don't have even 5 favourite camera's to choose but just 3. First, I picked up my first love again and that is photography. I was a amature photographer ln the beginning of the 80s. I stopped when my daughter was born in 1993. I started with the Canon T90. This model was the topline of Canon in the 80s and later on I changed gear to Minolta Dynax 7000i. So just for few years ago I picked up the Photography again, as everthing is digital so I had to learn the things again. So I started with the Fujifilm X-E1, later on I picked up a cheap Samsung NX300M. After these models I choose or switched to Panasonic and bought a cheap Lumix GX1. A very compact camera with a small grip but very useable as a street camera. It has a fixed screen but other than that a great camera to start with. Next one is another compact camera the LumixGF7. I started to use this camera for my RUclips content and it works fine. For a minor upgrade and to stay in the compact corner, I choose the GX800. And this camera can shoot to 4k. It's more like a vlog camera but is suits my channel. And for the next step and biggest change for my channel I have purchased the Lumix G90. I don't know how it feels in my hand but according to your review on this camera it must be good. Will be continued 😉👍🏽

I approached Lumix through the TZ100. I paired it with my Sony 6400 but ultimately I used the little Lumix very often. So a few months ago I decided to preovate the M43 system. I sold the Sony and got a simple GX80 (I wanted something very similar to a compact). With the camera I took 12-32 and then 42.5 1.7 and 35-100 2.8 first series. I must say this is the second time in 45 years that I have taken pictures that I have grown fond of a camera. The first was the Olympus OM1. I hope that Lumix continues the path of the G format because Full Frame is far from my philosophy. Thanks for the video

    My favorites include the TZ10, LX5, G1, G5, GH3, GM5, G80, and G9.
I bought the TZ10 around '06 i think because I wanted a decent camcorder and it was cheaper, smaller and gave better video quality than similarly priced camcorders. Of course I accidentally soaked it in sea water at the seaside but it kept going even though you could sea water inside the lens. It dried out after about a week and is still working today. This reliability and ease of use particularly with the menu system is what had me stay with Panasonic Lumix.
I still have the LX5 (with the EVF) which is over ten years old, still a great camera.
The G1 is what persuaded me to leave Canon in favor of micro 4/3.
The G5 was better than expected but I sold it to help pay for the GH3 which I got in summer 2014. I rated the GH3 as the best camera I'd ever owned until I bought the G80 which was slightly better in almost every way. Then I sold both to pay for the G9 (with Leica 12-60) and I can honestly say that this is the best camera kit I've ever used. Last xmas it got a sidekick, the G100.
A bit long winded but there it is :)

My top2: GH1 and GM1. My only Lumixes! Purchased the GH1 for video work, but paired with the miniscule 14/2.5 it quickly became my daily all-around camera. Especially loved the multi-aspect ratio sensor and the onboard mics on it. The GM1 is a lovely pocket cam, and still sees occasional use due to size. One aspect I noticed.. you talked a lot in past tense. Makes me wonder; do new cameras make older ones obsolete?

I started with the G5 which I really liked but I moved to the G80 for stabilisation and video. Money was put in to lenses, a clutch of Leica/Panasonics, not upgrades and I added a GX80 for its size. Like most photographers I am tempted to move to the latest and greatest and I am drawn to a G9 but the two cameras I have give me everything I want, not really interested in 4K and ,for me, mft should be a small system. Then the GH4 which I gave to my daughter when I bought the GH5. These cameras have been primarily for video. I also have the Olympus OM-D-M1 ii. Came into the system very early 2015, with the GX7. Bought a GX8 after a couple of months for and fancied a house nr 2. Was initially fondling the GM5, but that was just to puny for my hands, then a quick browse on the G7. It felt light and plastic-not so fantastic. Had a quick feel of the GX8 and was sold, even though it was a bit on the steep side. Enjoyed it as the primary house untill the summer of 19, when I got a G9 and have been using that since. Kept the GX8, but it may be sold off soon, as I snagged a second hand package deal with a GX9, that I got yesterday, with the bracket/handgrip thingy that followed the package, I almost get the GX8 feel when using it. So the GX8 may end up on the local craigslist equivalent. Another newish house for me, is the venerable GX1, that one I am really smitten with, and and will probably use for a pocketable beater camera. I may actually add a GX1 house or two for the drawer, cheap enough not to baby them, small and decent enough output (especially if tweaked in Topaz).
