This is going to be an air-side tunnel only. It is meant to avoid airside vehicles from going around the perimeter. People who currently transit from T1 T2 via city side will not benefit from it.

Metro 3 is city-side transit for connecting pax. Upcoming Airside tunnel cant be used for that purpose.

I am concerned about the tunnel going under the runaway. Seems like a really challenging projects as it needs to be structurally sound to handle the weight of a landing aircraft. Secondly, wouldn't it be better if there was a people mover systems, like something the video shows in Dubai (kind of like a mini-metro system), it would reduce traffic and vehicular congestion in the airport.
i agree. a 3-4 coach elevated metro is way better than having an underground tunnel which has a risk of damaging the runway. it will also provide more eyes on what exactly is going on in the airport.
if tunnels are unavoidable, i would ensure it goes as far as possible from the runway alignment or has minimal cross section with the runway.
this shows a section of tunnel almost underneath the runway which isn't really a good idea.
You are right about the Dubai airport. The train system inside the airport is fascinating. Imagine an airport which itself requires a metro-like system, which was opened way back in 2015-2016. Aur yaha dekho, ek line shuru hone ko 5-6 years lag jaate hai…😅😢
The tunnel was not needed at all. It is the arrangement to get money. If you open the gates from kurla side and make tram like bus in circular way it will solve the purpose. But it will cost less. Commission amount is also less. So not profitable for govt. Babu's.
Airport tunnels should be connected to metro and highways. Highway travellers can go faster to the airports.❤

Neither an APM nor Metro nor inter-terminal transit. It's just an internal road linking the aprons. One lane in each direction and a common overtaking lane.

It's meant to connect three airside 'aprons' - T2 apron, T1 apron and Old airport (kalina) apron. tunnel wont run under the runway as depicted.

This should have been done at the same time as construction of T2 terminal.
A better solution would be to (a) acquire some land on the south side, (b) relocate all the current maintenance hangers to the north side after closing the current NW cross runway and (c) build a parallel EW runway which will not only help to ease the current air traffic, but also will help to allow simultaneous take offs and landings (but not simultaneous landings as there is need for wider distance between two parallel runways). The closing of cross runway will also help to build a two big terminals (one international and one domestic) which can be connected to through sky train system which runs outside of the two terminals and it is cheaper to build than subways. A good airport architect from USA can come up with a solution. Of course, in the long run, to have two functional airports in Mumbai, there is need for Metro connectivity between Navi Mumbai airport and CSI terminals. A strong political will is also needed to this major change to CSI.
